Oh Joy! Rapture! I won my first thing  ever on an eBay auction - I've bought a few things but never figured out the bidding thing. And it is something I have wanted for more than a decade - a #96 pre-war Lionel coal elevator. Thanks go to Brutus for making me aware of it. And for a good price I think  Clear night here...

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the teens.  Did the YMCA bit with several double digit touches.  Wife and I went to see our favorite bluegrass group tonight, Olivia Smiley and Main Street, down at Westport.  She has toured with Pam Tillis.  Work on standard gauge switch again.  Making progress.  Last "Dollhouse" was pretty worthless.  "Numb3rs" was odd one.  Had the regular fare on the dining car.  TBIL anytime.  No Snohio, just beautiful Indiana weather.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good night.  Some more fine dusting of icey snow.  Mom is in the hospital.  She was going into congestive heart failure per the care keeper.  Hospital has all under control.  Keeping her for a few days.  93 1/2 and declining fast.

Mike C, the Dollhouse is a big strip joint around here. Whistling

Evening All !

Chief, Hope everything works out fine with our Mom! Nothing fun about the hospital, and the support and stress running back and forth!  Especially in bad weather !  God Bless !

Hope everyone is doing well with the weather, we are suppose to get more rain beginning on Tuesday, may last thru the weekend.  But don't know for sure with all the variations in forecasts.  So, Bob be prepared, and means more bad weather in about a week for the rest of you.

Had a good day here, worked 1/2 day, came home mowed lawn, helped take down the Christmas tree, then some time in the train room.

Looking forward to tomorrow, will either modify some switch wiring, or start reworking a lift bridge.  (Not the accessory, but that prevents a duck under.

Interesting situation with Chris, he is taking College Alegebra, Biology, and Chemistry this semester, (with Labs), any way the Biology teacher told him the benefits of Fish Oil.  So we now have this HUGE bottle of Fish Oil gel tablets.  He has taken them for 3 days, and he says he doesn't notice any improvement in his yet.  Homework is taking just as long.  Have to say I'm impressed with the instructors and school.  The math department requires each student to spend a minimum of 1 hour a week in a Math Lab.  Of course math majors are on hand to assist with problems, etc..  The only awkward thing is he is having to attend 2 different campuses, both are nearby.  Apparently the schools have complimentary arrangements that if a class isn't being offered at one school, students may take it at the other.  Pretty decent!

Take Care !!

Tardis is running late, but ready to go now.  Went to eat with some friends and kids had us walk all over the mall looking for videogames and junk.  Talked to my wife a couple times today.  Her numbers dropped and she is neutropenic - not enough immunity left to have visitors.  At this point, they say it could be a week or even several weeks for the new stuff to kick in.  Of course, we hope for a fast turn around.  She's having some problems now that will last until that happens and maybe for a few weeks after.  She's lucky they moved her to a bigger room, because now she is not allowed to leave her room.

Chief - big prayers for your Mom, too!

Doug - Way to go!  Glad you finally got it man, glad I could help a little bit Smile

Laz - congrats on the porch, that's a huge job.

Okay, let's hit it!

Been an interesting few nights testing this new receiver. We are working at very high frequency (near 700 GHz) so the atmosphere attenuates a lot of the signal even up here. We were finally able to see something w/ it today, so that was pretty exciting. I managed to play around w/ the tuning of it to improve the performance as well. I just had to close due to frost though. It's been a battle but we are getting there.

Ray - sorry to here about your friend. Hope he can hang in there. Sounds like a great guy.

Chief - prayers for your mom. It's never easy being in the hospital at any age.

Brutus - glad to hear your wife is still progressing as planned.

Doug - congrats! Ebay can be very entertaining. I have a couple of tricks to keep snipers off the good deals. But the best rule is to wait for another one if the price goes more than you want to pay.

Been reading Richard Finch's "How to Keep Your Corvair Alive". Great information and very entertaining. Reminds me of the "How to Keep Your VW Alive" by John Muir. He has an opinion and is not afraid to state it. Been thumbing thru the shop manual, Clark's Corvair catalog, and the assembly manual. Now that is pretty cool. Every part on the van and how they put it together in the factory. Incidently Brutus, the assembly plant for Corvair vans was in St. Louis.

Engineers come up Monday again. We are having a little fun w/ our highest paid and most AR engineer. He will drop everything to replace the battery in the clock at the front entrance and even put a note in the log he did so. Well anyway, I replaced the battery in another clock and put the dead one in the one in the entryWhistling

Good Morning all

Well my bride came home from shopping for a new washer and dryer.   As it turns out I will need to put in a gas line and move the supply and drain for the washer because the type she wants will not fit where the old washer was.  It is deeper than the old washer and the door will not fully open.  Oh well, it could be worse.

Jim – Don’t post the pics of the 332, right now I really wanting but not wanting as much as they think it is worth.

DougM – Congrats on the buy.  It is fun to find stuff you want and get it at a good price.

Buckeye – Daughter in Cincy said same thing.  We did not get any more over the night so that is good .  Shoveling the walks at 7 am is a bummer before Mass

Jim F – I will be thinking of your bride and her sister during intentions at all the services today.

Bob – How do you beat the snipers?

May God bless

Jim

Aloha. A little warmer today at 14. But clear and sunny. So excited for my #96. Can't figure a way to pull its photo. The seller was pleasantly surprised that I paid right away, I thought that was what you did. Was looking for the Tardis too. Busy day today supporting the bride's many activities...

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Woke up to 9 degrees and half a foot of SNOHIZO in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Our road crew did good by us, as our particular hill is clear.  Got to finish my coffee and get shoveling in a while.  Wifey had cabin fever, and drove us all crazy yesterday.  Grocery store and new curtain rods in my immediate future.

Chief & Brutus- Continued Angel.  Hey, what is Dave F up to these days?  I always enjoyed his posts; well thought out.

Smile hello guys, hope that the bad weather has not touched you.

submmbob...last year i bought a #51lionel 0-8-0, as in my last duty station, we lived right across the mountain from you guessed it....  we used to sit in our driveway eating peanuts and watching the weird sky show every night.  we were usually entertained.  also there was several naval research stations around us in the desert? they let my wife go on the grayback once and let her look through the periscope.  also made our way out through the bridge, and had to climb  the long thin ladder.  wife had cork high heals.  she never wanted to go aboard a submarine again.  ha. haAlien

Good morning

Cloudy and 15, going into the 20s. No wind or snow though.

Doug M. congrats on your win, just shows if you wait awhile another whatever will come along. I don't use the bay very often as most of what I want drifts through wild bills sooner or later. I shall meander now....S.J.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 8 degrees.  No snow on the ground. Going up to 30 today with sunshine. The blue skies and sunshine are great to see. A little warmer temperature would nelp.

Today is an easy day. Not much going on. I have some exercises to do and will probably run trains later. Not much else is new.

Chief....Prayers out for your Mom.

Dining car was here for the usual breakfast. Need an omlet this week.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Morning from snow covered NC.  Frozen but sun is out and radiant heating is melting some.  Called hospital and Mom does not know what is up.  Talked to nurse and she said congestive heart failure but treated and all is going good now.  No heart attack.  93 1/2????  Well, all is well at hospital.  Will be tomorrow afternoon before I can get there due to freezing of melting streets.  Yvonne [caregiver] is there with her during the day.  Can take her home if it is before I can get there.

Fifey, know what you mean.  If the mall would open or she would go to work. Sigh

Chief, prayers for your mom.  Will remember her also at mass this morning in prayers of the faithful.

Ran some trains yesterday in the garage and had a good time listening to my $3 garage sale CD player with some turn of the century Ragtime ochestra music.  Reminds you of old time music in the park gazebo kind of thing where the men wore those skimmer straw hats and the ladies wore big white dresses and fancy hats.  Hung a few more pictures around the train room.

Incidentally, my MTH Santa Fe GP20 proto 2 engine was making this funny noise like a loud squeaking both standing and running.  It is not an axle.  I think it must be something in the sound system.  Anyway it went away after a while.  Anybody ever had this happen?  I don't have any idea what caused it.

Weather forcast for next week is showers on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Have to go in for colonoscopy on Tuesday..  Hope I can park close to the door if it's raining.  Wife will pick me up afterward.

Have a good day all,

Ray

Back from unexpectedly celebrating a friend of my bride's birthday - unexpectedly in the picking-up-of-the-tab. LOL. Got her (the bride, not the friend) a Garmin 255WT GPS. Hope she doesn't drop / lose it. Hope to run trains in a little bit. Then do the Financial Aid form for the daughter - I swear it is worse than taxes.

Got to check in one last time before the new pot starts.

Chief, Prayers for your Mom.  BTW it's been a while since you had worse weather than us here in PA.  Sounds like you guys got a pretty good dose.  Most be all the global warming going around. Laugh  Even though we didn't get the snow and ice we did get the cold, was 11 degrees this morning.

Posted pics on SPF showing the return of my LNE car and fife's Chessie car.  That ends it for here.  Did give me an excuse to run some trains.

All have good week.

Doug,  My biggest gripe on these things is the cost of updating the maps, almost cheaper to buy a new one every couple of years than it is to update the maps.

On caution on the Garmin - if you leave it plugged into the cigarette lighter overnight it will run the car battery down.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps near 30 and Snohio almost all gone.  Went to Mass and said prayers for everybody that needs them on the 'pot and elsewhere.  Wife and I both went to YMCA.  I had multiple double digit touches today.  It is almost getting to the point where endurance and not skill is the limiting factor on the touches.  Sherlock Holmes was right.  "Once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the solution".  Finally got 10E to go thru switch I was working on.  Last part of the puzzle was not the switch, but the engine itself.  A couple of strategically placed pieces of electrical and the 10E runs like a top.  I had cinnamon rolls on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL anytime tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
