SPMAN, RAY,

We have 2 ponds, first one is about 1200+ gal.  We did this one 9 years ago on the account of a tree falling down after a storm.  Wife wanted it so I dug it.  Second one she wanted for a BDAY gift and it took me a week of pick and shovel work but got r done.  That one is 4000+ gal.  I took out 148 wheel barrows of dirt and gave it to the township.  My biggest problem is having too many fish.  I sarted with 7 and have in excess of abot 500.  I also gave away at least another 500+ to who ever wants them.  Now I'm thinking about stocking some bass to see if they'll eat some of these goldfish.  All and all very relaxing sitting out there after my morning runs in the summertime.  Just love it.

Laz.......Please sit down.  I have some terrible news for you.  We now have a new gadget called a backhoe that can do all this work for you very quickly and easily.  Another new gadget is a dump truck.  It isn't as complicated as the backhoe, but has more wheels than the wheel barrow.   Whistling

If you had availed yourself of these new gadgets, you could have been out there running those extra miles for fifedog and me. Laugh

Evening all from beautiful Southern Ohio

It was beautiful today, sunny breezy and around 70.

DougM – is there a history of high BP in your family?  Special prayers for you.

Laz – your ponds sound really neat.  It would be relaxing I bet.

Buckeye – After many years of physically digging holes, busting up concrete, etc. I found this wonderful place that rents out tools, like backhoes, post hole diggers, tampers, concrete mixers, jackhammers.  It’s wonderful!

Pat – here is another outhouse shot.  Hey, there is something stuck to your shoe!

May God bless

Jim

Dennis, thank you for the tip.  A video would be nice to have.  I do keep the instruction book with the camera though.

Laz, Bass sounds like a good idea.   They will keep down the bugs  on the pond.  My old fish pond was pretty small compared to yours but I put in a few baby bass anyway.  After a while there were no more goldfish or mosquitos or anything else.  Unfortunately, the racoons got the bass too.

Don, sorry we could not make connections today but understand your business priorities took more time than planned.  I had to do some shopping anyhow so not able to stay home much longer.  We will make it at a later time.

Pat, reclinerizing while eating popcorn must be the secret.  Another thing is, stop eating before you reach the bottom of the bowl.  That's where all the hulls are.

Ran trains a little bit this morning but had to go in  for smog check on my clunker (1987 Buick) which unfortunately did not qualify as a clunker.  The book says the thing gets 23 MPG.  That's a laugh.  It has'nt seen that kind of milage in it's life.  Anyway, it passed the smog inspection.  That car is like the Ever ready bunny.  That's why I keep it.  It still has less than 100,000 miles on it but it must be worth about 50 cents on a trade in.  My 1996 Honda is good too but is costing more to maintain.  Went in yesterday for an oil change and came out with a $763 bill and a new radiator amoung other things.  Can't complain though.  Have'nt had to spend much on it for quite a while.

Getting ready for the dinner bell now so I will sign off.

Ray

Aloha all. Jim, I don't think I have any BP issues in my extended family, but they're unfortunately closed-mouth about all that. Sir J, who is that handsome man in your avatar photo?  Watching the Dodgers / Phillies game I do not know why. Bride is out with friends. Came home to rush out to play football in the leaves with the boys before dark. Then late dinner of sandwiches.   Ah the things we can do when bachelor-izing, even for a few hours. Off to run trains.

Jim S - Great pictures on last SPF!

This one reminds me of a conversation I overheard between Chief and Buckeye:

Buckeye was sitting in the outhouse with his hand down the hole beside him.

Chief - "Buckeye, what are you doing?"

Buckeye - "I dropped my jacket down here."

Chief -  "You aren't going to wear it are you?"

Buckeye - "No, but I had a biscuit in the pocket!"

Pat

I remember that time well.  It was a chicken biscuit he ate. Shock

Home and resting.  Popcorn and now wifey came in from fair with footlong hotdog.  There goes the diet and I will have the go 4 miles tomorrow at the gym.

Turned real warm here.  Out with Lucy in my shirt sleves tonight.

Got to get photos of NS Operation Livesaver posted.

 Hello all,

It's been a beautiful fall week, another nice day today. Rain for tommorow and Saturday. I'm planning on taking my grandson to the Altoona Train Show on Sunday. I did pick up a Revell loco last Sunday in Bedford. The dealer attendance there seemed to be off. I blame that on the date conflicting with York.

Soybean all in, corn is allmost ready. Waiting on parts for the Massey Ferguson.

A couple of you have mentioned the RFD TV show on the 1361. I'd like to see it but have no access to RFD TV. is it available on DVD?

LAZ, that's a lot of digging!!!!!! Did you line the ponds with rubber roofing?

Prayers to all who may need them.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy with rain moving in later on today in SE Indiana.  The "saucy wench" meet me at the soccer game last night and we went to Pizza Hut after the game.  The young lady we went to see play started and played most of the game.  It was a mixed emotion game as her team lost 5-0, but it was to the college me and Mrs. Buckeye graduated from (Hanover).  She seemed to appreciate the fact some one other than family members showed up.  After we got home, we watched "Glee" and "Eastwick".  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning for breakfast before sending it to "Points East".  TBIL, and I can drive after my workout at the YMCA tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all.  Warm again.  Got a dinner and play to attend tonight [wife thing].

Banks, I get RFD-TV [Trains and Locomotives and I love Toy Trains] on Direct TV at the lake house.  Time Warner cable says they are going to broadcast it but still not on our program lineup.  Got good programs except the Joe Poka Show.  Who wants to watch an hour or so of folks dancing the poka.  Well, those folks from the frozen far north might [IW, ND, SD, WI, MI]. Laugh  They only get out about 4 months of the year.  They'll watch anything by Jan and Feb.  Sounds like you had a good farming year.

I see Mike C had "regular fare" on the dinning car.  Guess that means grits and coffee. Laugh

Meeting with Time Warner Cable this afternoon and that is all the Town "stuff" for today.

Later

PS:  Sorry I forgot to post this AM.  RT, great catfish fillets you sent.  Went good with Gods and Generals movie last night.  Thanks

Aloha all. Rainy and cold today. Glad to be working from home. As Brutus said, great train talk with him, Charlie and Sir J - what magnificent trains Sir J has!  Mike C, I have a few friends from Hanover - a great college. Looks to be wet and cold for the next few days. Too bad because the leaves on our trees have been spectacular. Looks like I missed the window to prep our deck for winter. Oh well. Hope to run trains later. The 248 needs a workout.

I've been drooling over Hornby on eBay just for fun.  May you all have a safe and blessed day

Good Morning

Overcast and 50s.

Still thinking about last evening and the pleasure of  friends. Granny kept her word and is busy making pies, apple sauce later. Small breakfast but enough.

Enjoy your day...S.J.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 50 degrees. Going up to a sunny 70.

Today is a busy day. Wife is going grocery shopping. I have some chores around the house. Maybe spend some time in train room later.

Dining car was here from "Points West". Had the usual breakfast, which means Cheerios and a Blueberry muffin. No grits allowed.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

BANKS,

After doing all the digging I put down 2 inches of sand then got old carpeting from local carpet company, and placed along sides and bottom so no roots or shale would harm the rubber roofing.

Chief--

It's Polka not Poka Clown   I made a LOT OF MONEY is the late '60's and early 70's playing in polka bands in MN & SD, weddings/dance clubs/ballrooms/fire mens brawls/etc.  Those were the days before liquor by the drink and folks really enjoyed going out on a Saturday night with their bottle because it was affordable and I don't recall any accidents happening like we hear about today.  I gave it up in '72 when we were married as those Saturdays were very late.  I still play once in awhile in a jazz quartet but the days of live bands are fading away slowly & painfully.  There's a dance hall north of us (about 20 miles) that still fills up every Sunday night, Big Band music.  Fun to watch good dancers.

Jon, what did you play - accordion, saxophone, drums? Trying to figure what is common to Polka and Jazz. I watch the Big Joe Polka Show on RFD-TV occasionally, not for the dancing but for the bands.

We have a dance hall a few miles from us that is  still BYOB.

Greetings from rainy Spain.  Finally got this project buttoned up.  I'll be flying home on Saturday - finally.

Just scanned through a page of the newest listings on the Pot.  Looks about normal.  I'll catch up in more detail after I get home.

Ran across a book today about the history of our plant here in Manrasa.  Turns out that its ancestor was manufacturing railroad equipment in the 1920's.  Ya learn something new every day.

Later all.

Been a nice day.  Had to go in for one case later this morning and done shortly after 1pm.  Came home in the absolutely beautiful weather here.  Took the tables I have been refinishing out into  the warm outdoors.  Did a little final steel wool treatment, then, inside to put a good layer of butcher's wax to keep them in good shape.

Son and I are watching Military channel on "Fight School" where they are in China learning Kung Fu.  One guy just broke two iron bars over his head...OUCH!, but he said no pain.  Regarding Joe's Big Polka Show on RFD, I grew up with a lot of Polish friends...who actually played accordion.  I have turned the show on when the kids whine about dad watching his shows...tell 'em that if they fuss, I'll leave the polka show on and that settles things.

Practiced violin and son finished his homework, so it is pretty much boys evening till the girls arrive from dance lessons.  Just one thing after another.

Chief, looks like you had quite a time on that outing.  Would like to do that sometime.  Did get to do a few rides on my neighbor's railroad prior to his selling it to Genesee and Wyoming.  Lots of fun.

God Bless,
Dennis
