Hi - All .. finally some much needed rain ... cleaned the air and dropped the temps . Have been extremely busy ... met with a group of ole train guys last weekend .... around a pool .... alot of train talk until the one young guy brought his girl-friend .... a fabulously built and cute blonde in her bikini ... the chat area emptied out and you'd have thought free engines  were being given away .... I loved how they all followed and stood by the pool trying to act like they were talking to him ... watching .... all googly eyed and hypnotized ... LOL . No it was'nt obvious .... Tongue  she said " hi fellows " and they all sounded like a chorus answering at the same time with those dumb smiles on their faces .... cracked me up ..... Laugh  watching the slow wiggle walk she did to the pool was enough to charge my battery ... did'nt join the group drooling all around it .... LOL .

Good morning all,

It is a mixed bag in weather in SE Indiana with fog, sun and rain all on tap.  Watched "my" soccer girls lose to our arch-rival 5-0 in the varsity game and 9-0 in the JV game.  They play ok until they get behind and then the air goes out of them.  Our varsity goalie played a whale of a game, considering all the shots that were taken at her.  The boys salvaged the evening with a road win 5-0.  Quiet day at work today for once.  Doug M, good luck with the "move in" this weekend.  If the waterfalls are bad now, wait until the last one leaves.  Prayers going out to all who need them.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone (especially Sarah Fisher and AJ's team) has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Appears the Mid-Atlantic region is in the middle of a lot of weather.  Pretty good light show over the night, one of which got me up at 0124 hrs.  Right now it is steamy & 72.  Did lots of yard work yesterday, and plan on starting to paint the princess's bedroom today.

Hey fellas, notice anything different about fifey today...?

submmbob - Isn't Earth close to Mars this month...?  Keep seeing a shiney object in the early morning, just doesn't appear red.

kpolak - Lots of folks warned me of the possible pitfalls of buying a sailboat.  Fortunately it has been a love affair this season.  Please be carefull my friend.  In my field of expertise (Level III - Crash Reconstruction), I've noticed (and have read about) a surge in mc accidents involving the new wave of 30-40 somethings...  I do like that "invisble" analogy, especially when I hear from the little ol' lady, "I never saw him"...

Aloha all. Grey here but at least not raining - got down to 52 last night. Sheesh. Guess the rain is heading on east. Hope we're behind it. Kurt, looks like you and your bride did exactly the right thing for that sting - so says the bride who's a nurse. Ice and Benadryl - which has the added beneift of making her sleepy. Lots of 'two-wheelers' for sale around here. The waterworks has started already here and we're not close to leaving yet. Should be a long weekend Wink

Morning all!

Doug:  Hope all goes well with move.

Quite few days here.  4-yo was stung by a bee yesterday during our bike ride.  Cried half way home.  Small welt around sting area, stinger didn't come off in her.  Iced sting and swelling subsided.  Bride said it's the second time she gets stung to watch for...?  She said I need to give her Benedryl if I notice signs of alergic reactions.

All the neighbor riders are looking for motorcycles for me.  I keep telling them I need to wait a year...they understand.  I tell the Bride I saw so-and-so, and they 'found a bike for me'.  I told them I need to wait.  She explodes.  Confused  I guess I'll leave that part out next time.  State written exam Monday.

BLT's sound great!  4-yo picked dinner last night.  Grilled cheese, and tater tots.  Beacon is on.

Another long, but fairly good day on the hill. Right side gearbox oil is changed and cleaned up. Helped the boss eject a few more of the old terminal servers. He is miffed because he can't get one of the serial computers to work w/ the new converters, so has to leave one terminal server in place for the time being.

Doug - glad to hear you are loaded up. Watch out for large bugs if you try the out the window thing.

Jim - good news on your transformer. I hate giving up on stuff like that too, and often persistence pays off. That is if you don't mind the time anyway. I spent way to much time today trying to get the doorstop on the receiver room door to work. Anytime you use a mill to fix a doorstop things are getting interesting. But at least it works and one of our engineers can't make a log entry about it.

Looks like 2 trips to Roy's Train World may be in order. The place in Phoenix doing the test has to do a consultation first and then I come back for the test. Egads. This will prob put the test off 'til October, but progress is progress I suppose.

'Night all and thoughts and prayers for those who need 'em.

Don,

I was reading about the issues your friend is having with his layout, and I'd suggest removing the TIU from the layout and testing it with a PS2 loco on a small section of track. Except for the Revision G TIUs, most TIUs have internal fuses. If the TIU isn't functioning properly, pull the cover and check the fuses. There should one fuse for each channel.

I gave the 16B a layout test tonight and it worked well with one small problem. When I lifted the handle, the 322 didn't stop. The cause of that was my replacement of the original carbon roller and pin with a carbon roller and pin intended for a ZW. There is too much play between the roller and pin which lets it touch the coil when it shouldn't. I have ordered the correct parts from RFG, and hopefully this Flyer learning experience is about over.Wink One thing that I have noticed about Gilbert products is that in the extremely rare event that they decide to act up, they go all out.Banged Head

Evening All !

I'm sure the girl that has been abducted made the national news.  I can't think of what punishment that guy and his wife deserve, glad its not my job.  Realllly infuriates me how someone could do  that to a child.  Hope they get theirs'!

On to brighter stuff.....

Ray,  Anytime you want to get out of some of the heat, and current smoke let me know.  Your always welcome !  (Train room high was 84 today.)

Chief, I would recommend that if  you see any "Bubba" around keep them away from "Charlie", even though he is from Hollywood, we will really wallop 'em with that cane, if they were to get too friendly.  When you talk about BBQ, and cooking up extra stuff with the hot coals.  You can't use briquets here because of the emission.  It is hard to find them anymore here, especially charcoal lighter fluid.

Didn't get over to friends house tonight to help with his layout wiring, (Bob), will get there tomorrow.

Won't take long tonight, got some calls to make, hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.

(Make sure Tardis has extra ice cubes, and A/C is fully operational, hot out here.)

Good evening all, brush fires seem to be giving out less smoke today but air still smells bad.  This is the second day in a row I have not been able to walk.  Did do some walking inside Home Depot.  Was looking for car port canopy.  They did not have any and won't until next month.   Looked at new Bar-B-Que grills.  Pretty good prices.  Did'nt know the newer gas grills don't use ceramic briquets or lava rock.  They just use gas with covers over burners to keep grease off.  They had some grills with cast iron grills and some others with stamped sheet metal or something like that.  Did'nt look like it would last long to me.  Cast iron looked better but thought they might rust.  I guess you have to spray something on them to protect them from rust.  Second week has gone by now with my MTH diesels in the shop with no comment so far.  Called one day but was only told they had not looked at it yet.  Hope this is not a long drawn out affair.  Should have taken Don's advice and sent it to Colorado.  We'll see how it goes and then decide.  Finally got our spare bathroom work done.  New toilet installed today following new tile floor.  Carpet due  for family room in about one week.  Been putting off a lot of this stuff for a long time.  Looking forward to getting back to trains when weather cools off.  Later,

Ray

Done packing. Even in the all-day rain, fit everything in the van. Bags of shoes. Bags of bags and purses. Still have room for a few people. I will drive with my head out the window like an old hound dog.

I finally got the 16B working properly. While digging for the sledgehammer, I decided to open the case one last time. I resoldered all of the connections, and the overload indicator now works as it should.Thumbs Up All of the connections looked fine originally, so I never thought that could be the issue. Plus, I only injured myself twice in the process. While attempting to unsolder the wire from the 5-18V post, the solder landed on my finger. The second came during final testing when I had a finger on the shaft of the screwdriver that I was using to short the 5-18V post to Base with the throttle wide open.

Nice morning here on the mountain. Here comes the water (or other liquid) truck, heard the jake brake. Start messing w/ the gearboxes today. It's not exactly a hard job, but changing 4 plus gallons takes a bit of time, and you have to do it 8 times.

Pat - that ability has come in handy, the combination of a really good memory and the curiousity to see what's in some box.

Doug - good luck w/ the move. I saw a 15' U-haul pulled up in front of a sorority on the campus last week and was thinking "how big do they think the rooms are?".

Something new on the dining car this morning. Grape nuts. Under suggestion as something else to try other than eggs. We'll see what the meter thinks of that in a few hours. Oh, and I guess I'll be chatting w/ you guys on the Tea Pot for a few days:)

Another pretty good day here on the mountain. I did notice that coffee may be seeming to set me off a bit. Haven't made any for a few days. I've been on decaf for a month and a half and thought maybe I'll just try going all the way to water (or maybe just tea). Otherwise BP and blood sugar seem to be doing ok.

Managed to chase down the spare bearings and blueprints that no one could find in about five minutes. I guess I still know where everything is. If they can come up with a few more spare bearings for us (original vendor still in existence) we are game on for doing the work on the subreflector, otherwise we are going to have to come up w/ plan B. Pulled another 1000 ft of old network cable out. Found out the engineers had the receiver frame on blocks rather than sitting on its wheels, the hard way. No damage done, but it was a bit exciting. And it looks like I'll be learning how to recharge the hydraulic lifting system.  Moved 25 gallons of gearbox oil to the 4th floor (used the cage, that's why I had to move the receiver frame since they had parked it in front of the door). Tomorrow will be into the oil change and more cable pulling.

Well off to bed. Hope everyone is having a good week.

Morning All,

A friend invited me over to see the progress on his layout, and run trains.  Off I go, he's a nice guy and I had met him from the train club.  (He's the guy that ordered all the vision items.)  Anyway, he was having some problems when I had gotten there.  Had a car stuck in the coal tipple.  Finally got it out and he was commenting that was having problem with the DCS.  Nothing worked.  (His 14 yr old had previously unpluged the power supply to his TMCC Command Moddule, and switched it with the power supply from a DeWalt Drill).  I couldn't get anything to work, and he thought he might have a loose connection or maybe a short.  I thought OK, lets try a "test track", checked the wiring, found the ground from the Command Control, connected to the Input side of the TIU.  Corrected that, and the wires where able to spin inside the fork terminals that where being used.  I didn't want to disconnect all the other wires, but hooked up the test track.  Couldn't add any engines, with DCS, TMCC was working OK.   I told him I would help him get it all straightened out.  So go back tonight with crimps, jumper wires, meter, etc..

Hope the TIU isn't damaged, don't know if the Command Control connected wrong will do it or not.  (BTW I've never seen so many accys in one place, most of them never been used).

SJ, take advantage of the BLT's while they are in season !!!  Going to see about an encore here.

Also, have no idea how the fires are doing this morning, hope Ray stays inside out of the smoke.  (Havn't noticed any here yet.)

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 70 here in the Mid-Atlantic region, with an eye towards Danny this weekend.  Today begins a 13-day vacation.  Got a lot of work to do around the homestead, and a wedding to attend next Saturday in Richmond.  The fifepup didn't make the football team (a head shorter and 50#s lighter than most of the players), but after being advised, the coach told him he admired his heart, and offered him the team manager position.  He took it, and I'm proud of him.

High 80's and muggy here.  Not cooling down much tonight, either.

Kpolak - 'Ride like you are invisible' is very good advice.  I forgot that for about 10 seconds some years ago and ended up hitting a car.

Thought the guy was going to actually stop at the stop sign on the cross street. He didn't, 'cause he didn't see me (I had my headlight on, riding in the center lane of a three lane road).  Ran out of options other than pick a soft place to hit the car.  Wished I'd had the presence of mind to flip him the bird as I was airborne over his hood!  Lucked out with nothing more serious than scrapes and bruses and a very stiff hip for a week or two.  Gotta love that Bell Roadstar helmet.

Not much on the train front, other than checking the Lionel website for some estimated deliveries.  Brutus - the Halloween Gateman is listed with an October delivery.

COE is visiting the plant tomorrow.  Supposed to be presenting the plant some sort of award, and sharing some news.

Later, all.

Got home from the lake about an hour ago.  Yes, over did it again.  Movedd two12 foot section of power pole by lifting and dragging [had to be placed so I could not tow].  Then towed a 20 foot section.  Now wifey has edge for her new garden at the lake.  Towed to butt ends to behind the shelter and rolled them against the shelter.  Those things weight more than they use too. Wink  I know it is not because I'm 63. Laugh  Hey, forgot to eat tonight.   LATER.

dwiemer

Good Evening everyone!  Was a nice day as finished early, went to Firehouse Subs for a tasty meal and then joined up with the bride.  Watched a little of the Military CHannel with a program on the raid by Israel on Saddam's Nuclear Reactor.  Gutsy move.  Also had violin lessons with the kids.

OK, Time for a rant:  This past weekend, we had a big storm come through and a lightning strike seemed to have taken out the DSL.  AT&T came out Monday and checked the lines....yep, had to change out a  card for the DSL.  Then, the guy had come into the house to also check the rest of the system.  Found out that when our security system was installed, they hooked the phone line to the last jack in the house, so, if a home invader came into the house and either someone was on the phone, or he took the phone off the hook, the security system would not be able to call out.  I called the company and the girl told me they would send someone, but they would have to charge me a service fee!  I couldn't believe it!  They messed up when they installed the system and were wanting to charge me to fix it?  I DON'T Think SO.  She told me I could dispute the charge, of course I did, but I also told her that I was quite disappointed in the company.  I also told her that I had been paying for the last eight years for a service that was not fully functional and I am looking into how to proceed on their not fulfilling their end of the deal.  Changed her tune.  Anyway, they are coming out in the morning to correct the system. I don't want to mention the name of the company, but we will save that for Another Day and Time.  For those with security systems, I suggest calling the company, while they are on the phone, have the alarm activate and see if it cuts your call off while calling the monitor station. If you hear a dialing, but you are not cut off, then have your system fixed!

OK, Rant over.  Have a full day of it tomorrow.  Had to switch cases with someone so I can take kids to School while bride waits for security folks to show up.

Hope it is a good one for everyone here.

PS: Bob, take it easy up there.  One thing that should help if you do have reflux is to elevate the head of the bed by about 4-6".  Let me know what they tell you in Phoenix

Dennis,
I'll let you now when we are offering service in your area. I can't comment on here about ADT as they are a competitor.
