Well the weekend went ok. I caught up w/ a few friends. I did visit the Ace Hardware that sells the Lionel track and ordered the Kalmbach wiring book for toy trains. Same price as on the web, but no shipping. This week will be busy w/ follow up appointments and such.

Hope everyone has a good day

Bob

Good morning all,

Just finished reading all the posts I missed while I was out of town this past weekend.  It seems most of them dealt with posting photos.  The family and I went to Wichita, KS, this past weekend for a short respite.  We were able to get a lodging room room on McConnell AFB which was very nice.  We visited the Sedgewick County Zoo and the Exploration Place.  Both were a great deal of fun and I was very impressed with the zoo.  Exploration Place is an interactive museum for kids, but adults can have fun too.  They even had a miniature exhibit of Kansas with O gauge trains running.  Needless to say, my 7y/o son and I could have spent the entire day in that exhibit.  The wife was very pleased with the shopping in Wichita and I was able to visit two hobby shops.  One was a Hobby Town USA which had a great deal of items, but I was not impressed with their prices - no deals to be had.  The other shop was Engine House Hobbies: I brought in my 1044 for a diagnosis on as to why it will not sound the whistle in my modern conventional steam loco.  The authorized Lionel tech said the 1044 is working properly and it was hit or miss as to whether a 1044 will work the whistle in a modern loco.  He recommended buying a Lionel whistle controller.  I will do some research on eBay.  I did buy one item at the shop as well.  A coal tower someone had on consignment.  It looks like a Bachmann (Plasticville) product that has been nicely weathered.  I will hopefully post of photo of it this Sunday.

Time to enjoy the last day of my extended weekend.

Happy day after Labor Day weekend!

Had a great time at Lake Texoma. Cool front came through and we had extremely nice days and cool evenings. Light breezes with highs about 90 and lows in the 60's. Lots of wakeboarding, wake surfing, knee boarding for the boys. Lake water temp was nice and cool - refreshing. Spent one afternoon anchored off a sand bar island (along with approx 200 other craft) and the boys walked around the island trying to meet girls (which they did - cell phone numbers exchanged) . One group on the island set up a generator and a water pump and built a huge 'slip & slide' that anyone could go on. Some of the "boats" on Texoma are 60 feet - major fresh water cruisers with multiple bedrooms. Also several 'cigarette' boats screeming about. Spoke with one guy whose boat had three 600 HP engines - something like 1-2 mpg at speed. Nothing like seeing a 35-40 ft boat throwing a 100-120 ft rooster tail. Got back yesterday afternoon and stowed the boat, mowed lawn and washed cars.

Nice soaking rain today and 77. Tropical Depression Hermine getting us some rain for the next 3 days. Cool front next weekend and more rain.

Have a water sports Boy Scout campout Sat Sept 18 at a local lake. Will be teaching water skiing and wakeboarding. Hope the weather holds. But with all the rain predicted the water will be quite cool - off course no ice floes like in Ohizo in mid-summer - but cool for Texas.

Prayers for Bob Angel

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Aloha all. Pretty morning .Sunny and cool. Got the inspiration to begin walking more at lunchtime by visiting office tower lobbies and checking if they have any interesting art. I will be thinking it's Monday all day today. LOL.

Buckeye Riveter

Life may have returned to normal.  Daughter and family are now living in NYC.  For the last month we have helped them get ready to move from a four bedroom home on a tree lined street to a two bedroom apartment with no parking.  Both cars were sold and the lawnmower is now at the lake.

Not good.  Little Baby Buckeye is too far away from your trains.

BTW: saw OSU playing Marsh.  Who the heck is Marsh???

Morning.  Up early to take Finn to groomers.  Now to get ready for a day and night of meetings.   All have a great week at work [for my SS].

It is a clear 58 degrees. Going up to 82 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I have a couple of small projects to do and the usual chores. One errand to run and then I can relax. Not  much else new.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Good point, RT.  I always try to be carfeul when wiring, but even the best of intentions can be disatrous.  Maybe that is why it took so long.  I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL and I can drive anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Prayers for Bob - hope they have this licked now Sad

Son and I replaced the light fixtures in the kitchen with hanging pendant lights.  Of course they are over a sink and an island on a vaulted ceiling, so have to climb way up and hang out while doing it.  I was very careful and had my son hold the ladder and hand me tools & etc.  A 2nd set of hands was essential.  Back and arm hurt, because you know the first configuration on the lights wasn't right, lol!  Neither was the 2nd.  Finally got it close enough and lights work so it's all good.

Went to my sister's house for dinner - we brought icecream cake.  Others brought pork tenderloin, burgers, dogs, potato salad, corn, beans, and other goodies. Dinner

TARDIS is ready and beacons are on the screen, so let's hit it Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evenin' All.

Busy day today, our "Kids Club" ran the layout today as they do on most monday holidays. Starting at 9am well before the museum opened and 4 new operators every hour thru 4pm. No wrecks or catastophies. Only casualty was the MTH Car Wash that died.

Angel for Bob !

Well, home again.  Did not want to come home.  Neither did the "kids".  Got meetings all day tomorrow and every day except Wed.  Can't go to the weekend as got VIP tickets for Garrison Keeler and Prairie Home Companion in Cary [neighboring town].  Probaly go back Sunday and fish all week.

Sorry none of you made the big pigpicking we gave on the 4th.  Lots of bar-be-que pork, slaw, mashed pototoes and sweet ice tea.  Had about 60 lake neighbors attend.  Got two quart bags of pork left over [after giving 5 quarts away].

Will catch up on postings later.  Took two hours to read all my emails.

Now for popcorn and Coke Zero.

Later.

BTW: Bob M has been back in the hospital but is out.  Last word [Friday night] he was doing OK.  Think Jack may have tried to call him today.

Well mike I know a home owner here doing a little more cussing after putting an outside light up turned power back on and had a $200,000.00 fire from it.

" The Columbia and Richland Fire Department teamed up Sunday to fight a Columbia house fire.

Officials said they responded at approximately 4:27 PM to Palatine Road.

Officials said it took approximately one hour for 45 firefighters from Columbia and Richland to put the blaze out.

Officials said the blaze started when the homeowner was installing a flood light on the outside of the house. The homeowner turned the power off to install the light, but when the homeowner turned the power back on there was a spark which led to the blaze.

Officials said there is $200,000 in damage."

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  @$#%^&^%$%@*&^#@(()*&# Team Red won again on fuel mileage at Kentucky.  "Special Ed" and Wheldon for Panther had the field covered, but the yellows fell wrong and Penske sneaked another one in.  On top of that Vitor tried to lap the Swiss Miss in a place he could not go and wound up taking him and her both out (did take out a Penske, tho).  Sarah had a horrible as she dropped out after running slow and Graham was so slow he finished behind Milka.  At least got to see Pippa Mann win the Lights race.  Spent today for six hours fixing %($*%)*#()&#()*&)&*&@($^#()&% light on barn.  Finally working.  I hope everyone has a %()$#)&$)#&$)&*) better day than me (LOL)!

Sunny and mid 80's here today.  Humidity is coming up, so it is not quite as nice as it has been for the last couple of days.

Waiting for the batteries in my drill to charge so I can finish assembling the new shelves involved in the most recent re-arrangement of my wife's sewing room. Just found out that they need to be painted too....

My sister and BIL visited Friday and Saturday.  Good visit.  Have not seen them since Memorial day.

We ran the last race of the season on Saturday night.  Convinced my BIL that he should get a pit pass.  He had a good time.  I don't think he has ever seen racing from the pit side of things.  We did not do well - DNF'd on a minor accident and a spin.  Too bad, as the setup on the car was as good as we've ever had it, and we were keeping up with the pack.

Grilled burgers, and corn on the cob toinght.

All for now.

Decades ago, I was at a beer tasting party.  Old Mill won!  Some said that it was not that it is a good beer, but that the judges were getting too buzzed.

All for now.

Doug, is Old Milwaukee a near beer?  I see it here in the super markets with the N/A brands,  I've been a teetotler since 1971 but I fondly remember my younger days with the Schlitz brand.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 63 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Went sailing with wifey yesterday afternoon, and there were lots of sailboats out there. Yes Unfortunately, there were some "uncivilized" stinkboat captains out there as well. No  ON any given weekend or holiday, you simply have to assume that the next guy has at least 6 Beer in his belly, and make your moves in advance.  After we got back to dock, went to my favorite Pirate lair, which is right next to a CSX (B&O) swing bridge, and actually saw 2 Dash9's pulla string of W&LE hoppers across Bear Creek.  Rails & Sails. Dinner

Watched the 14 cover the field last night.

Fife, alcohol and salt water don't mix.  That was told to me by a guy who put a 40 foot sailboat on the rocks of the Los Angeles Harbor breakwater and ripped the bottom out of it.  Ouch!

After thinking it over, I decided to make this a "Non-Labor Day" and do no work but play. That big pile of oak can wait.

Jon, Have a Fun and Safe Trip.

Dennis, Glad to see that you have a day off. Enjoy it.

Fife, He is a 1 in a million. He is going through a "Girl Friend Adventure". She is a piece of work and she keeps texting him. Her name is Amber and when his cell phones signals her text, to crank him up I tell him another "Amber Alert, Whoop, Whoop". I am sure that you will meet him. He likes to go to train shows and events with me, yes a 17 year old that hangs out with his old man.

Doug M., Enjoy the beach and the rug rats.

Enjoy the Holiday

Aloha all. Quite a different day from yesterday - warm, sunny. As soon as we get rid of the rug-rats my generous bride 'borrowed' who are eating us out of house-and-home this morning, maybe we'll go to the beach for the last day of the season. Figured out the best of my refinancing options -- I think -- finally.  Great to hear from Jon.  Ole Milwaukee is available for your imbibing pleasure at least here in Chicago. More down-market than it used to be I think. I've rediscovered Schlitz though.

Happy Labor Day to one and all!

It's been a brutal summer here in the Heartlands but I think we have survived,  Much to much to list and now we move to the fall season, actually looking forward to it.  It's been a stressful summer to say the least.

Dennis --  good to hear about the progress of the kids with their music, thanks for supporting the arts, you'll never regret that investment of time and energy.

Pat -- hope the Turkey on the smoker met your expectations.  We will have Thanksgiving here this year and I know Big Bird will the featured entree.

Buckeye -- you and the boss will be logging some serious travel miles in the near future to NYC.  We are fortunate to have both sons and families 2 & 4 hours away, hang in there.

Doug D. -- hope we can make it to Sandy Eggo sometime this fall, LOVE that town!

Doug M. -- thought of you this weekend while I was in Caboose Stop Hobby in Cedar Falls, their inventory is bigger than ever, unbelievable.

Rich -- best of luck with the job search!  Hope your MC riding has been good, super time of the year coming up for a quick get-away.

The boss and I are finally getting away to the Colorado Mtns. next week -- just the two of us!  It's been a long time since the two of us have been away on a non working trip.  I'm putting the Gold Wing on our trailer and I will ride for three days with 250+ friends, we are all staying at Copper Mtn. resort, FANTASTIC place and great rates as it's their low season.  We will hike several days and Sharyl will visit two of her sisters on a couple of those days as she doesn't ride with me.  Will be good to be away, we are about 700 miles to Copper Mtn. resort so it's an easy day, we will spend the first two nights in Denver at her sister's home to break up the trip and catch up with them.  Back in the day we used to play cards with them often as they just lived across the border in MN and at that time we lived in northern IA.

We have had our Grand Daughter here for a couple of long weekends (she's 4) and she just loves to be in the train rooms with us, what a special time.  We keep talking about our next layout, lots of ideas but we both really like our current layout yet we'd like to try something new, decisions-decisions.

Stay well everyone!

Jon

Good Morning from the Jersey Shore, 57 going to 82 and Sunny.

I have been pretty busy this weekend, Saturday, we ran the wires and hooked up my daughter's hot tub and then called and told the no show electrician not to bother. My son in law learned not to depend on his brother's friends. That is another story. After that I split a 1/2 cord of wood, relaxed had dinner and my wife and I enjoyed a nice quiet evening relaxing by the fire pit. Sunday, ushered at the 7:45 service, split about a cord of wood with my son and then went to my brother in law's pre Holiday BBQ. Today I am plannng on splitting more wood and going to the Official Holiday BBQ.

Dougdagrump, I like the story about the lost illegals and the fire. I hope that it is put out quick without any injuries, loss of life or property damage.

Navyjack, I have had the '65 Stang for a while. It has the original "A" code, 4 bbl. 289, warmed over to around 300 ponies, mated to the original 4 speed. To quote my wife, "It is not the fastest or the nicest car that you have owned. For some reason it is your favorite."

Fife, Happy belated birhtday to your son. My youngest is going to be 18 in November and I must have lucked out. This kid hardly asks for anything and is always helping around the house and whereever he is needed. Now he is talking about maybe doing a stint in the USMC before pursuing college and a career as a State Trooper.

Pat, Today for us is Deep Fry Turkey Day along with the burgers, dogs, corn and beer. My son suggested that we do some smoking and my brother in law amd myself are thinking of trying it with him.

Doug M, I know the feeling hen you hear kids "operating" the trains.

Chuck, You forgot Y'ALL. Anybody asks, you are from SOUTHERN OHIO.

Rich, Good Luck on the job search and be careful responding.

Prayer and Thoughts for all in need.

Have a great Holiday.
