Mornin' All.

Just a quick fly by, need to do some A/C preps this morning. Heating-up and after a couple of wonderful low humidity days it's baaack. The muchkin will be spending the nite with us so Mom & Dad can have an anniverasry date night. With where they are heading for dinner sure glad they are paying the bill and not me.

Jack, just love the way you can describe life's rather mundane daily events and make them sound so funny. Thumbs Up Now get back to work spoiling them grandkids, or as I call it "Parental Revenge".

Later Dudes & Dudettes.

Good morning

Tardis ride sure was fun. Some may have a few bruise's but it was a jolly good ride. Eggs, bacon, hash browns w/green pepper and onion, one toast. We had rain early this morning, not much but some places got dumped on. My back is better gone from hurt to sore so things are improving. Glad that job is done.

Have a great Saturday...S.J.

Charlie, more lighthouse pictures please.

Morning to All,

Pretty quiet on the Pot for a Saturday AM.  I finally have caught up on the chores missed whilst we were away.  Today we are off to DC to pick up the Mrs. car that our son has been using for the last two weeks. May try to stop at Catoctin Mountain Trains on the way home.

Back to work on Monday, but i am going to take off again on Tuesday to go to a Farmer's Market in Manheim PA that is only open on Tuesdays. Some minor drama at work with a teacher who was going to transfer and then changed her mind.  I am glad she is staying because she's a great teacher and now I don't have to interview. Lots on interviews on Monday for custodial positions.  I had two transfer to a new school and another one who may possibly transfer.  We have over 80 applicants for the positions. Folks are really desperate for jobs, especially jobs with benefits.

Take care,

Mitch

Howdy guys - rain in St. Louis today!  Had White Castles for lunch with a chocolate shake - yum!

Picked up a replacement screw for tmcc board upgrade - the one that came with it was a little too short due to the design of the floor on the Annie car.  I'll have to color it to blend in on the bottom though.  Company is visiting, so that's all the train news for today, lol!  Thanks for the suggestions on the window material - I actually have some binders like that at work - might be able to scavange an old ripped up one?

Nice chats with RT, SJ and Charlie tonight - although Charlie lost signal.  TARDIS is ready and I guess it IS Jim's turn to drive, so we need to get out the seatbelts boys!  Here we go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening everyone.  Got home in a timely manner today and got to do a little more varmint dispatching.  Two shots, two kills.  Kids are about done with the swimming lessons and just in time for a swim party for the heart team and the families.  Should be fun.

Heard about those teens going around the gate and getting killed.  Sad news.  While my heart goes out to the families, also goes out to the engineer who was helpless to prevent it.

George, looks like a nice elevated layout you have there.  I am sure it brings smiles to the faces of your visitors too.

Bob, stick to the diet and most maintain good control of things.  Just don't slip off the proverbial wagon as we often see.  There is a reason they want to keep your blood sugar under control.  Also, invest in a good blood pressure monitor kit to watch that.  Should you start having headaches, you'll want to have your doc upgrade the HTN meds.

Wife was supposed to work tonight, but the census is low so they called her off.  She will go in in the morning.  has to put in at least 24 hours a month.  Oh well.

God Bless,
Dennis

Jim F - I'veused the vinyal sleeves like you put paper in for windows. Cheap and frosted.

Gorge - Nice layout!

Busy weekend ahead, but I am taking a few days off next week.  Get the truck and camper ready for camping.  Put brakes on today and new tires Wednesday.

Still sunny and warm here in the Ol' Pueblo, but looks like we have a good storm building. Maybe more fish in the Jeep tomorrow.

Well according to my doc I am borderline diabetic. The hemoglobin test came back ok, but I've now had several blood glucose tests over limits. Enough to qualify me for the diabetic class at one of the local hospitals. She still thinks it is controllable by diet and eventually may be able to pull me off some of the blood pressure meds. Everything else seems to check out ok. Been a very interesting way to find out I need to eat better. The office did like the picture BTW. I told them they can use it as advertisement, "if we can help some crazy guy who works there, we can help you...". I should do the same w/ the local radiator shop. The same place that custom built the rad in the MG, made the heat exchanger for our hydrogen maser, otherwise known as an atomic clock.

Jack - it's hard to imagine how close everything is in New England, although it did take me a bit to get from Burlington to Lisbon, ME a couple years back. Great grand dad built ships from around 1800 - 1850 in the Kittery/Portsmouth area, so about the same time Essex was in full swing. Must be in the family, because both my great GF and grandfather worked at the Iron Works. Found a really good book on one of the last destroyers launched on the ways there called "The Yard". Excellent reading.

Fife - glad to hear you and the boat are OK. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Recently read a story about running the Queen Elizabeth on the putty. Don't think the skipper made Commodore of the line for a bit after that. And diving under yours to inspect the hull is a lot easier than dry-docking an 80,000 tonner:)

George - that's one of the best ceiling layouts I've seen yet. Very nice!

Jon - SD roads are pretty good, but hands down I think Nevada gets the prize. It's all gambling revenue. And talk about some long stretches. Was not unusual to not see another car for 45 minutes. Liked your story about the cafe. Meeting people on trips like that is the most fun. I've had some interesting experiences working on the rez. The time I crawled out from under the church (what I call a "prairie dog expedition") dirt from head to toe and jumped in w/ some other volunteers to go pell mell to Chadron, NE before everything closed. I can only imagine what the locals thought of what appeared to be a homeless guy wandering around w/ an oxygen sensor.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Bob

Doug--I apologize about not getting the next car to you, it will go out in Monday's mail.  I could give you at least 10 excuses for June but the truth is I just didn't get it done.  I will shoot photo's for this weeks SPF and get that car moving.  I recieved a car from Don B. last week and I haven't even opened it yet, with going on vacation and then having the open house and seeing the dentist several times I'm way behind.

Fear not, I will follow through, I hope Black Eye

Jack,

That was GregM who had issues with a garage door.  I only have had an issue involving a creeper and a steep driveway, but that's another story.

Not much going on today. I tried to replace the light bulbs in the window switches in the Probe, but I gave up on that for the day. I think I'll have to get the bulbs from Ford if they are still availabe.

Good Afternoon.

Boy, been busy all morning. I got the outside back in order so now I have a whole heap of broken bricks and grout to get rid of. But thats not a major issue, it will go a little at a time if necessary.

Five teens killed yesterday by Detroit to Chicago Amtrak. Drove around a van and the crossing gates and right into eternity.

Good Afternoon, Ya'll, From Temporarily Sunny NE Taxachusetts,

After a gestation period of 5 days 18 hours and 50 minutes, our 9 month old male Doberman Maximus gave birth to an intact and whole men's sport sock, right on the family room rug.  One of my two adult children, the one NOT living with us, nearly became an only child over this incident.

I'm with you, George!  Rain in the forecast over the next couple of days.  But the sun will insert its presence in between the showers and perhaps 80 today here also.  This is infinitely better than what we've been getting the past 6 weeks.  I'll take it.

Is it me or is Laz mia??????

Fife.....we know you won't admit it, but I think Dennis got it right.  The finely stocked wine cellar in the cabin of your ship caused an "overdraft" condition.  You must make the hard choices:  bite the bullet and remove unnecessary items, like water, furniture, ropes. gas, and anchors.  And when exiting the mooring facilities and while navigating the channel into the Bay, place the passengers into the dinghy and tow them until you are in deeper water.

Dennis.......my daughter is doing great and the new granddaughter is thriving, gained a pound last week.  At this rate she will be about 70 pounds when we celebrate her first birthday.  Big Smile  And you are right......the putrid rainy weather these days rolls right off my back!

Chief......rumor has it the infamous Wallabe posted bail, violated the home confinement provisions of his release, and is on the loose again.  Didn't Roseyville's finest remember to affix a gps equipped ankle monitoring device?

DougM......that story of the cemetary folks digging up South side graves and burying the remains in a mass grave, then trying to sell the plots......gruesome.  At least this Chicago story doesn't include the involvement of greedy politicians.  Or does it?  Re the Glock, if memory serves me correctly the law abiding citizens of Chicago are sticklers for observing the City statutes which prohibit possessing and shooting off fireworks on July 4th celebration.  Conversely, it then rains lead, not cats and dogs.

JimT......you changed your screen name!  Re the springs on your garage door that failed and broke.  That is common, but most frequently at or near the attachment points.  You may want to look into investing in some safety cables.  They slip right up the center of the springs and then attach to the tracks.  Interfere with nothing.  If/when the spring lets go, the spring remains in place and doesn't become a guillotine.  Cheap and easy to install.  Those springs when they let go can take your head clean off.  Re the Probe, the ride home can be a chore or a nice way to wind down......except in MA where the rotten roads lend themselves more to off road vehicles or people under the influence that don't notice these things.

I need some help remembering who had the interesting neighbor.......DougDG or Don.  Am I mistaken from reading some back posts, or has she returned to the hood with her pole and light show?

TGIF !

Jack

I am experimenting with the photo postings, as I am new to this. Here is a picture of my attic O inside track which uses Gargraves and the outside is G scale. The ceiling layout is made by interrail, install was fairly easy the hard part was getting it plumbed to the ceiling that took a couple of weeks. I used toggle bolts to install into the ceiling. Layout is about 5 years old. I use conventional control.

Aloha all. It wasn't me. Honest, I didn't do it. I had nothing to do with digging up those bodies so the cemetary plots could be re-sold. Ah, Chicago in the news again...

Jeez, these guys just busted another window in my 15th flr. office - and it's raining of course. So I am huddling in the corner trying to keep everything dry whilst they run around trying to fix things - hard to work. Jack, no kidding about the Glock - when I used to work on the 20th flr. of a tower down by the projects across from old Comiskey Park, they used to shoot out the windows nearly every holiday....

Jon, there's no box car on the interchange yet.  Kurt, did you get that tanker?

Brutus, the local hobby stores hve opaque styrene strips that fit Annie and Clarabel perfectly. Though they are older cars and gas lit. I believe they are LBSCR coaches originally - more than you possibly want to know about them here

Morning.  Cloudy and cooler.  Low humidity.  Meeting for lunch and then one this afternoon with the Secretary of Natural Resources.

Jon, I thought maybe I had purchased a vintage John Deere box car from Choochoo.  I did some checking and found out you sent it to me through someone so I would not know how nice a fellow you are.  I will treasure it forever. Whistling

Ken--

We did stop at the Corn Palace on the way back to MPLS, it was our last day on the road and it was mid morning--time for coffee and a treat.  There's a little mall across the street from the "Palace" with a Mom & Pop coffee shop, I ordered coffee and the owner say's his wife just made apple cobbler--coffee/warmed up apple cobbler a la mode/ $3.00!!!!!!!  You gotta love those kinds of shops, when my son saw it he said we needed two spoons Smile  We sat outside the shop on a park bench in the shade and his wife came out and just chatted with us, she's the 2nd generation of that shop.  That's the part of traveling I enjoy, I don't remember ever meeting anyone in a bad mood on vacation...... well I take that back, there was the guy in the mini van that just stopped in the middle of the highway and left his van to take a picture of a buffalo---I was unhappy for about 15 seconds Banged Head

There's so much to see in this country, I love it.  I'm not ready to trade the house  for a motor home but I can see how those folks enjoy it.

good morning everyone.

Good to see Jack back.  I look forward to his cliff notes on the pot...reminds me of the posts I wanted to reply to.  As to the yellow ball in the sky, something tells me that since the grandbaby, everyday has been sunny around the house.  Also, yes, bag balm would be good for that purpose too.

Jon, perhaps you can write them and they will send you a coupon for the toll roads...oh wait, they don't have any, ah, just forget it.  Anyway, sounds like it was a great trip.

Fife, perhaps the draft on the boat is a bit lower in the water since you installed the wine cellar!  Glad that someone came to your rescue.  One thing I have found about the boating community, they don't leave folks stranded.

It was supposedly going to be a quiet day Wed. when I posted last.  About 30 minutes before I was to leave, we had an emergency case come along.  Was a rough one, but we got through it.  Patient's heart was just in too bad a condition to sustain him.  Despite all efforts on our part, we know that the ultimate call is left to a much higher authority.

Well, I hope that everyone has a great Friday eve,

God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Did absolutely nothing last night.  Leg was feeling better last night, but hurts again today.  Wife was worried about possible blood clot, but I told her not to start count insurance money yet :-)  I had bacon and biscuits on dining car for breakfast and sent it on to "Points East".  Perhaps if a certain North Carolina politician would relax the embargo, an "extra" can be sent south as well.  Maybe I will try re-routing thru Dweimer's neighborhood.  Fife, thanks for the update on Brent and Susie-Q.  Jack, if the "saucy wench" was going after me with a skillet, rest assured the knees would be the last area she would aim at.  It was definitely a soccer related event.  Beacon will be lit tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Now - does anyone know of a good material to put inside Annie and Clarabelle so that the windows are opaque?  I might put lights in them as well Smile  Something like that window material on the regular passenger cars Lionel makes?

Try cutting strips of clear styrene and spraying them with Dulcoat.  When dry they'll be opaque.  If you want more spray both sides.

Now if they could just do something about Wall Drug  Whistling

When we moved from NY to Oregon, while driving across SD we could not wait to find ANYTHING of interest. With all the hype about Wall Drug as you cross the state you were actually anxious to get there. Hah...we never even got out of the truck? Did you make it to the Corn Palace"? Double WhistlingWhistling Some place out there in the middle of no where we got off to get gas and found a monument with a restored steam engine that was BIG! I will have to look for the pictures! Thanks for the flashback Jon!

Evenin' All.

Great day here, hi 80's but very little humidity.

Jim, There was an earlier thread on here about the frosted windows, quite a few good ideas. I used a very thin vellum and sprayed it with a frosting aerosol. Worked ok, but not easy to get a uniform coverage.

As for lighting check out Scotts Odds-n-ends, he carries a pretty good line of universal LED's. This isn't "prototypical" but since you won't be using the headlight connection how about a pair of red LED tailights on the rear coach. Clown

Museum day tomorrow, I'm going light tomorrow. Not up to hauling seven or eight tubs of stuff, still pooped from tuesday. Sigh

Are we in for a very early winter this year, my Christmas Cactus is blooming. It has never bloomed this time of year before, always late Nov. thru late Jan. Confused

Bout time to sack out, nite all !

p.s. Patrick, Please extend my apologies to the cows, I forgot to stop for a Hallmark. Blush

Banilla sounds good to me Smile  We have visitors from KC today - sister-in-law and her children.  Trying to blow up a couple air mattresses but the pump is not cooperating.  We'll get it done eventually.  I did work on the Thomas project for about an hour tonight - picked Annie as the attached car after all.  The face is painted on and did not get in the way.  The applied plastic faces on the troublesome trucks and S C Ruffey would have been an added complication.  Plus, as Doug M said, this is the usual consist for Thomas -- Annie and Clarabelle.  I put the tether hole in just under the grin, about at the chin - a little off center, but it fit the design better I thought.  I was thinking about putting in enough wires to hook up a tmcc controlled lamp on Thomas, but that would make the tether too stiff and fat I think.  I played around with it for a while and decided to just do power and whistle, so only 5 wires.

Now - does anyone know of a good material to put inside Annie and Clarabelle so that the windows are opaque?  I might put lights in them as well Smile  Something like that window material on the regular passenger cars Lionel makes?  My tmcc card will control front and rear lamps on a loco, so maybe I could use those and a 2nd tether between the passenger cars (2 wires) to control lights in the passenger cars?  Decisions decisions, lol!

TARDIS is ready - Kurt, you can drive if you want; but I will if you want to hang out in the train room with the other guys?  Mike, we'll check back on you tomorrow, hope you are feeling better!

Jack,

          Congrats on the granddaughter.

Fife,

Tell 88 and Q that we are praying for them.

Between work and the Probe, I haven't had time to post recently. Today was an easy, uneventful day at work. It seemed strange driving the Probe to work today. I drove it 30 miles yesterday to be sure everything was in check.  It had a coolant leak earlier this week, but that was an easy fix. I can't get used to driving a car with power again! I need to find a longer way to work now.
