Evening all

Welcome Amy!!!!!  The HO is going to be a little frustating for little hands.  Start the little one off with a brio or Thomas set and let it grow from there.

8nTruck - cool!  Hope you can get it running again.  I'll bet it just needs to be cleaned and lubed Smile

Doctor appointment today.  Found out that as far as rejection, wife's sister is 100 percent match - her system would not see the sister's marrow as "foreign".  Still a very slight chance of graft versus host but that is as close to perfect as you could hope for as well.  We are said to be looking at 6 to 8 weeks until the procedure now.

Got a Percy loco on Ebay for $70 today - with s/h it's about 81, so not bad at all Smile

Tardis is ready and it's time, so get those beacons on guys and we'll get this party rolling.  Need to pic up Don whenever there is a break in the cloud cover!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Overcast and low 70's here.  Agree, with the rest of you.  Fall is on the way.

Working on the wireless network here at home again tonight.  Weirds out and drops the signal from time to time.

Had a nice e-mail from the COO waiting for me this morning.  Paraphrased, he said that I had good questions and that it will be a while before they get everything sorted out and obtain answers.  About what I expected.  Encouraging that answering this type of question is on the list.

Train stuff - was talking to one of my co-workers last week and mentioned my trains.  Showed him some pictures.  He got to talking about the train he had as a kid that he still has.  He brought in a bag today with a Marx 2-4-2 with a slant back tender and a couple of freight cars.  I offered to take a look at it, lube it and see if it still runs.

About it for now.

 Hello all,

Yosemitegirl   Sign - Welcome  RT brings up a good point. This forum is geared to "O" and "S" gauge. I my self am an HO Guy. I mainly collect and operate HO trains from the 50's and 60's. I hang out here because these are the most friendly people I've found. Most of the people on the HO side are serious "scale" modelers. I prefer the toy train or under the tree look. Depending on your goal you may get better ideas here. I do. Describe your trains for me. I'll try to date them

RT   Great move with the CPAP machine I've had mine for over ten tears. I can count the nights I slept with out it on my fingers. It is a definite plus.

Brutus, great news on the wife, keep us posted

LAZ, welcome back,

Prayers for all who need them

Ray, do you mean there are 3 dimensional models of the signs, different from the signs Miller Engineering sells?

Hi Pat, I don't know if they are three dimensional or not but they are lighted.  Scott Smith posted them on the Week End Photo section of the OGR forum some time ago.  He lives in Roanoake so he tries to get models of all the signs there that are available.    These signs are made by Miller Engineering.  Just google on to their website and you will see them.

BTW, my son went to see the DMV traffic court clerk today and they found his check.  They appologized all over the place and blamed it on short help due to cutbacks by the state.  Meantime though, my son had to lose a day from work not to mention being threatened to have his license suspended because of their mistake.  What a crock of ---- you know what.

Fall is in the air.  It is a beautiful clear 70 degrees at Roger's Corners this evening.  The birds are singing, the cattle are grazing in the fields and in the distance you can hear the horns of the Ohio Central Railroad.  Life is good in Buckeyeland.  Too bad so many you had a lapse in judgment years ago and moved to California where it is hot, smoky and ground shaking smelly. Laugh  I don't give the Chief too much credit, but NC's swamps are looking real good when compared to North LA.

I haven't been posting because we have been busy at work.  We have designers working overtime.  Our construction people are working about 46-48 hours per week.

Wes.....only six more weeks.  I received my badge.

Rich...I'm surprised that more fire fighters don't drive off those cliffs out west.  How do they drive through all that smoke?  I have been in mountain fog and you can see anything.

Afternoon all.  Been the Fat Cat suit all afternoon.  Had ice packs but did not do any good.  Glad it was in the 60's and not 90's.  Head soaked and so is shirt and top of pants.  Fat Cat is the Kids Account at the State Employees' CU.  Here I am with my most favorite teller, Stephanie [she would always get stuck with typing my money orders for trains I bought].  "Ain't" she pretty.  Now you know how I got talked into doing that two years ago.

Now for stuffed bell peppers [had some 6" around].  I missed lunch so I'm starved.

Later.

YosemiteGirl

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, and would love to learn more about the trains, and setting up a table for my son to learn everything about those trains. My Grandfather was a collector, and I have inherited a chest full of his H O trains, of all kinds. My son is only 3 1/2, but is already obsessed with trains, and loves to watch shows on RFDTV  "trains and locomotives", and "I love toy trains" (great shows!!) Any advice from the beginning would be great, otherwise you all have a great day! God Bless. Amy :) Sonora, California

welcome but let me help you in the right direction to get the most help. don't want to chase you away but the model railroader forum is more for HO as here we are O gauge and there HO scale our trains are about 2" wide and 3 1/2 " high compare to yours being about 1" wide and 1 3/4" high and we run on 3 rails where you run on 2 we also use ac power mostly and you use dc. the link to the model railroad forum is http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/88.aspx  Have fun and come back and visit with us. we would glad to have you but the link is best for your help that you request.

Pat, I have gotten some emails about it, but nothing official from the home office.  Until I see the why in the changes, I will hold my opinion till then.

Mixed feelings about today.  I am on call, so one never knows.  Not much going on, just some lectures and paperwork.  On a sad note, a guy I have a lot of respect for in his medical tallents, had to go for rehab.  THis is on top of some very heavy issues with someone in his family.  Just one of those things that you have to pray for and let them know that you care.  But, on a good note, had some precious time with the wife this morning as had both kids at school.  Of course, both kids have colds, so, when I get home, I am sure they will be a bit to deal with.

Chief, that is a pretty site coming down them tracks!  I have some photos of a local coming down the street in town here.  We also had some film of one going by the firehouse while filming the movie.

Laz, the real badda bing club can be seen from a window in one of the firehouses where I used to work.  The place is called "Satin Dolls" on Rt. 17 in Lodi, NJ.  Your building looks a lot better than the original!

Pat, somebody makes a model of those signs.  Scott Smith has them on his layout in Roanoke.

Morning all, Lots of smoke today from the fires.  To unhealthy to walk or go outside.  The big one is West of me several miles but we are getting lots of smoke.  The whole Los Angeles Basin is probably covered with it by now.  Temps are still high with over 100 predicted again today.

My oldest son got himself in a predicament.  He got a traffic ticket a while back and sent a check to pay for it.  Clerk of court claims they never got check so now he has to pay a large late fine plus the ticket or have his license suspended.  He and his wife had to take a day off from work today and go to L.A. to try and straighten this mess out.  Bereaucracy is wonderful.  I got a summons yesterday for Jury Duty even though I was excused last time for being over 70 and having medical problems.  Nothing has changed except I'm a little older now. So I sent it back again.  Have to remember to double check before the deadline to make sure they excused me in case I have to show up.  I don't trust those people.  They never send you a confirmation.

TCA debate goes on about changing By Laws to comply with new laws regarding non profit orginaizations.  My own Local President recommends voting yes but I have been getting copies of E mails from other members who say vote no.  Have to study this more.  As far as I know, TCA has to comply with the law or lose their non profit status.  One group wants to expedite things by giving a few officers more authority and another group does'nt.  Some folks are afraid of putting too much power into a few hands I guess.

Talked to my brother visiting my sister in Jacksonville, N.C. for wedding.  They had a storm a few days ago that blew down a tree limb and smashed his windshield.  Having trouble getting it fixed in a small town.  May take a few days to get it.  Meanwhile they are stuck.  Maybe this was the same storm Chief was talking about the other day.

Have a good week, Ray

I hope I get this in before the Chief starts Pot # 11 tonight.

Ray, do you mean there are 3 dimensional models of the signs, different from the signs Miller Engineering sells?

I assume your sons check never cleared.

I became a member of TCA two months ago. I haven't received any Info. on the By Law change. Suppose I am to new?

Chief, you are right. Several of Miller Engineering signs come from those in Roanoke VA.

Here is an original and their copy of one in good ole North Carolina.

Fifey, stupid is as stupid does.

For Fifey's pleasure.

Pat, think I have seen that real sign somewhere.

Roanoke VA. beside the NS yard.
They also make this sign that is right there too.

Fife,

I think you gave Chief some ammo when you said you waved like Forrest Gump.Laugh

Laz,

I started class again this morning, and I am looking forward to Christmas break already. At least you get to play with tools all day.

I haven't had much time to post or work on the layout lately to to my job, and the Fallout 3 addiction that consumes the few free minutes that I have had.Big Smile I started college today, and I am already done for the day. I left for class at 8AM, and I was home by 10:30. I had to walk a bit further to get to class because I saw a 94-96 Rio Red Probe SE pull into another lot, and I wanted to see if I could get a chance to talk to the owner. They were on their way by the time I got out of my car though.

A cool 62 and thin clouds at dawn this AM.

Ever notice how the first week of Sept. is cool, at least it is here in VA? Except for one day, today would be Labor day. When we had the lake house, Labor day weekend was usually to cold to water ski.

Sound like a great week to mow pastures, cut the yard, etc. One of those "Make hay while the sun shines" weeks. Hot weather will return for Indian Summer.

No leaf pick up if you blow them into your neighbors yard.WhistlingEvil

Spent most of the weekend mounting Miller billboards and building signs. I do like animation and movement on the layout.

Aloha all. Hard to believe it's 62 degrees cooler here this morn than in Cali - 42 when I got up. Fixed the heat yesterday - all this new fangled electronics on the new a/c/heater - foumd out whenever it was in heat mode, the air kicked on. After troubleshooting all afternoon, turns out I had a dipswitch misaligned.  Maybe that's why we don't have as many ants and critters - they all die of the cold.

Jim, great news on your grandkids becoming two-wheelers. I still have to set-up the card in the spokes.

Here's today's question prompted by Brutus' new purchase: Why leaf-blowers? You still gotta pick up the blown leaves somewhere, right?

Mornin' boys.  Mostly cloudy and 63 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  First day of school for the fifelings.  I tried to embarrass the older kids, but they made me go back inside.  I did wave like Forrest Gump as the bus pulled away. Evil  Littlest princess was sporting her new NAUTICA outfit. Pirate

Back to painting the girls room.

Chief - Will be "rocking" at the Henry Clay Inn.

Phish - I was given a new set of flamingos this past week...purple beauties.  Go RAVENS!

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the low 70s for the highs.  Cleaned up some areas around the house last night.  Did some Second Life.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Wes Whitmore

My friend picked up an old 50's lionel steam and tender from a antique store.  I'm not sure what it is yet (Im not well versed), but I know it won't run through my switches, even when going through them straight.  I'm setting him up with a loop of track and transformer to see if I can get him hooked.

Have a good one!
Wes

Wes It might be Marx as some had gears on the inside of there wheels on one side and that would cause them to jump in switches as it would hit. Just a guess.

another question what track you running it on as if its an true O gauge engine its flanges could be bigger and in most cases it will rock a little as it goes down the track as it hits the ties but in O-27 switches it could cause it to jump also. ( second thought )

Morning all hope all had a good weekend. Off today worked all weekend. Feeling better since did the sleep clinic. They said I will be getting a machine to help me breath right as my oxygen level got low while sleeping. Infact they woke me up at about 2am to put me on the machine to help me breath right for the rest of the night ( 3 hours) but it has gotten me feeling better instead of dead to the world. I wasn't ( and probally not now) going into rem which they say is required. Will see my personal doctor on the 8th so probally get it then.

Not much happening today its a lazy day. Will talk later hope all have a good day.

Brutus, wife and I shared an anniversary with you on Saturday...only 11 years for us though.  (edit... I could be wrong about your date now...)

College football starts this weekend.  You can smell it in the air!

My friend picked up an old 50's lionel steam and tender from a antique store.  I'm not sure what it is yet (Im not well versed), but I know it won't run through my switches, even when going through them straight.  I'm setting him up with a loop of track and transformer to see if I can get him hooked.

I worked a little bit on the layout yesterday as well.  What do you guys with a artificial carpet line use for your streets?

Have a good one!

Hey guys, sounds like some nice Sunday was had by all except for the heat and bugs and mutations caused by GRITS Laugh

Got up early today for some reason.  Hung out and watched a movie with the kids, then we all went to Sweet Tomatoes for lunch - salad and soups mostly, very good.  Son and I made 2 trips to Home Depot for a new grass blower, some seed, and then for drywall, mud and caulk.

We were unloading the drywall when the kid from up the hill who paintballed my house last Fall showed up and said he was there to do his chore to make up for it.  I had 2 bottles of Goo Gone vinyl siding spray ready for him, as well as a bucket and a rag.  I've had it for about 8 months now.  I was starting to think he was never going to show up - I didn't need his help of course, I wanted him to learn a lesson.  He did a pretty good job for a kid and then offered to come back next weekend or so to clean it again if this cleaning isn't good enough after it dries.  I suspect his Dad found out he had never come over, as we had all agreed he would do, and sent him down with orders - but, that's fine too.  I don't necessarily believe in the "it takes a village" idea; but, occasionally two men can point a boy in the way he should go.  Hope it sticks!

Dennis - we are just waiting on the insurance for "GO" and her sister will come get her physical and the transplant process will start.  Right now, we are probably looking at October?  We want her to be home again by Christmas - that would be terrific Smile  Overall, she is doing a lot better now with the shots - transfusions were about every 2 weeks and now about every 4 to 5 weeks.

Prayers for all in need!  Had a nice talk with SJ earlier and then with RT, SJ and Charlie later on the computer too.  Tardis is ready - time to fly!!!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
