A LONG HARD BATTLE BUT THE GOOD GUYZ WON!  Chief......I'll buy you a frosty when I see you to celebrate.  Did you ever settle on the location?  That too was a bone of contention, think you gave us a link to one of the meetings where the hired gun experts didn't know doo-doo from shinola.

Temps hit 100 in Boston today, 96 here in my hamlet.  Boston record for this date back in 1911 @ 101.  90s forecast for the rest of the week.  No rain forecast until the weekend.  I'm following the Scotts experts' advice, leaving the lawn mower at the highest setting and one good soaking of 1.5 inches of water a week.  I'm still losing the battle of neighborhood lawn stars as mine is browning faster......the others water with irrigation systems daily.  Too hot, too dry.

"Stay frosty guyz."  What became of Laz?

Jack.

Good Late Afternoon from the Jersey Shore, it hit over 100 and it still is HOT.

Bob, looking at the pictures of the Corvair 95 Van brought back a lot of memories. We still had them in 1972 when I first started working at the electric and gas company. They were in the gas co. and the biggest complaint was NO HEAT!!!! I know a Father and Son team that are big Corvair fans and they have a nice collection ranging from sedans, convertibles to a pickup and a van. They love them.

8n, Good Luck to the Father to be.

Chief, You don't have to worry about getting the new school. A couple of friends I know, Tony and Louie are going to make the Mayor of Raleigh "An Offer He Can No Refuse". Nice Joisey Boys.

Bob, Navy Jack, Ole Timer, I had a couple of friends of mine that were into English Sports Cars. They definitely used less gas than my American Muscle, BECAUSE THEY WERE ALWAYS BROKE DOWN! LUCAS IGNITION, LUCAS ELECTRICAL!!!! They were always working on them. When they ran they were great, but always tinkering. What do you want from a positive ground. I love BUSTING ABOUT OLD CARS AND BRING PEOPLE BACK TO REALITY.

RI Jack, Save those Buddies for the guys from Jersey. Still brewed in Newark, N.J. The first to go at our functions. Always need a backup.

Thoughts and Prayers to all in need.

Old timer, I am very grateful to your Dad and the men of his generation for keeping us all safe on the home front.  I am very proud of these men and the 29th Division.  I don't claim any credit for my own service however.  I was in between Korea and Viet Nam so we did not see any combat.  I just feel honored to have been allowed to serve in the same division.  God bless our veterans who are in harms way again today as well.

Chief, prayers for your mom and also for your new school.

Doug Murphy, nice looking group in the picture.

Have a good week.

ChiefEagles

Morning all.  Out the door to the meetings,  Prayers requested that Rolesville gets the High School.  I know the Lord is with us.  Let you know tonight.

Good Mornin Ya'll From The Northeat Steambath,

Chief.....prayers being delivered.  Marshalling the troops and outflanking the knucklehead....your plan will succeed.

Hit 89 here yesterday since I am only a mile off the ocean.  Inland temps approached 100 in spots.  Still no significant rain in the the forecast.  It was 78 this AM at 6:15AM and 92 by 9AM.....about where it will stay allegedly for the day with close to 100 inland again.

Three consecutive days and three consecutive cookouts at Grampy and Granny's place.  7 y/o granddaughter stayed overnight July 4 eve and sank into a coma upon hitting the sack, stayed that way until 8AM yesterday AM.  Kids are all on or all off!  Granny slept in and so the two of us got in a lot of quality one-on-one time together, having breakfast on the deck and then, after a digestion safety break, in the kiddie pool.  GD wore me out as I served as her sea horse for a few thousand laps.  Then we had "sword" fights with these long tube shaped floaty devices.  While I was smart enough to apply SPF 50 on the granddaiughter, I figured I didn't need it......wrong.  The dog is smarther than me.....he has enough sense to stay in the shade and ask to go into the a/c'd house.

Measured the pool yesterday: 15 feet across and 28" deep, large enough for the kiddies and for the adults who can't stand the heat anymore.  Water temp was 82 at 10AM.  Think I have defeated the algae issue as the pool is nice and clear.  The daughter and SIL showed up with the 1 year old granddaughter and just one friend and FOOD!  Little ones stayed in the pool with adults while the men cracked a beer or three to plan out the cooking strategy.....ya gotta have a plan.  We grilled mahi-mahi, chili cheese dogs, cheeseburgers, and some sort of Portuguese sausage that looks like Polish sausage with the same consistency but quite different taste wise.  Salads out the ying yang and a yummy rice dish the daughter whipped up.....I'm nuetral with rice but not this one!  Had two gluttony-sized helpings of that with plenty of yummy leftovers left behind.  Dinner

DougM......thanks for the 4th parade photos!  I noticed there are no cupholders in your chairs.  Hope you get a sensible rain.  How is the new deck furniture working out?

OleTimer and NavyJack....got a video clip from Brutus' Dad about teaching our youth and others about respect for the sacrifices of our soldiers, many of whom were/are family members.  Made me think long and hard about the stories of my Dad and my FIL who both during WWII participated in the Pacific theater about how close we came to speaking a couple of other languages.  "He who ignores history is doomed to repeat it."  God bless the troops, may He/She keep them out of harms way.

SJ.....lay low in this heat.  That is what my dog is doing.

Have been thinking of Fife sailing the water of the Chesapeake.  Certainly he has room in his busy vacation schedule for that!  I could picture him on the 4th laying off the harbors and taking in the fireworks on the evening of the 4th.  Pirate

NavyJack, OleTimer, RaySP, and SubBob......Triumphs, Austin Healy's, MGs, burned out Alphas, Jags.  It seems like many of us or our friends were bitten by the open air British cars until the maintenace drove us into bankruptcy.  I drove cheap American junkers and remained envious of my friends until I could afford my first "real" car.  There is a 1969 Corvette sitting under a tarp on stands in my garage.......for the day when it is my turn again.  Responsibility has its price.

Pat/Banks......of course we appreciate youse farmers.  We just don't want to say so and have it go to your heads.  Big Smile

Chuck.....since walking is one of your present exercises de jour, I'll ship you my dog and you can walk him.  He's a chick magnet.

MikeC.....I'm curious.  How many minutes playing soccer in this heat and humidity until the thrill is gone?  Smile,Wink, & Grin

DougDG, Don, and RaySP......is the CA fire season upon you yet?

Brutus......since you are R&Ring the basement and that is where the trains are going, have you considered wide pocket doors?  More room for the trains and for hauling the big stuff into and out of there.  Thumbs Up

HudsonJohn/Rich/Dennis......our local FD was so busy this past weekend responding to all manner of issues, heard plenty of sirens.  A large two family home went up in our downtown area and took out parts of two adjacent homes, plus the heat was so intense and the fire so close to the street that two cars exploded.  My wife and I live about 200 yards from an exit ramp for the highway and in the middle of chow the evening of the 4th we could hear tires screeching followed by a loud bang.  Sirens shortly thereafter.  Some guy thought he was a race car driver, took the exit ramp way too fast, lost control, and hit another vehicle.

Demay......those WII games are dangerous and humiliating.  My 7 year old granddaughter whipped everyone's behind in the boxing, more than once.  The winner kept fighting the next challenger.  It only took about 45 minutes before she finally ran out of gas......for about 5 minutes.

Later, gang!  As Laz would say......stay frosty. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Jack

PS:  beer inventory down about one third after the weekend's festivities.  It seems No One touched the Buttwiper beer, not a single can.  Brutus......a slam on St. Louis and AB.

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

Navyjack ... do I ever wish I still had it ! I even at one time thought of getting one in a kit car . I loved the triumphs and mg's back then . There was a group of us that would meet every 2 weeks or so and have rallies ... not me in my mg ... but those guys would race . As you I always wished for an Austin Healy ... I always thought the body style was stolen for the ford cobra ... think about it ... they used the austin healy concept ! Oh forgot to mention ... that hole in the middle of the front bumper was for a crank to start it if the battery was dead ... lol . I still remember a jag xke for sale back then for $2,900.00 .... and I let it go .... Dunce  ... of course that was alot of money then ... I was makeing a whopping $1.25 an hour ... Sigh

Good Morning from the Jersey Shore, 97 at 10:15, sunny, going to 100.

Back from fishing. 1 keeper Fluke/Summer Flounder. Keepers have to be 18". We caught a number of throw backs. Keepers in previous years. Since we had only 1 and had him in the live well, we released him as well.

Chief, Good Luck with the school and the best for your Mom.

Thoughts and prayers for all in need.

Morning all

Going to be another hot one in Southern Ohio.  Trimmed trees yesterday.  I am beginning to think I getting too old to climb up into them.  I did have a new pruning saw so it was real sharp!

Going to take the camper off the truck then tear off the roof on the garage on the house we're fixing up to sell.  Going to take plenty of water with me.

A tip for finishing doors;  drive a large finishing nail in the center top and bottom of the door. so it sticks out about 1 1/2".  Put the doors on saw horses with the nail acting like an axle.  Do one side, flip the door then do the other side.

Chief- Prayers for your mom.

Time to get to work.

May God bless,

Jim

Aloha all. Pretty day here back at work. Have to remember it's not Monday so I don't forget class tonight. That would be bad.... Looks like everyone had a safe and happy Fourth - continued prayers for your mom's comfort, Chief.  Brutus, I always hung the door first and painted what showed Wink, My neighbor does it the right way, painted one side of the door on sawhorses, let it dry, then flipped it to do the other side. sun and 90s today, the heavy breathing kind.

Guess I'll stay in for most of today, don't like missing a summer day though so I will do something. Like the folks where it gets hot, I might wait till evening.  Granny's babysitting this week so I need to find something I can burn for breakfast....S.J.

Big Smilewes, i really enjoyed the pic of the td.  do you ever still dream that it is still under a tarp in your garage? i dream about my tr3 like that.  the tr3 was like a poor mans jag xk-120.  always wanted a healy also. can you imagine when i was stationed in long beach, in 1981 a dealer still had a brand new mgb in the showroom? it was electric blue and had a pricetag of 7,000 bucks, i did not have it then..... well now i have a 1/43 scale tr-3 by corgi and that is better than nothing.  sbmmbob has a real "b" parked in his driveway.  he is a lucky guy.  navyjack

Hot as the dickens here and dry. Cut some second cutting hay today.  (big fat Doe stood in fence row and watched me) Not much of it . It was thick , green and short. It was all most ready to bale as soon as cut. The rest of the fields will be chopped to feed cows daily as pasture has been gone for a while.(been feeding hay)

Don't you just hate it when you have to feed hay in the summer? I am almost to that point. 90-100 degrees for a week and no rain. Don't dare clip the fields. Good thing I rotational graze. May have to buy additional hay soon.Thumbs Down

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s.  Supposed to be hot and dry all week.  Watched a tape of a F-1 race last night.  Still enjoy those races.  Makes me wish they were still running at Indy.  Really, really enjoyed watching them run, and the fans were fun to watch as well.  Back to work to pay for Chief's SS.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL anytime.  Prayers for all who need them.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening folks!  Started off nice in the morning around 83 degrees, but got up in the 90's.  Got in a few hours yesterday and a few more today and got most of the stuff out of the basement and stored in the garage.  My truck will spend a few months on the driveway.  My kids were really great helps and so I treated them to icecream today (Maggie Moos) and to some books at Barnes & Noble.  I still need to get a couple desks and a couple book cases out, but that will require the help of another guy I think.  I'll call up a buddy and see if he can help me out.  Need to get some more plastic tubs to store my trains during the final push on the construction and then all the mudding and painting.

Just remembered, I need to get the doors!  Do you put them on first or after the paint work is done?

Tardis is ready and we have pretzels, chips, and also popcorn, if you don't want banilla after eating chocolate batter icecream earlier Laugh

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Smilehello bob, thanks for sending the pics.  you are a true car guy.  i especially like the mgb that you can see the side view of.  when i had my tr3, i had radiator trouble, and you had to take the whole front off the car to get to it.  i also used to blow the cluster gear, and you had to remove the whole tunnel between the seats to work on the tranny.  i loved that car anyway. chief, i hope that your mom is better.  wes, lost another on30 shay.....never will give up.....navyjack

Bob, brings back memories.  That will be a great vehicle when you finish.  Burg and I are alone.  Wifey, Finn and Lucy have gone to the lake house.  Tomorrow afternoon is the battle with the Raleigh Mayor for my high school.  He has really taken a beating in the letters to the editor and some editorials over his attempt to block me getting the high school.  Several Mayors have come out in support of me.  I have the "promised" votes to win.  Now if I don't win, one County commissioner is in deep trouble in her reelection attempt.  Three Mayors will come out against her and that would be the "kiss of death".  Popcorn, Coke Zero and TV time.

BTW: Mom recognized me twice.  Took her some time to answer who I was but she made it.  She slept most of the time I was there.  She wants to stay in bed all the time.

Sunny with afternoon showers, temps in the high 80's.  I don't have to water the veggie patch now.

Happy 4th #2.

Quiet day.  Got the new tub drain set installed - like usual, the 'universal fit' didn't. That's OK.  I made a stop at the DQ on my trip to the store fpr parts. Watched Crank II with my wife - odd absurd movie - but entertaining.

Had another 'traditional' 4th meal today - grilled hamburgers, potato salad, corn on the cob, and red, white & blue berry desert.

Back to work tomorrow.  Gotta keep those SS coffers full.  The plant is in shut down this week.  Since I don't have any heavy projects for shutdown, I have delusions that I'll be able to work normal 8 hour days.  We'll see.  The goal is to get the cement board up around the tub and start tiling this week with all of the spare time my 'lighter' schedule at work will produce.

Racing will probably be kabashed for a while.  The owner/driver is due to become a 1st time dad on July 12.   He is starting to get a little nervous.

All for now.

Spent the 4th at some friends from church property east of Tucson. Nice place they have out there. Reminds me of the camps my relatives had up in ME (albeit, much less water). Brought my little optical scope and gave an impromptu star party, need to practice a bit more though as it's been a while since I actually looked thru the tube.

Spent the night and came back this morning. Stopped in Benson for lunch at a little place near the tracks. Got to see two UP trains hustle through town. Jeep got among the best mileage I've seen yet. Still nothing to write home about, but not bad for something w/ 4.10s that will climb a tree.

Here's the view out the garage at the moment. Waiting for paint to dry on the rear suspension parts. Learning how to use a sprayer.  In the foreground is the used engine that hopefully will be going in this week.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Bob

Good Evening from the Jersey Shore, it is down to 92.

I agree with you SJ, banilla and root beer sounds great.

Off to the Firehouse for a drill. It may be cancelled because of the heat. After looking at my last post, yesterday's haz-mat call was the next town down, Stafford not Barnegat. It was in a rehab center in the Manahawkin section.

Fishing tomorrow morning. Early incoming tide. Looking for Summer Flounder.

Thoughts and prayers for all in need.

Aloha all. Sunny and hot here like most of the country. Sounds like everyone had a great holiday.

Just back from the parade... 2 hours long in 90 degree heat. But I had a great seat with the bride and the youngest since I helped a policewoman set up the sawhorses to block the side streets.  Bands, fire trucks, local businesses and churches and the politicians. Fireworks tonight out over Crystal Lake. We'll watch from afar/ Our town does things on this day this year since it was so much cheaper. Wink  Went to the inlaws yesterday for their fireworks. Back to work tomorrow. Annual White Sox game Thur.  A few photos from Fathers Day..

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s.  Ran the Santa Fe freight last night.  Took a while for it to loosen up, but by the end of the evening, it was cycling thru the three position direction cycle fairly well.  Played "Double Crossing" with the family last night.  Trimmed trees along the the property line and took PT and the truck in to have tires rotated and oil changed.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL any time tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
