HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everybody!!

No meds. AH, a non believer. Didn't you see Kris talking to his reindeer on new version of Miracle on 34th Street? No, my deer know my special whisle and my voice. They just look up, wag their tails and go back to eating corn. They also know my white pickup. It passes by a feeding "station", drive in the pond area and when I come back, they are there waiting. They walk off into the bushes and watch [I can see them]. I whistle while putting out corn and talk to them in the bushes. I drive about 25 yards up hill and get out of truck. They run back out and eat. I go to the back of the pickup and talk to them. Been feeding them for four years now. Can tell if a new one is there. It acts nerveous. Once in a while, one will come up the hill, snort and stomp its foot at me. Then walk back and continue eating. Have had them come out of the bushes with in 20 feet, snort and snort [never run] and then walk down the hill and eat. One night, I fed late. Had 8 eaing down the hill. Heard something and 8 ran by the other side of my pickup and down to eat. That was the largest group I had eat at one time. I also feed at the "top of the hill" at the pond. I usually do not wait on that group. I have stayed close by and there is about 6 or 7 in that group. Also a buck [by big tracks] but never seen him eating.
Now to go see if beavers tried to stop up the spillway. Give deer extra Thanksgiving feeding too. Later.
PS: Pat, apple block at the main feeding station. They "lick up" 3 or 4 a year.

Bob, don't know where the paper came from. Thought it may be one of those where they deliver to a number of folks who don't subscribe and then use that as a list of "Total Readership" so they can inflate the numbers for advertisers. Know I have heard that about the local rag in the past.
Well, dinner is about ready. I cooked Turkey *** in a "Oil-less" fryer and also cooked a Stuffed London Broil. Wife is finishing up rice and sweet potatoes and green beans.
Spoke with sisters and with my Dad. One of the folks at the firehouse is taking Dad's shift...very nice. He is having dinner with one of the sisters and her family. Today is kind of tough being the first holiday without Mom. We will get through it.

Plop Plop Fiz Fiz, BURRRRRP. Now I am better. Ate two plates of turkey, dressing, butter beans, turnip greens, deviled eggs, chicken salad and ham. Then three deserts [small helpings]. 3 glasses of ice tea. How lucky we are as some would have been happy with one item.
Deer enjoyed Thanksgiving too. Had eaten all my corn at one feeding station at the bottom of the hill. The corn at the other one at the top of the hill at the pond had not been touched. 3 were standing at top of the hill at the entrance when I drove in. Checked the spillway for the beaver blockage. None. Shot at a gray hern with pistol. Came out and "reloaded" the feeding station. Soon three came out to see me but did not eat. Just stopped and looked for a while. The big foxes did not come out as I was there with the S&W match grade .22. Was dark so came on home for an Alka Seltzer. Might run some trains.
Notice Buckeye has not posted much. He can hardly speak. That is why he has not posted much. Sounds horrible. Get well old guy.

Cooked a little turkey (sans legs and wings) on the grill today. Grilled asparagus, mashed pototoes, corn, stuffing, gravy, cranberries too. Good stuff.
This is the first year my wife and I have been alone on Thanksgiving. Work schedules and distances did not allow any family visits.

A quiet thanksgiving on the hill. Observers are over doing laundry at the other telescope. The Vatican Telescope is "blessed" w/ such facilities. I opened up the bad 1122. It was almost as easy as opening a 1121. Went ahead and drilled out the rivets on the other two "fixers". The bad one had so much rust I think is was getting intermittent contact thru the paper insulation. Going to try and reassemble w/ machine screws so I can get them apart again if necessary. I'm going to try and drill and tap the frog point.
Chief - don't know if I'll see Santa first. Doesn't he start in the east? But if he's emitting at over 200 GHz we might hear something. Speaking of which, the guys should put a submm beacon on the Tardis for additional tracking and navigation:)
I guess I should go make my turkey sandwich. We will be "blowing the hatch" within the hour. Should be another quiet night. I'll have to ask Kuan what the frequency of the organic molecule for pumpkin pie is...

Much to be thankful for here.
Was a lazy day. Hope every one had as nice a day as I did
Went to Mass this morning.
Did a few things around the house. My son came over and we put coolant, gas and oil in the new 50cc machine I bought for my grandson. After a couple of kicks it fired right up. We both made a couple of passes in the drive way. Granny(my Mrs) just shook her head at us. Man will that thing run for a 50. Grand son will be tickled come Christmas. Did I mention he wants to be a hill climber?
Spent the rest of the day helping prepare Thanksgiving Meal. Had a wonderful feast with my parents, kids and grandkids. Now unwinding with my friends and a glass of wine.
Will start the tractor engine tomorrow and run it till it's hot. then pull valve train and re-torque head. I didn't do that the last time I put it together. Consensus from the tractor forum I found said thats why the head gasket blew so soon. Having the small tractor back in operation will allow us to haul manure on Saturday
If any of you'd like to help we'll be getting started about 8:00 AM
Chief, my BIL and I hunted a Huge buck some years back. It left a Huge hoof print. one of the neighbors got the huge buck . The huge hoof print continued to be found. During doe season that year my nephew killed a large doe. Guess where the huge hoof prints were coming from???

Son in law announced he got hired yesterday for machine mill work. He has been off since first week of Dec.08. Management said they have solid work till spring. It's something. right.

Had a great Thanksgiving - only one sister and her family were not able to make the trek back to St. Louis. It's amazing how our kids are growing - we were the kids just a couple days ago, right? Some are driving and dating already, sheesh! I made dressing with sausage, Mom made the big turkey, potatoes, green bean casserole, regular dressing, etc. Others brought pies and snacks. It was great I had a big piece of pumpkin pie and a smaller piece of pecan pie. Brought home about 5 pounds of turkey and some dressing for tomorrow too
Hope everyone had a great day.Had a great morning with the kids and a fairly easy night at work.Good luck hunting and please be careful.My wife wants to go out early tomorrow for hand to hand combat at the mall.Good night all and my prayers for all that need them.

It was a cold and wet day in SE Indiana with a few flurries of SNOHIO in the air. We spent the day at my sister's place. We ate well and watched some football. Watched a taped "Glee" as the wife and I went to see "2012" Wednesday night movie. Very good movie for that type of show. Leaves are finally all down so I can finish them either Friday or Saturday depending on the weather. I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast. TBIL, and I can drive if it is operational tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.

Evening All !
Had one more great Thanksgiving! Weather was not very cooperative with the season, it was 80 here today! We had dinner on the patio, currently 10:30 pm and its still a warm 62 outside.
Inlaws were over, we gave them an early Christmas gift ! Got them an electric fireplace. She has always wanted a house with a fireplace, and there house isn't real big so the electric one works well. Talk about excited ! Tears and everything. So we took it over and rearranged their living room for them. It looks really good and fits in well.
Decided I was going to watch Macys Parade, hadn't seen it in a long time. Now I know why it isn't broadcast out here. We have 160 stations but nothing with that. Now if anyone wants to know anything about Korean, Chinese, Phillipino, Mexican, cultures I can surly help with that. We have atleast 5 or 10 stations for each.
Chris has to be at work (Sports Authority) at 4 am, Kay is going to the MallBrawl with her girl friend tomorrow morning, so I have the day off and will get to work on the pool filter. Then get down all the Christmas decorations, they are supposed to go up this weekend. Hope to get some pictures done in the train room. Also need to figure out what happened none of the layout accessories are working. Must have lost a power connection somewhere or maybe a fuse.

Trying a photo post again guys. Lets see if this works.
OK, finally figured that out. Some of the tips for posting photos were not accurate for my system I think.
Well, I know have 6 switches working Heres a photos of 2 of 'em on the bench.
One of the problems was that I didn't have the insulated pins in. W/O them the outside rail is connected and the switch doesn't work due to the anti-derailing feature. Figured that out from the Greenburg manual once I realized these were 1122E turnouts. On the other the rack was binding a bit. A little of the Lucas Red 'n Tacky #2 fixed that (thanks again whomever suggested that).
The far end lantern is faded. The observer Kuan suggested using a colored pen and I tried a dry erase one after the photo was taken. Worked fairly well so I'll have to experiment w/ that. 4 X 40 machine screws working well for replacing the rivets. A purest might frown, but at least I can get them apart again easily if I need to. I'll try drilling and tapping the frog points later. Is that anything like cutting the nuts off a frog? Forget who mentioned that story...
The Taiwanese observers made chicken wings for Thanksgiving dinner and invited me. Nice bunch of folks.
Off to get some other stuff done.

Had a good Thanksgiving with both Grandma's and the Sister in law's family, watched some football with her hubby.
Ran some trains and played around with a track plan re-org.
The wife and her mom took the kids out to Walmart, I guess for entertainment, and came back with a slew of Lionel tee shirts .
Today may be fun as the same women who are smart enough to not go shopping on Black Friday have decided to go out and eat lunch on said Friday........... a bit of questionable judgement in my opinion, give me strength brothers

Unfortunately for both of us, they have had an ill summer and fall! However, being married to a life long Cubs fan has taught me to "Wait till next year"

Wifey has already been shopping and returned with a load as two flat screens [+ other things] are in "mud room" [large one for living room at lake house and smaller one for our bedroom, our bedroom one goes to lake house bedroom, unless SIL got them and brought them from her Walmart]. Anyone want a huge big screen TV [lake house livingroom has a monster]. They are shopping away.

Belated Happy Thanksgiving to all. Had a nice day with my Mrs., Son and GF, Mom & Dad, Bro & SIL, nephew, Cousin & Wife plus 2 kids. Much smaller group than usual as my other cousin & her husband moved to NC near SC border and her kids, spouses and Grandchild went South for Turkey Day. Nice meal and great desserts.
Son is heading to WVU for Backyard Brawl, not sure of WVU's chances against Pitt but it is always a toss up. Records don't matter. His GF isn't going to the game so she may stay here and work on a paper for Grad school or she may had back to VA. Mrs might go shopping but there's noway I am heading out into the land of the crazies. There's noting for sale that I want bad enough to venture out for.
Days off seem to fly by. Enjoying the time away from work. Just a couple weeks until the Christmas break. It is a short one this year, just 7 days off not including weekends. Some years it is much longer. Next year is even shorter.
Well, I better get going.

I am at work, not out “shopping”. The coffee line at the convenience store was nonexistent, I got my java and Hostess Cherry Pie and dashed off. I’m still trying to figure out why I’m here. There is no work to be done and they are selling cars (be still my beating heart).
TD day was a success, I cooked the Turkey (30lbs) and the yams, the princess did the mashed potatoes and the stuffing, as well as setting the dinner table. She is the 3rd generation to cook from my Mom’s & Grandfathers’ recipes. I’m so proud of her and the way she has rebounded. She also baked 3 Pumpkin Pies from Mom’s recipe as well. Then helped clean house. WOW!!
I’ll probably clean my office here since I’m here. Forgot to bring reading material, just nothing to get done.
Oh, well....
Get better soon, there Buckeye...need ya bud!

It is cloudy and cool in SE Indiana with temps in the 40s. This will be an "inside" day as tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and warmer. I had bran muffins on the dining car (courtesy of the "saucy wench") for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East". TBIL and TGIF. I hope everyone has a good day. Lucas is here until Sunday with his girlfriend until Sunday. Should be an interesting three days.
Well, made it through Black Friday lunch out at Olive Garden with the crew. It wasn't that bad, only a 30 min wait... now I'm full, must be time for trains...got to work some of that food off!
The ankle feels mostly better although still is sore, mostly when I am sitting still with nothing else to think about.. At least its getting better.
Good Afternoon everyone! Buckeye, glad you are feeling better. Chief, too bad you are that far up there, we also picked up a flat screen for the bride. She wanted a VCR/DVD recorder so she can copy all the video tapes to DVD and still watch the tapes if she should choose. Plan is to allow the kids to watch movies in the master bedroom should we have company. Normally, we don't let them watch TV or movies unless we are there to supervise.
Laz, the oil-less turkey fryer works well. Two caveats, first is that you have to marinate well, using injection, etc. Second, you don't cook by time, you go by internal temps. Have to put thermometer in thickest part of meat and make sure it gets to 165 decrees. Was as good as oil frying.
Well, started the day off early. Got up about 2am and did my daily reading/prayer then, after getting ready, had to stop by Toys R Us before going in to do an early heart. All went well. Kids shopping is done! With all that we purchased for bride, her shopping is done too. I am sure I will still need to get something for under the tree, but at least the big stuff is done. Have been taking a short break as I am in the middle of mounting the flat screen on the wall.
One issue we had upon returning to the house....dog ate a package of Hershey's Chocolate Bars. Called vet and she said for his size, he'd have to eat a pound before it hurt him. He still may have a upset stomach, but should be OK. We are keeping him outside till this evening.

We set up the trains for the train show. A lot of really neat layouts. I will take several pictures and share them.

Jim - Got the 600 crossing gate today. It looks better than I expected.
Heading down to MIL's for dinner; ther is going to be around 30 people!

It looked to be in pretty good shape in the photos. Have you tested it yet? Now, I am looking for a 566 whistling billboard. I passed on some at the show, and I am regretting that. There is a gorgeous 577 Ringling Bros. billboard that I am eyeing at the moment...
