Good Morning all.  A bit on the wet side down our way.  No chance of snow as it will be in the 80s.
Jon, I am originally from NJ.  In fact, I grew up just a few blocks from Rt.80....I know, if you aren't doing 80, you will get run over!

Don, I for one would like to thank you in your efforts to keep this a civil place.  Nuff said about that.

I am still on call and going in late.  Lots of small cases this morning, so the other guys can handle them.  It is nice to see the teams come together at work for the benefit of the patient.  Think I will have a little talk with administration.  Got to watch some real professionals in action last night and often, their efforts are either taken for granted, or just overlooked.

I got to sleep late and bride took the kids to school.  Will have a few hours to ourselves before heading to work.  Perhaps we will watch a movie.  We really try to protect the kids from much of what is on, but it is hard to do as very few programs are kid friendly.
God Bless and have a great day,

Dennis

Good morning all,

It is cold wet and miserable in SE Indiana with temps in the 40s.  Did not work out at YMCA last night, but I wish I had.  The "saucy wench" wants to repaint back room and have new carpet put in (both the paint and carpet are over 20 years old), and so I was lugging furniture all over the place.  I did find some old Halsam building brick sets that I could not remember where I had put them so it was not a total loss.  I was tired.  I slept well.  SP Man, a belated Happy Birthday!  I had the regular fare along with a cinnamon twist donut on the dining car for breakfast before sending it to "Points East".  TBIL, and I can drive after "Glee" tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Well, it’s Wednesday...

Up to 81F today, the humidity is very high and it’s 70F right now.  Chance of showers later.  High in the low 70 upper 60’s for Saturday & Sunday....for Biketoberfest.

Looks like I may NOT be going to Biketoberfest, I have friends coming in from Atlanta (Dave’s son & d-i-l, from the Train Works), will have dinner with them Sat. night.  I’d love to go during the week, I have vacation time to burn, but no one is available to pick up the Princess from school and that is a major issue Banged Head.  There is a train festival in Palatka, I may go there via Amtrak ($11 r/t), but we’ll see.

I’ll be picking up the HD tomorrow most likely, chances of riding are nil, rain tomorrow and Friday – so say the weather prognosticators.

Snow in PA?  Niiicccceee.  Miss the white stuff, just not so much for Halloween, after that, I’m up for it.

Dennis – oh, yeah, same rules apply for the Turnpike – and 80 is the SLOW speed.

Angel for all that need ‘em, I’ll check back later

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Increasing clouds and 43 (you can always tell a Petty fan...) in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Hair cut, Home Depot, then yard work today.  Having issues with the old Right-Of-Way 4040 signals I'm installing, as the wiring shematic may be askew.  Once they are up and running, will be worth it.  I think the only thing I'll be looking for at YORK is a handsome looking crossing gate.  Trying to recreate the one at Baltimore St in downtown Cumberland, MD, and it's a bit of an oddity.  May just have to settle for something a little more banilla.

Aloha all. Cold and grey here - 42 - beginning to spit rain too. Lovely day to be indoors. Jealous of all of you going to York. Can't wait to hear about what you see and buy. Great ride home on the train with Sir J, Brutus, Wes, Charlie and RT. Quite the raucous virtual-train car experience. Hope to run some trains today. Would like to try a long Marx train I've made up and 'tied' to Percy.

Good Morning !

Things looking up in this part of So. Cal., getting things under control, finally.  More important though Angel prayers continue for Brutus and wife, hope things start improving SOON  !

Last weekend I was having vehicle issues, (still am) but I think we have turned the corner.  We had lost the van due to the head gasket, then the Service Engine light comes on for the wifes Buick.  (Of course that requeires immediate attention.)  Take it to the garage, and end up with a $730 for a thermostat, radiator flush, gas and fuel filter, and a trotlle dohickey.  I go and talk to the "technician", and start of with the thermostat and he says its "stuck closed", I ask why isn't it overheating or getting hot?  Answer "It is intermittingly stuck!"  Now that is a new one.  Long story short, get oil changed no additional work done.  Wife brings car home, charge $84 for an oil change!  Turns out $49 diagnostic charge, and no diagnostic report.  Call Service Mgr, ask about that, and he gets a copy, then we go through each item.  As I'm asking questions he confirms all the items are identified based upon mileage, and scheduled maintenance.  The thermostat issue is most probably an anomoly.  Offered me 10% discount on any repair.

Then I find a good looking very affordable van on the interenet, and priced at $3500, of course its on the other side of LA.  Make arrangements go and check it out.  Ended up the guy had 3, and picture posted was a "stock representative vehicle" not the vehicle for sale.  So that was a waste of time.  Went to a van only place last night, found a pristine 2005 Ford Freestar.  Small vehicle but would be perfect for our application.  While I was checking it out had FIL run a Carfax report, it all came back very favorable, and the family liked it.  The dealer told us to take it for a couple of days, have a mechanic check it out.  Drive it, etc..,  And bring it back Thurs, if you still like it buy it then!  Asked for a copy of Driver License, and that was it.  So we have it in our posession, it has 127k, in very good condition, price $4k, also comes with 1yr warranty on drive train.   Want to check out an auto auction tonight but think this one is resolved.  I couldn't believe the place, they had over a 100 cargo vans at their site.  Very low pressure sale,  BTW, the guy told me if you don't like this one, when you bring it back, you can try another one if you want too.  Seems to good to be true, so will see.

We are actually getting some rain here today, not much, but enough.  Hope the people near the foothills avoid the mud slides.  But this could get messy between now and the holidays.

Jonkeep us informed of your trip, we need to arrange a layout tour.  I know Ray would be receptive, and of course my place.  So we can get this planned.

Later guys.

PS..

If you would like to see a really classy looking website, with many familiar cars, you really need to check out Buckeye's website.  http://lioneltrains2.shutterfly.com/

He has really done a great job.  Also, you can create your own site there, and its free!  Well worth the time, CHECK IT OUT.

 Hello all,

A bit under the weather here, in more ways than one.  I either have a very bad cold, the flu or something else similar.  And the weather predicted for York is terrible.  Cool and rain all three days.  Don't know how much I will get there this year, if at all.  Buckeye, Jack hasn't been a lot of help with my cough.

Don, Sounds like a good deal on the van.  BTW Ford has a recall out but I don't think the 2005s are included.  Something about a cruise control switch starting fires.  Both of my daughters have Ford vans and like them.  It seems costs have gone crazy, just put new tires on Jeans Buick SUV and the bill was just short of 1k.  Then he hands me a $70 rebate form.  I hate rebates, why not just lower the price.

If Jon has the time, he should also see the layout(s) in San Deago.

Along with Don, Angel prayers for Brutus and wife.

Don,

Did you get my PM? Be careful with Carfax, because it only has info on reported events. If a vehicle was damaged in an accident but the accident or repair was never reported, the Carfax will say it is a clean vehicle. I got burnt on the Sunfire like this. The Carfax was clean, but upon further inspection the car took a bad hit on the passenger side at some point. The passenger side fender has a significant amount of filler, the door was replaced with a door from a different year, and the gaps between panels are very uneven. I am stuck with this until it is paid off, then it'll go to the crusher so that no one else gets stuck with all the headaches. I am looking into Fords and Mazdas for when I can get another car.

Thank you Don for singing happy birthday (sort of).  That was special.  Yes it would be nice if we could see some other forum members at Cal Stewart.  That would be fun.  As for new camera, have not opened the box yet.  Holding off for my birthday celebration which we have postponed until the week end to include my Grandson's birthday which is on the 17th.  We are going to have a double birthday.  My son is going to get me a new thingy for hooking the cable up from my camera to the PC.  My PC does not have enough ports to plug in stuff so we need an adapter of some kind.  Looking forward to learning how to use the camera.  I used to take a lot of railroad pictures years ago with an SLR film camera but digital is all new to me.  I saw some pictures last night of a friend's daughter's trip to Africa.  Amazing shots of all the animals!  Don't give up, I will come to see your trains eventually.  Thanks again for the invitation.  I loved that NC Bar-B-Que you spoke of but I don't know if my system could handle it anymore.  Probably kill me but I would die happy.

John,  Sorry to hear your not feeling that well.  You will probably need to increase the dosage!  Got to be severe to keep you from York.

Jim, I agree with you 100%, I wanted the Carfax for the registration history.  Typically here all used vehicles retain the license plate when resold.  This one had none, signifying to me it was from out of state.  Wanted to know where,  (actually I asked the sales rep if he new where it was from, possibly Louisana, he said he thought so.  Hmmm, as it turned out it was from NM/Ariz. was used for medical supply delivery.  Found out later it even had an insurance document, and history of maintenance in the glove box.)  the report ONLY address registration infor as far as I'm concerned.

I explained to my why,  that IF the car was in an accident and a police report generated, and that was EVEN cross referenced to the VIN number.    That there is NOT any automatic reporting mechanism for the extent of damage, fender crupple, frame or whatever.  The only way for frame damage would be if the repair shop reported it, and what motivation would they have to do that?  The only other valid information I would see is if the car had been "totaled" by an Insurance Co..

But your right looking for paint overspary around windows, or door jambs, or misallignment of lines, hood, trunk etc.  Or even heat or weld marks on frame.  But it is ALWAYs a roll of the dice.

I also got your PM, and other emails etc..  I too don't want to further muddy the waters here.

Gad - this project was supposed to finish up on Friday.  Looks like it is going to drag on to Monday or Tuesday next week.  Re-arranging travel plans again.  Looks like I fly home Wednesday or Thursday next week.

I've been here in Spain for two pay checks now.  Hummmm - I'm on travel expense, so my normal allotment for lunch money has gone un-spent.  More train funds!Whistling

I'm thankful I have a job to complain about and am just looking forward to getting home.

Prayers to those who need them - espically those who are looking for work.

CBQ - I grew up in Iowa (don't tell my southern buddiesWhistling) and saw the same type winters. "Cold snowy no more kahonies" also applies to a few winters here in Virginia, out on the tractor feeding the cows hay.

No, I don't think the weather will bother those going to York. Reservations were made early. And we are a hardy bunch.Approve

I don't know just how many barn cats we have, but more than I could count on fingers and toes. No rats or mice though.Thumbs Up

Evening all.  Back from lake house.  I heard there was a little ruckus while I was gone.  Guess most have gotten my email in reply to Don's original.  Enough said about that subject.

Have not had time to read over all the posts since I have been gone.  Will get to that later.  The main thing is the Yankees are sending cold and wet weather down here.  Wet we could use.  Cold, you can keep.  If this keeps up, I am sending Kurt, Sturg and SJ a C130 full of GRITS.  BTW, watched Trains and Locomotives on RFD-TV.  They were talking about the Northerns [locomotives].  Said the C&O renamed them something [can't remember] as it was a good old SOUTHERN railway.  Ohio Southern?????

Speaking of rain and we need it.  Here are some photos of Kerr Lake and it is as low as it has been in years.  Do not know if the Corps of Engineers messed up the new "curve" or what.

My work partner Lucy is coming up from the big dock I have been working on.

She stays right with her Dad or close by all day long.  You can see one to the concrete anchors that was dropped in the water when the dock was put there [left side of dock].  Normally you can not see it.  Normally at full pool the dock is right where the upside down section is close up in photo.

From the ramp.

BTW: you can see my big dock off in the distance.

Daddy's partner and her favorite thing.  Riding the golf cart.

 Chat later.

Evening all from cool Southern Ohio

Kids in bed dishes done and I am beat!  Now I know why you have kids while you are young!

I got some switches for the All Aboard panels.  I will use the All Aboard panels aas part of the public train display this fall.

You guys going to York, please be careful, going to say a prayer for travellers for you all.

May God bless

Ole Timer - Still working on the layout.  Right now, adding B&O style CPL's (color position lights) along the main.  Also, LEMAX just came out with the Alpine Bed & Breakfast (very similar to some of the homes you see up around Oakland), and I've "planted" it where the old section joins the new section.  I added the LEMAX Lodge, and Winery to my Christmas wish list as well.

Chief - Nice dock.  (...from one of your piersSign - Dots)

...I still have the PD.

Lucy, I'm Home !

Been doing some lurking but just to pooped to think & type, expecting some company this weekend and you guys know how it goes with SWMBO. Trying to get everything done short of picking the house up and rotating it 180*. Dead

Jim, I used heavy duty side mount drawer guides and mounted the transformers,  command base and power strip on 3/4" plywood. When it is time to run just slide out the open ended drawer, front & back, and turn on the juice.

Jon, Great news ! We'll be sure to get you a special tour. As soon as I can check the sign-up roster I'll drop you an e-mail with track availability.

Boy are these old eyes tired, trying to catch-up on all the back posts.

Belated Happy B-Day Ray, and many more to come !!!

Buckeye,

I have been using Vista since last Christmas, and I can't stand to use XP anymore. Vista looks better and is easier to navigate. My only complaint is that I have a few old games that don't get along with Vista, but that is a small price to pay. Before I got Vista, I read David Pogue's Windows Vista: The Missing Manual book cover to cover between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'll never, ever go back to XP. Just myMy 2 cents
