thanks to all for the welcome here. I see most are happy that I posted some pics on another thread here glad you all liked them. I have been working on a layout since the very late 70's I have had a total of 18 so far yet to finish one! the current one is okay but discovered not really happy with it as I should have modeled after my beloved pigs eye yard in north St.Paul,Minnesota . the 17th layout had to be torn down as we had termites and it was smack in the places they had to drill, my wife cried as I literally took wire cutters and severed all the wiring. back to # 18 it's an okay layout I have an engine area with a korber roundhouse and a bowser turntable along with 63&54" curves a separate depot area, it just has no room for switching cars out to any industries my room is long 19' but only 7.5' wide leaves very little for what I see those with the 15&20' wide layouts! the other trouble I seem to be jinxed if I think or work on train a car or something in on or around the house goes belly up and not just a time or two I mean every time so I tend to stay away and frankly that stinks! I am fortunate that unknowing to either myself or wife we both loved trains as my wife grew up on a farm in Grindstone Pa.and was born in a train station, and I grew up 3 blocks away from the CB&Q pigs eye yard so a train layout and buying trains is not an issue in fact my wife prefers hobby stores over department stores! we live in desert southwest so when the snow belt folks are enjoying the summer we do as you do in winter hibernate for nicer weather. I am okay at doing the easy wiring and building bench work my wife is good at artistic paints and how things blend ya know she's the first thing I did right and am lucky to have her. I hope you all have a great weekend with any luck maybe this weekend's the one I can play trains see ya later!

Jim,

Welcome back. I went 650-651 crazy while you were gone.Big Smile I've now got two green 650s, a green 651, and a red 651 to round that part of the collection out. The arrival of the red 651 was interesting to say the least. I was going to hold off on the green cars, but I won the set of three for $56 in the last few seconds.

Not much else to report today. I was going to work on the layout after I got home from work, but I decided to uncover the Probe and drive it around the neighborhood. It has been sitting for a few weeks, and I needed that stress release after work anyway.

8N, have you been to Toledo, Spain yet?  Absolutely beautiful place.  They have a lot of metal smiths there.  I have some swords I brought back.  Also, look into Goya for some of his work.

Sir James, your experience sounds like mine.  Takes a little while to recover from all the walking around.  I am sure you had a great time though.

Well, not much layout work, but we did build a building to cover some areas where the tracks curve under a mountain.  Instead of building a tunnel portal there, I thought it would add a little variety.  Have to thank Kent Johnson for that tip from many issues ago on using buildings to hide tracks.  It was fun having the kids help me.  I had taken drafting in school, so I was able to pass along some skills to my 7 year old.

Good Night,

dennis

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s.  Long day.  I drove to where the sectional was supposed to be at 10 AM this morning.  Got there and they were using sump pumps to dry the field!  Talking to the officials, they indicated it might be held at 5 PM.  Came home and did the sweeping.  Reffed two games for the local youth tourney.  Good games.  Watched IRL snoozefest as Mr. Ashley Judd (I really hate seeing her mug on the camera after he wins (what did she do to help him win?)) won the race and the title on a fuel strategy move.  Sarah was way off on the setup and AJ's car was not much better.  Milka had the best finish of the three ladies as the Princess was collected in the pits.  Race was all green flag (first ever) and was over 200 MPH.  Boys had their game (finally) at 6:00 PM and lost 1-0 on a PK (I guess it was good I did not go).  Very long day.  Longer day tomorrow.  Whole family will be here for dad's birthday.  Glad I have Columbus Day off.  I had the regular fare on the dining car.  TBIL.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Dennis - Toledo does not look to be in the card for this trip, as this week looks like it will be full with work.  I would like to visit there someday, though.  My youngest son made a visit there on the European tour he took when he was in high school.  He brought home a sword as a souviner.

Morning all.  Wife is working, kids are up and we are watching "Phantom Menace" of the Star Wars movies.  Just about time to start getting the kids ready for church.  I am on camera today, so hopefully my back will hold up.

8N, even if you can't make it to Toledo, I found Spain to be a most beautiful country everywhere I went.  A country full of history, yet modern in so many respects.  While I was there, they had a lot of issues with the Basque Party.  Soldiers were everywhere.  Also, found it to be spotless.

Since I have the kids alone today, after church and lunch, plan is to come home and do some layout work.  Want to finish a building and also get some work done on the mountains.  Since we live in a warm part of the country, we only have 1/2" and 3/4" foam board, so I have to do a lot of cut and glue to build the mountains.

Now I understand why Chief has to work so much, all the fine food these folks give him, if he didn't work it off, he would be too big to get into the train room.  Sounds like you had a good time your Honor.  Hope you and everyone here has a great week ahead.

God Bless,
Dennis

 Sign - Welcome back CB&Q:

18 layouts. Wow you must be an expert by now. Having a wife that is as interested in trains as yours is rare. Unfortunately, I am in the majority of train nuts that rarely sees the wife in the train room. Was your wife litterly born in a train station?

For those going to York - HAVE A GREAT TIME. I will make it one of these times.

Off to do the farm chores. Talk to all later.

HI GYZ,

41 and fooggy here.  Going to cut back all the flowers and cut grass today, then put away all the outside furniture.  Then maybe try and watch some football?

Stay frosty,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a chilly 38 degrees. Sun is shining. Going up to 58 today with lots of sunshine.

Today is an easy day. I have a few things to do and then I will watch the Nascar race from CA.   I hope #14 wins.  Baseball is over with, for the Indians.

Dining car was here from "Points West" and we had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

never been to york maybe when I retire as its a journey from southwest would make a nice trip just lumbering along at a leiserly pace and not the one you have to do when work for a living.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s eventually.  Up until a few moments ago, serenity and tranquility reigned supreme at the household.  Everybody else was sleeping.  "Saucy wench" is up now and in a couple of hours the entire family will descend upon the household.  Will be an interesting day.  We are having a birthday party for my dad.  He turns 82.  He will be bringing his girlfriend and she will be meeting most of the family.  All the kids and grandkids will be here, plus my sister and her family.  I am just savoring the lull before the storm lol.  I had the regular fare on the dining car before sending it to "Points East", where it has already been received.  TBIL after "Desperate Housewives" tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hey guys,

Just a quick note, plan on reviewing pot and other threads later this evening.  Another "Interesting" day, yesterday.  Of course we had another show to work, this one at the LA County Fairgrounds.  Left the house, stopped and got gas, and on our way.  Then the van starts coughing, then pinging, and begins to loose power.  Speed lowered to 40, and having difficulty to maintain, situation steadily getting worse.  Find a gas station, and then check the engine.  Engine was hot, manage to get it cooled down, then restart.   Sure enough, a HUGE white cloud emits from the exhaust, engine running extremely rough.  Manage to return home and unload everything, then reload into 2 other vehicles.  Then back to the show, and was ready for the opening.

Meanwhile, the van sitting at home with a blown head gasket.  I think this is the end of the road for that vehicle.  It is a '93, with 230,000 miles, by the time get it fixed which would most likely include grinding the heads, assuming they are not warped, would cost more than its worth.  So will start looking for a replacement this week.

With all that, hope you guys have a good day with the trains, etc..  Off to day 2.

Later

Don

Tardis ride was a little bumpy last night, need Rich to check out the suspension again.

Got up at 7 because my son was coughing.  Took a sudafed and an advil and he seems to be a lot better, but still has a temp.  Might take him to urgent care in a while, but he is not coughing now and says he feels better....  Decisions, decisions....

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 61 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Made sausage biscuits and gravy in the galley this morning.  Doing laundry, hanging pictures, and getting ready for kick-off.  Could call the game the B&O Bowl.  Cincinatti coming to town, with 85 talkin'-tweetin' trash.  In the end, all will succumb to the unibrow.

Prediction: bengals 20 RAVENS 31

Dbaker, sorry the Van is giving up the ghost on you.

Pat you must have good reasons for not attending York but I envy you living that close.

Picked up my MTH E6 diesels from the repair shop yesterday after two blown boards and 280 miles total of freeway driving in connection with this puppy.  Happily, all is well now.

I also picked up a new digital camera while I was out yesterday.  It's a simple Cannon Power Shot A1100 IS but maybe I can take some layout pictures with it.  Let you know later.

Under "price we pay now for security", my son was shaken down by local police for taking train pictures near post office in our town.  Son explained that he was a rail fan.  Cop never heard of railfans.  Don't know what planet he was from.  Seems some eager beaver helicopter pilot reported my son for "taking pictures of post office".  Thought he was a terrorist or something.  Come on guys, lighten up.

Afternoon.  175th Anv. at Church went great.  Play went with out one hitch.  Choir rocked us all.  The Eastern NC pork bar-be-que and SOUTHERN fried chicken was perfect.  Followed by plenty of sweet ice tea.  Hands shook and necks hugged.  Now to relax for a few.  Put out Wifey's Halloween in front yard.  By then, off to the lake.  Later

Yeah but when they see your ID( Badge) it does a lot of talking that our plain ID wouldn't even begin to.

Hey all nice day off have to work tomorrow but then 8 days off. ( yes I take vacation time at a weird time compare to most but I like it this way.

Was talking to boss friday and she mentioned that I really need to look into putting in for at least 4 weeks off next year spread out over the year so come next Dec/Jan( 10/11) I won't lose any of mine for having over 240 hours of vacation time. Whistling we sat down an figured that I earn 208 a year so with what I have I still would end up with like 171 hours come the end of next year if I took 4 weeks off.

not to much else happening around here getting ready to make a run to PA on the 15th,16th,and back on the 17th. not going to make york either as no time as much as I would love to seeing I'm going to be right there basicly just out side of Lancaster. Sigh

Talk to you all later. Hey Pat maybe you and I can do it in the spring. Could pick you up on the way and drop you off at your motel. ( I goto brothers house ) and then get you in the morning to goto the show. Heck maybe chief would be there too. You know laz and john will be and maybe fife and 88

Well later all

Fifey, I was rousted once by a railroad cop even though I worked for the same railroad when I was trying to photograph 4449 coming out of Union Station in L.A. and had photo I.D. from the same company.  He was afraid if he let me do it, then he would have to let others around me do it too.  Thought that was a lame excuse but moved on anyway.  On a brighter note, my company credentials got me a private viewing of some UP steam engines during the last Railfair which were parked away from the public areas.  The deal with my son stinks.  There was no danger to anyone where he was.  I have not gone railfanning myself in years but I guess it is different now than the innocent days when I was roaming all over places like Cajon Pass and Tehachapi loop.  The off road crowd did far more damage and caused more trouble than any railfan ever did.  I was even shot at once up there..

Good Evening

Chilly 48.

As expected the TTOS show had the same old stuff with the same crazy high prices. I brought home a model 1/43rd 48 ford woody,$5. And took my nap about ten minutes into the 3rd quarter of the Lions game. Are you ready for monday? It's getting closer.

Attention southern California Forum Members--

The boss is allowing me to tag along with her next month on a business trip to San Diego Thumbs Up  The only thing I know at this point is that we will be there the week of November 17 for at least 3 nights and I have no responsibilities other than not getting lost Approve  Her time is fairly regimented so I'll have quite a bit of free time.  It's been since 1984 that I was last in SD but before that I was there several times visiting friends and old college roomates, great memories of the beach at La Jolla and driving up the coast to visit my brother is Carpentiera, seems like a LONG time ago.

I'll probably rent a car and do a few "touristy" things but I would enjoy having a cup of coffee with any of you and hopefully see a model train layout or three Cool  More details as this business week moves along.

Jon
