Afternoon all. Better day today off and don't have memories going on in my head.

Hope all have had a good day. Took wife for a ride saw an old fire engine for sale and drove but the train museum here if I ever get to where I'm off on weekends I might look into maybe becoming a volunteer there but I work 2 weekends and off one and there only there like every other saturday or something like that.

Speaking of has anyone heard from laz. Has he fallen down one of them mine shafts up there in PA. Guess I will either give him a call or at least an email and see hows he doing.

Afternoon all.  Lazy day.  Slept late.  Extra tired.  Watched movies on the Halmark Channel [always a tear jerker].  May be going to the lake house for a few days.  Buddy Mayor who does the Operation Lifesaver thing forgot to send our names in.  Will know tomorrow if we get to go or not.  If going, back Tuesday night.  If not, back Wed night.  Train running from lst year's ending ponit to the coast and back.  Will have to drive to Goldsboro if we ride.  Worth it.

Garrison went to England and the show stopped.  Came and cranked it back up.  When I first moved to Rolesville [1986], his show came on TV on the Disney Channel at midnight on Sunday morning.  Use to sit up and watch it.  Wish it came on TV now.

Got .25 inch of rain.  First measurable in a long time.  Enough to kick start my turnips.  They are coming up good.

Sunny and cool today.

Bob, glad to see you are better and at work.  Prayers for RT [sorry for the loss] and Lee [I think things will get better for you, hand in there].

Later.

Good morning all, just a quick note as I am on my way to a TTOS train meet.

Chief, I love the news from Lake Wobegon.  I have Garrison's books and tapes as well.  I love one of his stories about everybody in the neighborhood growing too many tomatoes.  People would leave a bushel basket full on somebody's doorstep and run.

Did not want to watch the horror story on TV yesterday about the World Trade Center on 9/11.  It is imprinted on my mind.  How could we ever forget.  Only those who have never seen it need to.

Watched movie Cat Ballou Saturday.  Love that song sung by Nat Cole and Stubby Kaye about the dance hall gal singing, " I am old and gray and have lost my way"  Sad song.  I guess it's the harmony that got me.  It was background music while Lee Marvin (Kid Shaleen) was on his way to gun down his brother.

Got to run so have a good day y'all,

Ray

Good Morning From the Jersey Shore, It is finely raining.

I spoke to Navy Jack this morning and he sounds a lot better. We had a great, enjoyable conversation. My Thoughts and Prayers are with you, my friend.

Lee, I hope that your situation improves. I agree with the prices of trains going up. The price of lobor in China has gone up. I think that it is time for Lionel and the others to move production back to the USA.

RT, Sorry to hear about your cat. They are part of the family.

Chief, Pat: The Prarie Home Companion is a favorite of mine. I love Keillor's stories and I have him on tape and CD. Whenever his name is mentioed I think about the story about the Pontoon Boat and the Lutheran Ministers.

Rich, Good luck on the job search and have a blast in Wildwood.

Spanky, With all the stress in today's business world, heart attacks & panic attacks seem to be on the rise. It seems that there is not a secure job out there and employers are looking to push you with more duties and no pay increase. The new regime at  the head of our company for the last few years passed the decrie that there has to be a non-performer in each department eventhough there are none. I told the manager to make me. There are no raises and  bonuses this year so I don't care or will I take it personal. He said that he could not justify making me the non-performer. I go beyond what it is called for and he appreciated the offer.

Fife, I am in total agreement with you on 9/11.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

John

SJ - Great Pic of your layout. 3 levels is impressive. Enlarging the Pic to the original size shows even more detail.

Ground zero - I feel the same as all who have expressed opinions.

Yes, Keillor has a great show, always has been for decades.

Bob - that is a great pic!  Love ACE Hardware too, I try to give ours some business.

Down in the 50's last night, so I guess we are back to normal for September.  I heard the Farmer's Almanac is predicting a colder Winter.

Plans today include moving my gamertag to the new xbox and registering it, etc.  Also need to get up some drywall in the basement bathroom and Char wants to move the tv up here.  We'll see how it goes.  For now, it's time to wake the kiddos and I guess I'll go get some grub at McD's or something.

Ciao!

Good morning

Overcast again, summer left here in a hurry. sigh

If you saw the pic above all went well last night, the trains ran good but a couple things didn't work. I haven't been down there much this summer. The bascule bridge has a wire loose somewhere it may never be found, I just don't feel like messin anymore.

Enjoy your sunday...S.J.

Good morning all,

Just finishing some homemade oatmeal and then I will be getting ready for church.  Expecting a nice day today with comfortable temps and plenty of sunshine.  I am looking forward to all the NFL games this afternoon, especially after PSU's poor performance last night.

As for 9/11 - I purposely avoided the television news yesterday as well.  As someone in the military who has deployed four times since 9/11, I don't need to watch hour after hour of that horrible footage to be reminded of that day.  I suppose some do since my wife's aunt who was visiting yesterday asked me about the very large American flag hanging from the town's main firehouse.  I replied "It's Patriot Day."  She looked at me like a deer caught in the headlights.  I then stated "September 11th, duh."  I'm still not sure she got the correlation.

Good day all,

Joe

Aloha all. I got a cold / flu bug right in time for the weekend. Ugh. Hate being sick. But it did allow me to watch football all day, listen to 4 hours of my old time radio show, and generally get waited upon. Wink. Apart from feeling terrible, that's a pretty good deal.  I do love listening to the Keillor show and reading his books.

Good morning all.  Getting ready to head to church.  I am actually not scheduled for anything!  A rather rare occurrence.  Had a good time at the mission and all went well.  Had a lot of folks turn out for free food, games, horseback riding, etc.  We will continue once a week with ministry.

Whenever I think I have it bad, the Lord sends a person dealing with so much more.  Like Paul, "these small afflictions...", I have no real problems.  I am really blessed.

Well, time to head off.  Hope everyone has a great day and week ahead.
God Bless,
Dennis

Evenin' All.

RT, Know where you're comin from, no more critters in our house.

Fife, Purposely avoided the "Idiot Box" today. The PC folks will get me to P.O. to be rational plus I got to spend most of the day with the munchkin.

The munchkin spent the nite with us so we went to "Cruisin' Grand" last nite followed by Pizza. He and grampa got to ride in the front seat of an antique fire truck plus he was the horn operater for the driver. It was "Fire Truck" nite, from a steam powered horse drawn rig to one of the city's modern ladder trucks. Absolutely awesome, wish I hadn't  forgotten the dang camera. Lots of sweet rides, but I think his favorites were the "street legal bumper cars". He made grampa proud during the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance, standing tall with hand over his heart.

Nite all, prayers out for all in need. Especially on this day.

PS - Fife and Rich, couldn't agree more.

PPS - Great pic, Charlie Thumbs Up

PPPS - Chief, didn't they used to play the whole 3 hour show on NPR years ago?  I used to love that show, didn't realize it was still on the air.  I thought they cancelled it while Garrison was living overseas?

RT - sorry for your loss.

Prayers for our men and women who are protecting us at home and abroad and for all those who were in the attack or went in to save them.

Worked 6 hours OT today, had lunch with my sister, and then went by the Kirkwood Hobby Station.  Good store, wish I could get over there more often.  I picked up the new catalog, the new issue of OGR, and a book from Kalmbach about modeling freight yards.

Went out to eat with the family - split some nachos with my wife.  Son spent his allowance on a new videogame.  Then finally settled down at home and moved the cable to the kitchen/dining room area, so now the modem and wireless router are only about 25 feet away.  I have really noticed an improvement in the signal Smile

JimSP - they had some flyer stuff at the Hobby Station, including a depot with a crane, all tinplate.

Big congrats to Kurt and Charlie for the new depot - really cool!

Nice chats with the boys tonight - RT, SJ, and Charlie.  Banilla sounds good, so we better get moving guys - Tardis, Launch!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Back from Garrison Keillor [spelled right this time] and his Prairie Home Companion show.  Unbelievable.  Three hours solid of his show.  It is only one hour on NPR on Saturday night with repeat on Sunday afternoon.  Great news from Lake Wabigoon where the women are strong, the men are good looking and the children are all above average.  If you have never heard the radio show, Prairie Home Companion, then you don't understand what I just said.

Light rain [finally].  Turnips are coming up so this is good.  Now off to bed.

If you're like me, you just spent much of the day watching the various 9/11 documentaries.  If you're like me, you spent a little time getting mad about it.  And if you're like me, you question some of the conventional "wisdom" recently surrounding Ground Zero.

Good night.

Angryer and angryer.....We both lost "brothers" in this attack...and in my estimation, murdered....and the wrong people forget and will distort the events of the day.  Any other comment may get me the vitual slap on the wrist.....safe to say, I'm just as p***ed off (if not more so) as the day it happened.

I was told the weather today was as it was on that faithful day 9 years ago...I was honored and proud to be at my firehouse and ring our bell for the events of the morning.

On the train front, I coughed up $18 for a 1110 engine that needs some work, should have it Tuesday.  I'll see what magic I can do to it and post the results later on.  I may get some pictures of my Rescue 2 FDNY tank car...a bargain at $20.

OK, well, I'm gonna hit the sack, another eventful day on the morrow...good night my friends.

Sorry to here about the loss of your cat.  I know how painful that can be unfortunately.

Fife,

Trust me, you aren't alone in feeling that way.  I am the same way.  I won't go on about it here any further though.

Good evening all,

Just trying to remain calm as Penn State plays poorly against Alabama.  I know Alabama is the reigning champion and ranked number one, but PSU's offense is making way too many mistakes.  I guess you'll have that when you start a true freshman at QB.

Assembled the Ameri-Towne building I recently acquired.  It is progressing well and thus far I am pleased with the results.  I like these kits and will definitely buy more.  They appear to be good quality and are the perfect size for my small layout.

S.J. - I hope all went well with your club friends.

Good night,

Joe

Good evening all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana as we had liquid fall from the sky today.  Remarkable in that it had not occurred for a while.  Thunderstorms delayed one game, but I got both of mine reffed today.  I told the kids I would call "drop balls" if the elbows started flying.  They did and I did and then they didn't so it was two fairly clean games.  Worked out at YMCA last night.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Very sad day here our cat of 15 1/2 years passed away this morning right after I got to work. Doing O.T. today so may cut it short to go home and bury her. they did tell me yesterday if iwasn't feeling well ( have been having dizziness for a few) I could go home early if i want so probably will go at 11.

Talk to you all later will surely will miss her as our cats are our children seeing we never had any.

I know how you feel, and I know how much the cat met to you. We have been through that with our dogs  a number of times, each time harder than the time before.  We have no dogs now and don't plan to have any more. Just got tired of loosing them.

Good Saturday morning all,

Pretty lazy start to the day; however, I was up earlier than planned due to the baby.  Enjoyed some coffee with the wife as we watched some travel shows.  One of my wife's aunts and one of her cousins are coming for a visit this afternoon.  They are taking my wife to lunch since her birthday was last week.  Our daughter will also join them.  The boys and I will start assembling the Ameri-Towne building I purchased.  Other than that it should be a very low-key day.

RT - Sorry about the loss of your cat.  Pets are definitely like family members, especially after such a long time.

Prayers for all the 9/11 victims and family members.  And also for the first responders who may be ailing due to their service.  I hope our Nation never forgets this gutless attack.

Regards,

Joe
