Good morning all, thought I better check in.  Went to Christmas party last night for wife's St. Vincent De Paul group and OD'ed on goodies.  I think I have already put on about 5 lbs this month.  It's so easy to put it on and so hard to take it off and I haven't even got to the eggnog ice cream yet.  Tough story about the hot grits in the face.  That's not even funny but the guy was no mental giant either telling the woman that he was dumping her then going to sleep.  Lucky he didn't wake up with a knife in the back.  I personally know about a murder suicide that took place after that same kind of thing.  Very tragic.

On a brighter note, been running the trains in spite of the intermittent rain.  Little wet this morning but no big rain yet.  One more Christmas get together at TCA tomorrow.  Hope you gyz in snohio country stay warm and safe.

Later, Ray

Fife & Brent - Nothing new.  Still trying although the only responses I get are the "sorry, not interested" type.  Today makes 21 months.

I have been reading "The Pot" but I did not renew my subscription to CTT so I was reluctant to post.  The friendly banter about grits here is amusing but I was shocked when I read the report of the grits assault and decided to post the link.

When not doing the job search thing, I keep myself busy doing some woodworking projects and reading a woodworking forum.  Just simple things like cutting boards and candle holders.  Been looking for a used lathe but most of them in my price range are not worth going after.  We talk about how expensive O gauge trains are, WW is just as bad.  One thing about WW though, there are lots and lots of deals available this time of year.  Way, way too many really.

I made the cutting board (picture below) using plans from an old Wood magazine I got after dad passed away.  It is Maple with Black Walnut accents.  Plans said to use a dowell rod for the "dots" but I live real (actually too) close to Hartville Tool and they are closing out one inch plug cutters so I got one and cut the circles so they wouldn't be end grain.

Working on a few other items for Christmas presents.  Hope they turn out okay, as not everything ends up looking the way I hoped.  I can hardly believe that Christmas is only two weeks away, better get busy.

Brent,

I replied to your email.  I think you'll like it...

I have to finish one of the online classes today, so hopefully the tests won't be too difficult.  Igot a repro talking station record in the mail yesterday, and it looks different than General Mills era repro. I have played it yet though.

Got it! WinkThumbs Up

GregM - that sucks about the job... have you thought about doing the wood working thing and selling your wares at shows? That cutting board is INSANE! Simply awesome job!

Great work Greg !

I did much the same when I was downsized. Did quite well for awhile building a bunch of "learning center desks" for a Montessori school, but when it came to residential cabinetry just couldn't compete. No facilities for the high-end jobs and the low-end were sold by big-box joints for less than I could buy materials. If you can get the materials at a low enuff cost you can make a few bucks with the craft stuff & kitchen accessories, especially this time of year.

No museum today, to many cooks in the kitchen so to speak. When you get more than four people in there it can get a bit close. Although I will be there on sunday, train show in town this weekend so it makes it a bit hard to get folks to sign-up to run. I'll check out the show on saturday, "Great Train Expo", hope it is better than previous years.

Anybody know anything about the K-Line Rock Island E8's ? Was looking at an AA set but the description doesn't offer very much info and wasn't able to find them on the K-Line "legacy" site.

Greg,

That cutting board looks great.  You should try selling those.

Brent,

Do you have any experience with wireless network adapters? The one in my laptop has a full strength signal when wirelessly connected to the home network, but pages never finish loading. When I have it connected directly to the router with a cat 5 cable, it is fine. I checked the adapter, and it is seated properly. Any ideas?

Good Evening guys!  Glad to see all the supportive posts.  Greg, hang in there.  The wood work that you are doing looks very nice.  Will lift you in prayer that God directs you to the job He has planned for you.

Had a relatively good day today.  I am fighting this crud and hope to get over it soon.  Light day at work which was good as I was able to attend the funeral of the wife of one of our friends.  Absolutely wonderful family.  The guy is a minister with our church and is always at the hospital to pray for folks.  That is how we met...he and a few others came to pray over our son when he would stop breathing for no apparent reason.  Anyway, real sad to see such wonderful people grieving.

Regarding the grits caper, we had a similar incident here.  A jilted wife doused a husband's tender area with boiling grits.  Was not a good outcome for either.

Well, I took delivery of a Toys R Us boxcar yesterday and today, I got a Lionelville parcel Delivery Truck that supposedly is tough to find as it was limited and then, UPS pressed the issue that it looked too close to their trucks and logo.  It is from Eastwood in 1996.  Anyway, it will find a good spot on the layout. SWMBO didn't like another delivery for the trains, but I think when Christmas comes, she will be OK with itBig Smile

Had an enjoyable exchange of emails with RT and Jon today. Good to have guidance from seasoned friends.Bow

The fireplace is just beautiful tonight and feels like we are in Antigua (I wish) life is good.

It's been a good day here in the Heartlands, my objectives for the day kind of disintergrated but it was still a fine day.  Moved the last of the snow (Uffda) and got the garage organized ....... that was the problem, getting the bike up off the floor and Seafoam in the bike and mower, the fun never ends.  Wonderfully easy dinner of spaghetti and a really nice red wine, did I mention that life is good.

Very nice email exchange with Pat, I personally believe that we could solve most of the world's problems quite easily Smile

Off to northern IA tomorrow to see our grand daughters first Christmas dance recital and then the Christmas program at church on Sunday, can't think of a better two days.

It's been a heck of a week with our weather but thankfully everything has worked out well, no injuries plus we are warm and safe tonight.  We are blessed to be sure.

Sunny and up into the 20's today.  Supposed to go into the 40's this weekend.

Anjdevil - Bought the Aspen for $500 for my youngest son to drive to high school about 8 years ago.  I'm still driving it to work about 1/2 of the time.  Those slant sixes are like the Energizer Bunny - they just keep going ang going and going.  Heck, it is only just broken in as it only has 136,000 miles on it.

Jim - whoever your sources are on the street about MTH, they are good ones.  Stopped by the LHS and found out that there was a couple of MTH packages due there next week.  Since I'm the only person with MTH stuff on order at this time.....Big Smile

My wife will be telling a couple of storeis at the Teddy Bear Tea tomorrow.  It is a mother and daughter formal type tea held at the old MKT depot every year.  Quite a big deal on the local social scene.  The tickets are usually sold out several months in advance.

About all for now.

Nice work Greg!  I'll bet you could sell a few of those for sure!

Prayers for all and for our family and friends.

Hit another milestone in my life - my SON has a DATE tomorrow with his GIRLFRIEND?!?!?!

Tardis is ready and I think we should break out the good stuff tonight, hang out somewhere warm and tropical - how's that sound?  Ready, steady, go!

Good night all.  Greg, great job on cutting board [was I glad to get to that post, all I could read was Greg, great job].  Now lets help you get a job.  Prayers.  BTW: maybe you need to teach our Woodworking Class Teacher [LAZ] a thing or two. Whistling

Dennis, I think you passed me the crud.

I was back out in the COLD today.  High got only in the 30's.  Leaves done on this side of the backyard fence.  Other side, just time for them to dry some and JD'em.  Problem is, rains about every other day.  Pinestraw city here.  Grady and I have pinestrawed the whole place.  Had Chamber Christmas party to attend.  Got back from that and crashed.  Was watching a new Halmark Movie and it was good but just woke up.  Wifey asleep too.   If I get worse, start the Leviquin and see Dr. Monday.

OH, checked the pond spillway this AM.  Beavers had done a tiny job but looked like they got interrupted again.  Water was actually flowing good.  A few pitchforks full tossed over the dam and all was clean.  Strange.  Checked this afternoon late and still clear.  ?????

Dennis, finally got Visions Box Car from Lionel. The one I won in drawing at York last spring.  Nice but nothing special.  Semi-scale, sliding doors, sprung loaded die-cast trucks and metal bottom.  BTW: had to send several emails to Customer Service.  Finally got a reply it was being shipped.  Two days later it came.

Off to bed to see if I can sleep without choking.  Cough Cough.

Sleep tight.

Good morning from a cold, 18 degree sunrise in Buckeyeland.

Mrs. Buckeye has a Saturday meeting.  I've been admonished not to get in trouble today due to the lack of adult oversight.  I think I will visit a train store or two.  I would assume that will keep me out of trouble.

The doctor told me yesterday that I need surgery on my sinuses.  Oh, joy!!! It's schedule for the first Friday of February.

After reading several of the postings above, it is obvious I have really offended the Chief.  He hasn't mentioned me in a derogatory manner in any of his last posts.  Smile,Wink, & Grin  Maybe he has learned his lesson after six years of berating me or maybe he doesn't know about all those emails or secret postings we write about him and pass them around the  country to our devious friends.Laugh Don, I might have missed you on one of the last emails about the Chief's alleged indiscretions about being five minutes late to Sunday School.Whistling

Later today I will put the train around the tree at work.  People really enjoy seeing the G Scale Christmas train that I purchased at Sam's Club for almost nothing.

It was col yesterday here in middle Indiana, about 10ish.... whewww.

Had a real nice Chirstmas party at my section managers house last night.   He kept it simple with a white elephant gift exchange and round of ping pong, it was nice and relaxing.  I'm blessed among other things to be alble to work with a great bunch of people.

Funny thing is were a bunch of engineers making engineer jokes and it seemed the vast majority of our wives were making teacher jokes.   Who would have guessed a bunch of engineers in the same group would all marry teachers?? 7 og the 16 wives were teachers, funny how life works out.

Chief, glad to see the *** is under control.

Have to help the wife make X-mas cookies today,,, yum yum this won't be any good for the waist line!!

Morning.  Cough Cough and "stuffed" up too.  No meeting for lunch with new school board member.  She has tummy virus.  I surely don't need that added to my "junk".  Yes, wifey made me put on a hood/neck thingy.  I looked like the "hood" guys that we chase and put in jail in Roseyville.  You can always recognize them with their hoods up over their heads even in the summer.  Trying to hide in public. shows how smart they are

My heart is broken.  Buckeye has gone the limit.  Saying I have always "run him down" on the forum.  We all know I have always praised him and his wonderful state of Ohhizo.  [BTW: I am on drugs]   Sending emails behind my back. Whistling

Off to the lake house to sell the monster HD TV in the livingroom.  Got a nice flat screen to replace it.  Wifey wants me to stay a day or so and rest.   I guess Buckeye will really lay it on while I am away.  Maybe I will go up to the store and use wireless to keep an eye on him.

Have a great weekend.

PS: SJ, better watch out as you might get a pot of hot grits dumped on you.
