Cloudy and 30-ish today.  Temperature dropped during the afternoon and now it is trying to decide if it is going to rain or snow.  Hope it snows - the frozen rain is a pain.

Found out more about the big meeting up at corporate.  Rumors, really - but the same one from several sources.  Seems that a department is going to be moved from corporate into the plant here.  Probably not the best news for the people at corporate, but minimal impact here.

Dinner with the V.P tonight turned out to be just that - a nice dinner.

My youngest son is on the road tonight on his way here.  Hope he does not run into too much weather.

All for now.

Evening all

Bride is working in Peds tonight so me and the kiddos played a lot.  They had a blast with the box the new stove came in.   After getting them to bed, I cleaned up the cars I got Tuesday, replaced the cord on the #14 rectaformer (a DC Transformer) and took some pictures for Sunday.  Here is a preview of the 332.

Special prayers for Buckeye for his procedure to be sucessful

May God bless

Jim

Going to get the place cleaned up then going to bed.

Prayers for SJ, Roy, Chief, Buckeye, JimSP and all of us here on the pot and our loved ones and friends.  Ray, did he spend his last dollar too?  That's a good way to look at it alright.

Well, my county is the #1 Meth manufacturing county in the country - again Sad  They are talking about a bill to require prescriptions for pseudoephedrine.  Geez.

Charlene is persevering.  She is strong and we know that God is in control of this, just have to weather it a little while longer.

Nice chats today.  Looks like the kids will be sad tomorrow morning as snow is now expected later Friday?  Originally, we were due for an inch in the morning, but it's like 34 degrees now.  Just hope we don't get ice - snow is a lot better than ice!

8nT - I doubt I'll get to that show, but it would be sweet.  I'll try and talk the kids into it though.  We have a birthday party on Saturday for my Dad - he's 70 tomorrow Big Smile

Tardis is ready and I could use some banilla, so better get going!  Mike, you can drive if you like, but I have to stop at Ted Drewes and get some frozen custard for a friend over in Cali, forgot the other day Wink  Wonder if Char would be mad if I let the kids watch Friday on dvd?  Hmmmm - I'll bet she would though....  Oh well, ttfn!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Morning!

Restful sleep, but could of been longer.

Chief, Thanks.  Although having the grandkids living with us for a year now required a lot of changes in our plans I feel blessed to them.

Time to go

May God bless

Good Mornin', Ya'll, from Crystal Clear, Sunny, and Not Snowing Taxachusetts,

I would like to start out by saying I never intend to pay just a cursory "prayers" or "good thoughts" comment on this Forum.  But when the keystrokes are completed, the words on the screen always seem inadequate no matter how hard I try to say something meaningful or encouraging to those in need.  If someone else has a suggestion, I'm all ears (eyes).  Feeling small in this regard.

Buckeye......my sincere prayers for your stepdad, and for your Mom who must be beside herself with sadness, anxiety, and a deep sense of lonliness no matter how supportive family and friends try to be.

Brutus.......Char's spirit is inspiring as is your sucking it up, holding down the fort with the help of your family, and the steadying sense of normalcy you have created for all who surround you.  You may want to buy some expensive train piece for yourself her to heighten her sense of "Holy cr#p, what is going on behind my back?????....."when the cat is away" so to speak.  Hang in there.  Your calm good news continues to be chicken soup for all.  Continued prayers.

Chief.....was glad for the positive news on your Mom.  She's a trooper and an irreplaceable cog.  Prayers continue.

JimSP......from the smiles contained in the picture you posted,  it looks like things continue to fall into place one important piece at a time.  Those big boxes sure come in handy.  The recycling boys can wait.  Continued prayers as well.  Brutus needs to look closely at that engine/tender pic you posted and follow your fine example of how to sneak in a piece here and there.

Roy....hope your sis is progressing.  I may have missed an update, my apologies.  Prayers and positive thoughts continue for her.

MikeC......great news on your friend's daughter.  I think we older young guys can recall an instance or 10 from our youth that could have easily put us in her shoes, or far worse.  Sounds like she is coming out the other side quite well .

Chuck......from the tone of your posts it sounds like PT is coming along better than you expected.  Wonder what your secret formula is.  Smile,Wink, & Grin  I checked my inventory and have found you and Laz don't need to send any more snow my way.

navyjack......glad to hear your PT is progressing nicely.  Hope this momentum carries you closer to the prospect of a small but manageable layout.

Prayers for anyone I missed.

Jack.

Does anyone else get the feeling maybe they're still  smarter than alot of adults ... LOL  . Snow storm is moving in slower than they predicted ... hope it moves out faster than it's coming in .

Fabulous time on the tardis/chat last night .... SJ cracking me up yet again with his jokes ! When I need a good laugh ... he fulfills the need ... brightens up the day ! No matter what happens that day I can go to bed with a chuckle and smile on my face .

Aloha all from a grey but snow-less Chicago. Roger, Sir J and Roy, thank you so much for your help in figuring out the 96 coal elevator. The crank works well but I was confused by the instructions next to the terminal screws to "Connect to Your Transformer" - I'll try a button in between one of them. Maybe even can look for a 96 controller in the photo Roy shared. Let me echo Jack - prayer requests are never received lightly here too. Gearing up for the bride leaving tomorrow - hope she makes it out. Maybe I'll grow a beard next week ;)

Good Morning

Overcast and low 30s today. The big snow is suppose to stay south of here for the most part. A few snow showers is the latest guess.

Phish, kids in a box can't beat it. Always a favorite toy. Great looking 332 as well. Lots of good chit-chat last nite, we have given up on world affairs and just have a great evening of chatter. Doug give my apologies, granny won't drive me to the airport.

Have a great weekend...S.J.

Trying to catch up with this level of Pot activity is absolutely futile.

TGIF!!!!!!!

Buckeye......if you see evidence of grits on the floor, chisels, hammers, or a cordless drill with a set of very large bits, take my advice and escape from the health care facility as fast as you can.  Or you will wake up looking like Jimmy Durante or Karl Malden with "after" pictures of you on SPF.

Chief.....despite your considerable influence and leadership skills, the East Coast storms are going to head out to sea just miles short of reaching this Yankee.  Better luck next time.

Laz......I was going to suggest you stock up on OleMils in the event you get snowed in.  Then I snapped out of it.  You would probably be all set even if you got snowed in until St. Patrick's day.

RaySP.....those anal retentive plumbers sure can be expensive!  However, this is one bill you are glad to get when the news is "You are all set for the next X years."  Re the eye surgery, I personally don't know of one single person in my realm of acquaintance that came out of cataract surgery without observing that their eyesight hadn't been this good in 4 or 5 decades.  My father in law just had one eye done and his only complaint is he needs new glasses, this time for reading only.  This is one of those miracles of modern medicine.  Good luck!

Don.....hope the photo sofware classes are bearing fruit.  We are still waiting for photoshopped pics of your neighbor.

SJ......how about a picture or two of your F3s.  You have some nice stuff.

Bob......was thinking of your comments about engineers playing tricks on engineers.  If you need some fresh material, start feeding the resident skunk in one of your counterpart's cars.

OleTimer.....do you have a valid license to carry (trains) in MD?.  After viewing the pics of Fife's choice operating pieces it dawned on me he may have taken some of them in to hold as "police evidence".

DougM......congratulations on that sweet coal operating piece and thank you for the pictures.  It looks even sweeter after a bath and now sitting on your layout.  If your a little foggy on how to be a bachelor while the wifey is away, your friends here are ready to provide you with suggestions.  The first one is to accelerate the delivery of clandestine train purcheses in her absence.

Laz......I can't tell you how much a snowblower for me was a life altering tool purchase, birthday gift from my wife.  Instead of fussing and fretting at the onset of every storm of significance, or getting up every few hours in the middle of the night to stay out in front of fast- accumulating drifts, I can relax and enjoy the beauty and simplicity of snow, just like when I was a kid, knowing full well that with the turn of a key I can move mountains and have fun doing so.  Perpetually needy and perennially ill-equipped neighbors can be a downside.  They will go out and pay tons of dough for lawn irrigation systems, fertilizer services, and landscapers.  Then be the first ones standing out in a blizzard with nothing but a snow shovel,  ill-equipped to handle a New England fact of life.....and won't hire a snow plow service either!

Rich.....thought of you and your HD battery issue yesterday when admiring a friend's bike, stored away in the cozy comfort of a garage for the winter.  Yup, a Harley.

8N.....I always was suspicious of those corporate "all hands on deck" meetings.  The best case was no layoffs but usually meant some restructuring and piling more useless "feel good" projects on the plate.  Good luck on that one.  Enjoy the visit with your son but make sure he leaves.  Mine would be inclined to move back in......again.

JimSP.....re your pic of the kids and those innocent smile.  If ever there was a picture that spoke a thousand words.  Smiles and memories of Grampy and Grammy that will stand the test of time.  That from a simple cardboard box.  Stellar score on that 332!  You deserve it.

Brutus.....so your county ranks #1.  But in this case in a bad way.  Sorry to hear it.

Wife has now set her laser sights on a low mileage, certified pre-owned SRX at a new car dealership.  Not the best choice in my book with the plethora of more reliable iron out there.  Banged Head  I get her hand me downs.

Did you ever wonder why it is  parents are the ones that sell 85% of the Girl Scout cookies?  .....got my nine boxes carefully hidden stored in the freezer of the beer fridge.  Plus one in the tummy.

Today's Advice:  When wife complains about the expense of one's train hobby, it is prudent to level the playing field by pulling out all of the veterinarian bills, pet food bills, pet equipment bills, and dog training bills for the past year to put things in perspective for her.  Then duck.  Better yet, run.

Today's Observation:  This Sunday's Super Bowl interest here seems low or non-existent.

Later, gang.

Jack

Evening all!

Back after a long road trip and then a rough week this week so far catching up. And I find out I have to make a run up to Toronto at the end of next week.

Doug M - I think the crank is for making the buckets haul the coal and the terminals are just for the solenoid to open up the coal bin? Nothing to lose by hooking it up but I would just touch one of the wires until you see what happens. If the terminals are just for the solenoid then you will need a pushbutton for it. If it is what I think it is you have a #96 pre-war manual coal loader.

It appears to match this one shown on the Stout auction site.

Looks like we will use up all our firewood this year for the first time I can remember.

Buckeye - prayers for your family.

Have a great evening all!

Jim,

That is a beautiful 332.  Does it have the jewels on the boilerfront and pilot?  My 332 is missing those, and I need to order them the next time I order parts.  How do the DC locos compare to their AC counterparts in terms of operation?

No class this morning so I'll work on my group's project from home.  I need to finish the status report and start the presentation.  I spent yesterday turning my laptop into a Sony Playstation with a program that I found.  I can put the original game into the cd crive and play it just like I could on the Playstation.  It is nice to be able to enjoy the games without wearing out the original hardware.

OLE TIMER, yep according to all the weathermen WE ARE GONNA GET IT BIG TIME!!!   I'm ready JUST BRING IT!!!!!

JACK, running out of the OL MILLs happened one time during a snow storm back in 93.  I lived about half a mile to beer store and trudged down there for a case of Ol MILLs and to my suprise he was open.  No one else  on the streets and in the midst of a blizzard I got a ice cold case. Big Smile

JACK as far as the snowblower, yepper all my neighbors are ill equiped on both snow and grass cutting equipment.  So when I retire in 2 years one of the jobs is tt make a contract with them for yard maintenance. It will help my train funds.

Good morning all, had a successful get together with my Thursday night friends last night.  The new engine was opened and it turned out to be a 3rd Rail model of a Grand Trunk 4-8-4 with whitewall tires and striping.  Very nice engine!  Also unveiled was an MTH Santa Fe RS1 diesel engines which we put through its paces and it worked very well.

Light rain started this morning.  Showers predicted for this afternoon.

Jack, I know about the improvement in your eyesight after cataract surgery.  I have already had the left eye done and I could see the improvement right away.  Thanks for the well wishes.

Still mystifed by my MTH GP20 proto 2 engine sound problem.  Thought squealing noise was caused by smoke unit drive shaft but its not that.  Noise will appear stopped or runnning and with smoke on or off.  It must be in the sound system somehow.  Maybe the sound of squealing brakes won't shut off.  It does shut off eventually but it is annoying.

Od'd on pizza yesterday from Costco.  Got to get back on the straight and narrow today.

Navy Jack, hope you are making some headway on getting a layout.

Have a safe day all,

Ray

Good Afternoon

We are awaiting the snow. I am going to swing by Lowes and pick up parts for the washer install this weekend. At least cut down on the trips after parts since the weather is to be bad.

Jack- The kids smiles make it all worthwhile. They are special.

Jim – The 332 is missing the jewels and like you I’ll be ordering them soon. As far as the DC compared to AC operation, I have ran my other locos on DC, the ones with the universal motors, and there does not seem to be a difference. A big advantage is no e unit to mess with. Very simple. Juice goes right from the rail to the wire to the jack panel. When I do run things like the cabooses with the operating brakeman, they do not pick up the 60 cycle buzz. Check back later

May God bless Jim

Good afternoon,

Gonna get colder for the big game on sunday down in northwest Miami FL. I am not that interested as no team that I care about made to the playoffs, maybe that is why so little interest in this years big game.

Wife's car broke down yesterda at work, battery terminal was bad, so the battery acted like it was dead. Put on new terminal and charged the battery and it works great so far, no calls about the car.

Got quote from electrician to take down big sodium light on side of the house, over the phone it was $75.00, in person after looking at what it took the price is $150.00 or better. Claims it takes two men to take it down. Guess I need to rent a lift bucket trailer and do the work myself.

Looks like I need to call Marcia Green, this is a woman who jokes about men being slow, her favorite joke is"Why do they have men working signs? Because women don't take as long to work!" Another joke she likes to tell is "What do you call a woman who does the work of three men? Lazy; as she should have done the work of five men."  If I keep mentioning stuff from Marcia I my have to watch out for flying trains coming at me. Gotta liven it a little at times, right?

Going over to pest "the Bach Mann!!"

Chief, No problem on the surgery.  If you need it, I have a great text book that we can ask a nurse to hold open for you.
Jim, Nice looking locomotive, and great looking grand kids.  I value the moments I get to share with our kids.  I attend all activities with them that I can.  I know you cherish yours too.  Children are a blessing from the Lord and should be thought of as such.
Jack,  Often, words do fall short of our heartfelt feelings.  A few thoughts on this.  First, sometimes, the best thing to do is sit next to the person and cry with them.  When distance is an issue, just let them know that you are praying for them...no distance is out of God's reach.  I find that we can never fully understand what someone is going through.  Each person deals with things differently and even having been through similar circumstances, the best thing is to pray for God to meet them at their need....He knows the whole story and is best equipped to help.  The prayers of a righteous man availeth much.

Well, I found out why they asked me to come in when I was supposed to be off today to do this case.  The patient had coded last night and had multiple issues.  Was a long case and required the draw of a lot of experience to do.  That said, I wish the new guy had stayed along with me on the case to learn a bit from this one.  Patient did well and should have a good recovery...if he can get over some of his other issues.

When I had gone in this morning, the temps had gotten into the mid 60s and the wind was blowing hard.  That was about 0430.  While on bypass, I could see out the windows and it looked like a monsoon.  I think this is the same storm that is supposed to bring plenty of snow to the NE.  Hope you all get through it without too much trouble.

Wife is working at the hospital tomorrow, so I will be home with the kids.  Plan on bringing them to a gun show in town so I can get some ammo.  I also want to get a blank firing device for an Uzi to use in the making of the next film.  Need to start getting all the items gathered for the start of the shoot.

Hope everyone has a blessed weekend.
Dennis

Just got in from Columbus OH  [actually Town retreat]   to cold pouring down rain.  Sure glad it is not snohio or we would have feet.  Some places have already had 2 inches of rain.  Flood warning already issured for some creeks and rivers.  OH surgery was a success.  Buckeye now has his nose where [oh well you know what is ShockWhistling ].  Kind of an "up side down" thing. Laugh

Chat later.
