Rumor has it, that when they were filming the movie, (at the time), Mrs. Ted Turner AKA Hanoi Jane showed up.  All the guys dressed in uniform turned their backs to her.  I have yet to see the movie, we have it, but have only read the books at this point.

For those with a direct line upstairs, one of our friends, who's daughter is in my daughter's class, had a stroke today.  He is in good shape, physically and in his mid 30s.  Name is John.  Also found out that my sister had one of her kidneys shut down.  They are running tests to find out why.  Just seems like a lot of things happening right now, but we know where our strength is.

Looks like they have saved the big case for Friday.  Fortunately, I am no longer on call as that typically leads to disaster.  You will be doing a big case, then, one of the outlying hospitals will send an emergency case that prolongs the day well into the night.  Many times, it is just one hospital that has been sitting on a case for several days and decides to dump them on us....won't get into the politics of it, but being a charity hospital, we get more than our share of the "fun".

Have a great weekend,
Dennis

Hello to all, I was late for work tonight.About an hour before I would of left my wife discovered the sewer backed up in the basement.Had  to go to Home Depot and rent a drain cleaner.Appears one of the kids flushed a wipe and it got hung up on some tree roots. Enough of my whining, prayers for all that need them.

Good Evening

50s a little rain more expected. Dennis will do. Granny baked the pies, one almost gone already. several in the freezer. Canned the applesauce. She still had enough energy to fry chicken, mash potatoes, fix  white chicken gravy and biscuits. Needless to say she has gone to bed.

Waiting for the tardis with banilla, no pie for those guys though. Well oook..S.J.

Jon, what did you play - accordion, saxophone, drums? Trying to figure what is common to Polka and Jazz. I watch the Big Joe Polka Show on RFD-TV occasionally, not for the dancing but for the bands.

Pat --  I played trumpet and was very busy, played three nights a week and made more money playing those nights than I did in 5 days of teaching ............

There is no corelation between polka bands and jazz, polka bands always paid better.  Makes no sense except I enjoyed both, it was rare when I didn't have a good time ... the late nights just wore me out along with the fire mens brawls dances.  The stories I could tell ............

Dennis - prayers sent bro, sorry to hear about all that.

Howdy guys - well, did a "dry run" for the bathroom layout with a chair in place of the "throne" and wife wants it moved.  OK.  That should add a weekend to that project, lol.  Also will need to move the supply line.  I'm really tempted to hire a pro to move that toilet drain.  I hate doing work like that.  I'll do wire and copper all day, but don't like the drains.  Oh well, I have a saw that can cut the cement and some big drill bits, so I can do it I guess....

Nice chats with RT, SJ and Charlie tonight.  Like all the friends we have all made here on the CTT forum Thumbs Up

TARDIS is ready and have a request to make a quick dash across The Pond to pick up John Baker in Merry Old England, along with some Doc Robinsons, whatever that is?  Pie and banilla sounds good to me!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Dennis, prayers sent for your sister and father of your child's friend.  Asking for showers of blessings.

Had our Thursday night get together this week for a change and checked out a new DVD given to me for my birthday.  One of the guys brought a new DVD player to attach to our old TV in the garage so now we can have train movies sometime.  Took a bunch more pictures of my layout earlier today for practice with the new camera.  They turned out better than I expected.  Will post some pretty soon.  TCA meet coming up this coming Saturday.  Display theme this month will be something orange for Halloween I suppose.  Have to get ready for bed now.  It's getting late.  I forgot, The California Angeles beat the dreaded Yankees tonight.  May not change the inevitable but it felt good.

Aloha and TGIF. It is pouring, windy and cold here for the second straight day. There's a panhandler near my office who plays an accordion.. he's better than the ubiquitous bucket-players. Ugh, Brutus, don't try that yourself. Hiring someone might be a good idea. Got the new CTT and read most of it on the train-ride in - a great issue. I laughed while perusing the letters-to-the-editor. You might too. Prayers for your friend and sister, Dennis. The elder Shaharra was a better writer than the son IMHO. Did you see the 'coming attractions' for the Lionelville movie? Looks fun: http://www.lionelville.com/ Here's some pretty spectacular photos of that UP derailment that knocked out commuter service through Monday here on the SW lines. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-091022-train-derail-pictures,0,6697552.photogallery

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and still mild in SE Indiana with temps in the low 60s.  Welcome back, Jack!  Have missed your "commentaries".  Was tired last night.  Did some weights (not at full strength), some treadmill and only a little bit of soccer touches before deciding to call it a night.  Kept falling asleep watching a tape of F-1 race.  Did not have to drive to work today, which was a good thing.  Prayers going out to all who need them.  No direct connection here, but more like "a friend of a friend of a friend...."   Lots of FFA kids in Indy this week.  If I had a royalty on the jackets, I could have retired long ago.  Nice bunch of kids, but one got hurt in a fall at the downtown mall.  Big wreck and explosion on NE side of Indy has major interchange closed.  Will snarl traffic for quite a while.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast this morning before sending it to "Points East".  BTW, a certain southern gentleman needs to know GRITS and coffee are NOT part of the "regular" fare (or even the "irregular" fare).  TGIF, Buckeye and everybody else.  Looking forward to the weekend.  TBIL after "Numb3rs".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning

Lite rain most of the nite and still at it. 50s.

Laz, thanks for noticing the changed avatar, I was suprised no one mentioned the photos Charlie posted on Pg 37, but we were competing with pictures of a plasticville outhouse.

Only plans for today is our friday meal out. Egg and spam sandwich for breakfast.

 SJ,

I did notice the pictures on page 37, apparently of YOUR train room.  Actually, I wasn't sure whether it was at your place or someone else's.  Since it now your avatar, I assume it is yours.  Also, I do have to admit I was admiring some of the cars on the shelves.

Looks like a nice room !!

Have a great day all !!

Morning all.  Warm and balmy.  Above average temps.  Does this every year.  A chilly "snap" and then back warm.  Off to the gym.

Dennis, prayers.

Jack, good to see the old Yankee MA humor is back to the forum.  Gives me a chuckle when I read your posts.

SJ, wifey will not cook spam.  I fry it and put mustard on it.  Eat it for a meal.  A line from an old Cary Grant movie about building a house in the country.  He was trying to come up with a advertising line for a ham product named Yham.  Could not think of a good one.  The cook comes in at the last of the moive and says something like this, "You don't have ham if its not Yham."  Probably not the exact words as been a couple of month since I saw the movie.  It always makes me think of SPAM.

Got to pickup lake house neighbor's German wife tonight at RDU.  She is flying in from Germany.  Her BIL died.  She went back for funeral.  I will carry her home and check out the lake house.  Return tomorrow.  Saves him a trip to Raleigh and back.

Later.

SJ,

Are those green passenger cars on the shelf behind you original PW Lionel? From the looks of them, very clean would be an understatement.Thumbs Up

Jack,

         Welcome back.

Harold,

If you've got roots in the sewer pipe, things only get worse. Been there, done that.

Jim,

Thankfully, your pic of the 350 Royal Blue had no effect on me.Wink If it had smoke and choo choo, that would be a different story.

Sad news.  Some will remember that Frankie's dog, Sheriff [oldy 3], had cancer and was put to sleep.  He has gotten another one and it is about a year and a half years old.  His "elbow" kept jumping out of joint.  Had surgery today to tighten the ligament and was to come home late this evening.  Vet called and said dog died.  Seems from what Frankie made out from call, he did not wake up good and they went to check on him and he had quit breathing.  Tried to revive but did not happen.  I am more mad than sad as Vet should have had staff watch him until he was awake good.  I am calling it Vet neglect.

Sorry for Frankie's dog, Chief.  BTW - Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House is one of my All Time Favorite movies!  Love it!  I always figured they were doing a take off on Spam also Thumbs Up

Took off early - called a local guy and he could not do work on the sewer line for me as it requires a permit.  Called another place and they said the guy would be here by 2:30, so I took off early at 1:30 from work as wife had to leave the house at 2.  I was about 15 minutes from home when she called to say he already had looked at it - said everything looked great by the way and I did good work Big Smile.  But, he can't do it today, will have to come back Monday as needs to file permit.  Didn't know he needed one since it's just a change to an existing sewer line?  Dont' want any bends in it though - straight shot please.  Anyway, we agreed on a price because I will repair the concrete (need to do another spot too) and he'll knock off $150 for that.  It will cost about $1100, but it seems WELL worth it to me to get the sewer line moved.

Luckily I already ordered the Dewitt Clinton, because I don't think my wife would let me do it NOW!  Shock
