Morning all.  Grady [Grady White boats, you have to know his Dad], Christopher [his Dad's first name], James [his Great Great Granddad on Pam's Dad's side], Parker.  What a name.  8lbs 12oz  His first Christmas present will be his Lifetime Sportsman [complete hunting and fishing license] and Saltwater license.  That is what I gave Carter [his brother] for his first Christmas.  With that, they will never have to buy another license to hunt and fish in NC.  Even if they move away and come back to visit.  Now to change oil in the newst JD mower [8 hours].  Then have lunch with Oldest for her birthday [this past Sat.].  Two meetings late this afternoon.  May go to the lake or early tomorrow AM.  Have a good one.

 Good morning and congratulations Chief.

Spent all day at the fair yesterday, 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM, most of the time watching goat, lamb and swine showing, plus worked 4 hours at the church food stand.  Long day, will head back about noon today.

They had the groundbreaking for the renovations to the Elizabethtown Amtrak station yesterday morning.  After a long struggle, it just may happen.  BTW for a town of less then 10K population, the station served 90K riders last year.

The weather has taken a cooler turn this week, guess a sign of approching Fall.

Great News !  Glad everyone is doing well !  "Grady Christopher James Parker" now that is a handle.  Assume he will be known as Grady ?

Had a GREAT evening !  Dinner was BLT's, boy that was great !

Sign - Off Topic!!   Now a RANT !

As many of you know things are crazy here, especially economically.  Received our community newletter yesterday, just have to share this.  (Especially since we have a couple of civic leaders here).

1st - About 6 weeks ago the EPA released a report, and Cerritos was identified as having the most harmful air in the country!  The report was based upon 1998 data, and completed in 2001.  The cause was a hazardous material plant in a neighboring city.  In 2000 the company was sold, standards created, and problem resolved.   The city was outraged because the report was carried on CNN, and all local news and media.  The city did get a retraction published from the EPA.  NOW, the city has authorized a $250,000 allocation to pursue legal action against the EPA.

2nd - City has also allocated $238,000 to build a float for the Rose Bowl parade.  Arguement is that the visibility provides world-wide, acclaim and attraction to the city.  (Keep in mind the city is 14 sq mi., and with the EPA thing, will only bring notoriety to the "City with Bad Air", should let that situation die, rather than bring more visibility).  The benefit is for a few people to ride the float with their friends.

3rd - Now these next items are just friviolous, and are more an indication of the "judgement" level here.  No wonder we are in the mess we are!

- A city sponsored class, "Yoga for Baby", this is a class for babies aged 3 mths to 14 mths, and their parents.  (Chief take note).  Cost $87, meets on Tuesdays from 11:45 to 12:25, for 6 weeks.  (3 hrs).  Purpose: Reduce childs stress, improve digestion, and tone abdominal muscles.  Also, teach parents to touch children.

- Next Class, (this one is REALLY great), "Children Managing Money", (as if the city knows anything bout this!)  Class is for 5 to 7 year olds !  (Doug, Laz, Brutus, et al, take note).  Cost is $36, + $12 material fee.  Class meets 1 day (sat), from 10:00 to 12:00.  Kids will learn how to earn, save, GIVE, and spend money.

- Final Class, "Learn to Play Chess", (for all us older guys),  must be 15 yrs or older.  Cost $68, class meets for 3 hours, and will teach you in a "fun and enriching environment", piece movement, check, and checkmate, and some strategies.

4th - The city operated transportation system, (COW, Cerritos On Wheels) has 4 vehicles that run every 30 minutes around the perimeter of the city, route takes 15 minutes to run, then each vehicle set in a que for a 1/2 hour, then goes again.  Due to budget cuts going to cut Sunday out completely and Saturday 1/2 day.  I've never seen more than 2 riders on any of the buses.

Now this paper is a 4 color document, that is 11x17, typically 8 pages, and on linen paper!

With all this the newspaper has about 12-14 pages of legal notices, listing all the foreclosures, bankruptcies, etc..  I just cant believe it!

RANT OVER !!

Congrats  Cheif!!! We also had a new addition last week. A baby girl from my son. That makes 4 girls for him. The Idea of a lifetime sportsmans license has got to be the coolest thing I've ever heard of! What a great gift.

Don.....You can't make that stuff up. I don't think people understand or they don't care how wasteful and corrupt local gov is. NJ is probably worse than CA its just shameful. I think Cheifs idea of the tar and feathers is loooooong over due.          Steve

Doug,

Not to worry, our city has already designated a Chicago 2016, Olympic Committe.  Seriously !!  They plan on a visitation to review dorm facilities for the Olympic participants from our city!  At this time there are none.  This was released.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
7/1/09

City Council proclaims June 23, 2009 as
“Olympic Day” in Cerritos

The Cerritos City Council proclaimed June 23, 2009 as “Olympic Day.”

Cerritos Mayor Bruce Barrows said: “The City of Cerritos encourages its residents to engage in physical activity to improve health and wellness. As a ‘Playful City USA,’ the City of Cerritos prides itself on providing outstanding recreation programs and facilities. The City of Cerritos strongly supports the Olympics and the benefits it has around the world.”

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) celebrates Olympic Day annually with events at the Olympic Training Centers and official training sites, as well as coordinating activities with affiliated sports organizations. This year, through a partnership with Chicago 2016, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Olympic Day celebrations have expanded to cities across the country. Chicago 2016 is the organization seeking the privilege to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Note the release date!  Laugh

Good evening everyone.  Oh what a day!  Had a longggg case this morning.  Had new guy along side to give him pointers on this particular type.  Anyway, went well, or at least as well as could be expected.  Pt. was very high risk, but I think she'll be fine.

Actually ran trains for awhile.  Let the Southern Mikado stretch her legs for some time.  Not sure, but it seems more smoke coming out of the steam chest verses the stack?  I'll have to check.  It is K-Lionel, but perhaps it is another one of those reversed fans Lionel has had issues with.

Chief, great gift.  So, when ya going to adopt me?

Have a great night everyone.

Aloha all. Cold and rainy today in Chicago though it looks like a decent day workwise. Got caught in a 1/2 price pizza promotion last evening, you'd think they were giving it away for the mob scene it caused. First day of first grade for the youngest. Hope you all have a ʻoluʻolu day.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  We are taking Lucas back to school today.  The soccer boys won 4-2 and "my" soccer girls tied the varsity game 1-1 and lost in JV 5-0.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car this morning for breakfast.  Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning all from the land of "Shake and Bake".  Right now we are in the bake part.  Brush fire broke out yesterday in the hills right above where I live and the air is full of unhealthful smoke this morning.  Thought we had dodged the bullet last night because the prevailing wind was taking the smoke away from us.  However on rising this morning, the whole area was covered with smoke and fine ash.  Temps for the next four days will be 100 plus going up to 104 one day.  We are having new tile put down in a small bathroom today.  Otherwise, I would be in the car heading for cleaner air somewhere.  Hope to do that later today.  Trying to get some local news about the fires on TV, but local air heads only want to talk about trivial stuff.   Of course the national news is all about the passing of Sen. Ted Kennedy.

Had an unexpected visitor a couple of days ago to my layout.  A guy knocked on the door saying he saw a picture of my layout in OGR and would I mind showing it to him.  Well, after he explained who he was and mentioned the names of some people I know, I determined that the guy was real and invited him in for a quick look.  It was a hot afternoon and the layout in the garage was about 100 degrees on the thermometer but he wanted to see anyway.  Turns out, he belongs to one of the local train clubs of which I am a member too.  I told him, I would invite him back for one of our Thursday night gatherings when the weather is cooler.  Anyway, it was gratifying to show the layout to someone who appreciates it..

Hope to give a better report next time with less smoke,

Ray

Greetings from Mt. Graham! I've been here over 18 hours now and am doing ok. Nice to be back and not to sweat for a change. Definitely notice the altitude though, got to remember not to run up the stairs. We are running new network cables and pulling out miles of the old cables and misc unused stuff. Have to chase down some plans that nobody can seemed to find. Then start the process of changing 30 gals of gearbox oil. I think I'll use the cage to lift the 5 gallon buckets this year:)

Chief - Congrats!

Jim - nothing new as yet on the 302. I routinely admire it on my desk at home though. I am focusing on the Lionel stuff for a bit, and of course the MG.

They finally found a place in Phoenix that can do this test, so it looks like a visit to Roy's Train World is in order. Time to find some breakfast and then get some work done.

 Evening All !

From where I'm sitting I thing RAY is getting smoked out.  When I look north all I can see is smoke.  Sure hope he stays inside.  (We are located near the beach and there are some hills between us and Ray, the winds ar blowing from the East, and blowing the smoke westerly through a valley toward the ocean.  Fortunately the majority of the smoke is west of him, but the fire is directly north of him I believe.)

Ol' Santa Ana conditions are back.

Been a week or so since I've stopped in. Been busy with the deck remodel. The Sunroom now has 14 windows and the screened porch a french door. Did the door on Saturday and the windows Sunday.

Went into the train room tonight to get some drops placed and take some pictures... got the drops done then turned on power... Legacy remote was DOA... on charger now. Take pictures tomorrow, will post on SPF.

JohnF - will be two cars headed your way soon.

Good Evening everyone!  Was a nice day as finished early, went to Firehouse Subs for a tasty meal and then joined up with the bride.  Watched a little of the Military CHannel with a program on the raid by Israel on Saddam's Nuclear Reactor.  Gutsy move.  Also had violin lessons with the kids.

OK, Time for a rant:  This past weekend, we had a big storm come through and a lightning strike seemed to have taken out the DSL.  AT&T came out Monday and checked the lines....yep, had to change out a  card for the DSL.  Then, the guy had come into the house to also check the rest of the system.  Found out that when our security system was installed, they hooked the phone line to the last jack in the house, so, if a home invader came into the house and either someone was on the phone, or he took the phone off the hook, the security system would not be able to call out.  I called the company and the girl told me they would send someone, but they would have to charge me a service fee!  I couldn't believe it!  They messed up when they installed the system and were wanting to charge me to fix it?  I DON'T Think SO.  She told me I could dispute the charge, of course I did, but I also told her that I was quite disappointed in the company.  I also told her that I had been paying for the last eight years for a service that was not fully functional and I am looking into how to proceed on their not fulfilling their end of the deal.  Changed her tune.  Anyway, they are coming out in the morning to correct the system. I don't want to mention the name of the company, but we will save that for Another Day and Time.  For those with security systems, I suggest calling the company, while they are on the phone, have the alarm activate and see if it cuts your call off while calling the monitor station. If you hear a dialing, but you are not cut off, then have your system fixed!

OK, Rant over.  Have a full day of it tomorrow.  Had to switch cases with someone so I can take kids to School while bride waits for security folks to show up.

Hope it is a good one for everyone here.

PS: Bob, take it easy up there.  One thing that should help if you do have reflux is to elevate the head of the bed by about 4-6".  Let me know what they tell you in Phoenix
