Thanks for all the Bday wishes! Cake was "Safe", no candles on Birthday Cakes are allowed during the fire season. Fortunately the current fire is North of LA, up in the Palmdale/Lancaster area. For the mostpart a rather desolate area.
Had an enjoyable day! We recently got FIOS tv capability, and one of the new channels available is RFD TV, obviously I am enjoying the train shows. But I came across "Big Joe's Polka Show", since the inlaws are Slavik/Polish, I tapped about 3 episodes, and played them today. They were a major hit! Everyone really enjoyed them, some for the music, others for the audience, some for the "hoakyness". But lots of laughter. Chris brought in a bottle of Baker's wiskey. Boy is that ever good stuff. Made by Jim Beam and is a Kentucky sour mash. Talk about smooth...... a little expensive, $50 for 750ml bottle. I didn't realize Beam had such a high quality bourbon.
Anyway, thanks for all the well wishes! Glad to see that the surgery went so well for Bob.

My wife said that she was up and dressed in 'civies' this morning, expecting to be released. The morning vitals check revealed that she had low blood oxygen. Back into hospital gown, restart the IV, took chest x-rays, stay overnight for observation. However, she is moving well - even got into trouble with the nurses for wandering the hall with her walker alone! We walked the hallways and talked while my son and I visited. Left behind an 'escape bag' - a change of cloths, her cell phone, and a box of non-hospital crackers. Hopefully tomorrow.

Long two days, I'm pooped. Long crazy day at the museum yesterday but even longer and crazier today. They had a big Museum B'day bash today that was highly advertised including cake and all kinds of stuff. People were pretty much elbow to elbow from 11am til 5pm, the dogs are really barking. Now, to get ready for "free tuesday".

Worked on the project today. I had forgotten that I had to put additional screws in the deck boards and The Q reminded me last nights and since it was really nice this morning I knocked that out. Also painted the new piece of moulding. Hope to get that and the crown moulding hung tomorrow when we get back from the family reunion....

Well, I didn't get everything finished on the layout airport today as hoped; too many other things came up. An important one - a quick nap on the sofa. I guess the early wake-ups with the baby are catching up with me. I did cutout the foam tunnel portals I plan to use on the entrances. Because of the size of my entrances I am unable to use Lionel or other manufactured products. I am planning to paint the foam pieces and either give them a stone finish or ground cover finish. If anyone has any tips I'll gladly accept them.
Sir James - Had pizza for dinner as well. My wife makes it herself, dough and all.
Dennis - The wife and I saw the Phantom on Broadway back in 2004. We both enjoyed it very much. My parents took my siblings and I to shows when we were kids to expose us to different things as well. I'm glad they did. I already do the same with my kids - my 7y/o son and I watched Lawrence Welk on PBS this evening.

Got two CD sets from Amazon in the mail today. Both from Broadway plays, one Phantom of the Opera-original cast, the other was from Les Miserables-London 10th anniversary cast. I had seen both and had great musical production....want to share a little culture with the kids. I know it is not every one's cup of tea, but we like it.
Speaking of cup of tea, I ordered one of the billboard reefers with the Lipton Tea on the side. My mother was an avid tea drinker (think it was required from those who were born across the pond). Anyway, as a tribute to mom, it will hold a place of prominence on the layout.

I've got two cousins, brothers, who both got caught up in drugs. They tried moving back in with my Aunt JoAnn as grown men - I mean like in their late 40's. One did straighten out, but the last I heard the other one was still living in a car with a dog and bathing in people's swimming pools, etc. Growing up in the 60's and 70's I saw a lot of kids get into drugs and end up dead or totally screwed up.
Rich - God Speed. Be careful and take lots of breaks, that's a long haul.
JimSP - You are a hard working man. God bless you and your family.
John - you're a good guy to do all that work on that truck. Wish you lived near me
Okay guys - family touched down and all are safe and back home with me now after their vacation. Having some hassle with the leave bank for my wife, so we'll get additional documentation from the doctor asap. The guy who should have had this all taken care of back about July 8th completely dropped the ball, which will cost us in stress, time and money. Reminds me why I get aggravated at some of the people at work who blow off stuff until it's really old, then pawn it off on others (including me). They aren't just affecting their co-workers, but there are real people with real problems out there who are getting hurt by that behavior as well.
Tardis will be ready shortly, so you all turn on your beacons as we have peach, pee-can, banilla, and RT made brownies for us as well. I'll bet there is some zuchinni bread somewhere too. Pat might bring his famous lamb fries, too Jack's dog loves 'em! Guess we will be missing Don tonight, but all the other regulars (all you guys on the coffee pot) - we'll be along shortly!

Dennis, You are absolutly correct about drugs in the restaurant business. My nephew said that he really escalated his use when he worked at the last restaurant. The owner of the restaurant had a 0 tolerance for drugs and I found out that they fired him for it. He worked there about 3 years. He said that they are there also. He was caught with 2 others and they were all fired.
Harold, Last week my brother in law went with my son and I on our trip to Lancaster, PA. We talked about his son's problem and that is their next move. They can't trust him at all. They are afraid if they throw him out he will get worse and wind up dead. He is for throwing him out but my sister in law is hesitating.
Bob, Glad to see that you are getting around. Take it easy so that you don't hurt yourself. Good luck with the seats.

thanks for the info ray. the cars i am looking for are not prototypical and are yellow and blue and lettered shenendoah express. they will go with a williams ep-5 i have(also not prototypical) lettered for virginian also same color. my little world i guess. bob it was great getting a call from you. i may be related to an ed as i have lots of relatives on the east coast, mostly in the maryland area. when my dad came home from the war, unfortunately he was very secretive about his family. i know that they came from bavaria and that they were not nazi, so they left germany. he joined the army air corps in ww-2 and fought the japs. we was a gunner in a b-25(the wolf pack) port moresby new guenea(spelling)? wes are you getting my e mails or am i goofing up? thanks navyjack
Good afternoon all, I have been going nuts yesterday and today trying to figure out a problem with my MTH DCS TIU. It is hooked up to two loops of track. One of the loops has stopped working and is getting no power through the TIU. I am using a PW Lionel ZW transformer temporarily while my MTH Z4000 is being repaired. The power does seem to get through once in a while. Once it did and I ran a train in conventional mode around the loop a few times. I thought I smelled some hot wires so I shut everything down. I'm afraid there might be something wrong with one of the TIU channels. I have been getting some hints from folks over on the DCS forum but so far I have been unable to solve the problem. I hope things will work better when I get the Z4000 back.
Meanwhile, best wishes to those of you who have real problems.
Navy Jack, I have not seen the Virginian cars you speak of. No doubt they are nice looking if you don't care if they are prototypical or not. Incidentally, the real Virginian Railway only ran one passenger train each way back in the 50's between Norfolk and West Virginia. The train consisted of a pacific type 4-6-2 steam locomotive and three cars usually. They were baggage/mail and two coaches. It was all heavyweight equipment in Pullman green color I think. At least I remember, they were a dark color. The N&W paralleled the Virginian in a lot of places and carried most of the passengers. The Virginian train was sort of an accomodation train used for company deadheading and a few passengers along the line. They did carry some mail however.

Dennis neighbors went through some hard times with their son.They lost some friends because they refused to believe it was their son who stole from them. Once they realized the problem they had to throw him out for him to clean up.His mother took him to his meetings every week and really kept on him.It took awhile but he has turned out ok.I wish your friend well during this difficult time and will remember them in my prayers.

They did the surgery as outpatient, so unless there had been complications they were not planning on keeping me. She said my liver and everything else in the area looked fine. The bile duct test was normal as well.
Woke up at 5AM feeling pretty sore. About 8 hours w/ no meds. Doing ok right now, but have to watch the movements. Your gut muscles are involved in everything. Just "throwing a wiz" can be a challenge.
My friend who has a VW repair shop has some Vanagon seats for me for the Corvair. Nancy and I will go take a look at them today. If I end up buying them, she will load them in her truck
