Banks,

This fluid blows Super Smoke out of the water in terms of scent and smoke output. I don't like Super Smoke at all. It is too thick, which causes it to move through the wick too slowly, and it also requires more heat than most other fluids. Before attempting to service a Flyer smoke unit, be sure you have new upper and lower gaskets, as well as a new heating element on hand. The gaskets and heating element usually don't survive while taking the unit apart. Be gently with the screws, because it is very easy to strip the holes. While I have the unit apart, I use a drill to enlarge the wick holes between the upper and lower chamber. Make the holes as large as possible without damaging the walls of the smoke unit. This help fluid get to the element more easily and quickly, which will give better smoke output for a longer period of time.

Good Evening

Well like I said earlier, no real rain for us but it sure came down all around us. I always liked Super Smoke but no one sells it here and Bart wants almost as much for shipping as they do for the fluid. So no sale. I am ready for the thingy to pick me up and will grab the banilla on the way  out the door...S.J.

 Hello all

A quick sip before bed.

Jim, thanks for the info on the Flyer smoke fluid. I'm using Super Smoke, Cedar scent now. How does it compare?

Any body ever work on the small Flyer smoke units? I understand they are similar to the HO ones I have

Prayers for all who may need them

Long day.

Kidney stone x-ray this am.  The stone is broken, so I'll need to drink plenty of fluids like water, lemonade and light beer.

After over a year of working on obtaining a project from a new client, we are good to go.  We are trying to prevent several summer homes from falling into a man-made lake.

Had a short but great talk with Blueberry today.  Spent most of our time trying to analysis the Chief's ramblings.  Needless to say "mission impossible" will need to be worked on another day.

We have had tornado warnings around us today.  Black ominus skys were the norm.

CTT arrived today. Wes, make sure you look at page 46.

Dennis, you mean “Flying Yankee” literally, don’t you? I can tell you’re just itching to get “airborne” again. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Doug, I've seen the SR-71 they have on display at the Air and Space museum annex next to Dulles airport, and I can only imagine the thrill of actually seeing one in flight. That airframe would be right at home in a Star Wars movie.

Well, I finally made it home.  Did not get to the "Town Hall" meeting as the patients kept me busy and so I just get the run down from those who could attend.  Seems our congressman is going to just vote party line.  Come 2010, he will see if that was wise....he has been there for a long time.

SJ and RT, I had the sleep study done, woke over 300 times and so I got the mask.  Had to go back for a repeat study with wearing mask.  Then, I only woke 4 times.  Wife certainly notices the difference.

Oh Macs, I am a PC guy, but I can tell you that with the movie business, it seems that Mac reigns.  Seems the big thing is the edit abilities and graphics of the Mac.  One big problem is when the operation at the Church's media department was expanded, lots of issues in adding hard drive space and upgrades.  All expected, but labor intensive.

Fife, I think a person could make a living as a prosecutor investigating school board corruption.  It is amazing how much they control, yet have little to no oversight.  When I was growing up, our neighbor was on the school board.  She ended up doing time for embezzling.

Have a great night.

Good Evening from Southern Ohio,

It poured like coming out of a boot on the way home from work.  The curb lanes were flooded, went on five miles and everything was dry.  Work was busy.  A lot of my training requirements are set up to be renewed in August so I was in training all day yesterday and a good part of today.   My bride is working a night shift tonight and daughter is at a NA meeting so I am making supper for the kids.  Hopefully get some quiet time before I turn into a pumpkin because I need to put the finishing touches on the homily for this weekend’s services.

Kurt – Good luck finding something.  Maybe something even part time may turn up.

Fife – Why the skeeters only get the backs of your legs?

Jim – I really like the 18B.  I do not have one but it is similar to the two 30Bs I have.  They are almost bulletproof.  The rollers can easily and cheaply be replaced, and their hum is almost silent.  The 190 and 175 watt versions are essentially the same, I think all they did was figure the wattage differently.

DougM – My youngest daughter swears by Macs.  I’ve got an Acer, bride has a Gateway.  The Gateway is like six years old and still running strong.  The Acer is trouble free but the Vista software STINKS!

Jim F & Chief – How is your brides doing ?  I am still keeping them in my prayer intentions.

May God bless

Jim

Pat,

The fluid should work fine in an MTH or Lionel smoke unit.

Doug,

I used Mac computers all the way until high school, and I am definitely not fond of them. I'll stick with my PC.

Sun is out, we just had downpours of rain all around us. We got about two minutes worth.

The darn snow never has any trouble finding us though.

RT= Had a sleep test about a year ago, nothing difficult about it, just wires all over you. expect to shower before you got to work. The stuff they use really is a mess in your hair. I did not do so well the test showed I woke up 37 times although I only remember about six or seven. Not a good nite for me at all. On the plus side oxygen level stayed normal. Good Luck.

Afternoon/evening all well shortly after posting last night I went into work as my pulse was on the high side as I normally run between mid 70's to low 80's and I had 127 to 132 actually I had a high of 156 for about a minute according to the read out they got from my defibrillator today. Well just got home about 1/2 hour ago. They have me set up for a sleep study (thinking it might have something to do with bringing it on, appointment with my cardiologist, and one with my primary care doctor all within the next 4 weeks. I do know next Friday I go in for sleep study so that will be from 8 P.M. to 6 a.m. Saturday and then I need to be at work Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. lol

Other than that all seems to be doing well. off tomorrow and back to work sat and Sunday. I still waiting to see when I'm to go see the neurologist and ear doctor.

No train projects in the works yet although I won a $50.00 gift certificate to a tool and supply place here off the radioSmile will see what I end up getting with that. Or probably say see what the wife gets lol.

Good morning all, got a good report from my doctor yesterday.  My triglyceride level is back to normal now.  Went from 500 to 159.  All that walking and eating right has paid off.  BP was 122/62.  Train meet coming up Saturday at TCA Western Division in Arcadia.  Debating if I should take some stuff to sell.  Summertime is not the best time they say but I can always bring it home again.  Still waiting for a diagnosis on my ailing ACL MTH E6 A-A engines in the shop.  All the lights went out.  Everything else works fine.

Brutus, hope your wife is doing better.  Glad you are getting the right kind of treatment and have good insurance.  Tardis beacon is lit.

Chief, keep up the good work with your input on the school building issue.

Have a good day y'all

Ed, You should see the 1:1 version in operation, Wow!!. That is one of this former flyboy's favorites, a combination of brute strength with grace & elegance. Now for just plain brute force it is a toss-up between the "Hustler"(B-58) and the newer "Warthog" it's ugliness is only surpassed by it's kill-rate.

Museum tomorrow, everything packed into tubs and ready to go, may be shorthanded so will be taking a nice R.I. passenger set and two 4-6-0 passenger sets and a small freight.

Sure would like to get some of that rain out here, bout as dry as a popcorn toot. Earlier in the year they had said that the prospect for an "El Nino" was very high, nothing more heard since.

Kicking around ideas for the halloween layout, need a major garage cleanup/out before starting though. Sigh Only problem is if you look up "packrat" in the dictionary you'll see wy wife's photo. Whistling Is this a gender specific issue? Smile,Wink, & Grin

Aloha. Came home last night to sirens ringing, so we ate supper in the basement. But no alerts or anything, they went on and off for a good chunk of the night (yawn). Stormy all night. Raining here now but I think it's heading northwards and not to Sir J, Kurt, Mike C et al. Discovered the front gutters leak like a sieve, and looks like the basement TV finally died. Had a good late night chat with the middle boy - worried about starting soph. yr. next week, can he do the work, friends, etc.

Lotsa good sceney ideas mentioned. I've always been a bit more stylized because of where the layout is located - atop a rock-filled crawlspace. Used grass paper (yards of it), then indoor/outdoor carpeting. Wrinkled brown paper (painted) over boxes for tunnels and bridges. It's sure fun being creative with found-objects!

Jim and Rich, I buy hundreds of computers of all types and brands - get a used Mac. They're bullet-proof. If you have a student in your life, you can get a little discount.

Hail to the Chief for fighting the good fight! We have a huge gravel pit full of the cleanest water in three states given over to the town as a rec area ten years ago - they're still fighting who gets to develop what...

dwiemer - Funny thing about those who build schools...they seem to be pretty good campaign contributers...  Be nice if some watchdog group could connect those dots down there in Roseville.

Good Morning

Overcast but no rain yet. They have been telling us since sunday its going to rain, mon, tues, wed. yea ok. Granny will be watching a couple gr.sons for awhile today so I got a big breakfast. Eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. Yea I know can't do that everyday. Kurt, good luck with the job hunt, guys here can't even get lawn mower jobs,so many out of work they lost a lot of customers. SIL has been out of work since first week of december, couldn't even find a summer job. Boarder living next door, gave up, moved your way, found a waiter job @ $4.00 plus tips. He's living in a homeless shelter.

Well thursday it is, ease on into friday...S.J.

Good morning guys,

We had a dandy storm last evening,  Thunder & lightning, 1.6" of rain, power off for several minutes 3 times, TV off for about an hour.  Good thing was not a lot of wind with it.

Enjoy the day.

Good Morning everyone.  Looks like a fairly long day planned.  Have a few cases done and some more to go.  Also, plan on attending our congressman's "Town Hall" forum.  I am going with respect, and plan on listening to what he says, but I am against any Government Options.  We shall see.  With regard to job losses, the South east is the hardest hit so far.  I think it will get worse before it gets better, but it will.

EDW, how bout we take some of those engines off the SR71 and mount them on a "Flying Yankee" from Lionel's prewar days!  You'ld need a Looooonnnnngggg section of straight track with no turns.

Chief, like they say, follow the money.  If any questions, bring in state AG.  Certainly don't want the crooked folks making any profit out of this.

Gotta run, God Bless,
Dennis

Thanks for posting the new population sign chief!  You're gunna need to add a stop light with those numbers.  Looks like they changed the name of your city too.  You'll need some new letterhead, too.  We have a Roseville in Michigan too.

Big hail storm on tap today....put car in garage.  Bride suprisingly asked where I put the car...Garage full of bicycles and power wheels.

Brutus:  Prayers for your Bride.

Started playing catch with rubber baseballs with 2-yo and 4-yo!  What a great time!

No word on job applications.  Michigan @ 15% unemployment.

Banks,

The Gilbert fluid has a great smell that is hard to describe. To me, it smells like a mixture of cedar and pine. If you ever sniffed a Gilbert steam engine, that fluid gives them a distinct smell.

Jim - Do you, or anyone, know how it works in Lionel and MTH engines?

Charlie,

Thanks for the sculptamold tip. I haven't started any scenery yet, and I still don't have any track down on the lower level. I want to get the second level done first so that I don't damage the lower level while working.  I am just trying to plan ahead as much as possible with every phase. So far, the planning has really paid off.

Howdy guys - huffing the ol' Gilbert, eh?!  LOL - Jim, you need to turn on a beacon and we'll get you some banilla directly :)

No trains today.  Took daughter out on a date for dinner - pizza and a movie, good time Smile  We rented one called Hogfather, based on the Discworld books, a sci fi series that is very humorous.  It's all very British and dry/sly humor with a bit of slapstick here and there.

Storms expected for tomorrow morning, then I hope we are dry for a few days - the lawn is now about up to my elbows!  It will take me hours to mow that mess Banged Head

Wife got a transfusion today, but does not feel a "lot" better.  They let her get pretty low this time.  Bet we are back next week.  Well, we are just grateful that they can help us.  One good thing, we have kicked out $2,600 in copays so we are paid for the year.  We are also grateful for the money to cover these costs and our good insurance.

Tardis is ready and beacons are on the screen, so let's get this party rolling!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I got it on ebay. It was $13 total for a 4oz bottle and glass dropper.  Doug at Portlines also sells it.

I ordered some Anormal 1 Flyer smoke fluid this week, and the stuff is incredible. It is the exact original Gilbert formula, and it smokes and smells great. Try it sometime. What do you think of Flyer's 18B transformer?

Where'd ya get it?

SJ,

Thanks for the reply in the plaster cloth thread. What is banilla? I have heard you mention it numerous times, but I don't have a clue what it is.

On the Flyer front, the rough 18B transformer that I was going to buy was sold, so I picked up another 16B instead.

EDW, I had seen that video recently.  One of the guys in my group had priced it out and it was very expensive.  Unless you can pack your own rocket fuel, the purchase for each flight is also high.

You’ve got to like that German engineering, complete with retractable landing gear.
And speaking of jet engines, too bad Lionel never produced a model of this New York Central prototype.

 New York Central

seeing that its NYC I would bet Bob Keller has a kit bash of one of those or will very shortly Whistling
