Morning all!

Charlie:  Happy Birthday!

Brent:  Prayers for you and your Bride.

We have chipmunks here too.  I'm happy to have then out of my garage.  One is still occupying the space under the front porch.  Better out(side) than in.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the low 80s again.  Chief, had a great time at the lake last night after getting there in the Tardis.  Don's neighbor was in fine form and Patrick behaved himself.  The new electronics worked well.  Good thing I brought the zucchini bread or else there would have been only grits to eat.  A good time was had by all.  I had soccer practice with "my" soccer girls and then did weights at the YMCA.  For some reason, I slept very well last night.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast and am sending it on to "Points East".  Beacon is lit.  Grandaughter coming down for a three day visit.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Brent - It will happen...

I have been pretty busy lately.  Still working on things around the new house, as well as trying to catch up on about 5 hours of songs for a band that I'm filling in for bass guitar duties at the OSU football games at Riverwatch tower this season.  Two bands is one too much...especially if both try to practice every week and play gigs when they can.  They will be big shows, so it might be worth it.

Spent the evening removing a deck for my friend's house expansion project that starts today.  I have been cleaning up the garage so I can get in there and start building some train tables.  I purchased the wood yesterday.  I went with select 1x4" pine this time.  Not nearly as strong as strips of baltic birch plywood is used before, but it was easily available.  Jack is ready to help.  He is good at holding the screw box and handing me the next one.

Have a good one!
Wes

Seeing the "The Great Escape" on the big screen was fun. Forgot that they had some good footage of Deutches Bundesbahn steam in that one. Like those 4-6-4T's. Gonna have to avoid eating out for a while though I guess. What I had was on the level, but I think the dressing on the salad set me off again. Not that bad, but enough to say "hi, I'm here again". Looking forward to the class. Seems there is a bit of conflicting info on the web. And my case doesn't seem typical.

Dennis - thanks for the translation. I'm still coming up to speed on the lingo. Helps that I'm dating a surgeon for questions too, although she doesn't buy the diabetic thing given the numbers I am telling her. Sure seems to be related to what I eat though. I'll stick to the doc's plan until we find out anything more.

Brent - my thoughts and prayers are with you and the wife

GreenProbe - You are way right about rodents in the vehicles. Our big thing here is pack rats. We have mice issues at the scope. Still have one across a couple of the 460V connections in the Krupp rack. Would be a major issue to get him out, and he appears to be "done" and doesn't smell. Once heard of a guy who bought a muffler from my VW mechanic friend. Bolted it on his bug and tried to start the car. Wouldn't start. Tried again and sounded funny but still wouldn't catch. Got into it the 3rd time and then pow! pow! Two little smoking mice went flying across the yard.

Lemme know if you guys want to put some superconducting amps in the tardis. I can get you the liquid helium...

And as far as putting on a governor is concerned I'll share some Maine humor on that: "Governor heck! Not even the President of the United States could hold that down!"

Evenin' All.

Off to the museum tomorrow, Sigh, I'm getting tired.

Troubles with burrowing rodents ? Here's the solution: http://www.rodenator.com/ . Pretty cool, would love to get one. Mischief

Three days of running the A/C, guess there won't be any extra coin in next month's budget = no money for freight cars. Sad

Party at the Lake House!  I'll come get you all in the Tardis in a few minutes Laugh  Patrick's turn to drive tonight, Mike, RT, Kurt, SJ, Doug, Bill, other Doug, Don and all you other guys and I can kick back and enjoy the floor show Laugh on the way!

No emails about the whistle unit - will probably just go around it for now, get Thomas running, and worry about it down the road.  Sorry to have no whistle though, but I'm sure it will work out.  If I have to buy the add-on sound card, then I can do that too.

Took tomorrow off from work because of the All Star game in St. Louis - all living Presidents will be there and it will just be too much craziness downtown.  They are closing some of the roads and stuff too, including bridges to IL!  Brilliant!

Sounds like a good day to run to the DMV and do some other chores that you can't usually do on a weekend to me.

TTFN!

Howdy from lake house [really at Country Store].  First off, prayers to turn this thing around for Brent and Susan.  Prayers also for Brutus' wife.  Now, slept till 5:30 AM and Lucy and Burg got me up.  Back to bed in 15.  Slept til 7:30.  Then ate breakfast and reclinerized til 11:00.  Then did some work on pontoon and my dock.  Ate lunch and rested again.  Got gas out of Ranger and fill the pontoon and jet ski with it as it was last fall's gas [with stabilizer].  The Fast Strike [Ranger motor] is super high compression and needs fresh gasoline.  At country store getting gas for Ranger.  Now on the way back for TV and popcorn.  I see the Rat Buckeye is up to his old tricks.  Has to wait until he thinks I can not monitor the forum to play.  Well, all have a great time except BuckeyeWink BTW, nice to have SOME of you to visit the lake house this past weekend. WhistlingLaugh  Jack, .17 HMR will take care of those chippies. Whistling  Saw a thing on RFD-TV that will blast then out of thier holes.  Think it uses compredssed air.  Patrick might know more about it.  If it did not cost so much, would buy one to blast all the groundhog around Roseyville.

Chat later.  [I think everyone but Buckeye has direction to the lake house.  Come on by.]

Good Evening

Another great summer day. But a busy one. Started with a hair cut, trip to H.Depot and the train store, filled some cracks in the patio and suddenly it was five PM. Spent the weekend helping to paint sons garage. I hope everyone had a safe Monday the 13th...S.J.

Good morning all, Went to TTOS Southwestern Division meet yesterday.  I picked up a Corgi die cast tractor trailer rig lettered for the 7Up bottling company.  I also mused over a MTH Union Pacific SD50 dummy unit I saw for sale for $100 with lighting kit already installed.  The price sounded fair but I could not bring myself to mix UP with my SP SD45T-2's.  I guess I still have'nt gotten over the UP taking over my old company (SP).

Doing a few chores around the house today.  Too hot to run trains much in the garage.  Been working on the pool this morning trying to get the PH right.

Still need to juggle some upcoming events this year.  50th Wedding anniversary in November.  Cataract surgery possible later this year for other eye.  They have already done the first one.  Cal Stewart big West Coast Meet is one week before our anniversary.  Probably could fit that in.  Might try selling some stuff this year.  We will be in the newly remodeled Pasadena Convention Center this Fall.

I saw a Williams challenger 4-6-6-4 lettered for Rio Grande go for $500 yesterday.  Good to know what they are bringing.  It has no sound but has a smoke unit and is made of brass.  I have a GS4 and a N&W J from the same period by Williams.  I might sell them because I have since replaced them with MTH Proto 2 stuff with all the bells and whistles.

Pat, hope you are getting better.

Chief, watch out for the yellow jackets.  If they bit you they would probably die.  How are your tomatoes and cucumbers doing?  Where did you get that walleye fish you had a picture of the other day?  Was it sent to you from the Nawth or did you really catch it in your neck of the woods?

Prayers for those in need,

Ray

Jack--the short answer to your question about my bike is:  it's a Honda.  In the time I've owned this bike (4 years and 24K) it's never missed a beat, I do not worry about the motor--it's bullet proof.  What I do worry about when a long way from home is having a flat tire, I carry an emergency kit for such an occasion but trust me it would have to be in area where there is no cell service.  I belong to the AMA with MoTow service and it's simply fantastic and I hope I never have to use it.  The other important factor is that every fall just before I hook it to life support for the winter (Battery Tender) is that I have it tuned and fresh tires put on, I don't mess around with tires--10-11K on the tires and they get replaced plus I'm absolutely anal about checking tire pressures every week or more when I'm riding a lot.

I have one more big ride this week (probably last big one for the season) when I'll easily log about 1000 miles from Thursday to Sunday afternoon.  Riding to LaCrosse, WI for a big Honda (and other bikes) rally,  we'll have organized rides along the Great River Road and into the wonderful back roads of WI.  It's a very laid back weekend with lots of couples and seasoned riders, nothing stupid will happen.  I think I have about 6 more years of riding but when the time comes to give it up I will own a fast convertible Approve

Fife......I've been mia for a couple of months and missed the part where you acquired your flagship.  Congratulations!  How far is it from your home to go out on "patrol?"

There are rumors that plans for an extensive excavation project has been submitted to Baltimore County. Seems some one wants to extend the local marina to within inches of their property line so they can build a slip...

88 - I hear a large piece of land on the bay was condemned, cleared and deeded to one of Marylands finest as a bonus, so he could move his house to the bay.Whistling

Jack - Another one of your interesting and informative posts. Thanks. No, we never figured out what caused the blood clot. Several possibilities - banged the leg getting on or off the tractor, kicked by a calf, bumped into a tree while mowing, Etc. These things happen and I don't pay much attention to them.

RT - I am ready to drive the new and improved Tardis tonight. Time to collect on the bet and see Don's neighbor.

Chief - We will drop Don's neighbor off at your cottage just before light tomorrow AM.Big Smile

Brent,

Continued prayers for you and Susan.

Jack,

Keep an eye on your vehicles until you get the chipmunk situation resolved. They like to make a home in airboxes. I had a mouse make a nest in the airbox in the Probe. I don't know how the car ran with that much stuff against the air filter. Then, the mouse found its way into the ducts inside the dash. When I turned on the blower, I couldn't believe all of the noise. I got a nice suprise when I pulled the blower out. Not cool.

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,

Miracle of miracles.  Sunny days continue though some overnight storms persist, the perfect combo so watering is not necessary yet.  I spent so much time over the weekend trying to catch up on the landscaping.  The problem is that I start out with the wife's list, but she keeps adding to it and won't let me finish what I start.  "While you are over there......" Banged Head

We are having a chipmunk problem.  The neighbor set up some sort of bucket of water contraption with an access plank and with food bait, not wanting to use poisons that might be harmful to the wildlife or domesticated pets.  After 3 weeks........nada.  The critters are too smart.  Our front asphalt walkway suddenly developed a 6" x 6" hole!  Appears that they excavated under it and then burrowed their way out.......a veritable sink hole.  Got me to wondering how extensive the varmints' tunneling is under the front stoop, and when that is going to start sinking. Banged Head

I may have posted this already, can't remember.  But the wife had me down at the rear of the property removing poison oak.  The neighbor had tried the same about two months ago and wound up at the emergency room and then the opthamologist.  He got stuff in his eyes, and his arms and legs looked like leprosy.  I wore goggles, long pants and shirt sleeves, and gloves.  No issues.  Big Smile

Don't recall if I mentioned that Maximus the puppy swallowed a whole sock in less than 5 seconds......gonzo!  Had to keep the dog under parental supervision 24/7.  Took 6 days, but fortunately the dog passed the sock, still intact.  Dodged a bullet there because of the risk of obstruction, necrosis, septicemia, choking, vomiting, diarrhea, or worse, death.  Gastrointestinal surgery was the next step.  I never thought I'd be happy to a dog pile on the rug, but I was this time.  Saved it on a plate for the culprit son as a graphic reminder of what a moment's carelessness can do. Thumbs Up

Brutus......my continued prayers for the wifey.  It sounds like you were blessed with a great family weekend.  I hope everything continues to proceed positively. Thumbs Up

Brent.......my prayers for you and Suzie-Q continue.  So many mistakenly think that having children is a walk in the park.  As do others on the Pot, I know differently.  Stay strong, brother.  BTW, I know of no one who undertook a deck project like yours and regretted it.  In fact, wish they had done it sooner.  Day or night, rain or shine, hot or cool, bugs or no.

Charlie.......that's one nasty bee sting on the little one.  I hope she doesn't develop a phobia for bees, at least no more than the rest of us have.  There is a spot at the rear of my property where the bees had made a home in the ground, right in the lawn.  I "found" their home mowing the lawn, and they let me know I was trespassing.  After quite a few bee stings, I surrendered the turf until I could pour about 16 ounces of gasoline down the hole at night when they were settled in.  That did they trick because they were not seen or heard from since.

SJ......I am with you.  There is so much to do keeping the prime homestead reasonably intact that I cannot fathom trying to keep up a second place.  It seems that in my family there is not enough quid quo pro.  I wind up helping out others but the reciprocity seems to be missing from the equation.  And something like Fife's yacht......that maintenace is never done either.  There are a couple of outfits locally here where you plunk down an annual fee, pass some boating tests, and then rent what you want via advanced reservation.  They handle everything including insurance, and you just show up at the appointed time and pier.  No news stories yet how someone trashed any of these boats either.

Fife......I've been mia for a couple of months and missed the part where you acquired your flagship.  Congratulations!  How far is it from your home to go out on "patrol?"

Kurt......I was thinking of you and your kids this weekend, and your wonderful stories of trips to the zoos with them.  Lasting memories for them.  Unfortunately, the politicos here on Beacon Hill have seen fit to drastically cut funding to the Franklin Zoo in Franklin MA. and the Stone Zoo in Stoneham.  One, the other, or both may have to close.  It is discouraging to see what "they" have selected as sacred cows while taking the scalpel to venues that the average taxpaying citizens could really use while the citizen belt tightening and higher taxes continue for all.  Angry

Jon.......we may be buying a lot of our sweet corn from Iowa and the Midwest this year rather than getting the lions share locally.  The weather here hasn't been cooperating this year.  The corn looks substandard.  I couldn't bear a summer shortage of corn on the cob.  I noticed you never mention mechanical issues with your bike on some of these long road trips.  Is it because your bike never hiccups, or is it something you just take in stride.

MikeC......glad to hear that the leg is progressing in the right direction overall.  I twisted an ankle a few months back, and this past weekend was the first time it wasn't barking at me while mowing the lawn, or after.  I can't explain that either.

Chief.......I think Don (or was it Doug) should loan you their pole dancing neighbor while you are holding down the lake house front this week.  You could charge admission and help defray some of the hardwood floor refinishing expenses.  Dennis seems to have some time off of work and could serve as the video and sound guy, and you could sell videos too for an extended revenue stream.  The rest of us could volunteer our talents in artististic direction.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

JohnF.......my prayers that you wife is feeling better.  There is nothing worse than a wife with an active honey-do list, unless it is one who is trying to be productive while convalescing.

RT.......I don't know what to make of erratic blood pressure.  Not something to mess with.  Take care of yourself.  You have that train room to crank out!  Where have the wife's houseplants been relocated to?

Pat......thanks for the continued farmers' wisdom.  I get a kick out of those.  Was glad to here that you are just about back to full and equal strength.  Did the docs ever conclude what caused the clot in the first place?  I must have missed that one in my absence.

Spanky......thank you for being the consistent and graet leadoff man in SPF.  Thumbs Up  I always enjoy your photos.  This week we got treated to a great sampling of different brands.  And it was great to hear Northwoods has finally cleared the Wisconsin snows from his driveway. Big Smile

Buckeye......congratulations on your 5,501st post.  I don't think I will be catching your post count anytime soon.  Never tire of your posts and your humor, especially when ribbing the Chief is involved.

I was glad to hear that Laz is alive and well.  But I am surprised there is no internet service in the bear cave.  I miss his golf and  fishing posts, and  the ones about his running escapades.  And those nighttime fires and brewskies (Old Mils).  His exercise regimen tires me out just thinking of them.  His dog has been complaining about them too.

Later, gang.

Aloha. Nice weekend here. Spent it mostly at the beach. My condolences to you and Susie Q, Brent - that is tough. As you probably remember, we ended up adopting - three times. There's hope. Have to tinker with the layout before guests visit next weekend. I saw Laz's bear being chased by mosquitos the other day. He's probably nearby. Roseyville FD

Well the story is out Fife was not where he really said he was he was up north read below

Boat runs aground off Liberty Island; 8 rescued

NEW YORK – A boat has run aground and taken on water near the Statue of Liberty. All eight people aboard have been rescued.

Coast Guard spokesman David Schuhlein (SHOO'-lyn) says the 36-foot pleasure boat hit a sandbar between Liberty Island and Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J., on Sunday afternoon.

He says the eight adults aboard were wearing life jackets and weren't hurt. Six were taken to a Coast Guard station on Staten Island, where relatives picked them up. The other two plan to remain with the Coast Guard until the Sailboat is salvaged.

Well 88 as stated befor my wife and I never were blessed with children and boy did we try. But for some reason it never happened. Wish the best for you 2 and your in our prayers that you do. If not adoption is a great idea.

Morning all not much happening. sent Laz a joke the other day and got a response that he liked it. So sent him an email this am asking where he is. We miss him on the foruem.

Getting ready to goto pay taxes on truck this morning. And hope to get some item to the auction house that don't want anymore.

Talk to oyu all later here the dinning car coming down the tracks.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the low 80s.  Brent, please accept my deepest sympathies to both you and Susie-Q.  While the "Saucy Wench" never experienced the kind of difficulties you are going thru, we can definitely understand the heartbreak you are enduring.  You have a good attitude by looking at the positive side of the situation.  Everybody here is praying that you will have a good result at some time in the future.  Grandson was here yesterday while daughter was landscaping.  I ran the Alaskan Docksider for him a couple of times, but he was too full of energy to sit for very long.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I have the beacon lit for after soccer practice (if I go).  Leg cannot make up it's mind if it is better or not.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' Fellas.

It has been a very long, tiring, trying, roller coaster ride here over the last month. As many of you know Susan and I have been trying to have little ones for over 2 years now. Well she finally had a positive pregnancy test about 3 weeks ago. Last Thursday it was confirmed that both embryos were not growing and this round is going to end in a miscarriage. I've not felt like doing much of anything train wise, nor anything really for that matter... just heart breaking.

Good news/silver lining in all this is that we know she can get pregnant! So we are going to trying one more round of treatments, as well as look into adoption. So one way or another, hook or by crook (no we aren't doing anything illegal), we'll have a little one!

I did force myself to go down to the train room yesterday. I installed some more foam subroadbed and determined how to fix one problem area... now I have to remove some track, remove some ceiling tiles, remove a couple poorly placed boards and install some stiffer boards. Think I'll go with some 1x4s on edge to provide additional support. Then I need to work on a retaining wall and get some scenicing done along the track so I can build the Domino Sugar plant and get the town base installed.

Saw an interesting article in MRR about how to realisticly light a scene. I knew most of it, but the illustrations really help make sense of it all.

OH - Big news! I signed a contract with an Electrician and the Building Permit arrived in the mail on Saturday. So the deck remodel begins this Wednesday with redesigned framing, deck expansion, and footer being prepped for inspection. Once the inspection is complete I'll pour the footer and and then start installing the decking on the screened porch. Then I have to start work on prepping the sunroom floor for insulation so the sub floor can be installed. Then next Friday the carpenter and his crew will arrive and we'll start removing siding and getting the rest of the project area ready for construction on Saturday/Monday/Tuesday. Pray for nice weather for me please! Smile

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 63 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Took the boy out cruising yesterday afternoon.  Wanted to sail up to Fort McHenry, but hit a pocket of "dead" air at the channel, and ran outta time.  Hey, maybe that's what really happened to the BRITS...ConfusedDunce

dwiemer - You do get to relax better on someone else's vessel.  However, I have to admit, I'm so focused at the helm, that it helps me to forget any troubles on shore.  Just need to get over being uptight when mishaps occur.

Hey John - prayers for the Mrs!  Yeah, I'd say you are right - contractor finished job so rain quit!

Hanging on here in the back seat of the Tardis, trying not to think about the sonic booms over Chicago a little while earlier!  Hope we didn't wake anyone up!

Worked on the basement today, but just a little bit.  Then worked on Thomas - some pics on SPF.  About 1/2 way through the conversion I think?  Need to get data from ERR about the whistle control. Guess I can finish wiring up the control board to the motor _ bypass the E-unit, really, and that's it for being able to run it.  Then a few finishing touchs and tada!

Pat just made a run to the bathroom looking a little green and I can hear RT whooping again!!!  Mike and Kurt, have you guys got anything good in that cooler or just rootbeer?!

PS - WHERE IS LAZ????

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

 Good evening gang,

Ran some trains this evening for the first in a while, they still work!  Not much happening here trainwise.  The wife has not been feeling well so I have been playing nurse to a not very willing patient, doesn't pay a lot of attention to my advice.

Received an Ann Arbor box car off the interchange track on Friday, but have not had time to do photos yet so it is not on SPF this week.

It looks like our rainy season has stopped.  Could it be because my landscaper finally got around to doing some work I ordered last year?  Now I have to do a lot of watering to keep new seeding going.  Grumpy

Hope everyone has a great week.
