Good night all. Wifey got in about an hour ago from shopping spree with her sisters. Bought lots chocolate coverd peanuts, peanut brittle and coated coconut candies. Thing I do not need. I cooked dinner for self. Spiral cut ham [already in frig], turnips from garden and some pre-cooked collards Miss Edna gave me. Took her turnips and stuff sausage. Spitting cold rain now. Windy Was icey wet stuff earlier. Had pretty snohio this afternoon but did not stick. Per neighbor at the lake house, by 6 PM ground was covered. Buddy in mountains sent email and had 7 inches of snohio at 6 PM. Think Brent and Fifey are in for a good one. Watched The Nativity Story on TV. They do a good job on that one.
Good night all.

Chuck has been on my mind today.
This Sunday evening is the 18th Annual Neighborhood Children's Party at our house. Of course some of the children are not 30 years old and the bring their own kids to the party. Years ago, we thought 40 people was a crowd. Now it is more like 80 people will show up and drink my refrigerator dry. We will run the trains for about three hours non-stop. The Williams FM Trainmaster will be pulling the big loads on the layout. Amtrak will be running, too. A steamer will be in a siding ready to be switched out. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by.
Talked to the Chief today. He was complaining about the effects of global warming in Roseyville. Mrs. Chief is going to drag him off shopping tomorrow and he decided to solicite my sage advice on how to weasel out of the trip to the Roseyville Mall.
Our buddy Doug is making a long journey back east for the funeral for his father tonight. Our deepest condolances are extended to his family and we wish him and his wife godspeed as they make the trip.

Hopefully a quiet night here at the 'scope. I could skip another night like last night. Too much fun. The good news is today is the first I got to wear both of my boots and take a shower w/o a bag on my foot. Seems to be doing fairly well, but I'm going to have to learn how to walk again.
Glad to hear Chuck is doing better. Sounds like this is going to be a bit of an adjustment for him.
Dennis - you had a busy day! I'm not sure which telescope array you saw the special about, but it sounds like radio astronomy to me. I can barely slide one of our bearings across the floor. Ours had an interesting design process. Since they support 650 tons on four wheels they are somewhat important:)
Doug - safe travels and prayers for you and the family.
Hop everyone has a good weekend.

Good evening everyone. Has been quite a day of it and it isn't over yet. Got called in early to do a minor procedure. Then, we did three hearts in quick succession and a few other cases. While in one case, I get called for an emergency on another...had to finish quick and run over to the other end of the OR for that case. Finally get to leave and run to grocery store to pick up dinner fixins. and some items for our guests this weekend. Still have three patients I may have to go back in for. tonight.
Still keeping Chuck and Paula in my prayers. I know they are in scary territory right now. While I work with these patients all the time, it is different when it happens to ones you know personally, or to yourself.
Doug, keeping you and Kelly in my prayers too. May God Bless you with travelling mercies and bring peace and comfort to you and your family.
On the train related front, I took delivery of a Atlas EMD SW9 in Jersey Central livery. This is a "New Old stock" engine that I got off auction. It has "Big O Sound and Operating System designed by Dallee. Says it is fully compatible with Lionel Trainmaster, but I think I will have TMCC installed at a later time. Nice looking engine. I got it for $149.
Bob, my son and I watched a program on the Science Channel on the maintenance and repair of a telescope. The bearings are huge! I don't recall which one it was, but it was part of a series of 3 around the world and they are all connected.
May not get the chance to check in over the weekend. I do hope that each of you have a great one though.
God Bless,Dennis

Doug,my prayers for support and safe travel.
Aloha from a grey and snowy Crystal Lake. The daughter is home from college. A buddy generously drove me to Union Station to pick her up. Just wrapping up some loose ends like who can take us to the airport tomorrow - LOL. Wake Sunday and service Monday and hopefully back Mon. night. Just about wrapped up the eulogy - harder to write than I thought. Going to bring the new CTT to read on the plane. The tickets won't print out right - it says douglasjmr for my first name. LOL. I'm sure I'll have a problem with the TSA about it. The J is my middle initial. Ah well. Prayers for Chuck's recovery and so Mike C has a better day.

TGIF!!!!
Was windy and RAIN this day, now very wet and the sun is peeking through the clouds.
It is 77F now and obviously very humid.
Princess and I did more work on the Christmas tree and layout. It looks fabulous!
Took more pictures and will be sending the Chief the last 2 CPI cars for Christmas.
Really working here in Paradise, new boss is hands on, so that usually means trouble. Still in the running for the NJ job. I might try to pack up the layout next month, depending. A move is imminent, just not sure when and whether it’s going to be here or YankeeLand. The house we’re in is way too big and it really isn’t sustainable. Of course, I’ve been saying this since my FIL passed in 2002.
Chuck, you really need to quit. I’m a relative newbie here, and I look forward to your posts. I lost my grandfather to emphysema some years ago and it was horrible. For your sake and the sake of your family, please quit. You can do it, we’re all praying for you.
for everyone and their families!!
Check ya later!

Chuck listen Friend I gave up cigarettes 6 years ago with the help of my doc. I was smoking 3 packs a day and haven't had one since. He prescribed me Welbuton SR( spelling may not be correct there) its an antidepressant it helped me quit. You can do it with help and support of others. I'm not saying what worked for me will for you but you and your doc can come up with a plan if you want to keep running trains for your grand kids. Now shake a leg and get better. we miss you in here and want you back in here.
Afternoon all still raining and about 35-37 out side
ChiefEaglesOnce stabilized at hospital, asked DR. for a cigarette
Chuck, now's the time to dump those butts. You can do it. I quit two years ago and I thought I could never quit. Prayers for you and get well soon.

Good Afternoon
Overcast but above freezing.
Out shopping all morning, told granny I was done. Kenny Rogers is in town and my daughter won front row seats and a meeting with him. She is taking grannys CD for an autograph. She should, grannys gonna baby sit. Till tonite, ....S.J.
I got the talking station finished at 2AM, but I didn't want to take the chance of testing it then. I tested it and set the timing this morning. It runs faster and sounds better now. The warbled sound is gone and the record sounds strong the whole way through. I am debating on opening the motor to clean the laminations and rotor. If only I didn't jump the gun and buy another partial 755 yesterday...
SNOW ALERT!
Thanks for the warning Chief. Reports are Snohio will arrive here in a few hours, up to eleven inches. Wife went to the grocery store at 7:30 this AM and was mobbed. Time to hibernate for a few days, after putting the blade on the big tractor this PM.
Chuck - NO cigarettes. This is a good time to quit!

Home again. Reb Army [Chief, Burg and Lucy] retreated South as Yankee Snohio is headed into VA. Pat, sorry to leave you stranded up there in VA. Might get some snohio here. Quite a bit forecasted for west of Roseyville. Weatherperson on TV 5 says mainly rain [she usually is WRONG]. Off to the pond to see about beaver activity and feed deer and birds. Prayers for Chuck who is being stubborn over treatment recommendations. Once stabilized at hospital, asked DR. for a cigarette. Chat later.
kpolak laz 57 I might have to do it like JIM DUDA does? Say It isn't so. Hey, shouldn't you be out running? Still no snow here...There, that should bring it. Kurt

Good morning all,
It is cloudy in SE Indiana. Yesterday was total disaster. Forget it and move on. Glad to hear some good news from some areas of the 'pot. TBIL and keep those Old Mils coming (definitely not driving tonight). No more breakfast reports until "Points East" is able to accept deliveries. "Dollhouse" on tonight. Train loads of prayers going out in all directions. I hope (I really do hope) everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
TGIF
RAY and DENNIS,
Gotta pack up my gun,

Good news on Chuck and prayers for recovery. Doug, have a safe trip. Prayers for healing and a great Christmas to all.
Too funny on those presents and ham stories guys - we're putting our tree up on a table that will hold the gifts as well, so Chewy can't chew on them!
Well, my Casper car and my Halloween Gateman finally arrived - I'll have to get those downstairs and see what they look like. Layout has been covered to keep concrete dust off for about a month - not good! Need to run some trains!
Daughter had another concert tonight and sounded great
TARDIS is ready, so let's hit it guys - beacons are on all over the place. Some not as bright as we would like, so we'll be sure to bring some extra banilla to share. RT made fudge, too
Good evening all, Sounds like better news from Chief re Chuck. Get well soon Chuck!
Went to dentist this AM for cleaning. Not much other activity today though. Have not felt up to par today. I have a little discomfort in the chest area. I would not call it pain. Just saw my doctor a couple of weeks ago and everything looked OK to him then. All I can think of is that I may have strained my hiatal hernia or something by lifiting too many heavy things this week. I have been helping my wife fill food orders for the needy from our church pantry. I have a tendency to put too many can goods in each bag and the wight adds up fast. I went for my walk this morning and had no issues with shortness of breath or anything like that. If this condition persist, I will run it by the doc. I hope it is nothing. Too many people I know are passing on lately. We heard about two this week alone.
Laz, better get over to Dennis' place with your deer rifle. That's where they went.
No Thursday night meeting at my place this week to run trains account everybody is busy this time of year. Our little group has dwindled down to about four of us from a high of 20 or so at one time. Time is not our friend anymore.
One more Christmas gathering at our TCA Western Division this Saturday. Picked up a cake today for the desert table.
Wife and I went out for a bite to eat tonight and gave ourselves the night off from the kitchen. It was a good move.
Happy Holidays all and best wishes for a Merry Christmas to come,
I was going to work on the Christmas layout today since I had to go to work tonight, so I decided to fix the slipping cam in the 755. I figured it would be a quick and simple task. Wrong. Once i had the camshaft out, I saw that the slipping was due to the cardbord tube that insulates the brass cam from the metal shaft. The tube is meant to be an interference fit inside the cam, but it let go. No big deal, I'll just put some super glue on the tube and slide the cam back into place. The glue softened and destroyed the tube. I should have applied the glue to the inside of the cam. So, I pulled just the cam and tube from the motor that I bought recently. This is a later bronze cam which has the set screw to lock it in place. I got all of the cams polished, and I'll start reassembly tonight.
Good evening
A busy day, shopping this morning and then my friend called from the train store telling me about a Marx prewar set. Groan I bought it sight unseen for $50. turned out to be a great deal everything in really good condition and a hard to get Canadian Pacific tender. Well you can get them if your willing to pay enough. back to the mall in the morning, the only thing I did not try on doesn't fit. suprise. Banilla waiting so bring on the Tardis...S.J.
