Hey guys I've spoken with both inspectors and I'm certain the issues can be worked out. They are both really nice and helpful. The electrician is going to call in the morning and discuss what we are planning and see if that will work, if it won't he'll get what needs to be done and then we'll get it fixed. There are more issues to address if you use conduit.

Both said that if I arrange another inspection to just call in the morning and they can tell me about when they'll be there.

Both good guys!

They actually want you to walk the site with them and take notes, make comments, etc. They rely on the plans when you aren't there and since my plans aren't professional they are very lacking, especially the electrical plans. While speaking with framing inspector he told me that most of the time if the plans don't match the work they will fail it, but if you are there and can tell they why the modification was done they will approve it. My biggest concern is I want the screened porch roof to be open and they want me to install boards between the rafters... that will require the ceiling fan down rod to be much longer than I wanted... we'll see.

Well called the inspectors this morning and found out that the electrical inspector showed up yesterday! Inspection failed because I wasn't there to explain to him what we are doing. Banged Head Framing inspector said they can't do their till the electrical passes. So now I have to call the electrician to discuss this project again.

The inspector didn't like that the wires were exposed along the rafters... duh... neither do I, that is why they will be wrapped in wood. But they need to be exposed for the inspection???

Thinking about running them through 1/2 rigid conduit on the single runs and 3/4 rigid conduit on the tripple runs inside the sunroom. But want to discuss with electrician first. I can do the pulling through the conduit myself if he agrees to it and will let me do it.

Don't get me started!!!  Nobody in govt jobs do what they are there to do. You are experencing the norm. not the exception. There is no accountability at all. They can show up a day early or three days late and don't have to ansewer for it!  Now if they do show  up.....don't expect them to know anything about what they are there for. And also don't expect them to give a ***. This is a BIG problem in most areas. The only thing you can do is make sure your there when they are and try to let them know that you are watching , sometimes that makes a difference but not all that often. It don't matter if its the inspection dept. or the road dept, the school system(the worst of the bunch) or any of the rest. Don't trust them to do their job, its the furthest thing from their minds.SoapBox Did I type that outloud?................Steve

This will just be a quick one. Have to finish up some stuff around the house and then roll on up to Phoenix. Back tomorrow afternoon, friends in town over the weekend, and then off to the scope on Sunday. My boss has disassembled the subreflector BTW, and a number of the bearings were pretty ugly. Glad we got into that after all. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have a quick trip through an honest-to-god train store.

Afternoon.  Busy morning [well, almost].  Went with wifey to gym at 5:30 AM.  Came home and fell asleep in reclinner watching morning news.  Got up and went back to bed until 10 AM.  Then had to go to Town Hall for an unplanned meeting with staff.  We now have a new seafood restaurant in Roseyville.  Ate lunch there.  Real good.  Will be my meal for the day.  Had around 2" of rain in the past 24 hours.  More coming down off and on.  We needed it and turnips are loving it.  Now for the planned power washing of house and buildings [if it doesn't pour].  Later

Aloha and happy Fall. I survived a chilly evening and am happy to be at work - even though I'm in back-to-back-to-back - well, you get the idea - meetings all day. Nice ride with Brutus and Sir J last night. I took your advice. :)

Good morning all,

From sun all the time to rain all the time in SE Indiana with temps and humidity in 80s (now we have summer!)  The boys lost 4-1, and "my" soccer girls lost 5-0 (don't know how JV did, but assumed they lost as well).  Did get games in before the rain.  Went to the YMCA to do weights, some treadmill and some soccer drills.  Tried to watch "Dancing With the Stars" but digital signal crapped out about halfway thru it.  Other channels were working so it was not the converter.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  TBIL, and you can pick me up early.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Bill, thanks!  I think I did this the other day, but I will tab it and make sure I do it tomorrow night after work. Everyone else went to bed and I doubt my wife would like me running trains right now Wink  My other thought is the power supply - I found your TPC setup thread from earlier this year and if this doesn't do it, I'll see if someone has a power brick I can borrow.  I have been going over this booklet, lol - I have a whole book on command stuff, but I can't find it.  I suspect a well-meaning relative packed it away for me.

Cloudy, cool and drizzle today.  About 9 hours of rain starting at lunch time yesterday.

Brutus - I got out my Williams GP9 the other night for some run time after hearing about your adventures.  No problems running on a powerhouse, TPC and Legacy.  I was pulling three lighted passenger cars, though.  Light bulbs make a difference?  Have you tried AUX1, AUX2,0,SET to reset the stall voltage to zero (page 16)?

Laz - Glad to hear somewhere in the country shop is a required class. Shop classes teach on so many different levels - creativity, common sense, safety, proceedure, housekeeping, etc, etc.

Marx trucks got here today from e-bay.  Replacing a couple on my friend's train.  The cars are not really worth the time, but when he saw the video of his 666 pulling 10 of my box cars and a caboose, he started talking about setting up a train table. Worth it to encourage our sickness in others!

About all for now.

Howdy guys - some rain today.  Ran my new GP9 for a while.  I can get it to run in one direction and keep it going with like 3 volts.  Can't get the TPC to switch the e-unit.  It doesn't drop down to 0.0 volts.  It hits like 1.3 or something?  CW80 goes lower, like 0.7 or so?  I mean when you hit the direction button.  However, the TPC can hit 0.0 when you hit the aux1-0 combo, so why won't it do it on the direction button?  I don't get it.

Tardis is ready - Doug is about to his station and Jim said the banilla will be ready soon, so let's get going!  Laugh

30 minutes on tread mill [over a mile and watched the end of a TCM movie while walking away].  Ran trains some.  Now

Chief, walking is very good for you.  30 minutes a day at least.  I have not joined a gym yet but I walk about 45 minutes every morning 7 days a week and have for the last three months.  My triglycerides went from 500 down to 159 and I lost 19 lbs.  Of course, I had to cut out some fatty foods too.  Watching movies while you're walking sounds like a good way to pass the time.  I used a walkman tape player for a while but got tired of hearing the same stuff too many times.  Need to get some new tapes.  I have been walking without it lately.  My wife has joined me for the last 20 minutes of my walk as I swing by the house.  She needs to work up to longer walks.  One issue here is the air quaility since we had all those fires.  I see no more smoke but the paper still calls it unhealthful for sensitive people.  We are having another heat wave this week with temps around 102 for the next couple of days.  Fire danger is up again too.  Our county fair is going on now and I'm glad I'm not out there.  They always have it at the hottest time of the year.  Getting ready to put some steaks on the outdoor grill tonight so we don't heat up the kitchen.   Ran some trains this morning without any crashes.  We have a TCA meet coming up this weekend.  Only one more meet after this one before the big Cal Stewart meet in Pasadena in November which is billed as the largest show West of the Mississippi.  It might be but nothing could compare to York for size that I have been to except maybe that show in Chicago.  Keep up the good work at the gym.

Later, Ray

Laz,

We had two lathes in HS, but occasionally there would be a waiting list. Unfortunately, school policy prevented us from making bats. I turned two lamps though. One is solid mahogany, and the other is a combination of cedar and oak. I did start turning a third lamp, but it turned into a ballistic missile when the screws holding the faceplate to the workpiece decided to take a vacation. Fortunately, I was standing off to the side when it let go, and I am glad no one was in the way. That would have done some serious damage.  If I had the money and space, I'd definitely have woodshop. Shop class was mandatory all three years in junior high, and I chose to take it all four years in HS. I loved every minute of it.

Good luck on the electrical inspection.  They usually have to find "someting" usually an easy fixand all is happy.

Fife and Greg - Gotta love the  little pink beauties

Laz - always enjoyed shop class.  I wish I could get started on a bookshelf project, it has been too long since I had swdust on the shopsmith

Good night and may God bless

Laz,

Do you teach just woodshop, or do you do metalshop as well? My shop teacher during the junior high years taught us sandcasting as well as woodworking. In HS, the teacher focused solely on woodworking. I sure do miss my days on the lathe.

JIM,  I teach just woodshop.  7th and 8th graders in the morning then go to HS in afternoon and teach basic cabinet making to a hodgepodge of 9-12th graders.  Lots o girls are now taking shop classes.  It is an elective there at the HS in the MS it is manditory for all students.  I just got done teaching the lathe to my 7th graders, showed them a simple turning of a 12inch baseball bat.  They love it.  Problem is I only have one lathe and the kids have to wait to get on.  But that's ok because all kids gotta make something on it.  Projects they can try and turn are, baseball bat, egg, mini football or a candle stick holder.  Also my favorite tool too.  It usually takes me 10 minutes from start to finish to do a baseball bat.  Had all the other stuff in college, Hot metals, cold metals, graphic arts, mechanical drawing, electronics, and of course wood.  Seems like ages ago.

88,

Maybe you should do the cleaning in case the inspector gives you grief?Shock Seriously though, good luck with the inspection.

I got more track down this weekend, so I am slowly getting closer to scenery. I need one more set of RealTrax elevated piers, but I spent the money on the wireless racing wheel that Microsoft makes for the 360, as well as a new cell phone.Oops When I checked Best Buy's site, the wheel was shown as unavailable at all of the stores in the area. I decided to call the closest store anyway to be sure, and suprisingly they did have one left. They even held it until I could pick it up.Thumbs Up I need to do the work formy online classes this afternoon before ifall behind.

Good Morning

70 and sticky, everything feels damp. But sure beats what is happening in Ga.

I have no real plans for the day, going to take a walk and then maybe go to some big store and walk some more. No I do not run, at 70 I am greatful that I can still enjoy a walk. Bacon and egg sandwich, melon for breakfast. I don't think it will be enough to last till supper.
