John, I have seen and heard a number of cases where drugs are rampant in the restaurant business. For anyone struggling with such an addiction, that is not the business to be in.
Joe, Jim, Fife, thanks for the thoughts. Ultimately, I think it is going to come down to "Tough Love". One other thing about her son, he has had some kind of back injury, so he is on disability and has nothing to keep him away from the bad influences.
Navyjack, Are you related to a Ed Virgin? We had a LT. by that name on the fire department in NJ. Real good guy. I am sure he is long since retired.
Check back later,Dennis

Morning all
Cheerios for breakfast, morning prayer complete, animals fed, and I am off to work on tearing off the garage roof. It is overcast so it should not be too bad. I work in the heat with my job as the process building stays > 90°F all the time.
The whole drug abuse issue is so sad. I dare say there is not a family who is not directly or knows of a family where this plague has hit. The victims are everywhere. Part of my daily prayer is for those victims. The drugs changes the person, and the drug becomes the center of their life. You must still love the drug addict, but our love is acted out by not “helping” in the typical manner, but by letting them fall and be broken. When they are broken, not when we think they are broken, can progress in coping with the addiction begin.
Fife – Good idea to listen to those little voices, especially when it is doing a good thing. It is your guardian angel. There has been lots of times when that little voice has led to good, or kept me from getting hurt. Hey Brent, no just kidding.
May God bless
Jim
dwiemer - I've seen this scenario more times than I care to talk about. Your lady friend needs to put that parasitic child out of her life, before he ends hers (by stress, or by his own hands).
Good morning all,
Pretty fine looking morning today, but I know it is going to be very hot later on. I don't have any set plans for the day. The 7y/o son and I need to get haircuts, especially since I return to work Monday. These last three weeks off have been great. I may swing by the one very small hobby shop in town (mostly sells RC cars and planes) to see if they have any Woodland Scenics turf shakers. I want to finish the scenery part of the layout airport soon.
Dennis - Since I am in the Air Force I have been very fortunate to live and spend much time overseas. My wife and I both love to travel and see new things. We do not like planned tour groups because they can sometimes pack too many activities into a short amount of time. Something like a Holy Land tour will be doing exactly that - trying to get you the most bang for your buck. We are more adventurous and prefer to find things on our own. However, I know when you're strapped for time, those group tours can be beneficial. We used to live in Germany and were only about a four-hour drive from major European sights such as Paris, Amsterdam, Munich, Belgium, etc, not too mention many other lesser known places. It was nice to go on weekend trips and move at our own pace. Right now we are considering a trip to Bavaria this Christmas. In Israel, security is everywhere and I actually did not feel threatened or in danger at all. The people were very friendly and most spoke English. If you decide to go let me know, I can answer many questions for you.
See you all later,
Joe
Dennis, I just saw your post. The violin teacher seems like a great and interesting lady. It is a shame about her son and it is great that you are trying to help. We have a similar problem in our family with a nephew. He was away in rehab last year. He came back, continued consouling, but went right back, at first he had us fooled, but it came out. He is constantly stealing from his family and guests when they come over as well as perscription drugs. He has 2 other siblings and the other 2 want nothing to do with him. He has not worked in a few years and between rehab and a 1/2 effort going to school, ( he goes to school because if he did not he would be kicked out of the house) he just hangs out and does almost nothing to help his parents. He is 28yrs. old with no future of drive. He flunked out of college his sophmore year and barely passed his freshman year and that was years ago. He has worked in retail stores and as a waiter for the time up to 2 years ago. His parents and my wife have done everything to help him, but nothing works. He promises that he will stop and go to rehab, but he fakes it and does what he wants. My thoughts and prayers that they both will see the light and turn their lives around.
John
Good Morning from the Jersey Shore, A beautiful, comfortable morning, looks like another good day.
It has been a busy last couple of days and I did not get a chance to be on the Pot. I see a lot went on. Having Fridays off for the summer is great. I spent the whole day yesterday working on my son's 1984 Ford F150 4x4 as he went to play paintball and took the Explorer. I told him to go and that I would change the hoses. As I looked the truck over, 1 thing lead to another and I did a complete service, including making a new battery tray and hold down, plus flushing the cooling system. When he got home he could not thank me enough. I know this truck well. I bought it new and it has almost 300,000 mi on it. Another busy day today, my daughter asked me to help her move mulch/woodchips today. She has about a 4 yard pile that someone dropped off for her.
Navy Jack, My thoughts and Prayers for your neighbor. I wish him the best in finding a job and getting his life on track. You are a great friend and neighbor. I am fond of the RS3 also. I have a "couple" myself. The Sea Shadow is cool. I am sure that this current administration had a lot to do with it. Yeah, Right.
Mike C, Congratulations on the Grand Daughter. May she be healthy and have a happy successful life. With Soccer, encourage the girls for next year. I hope your visit with your HS friend went well.
Rich, Good Luck with the move. Keep on Truckin.
8N, Thoughts and Prayers for your Wife and Father in Law's recoveries. About the house chores, do like I do. Run around and do them real quick about an hour before it is time for her to come home.
Bob, Glad that the surgery went well. Enjoy the Corvair Club and your trains.
Jim, Congrats on 32 years of marriage. I am right behind you.
SJ, Good news about granny's recovery. You were not lazy about trimming, just side tracked and you wanted the "grass to stabilize before trimming". Yes I was in the Union for 30years before going into management. I have used and heard them all.
Papa diesel, Sounds like a great trip. It is perfect if there are no break downs.
Green97probe, Jim, Good luck on the job hunt. Keep a positive attitude.
Harold, You have great kids to be proud of. I would cherish that gift for the rest of my life.
Brutus, Glad that you are feeling better.
Chief, That drive home was a gift from nature and nature tellig you that your car needed a washing. Glad that you made it home safe.
Dennis, Enjoy your wekend. Sorry to hear about the firefighter's son's death and tragic life. It makes you reflect back on your life and be thankful.
Fife, I know West Marine quite well and I believe they have a battery sale going on. Some of their prices are good others are high. That little voice to stop in and check on Fifeygramma, i had that Wednesday with my Mom. I am going to spend a night or 2 a week there for a while. Something does not seem right. I am using the excuse that I am on call at work and she lives closer to the shop.
Chuck, Dining Car arrived. Bagels and a smear for breakfast and then sending it South.
Thoughts and prayers for all in need.
Have a Great Day,
Good morning everyone. It is a beautiful day out, but I am sure it will be a hot one as AC kicked on at 0700. Wife is working and so I am home with the kids. Plan to get some of the honey do list done and make SWMBO a happy woman. (Besides, it will allow for more time on the layout later )
Bob, glad to hear you are at home. Guess they were able to do it through the scope. As mentioned earlier, you will have to take it easy. Though things are much better with the scope, abdominal surgery is still a painful experience. Even more than when we do hearts as the abdomen is always in motion.
Joe, thanks for the heads up on Israel. It has been a desire of mine for some time. Just need to make it happen. I do hear that it is not the type of vacation that is relaxing as you are always on the go with so much to see. Plus, I think it is only natural for ones "guard" to be up.
We took the kids violin teacher out to dinner last night. She is in her 80's and is really a fun lady to have in company. She has lived in a number of places across the country and has met a number of famous people and plenty of fun stories to tell. On a troubling note, her son who is in his 50's has developed an addiction to crack. He has started to steal from her. Puts her in a most difficult position. I have contacted someone with a whole lot of experience in such issues from the Sheriff's Dept. Hope he has some suggestions that we can help.
Hope everyone is having a blessed weekend.Dennis
Mornin' boys. Beautiful moorning in the Mid-Atlantic region. Watered the garden and adding some fresh H2O to the pond (which I think might have a hairline leak ). After dropping wifey off at work, will be down in mancave sprucin' things up should anjdevil hook that right hand exit off of 95. 88 - I'll buzz you if he calls from Quantico.
Speedy recovery to submmbob and Mrs 8ntruck.
Hudson - I literally missed the boat on Wed. Wifey and #2 princess were out shopping, and I was left standing at the dock. Discovered my house battery bit the dust, so off to WestMarine...again. Oh well. Fifeygramma lives nearby store, so stopped by for a visit (little voice told me to...hope that don't mean something...)
Nothing new on the train front. Still waiting for my favorite train store to call with my WM Gp-35. Wifey just informed me that we may do a road trip in Oct to MAINE for #2 princess college open-house.
Cuh---ching...
hey harold, welcome to the coffee pot. i am a newcomer, but these guys are all great and have made me feel welcome also. sbmmbob....dont know for sure, havent read your post, but think you have come out of the hospital and are doing well. i am glad to hear it. i know that the sky will be watched properly again. ha..ha..still looking for virginian passenger car williams streamline set. also decided on lionel s-2 electric for next loco. weather is not forecast to be too bad this weekend. need a break anyway. wes i was trying to get on your facebook so we could talk guns and logging. my real name is jack virgin. navyjack
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cloudy 68 degrees. Going up to 86 today with a chance of rain.
Today is a busy day. I have some paperwork to do and the usual chores around the house. PT went well yesterday. I am achy today. Right knee hurts right now. I need to work it today to loosen it up.
Not much new in the train subject. Still have to order my new car from Marty.
Dining car is here and it's a Cheerios breakfast.
Y'all have a great Saturday.
Chuck
Brutus Im really lucky to have 3 great kids.Oldest is my step daughter but we have been together since she was 3.As far as she is concerned I am daddy. She turned 16 this year. How time flies. Also have 9 year old princess and a 6 year old son.
Bob you the man, couple hours out of surgery and your running trains.Glad it went well. 8N good news about the wife.Joe looks like Ill be contributing for another 24 years so Id better live long enough to get something out of it.
Glad to hear all went well Bob. I hope you have a speedy recovery - it sounds as if you're already on that path.
8N - Enjoy your time off and your good news. I'll be paying these old geezers' checks for another 20 years or so and I know I won't see any of it. I'll write it off as charity.
We had a pretty quiet day. I finally mowed the grass. Then I had time to troubleshoot an uncoupling track, and test the operating crossing gate. All went well and are working.
Good night,
Bob.....great news. Home so soon? Who did you pith off to get ejected that quickly? Hook up with 8N and start picking out tattoos for yourself and his wifey. Maybe you can get a volume discount?
Jack.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Rainy, cloudy, sunny 90 today.
Bob - hope your recovery goes well.
My wife thinks that they are going to release her from the hospital tomorrow. Her PT had her out for a couple of walks today, one included stairs. Maybe I won't have to do a ramp this weekend after all. I mentioned the 'hide the scar with a tatoo' idea to her tonight. She thought a minute then said maybe a dragon or a snake, or even a snake looking like it is wound around the scar like the medical symbol. No new news about FIL. In our family, no news about things like this is good news.
So sorry, all youse old guys. I'm on vacation next week - won't be contributing to your SS checks.....
All for now.
Glad to hear things are going well, Bob - hang in there!
Had some rain storms here in the Saint Louis are today. Worked, played a video game for a while, and now chatting with RT, SJ and Charlie. Wife and kids come home from KC tomorrow, so I'll have to spif the place up a bit when I get home from work tomorrow. Hope all have/had a great one today
Tardis is ready and we have brownies from RT, so let's hit it! Just need some banilla
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hello all
Surgery went well. They actually called me up and had me come in early. The surgeon was great. She knows her stuff and is great for support. Stomach hurts pretty good and I could use some sleep as I didn't get much last night. Ran the trains a bit to show Nancy after we got back.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I'm honored to know all of you.

SPJim and Dennis,
I went to Israel a few years ago for work. I was there for about 45 days. I was able to visit the prominent holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as the Massada and Dead Sea. I spent time in Tel Aviv and some smaller towns in the south. Israel is an amazing place even with all that goes on over there. I would like to go back with my family on a vacation some time.
Good afternoon everyone. Home already and so far it is a nice day...hot, but nice. Fed Ex dropped off our son's new violin. This would be a whole lot cheaper if they didn't grow so fast and need a larger one. At least the kids are far enough apart that daughter will get son's current one and so on.
Got some sad news today. The son of one of the guys who was killed from the FD while I was up there died this week. He didn't have a good life from many aspects, but it is still sad that its over.
Jim, I too want to go to Israel. Our church goes over every year, so it may happen someday soon. From what others have told me, it is like no other experience.
Chief, hope you are able to get the interview done and head to some peace and relaxation soon. We are looking at some thunder boomers again this afternoon. Hope it is not too bad up your way.
God Bless,Dennis
Prayers for Bob's surgery
Congratulations to Jim and his bride on 32 big ones. God Bless.
Congratulations to Mike for the new baby.
Yesterday was a zoo. Waited over half the day for service people to show up and they finally came about 2:00PM after promising morning time. The plummer and the tree trimmers showed up at the same time so they had to dodge each other in the yard. Plummer was fixing sprinkler system. Cable TV took a dump but got that back on this morning with a call to Time Warner.
Still waiting for my MTH Z4000 to arrive from Maryland. It was due yesterday.
Have a good day y'all,
Ray
SPMan
Happy Friday,
Heat up to 110F today...
Subbob, 8N's Mrs & FIL
Got more packing done last night, returned my consignment items to the owners, so that put me behind schedule. But had the Princess with me and that made it more fun. We stopped to get a book which she read to me on the way back. She probably stayed up all night to read it. She does that.....alot....but at least she reads!
I got my exit interview done, have to close out the month and then off to pack some more. It's very stressful, everybody wants me to stay, but I have to do what I have to do.
TGIF, my friends, hope to see you all on the other side of the month. I'll be checking in until 5 pm.
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
8ntruck - Sorry, I thought it was your brother-in-law that was sick. I hope something is found out quickly about your FIL.
Yesterday, the family and I drove to OK City for the day. I went on a Hobby Lobby run since I knew they had hugely discounted many of their model train items. I didn't find too much I had to have right now, but I did pick up a Walther's Cornerstone operating crossing gate for only $10; it usually retails about $30.
Today will be a relaxing day inside. Today and the next few will all be over 100. However, that grass is only getting higher.
Sun and low 80s today. One more day and July is gone .
No breaking news this morning, enjoy the day.......S.J.
