A big thanks to all vets, past and present.

No train activity today. Had a cook out at daughters last evening and another this evening at my sons. Did a little lawn work this morning, planted hanging baskets and window boxes and set up the fountain. It was a beautiful day in spite of forecast to the contrary.

Received this in a email just a few ago and thought I would share it with you all

Once each May, amid the quiet hills and rolling lanes and breeze-brushed trees of Arlington National Cemetery, far above the majestic Potomac and the monuments and memorials of our Nation's Capital just beyond, the graves of America's military dead are decorated with the beautiful flag that in life these brave souls followed and loved. This scene is repeated across our land and around the world, wherever our defenders rest! . Let us hold it our sacred duty and our inestimable privilege on this day to decorate these graves ourselves -- with a fervent prayer and a pledge of true allegiance to the cause of liberty, peace, and country for which America's own have ever se! rved and sac! rificed. ... Our pledge and our prayer this day are those of free men and free women who know that all we hold dear must constantly be built up, fostered, revered and guarded vigilantly from those in every age who seek its destruction. We know, as have our Nation's defenders down through the years, that there can never be peace without its essential elements of liberty, justice and independence. Those true and only building blocks of peace were the lone and lasting cause and hope and prayer that lighted the way of those whom we honor and remember this Memorial Day. To keep faith with our hallowed dead, let us be sure, and very sure, today and every day of our lives, that we keep their cause, their hope, their prayer, forever our country's own." --Ronald Reagan

Good evening all,

It was rainy and sunny in SE Indiana.  Going to watch Victory Dinner for the race.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

I'm testing new wireless router - so far so good, but will have to adjust for current network settings.  So far though, it is going very well!

We went out to see the new Museum movie today - it was really good!

SPMan:  Maj. Dick Winters is alive and well, He lives in Hersey, Pa  about twenty minutes up the road from my house, He does not give interviews anymore and leads a quiet life.  I think he should have got the Medal of Honor for his actions at Brecourt Manor and the many lives he saved on Normandy beach by taking out those guns.

Have a safe and Happy Memorial Day.

Happy Memorial Day to all.  Remembering all those men and women who gave up all their tomorrows for all of us.  God bless them.

Band of Brothers movie has been on TV this week end.  Best darn film I have seen about WWII action.  I wonder if any of those guys are still alive from the 506th Easy Company.  Major Winters was getting on in years when the film was made several years ago and some of the men had passed away in 1998 and before.

Later, Ray

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

Happy Memorial Day. Thank you to all the Vets.

Today is warm and muggy. It's gonna rain. Up to 82 degrees today.

I am taking it easy today. Wife is finally feeling better. Had a virus and it was nasty. Miserable for almost 2 weeks. I'm glad she's better.

Dining car was here and I had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday Memorial Day.

Happy Memorial Day - remember all those who paid that price to keep us free!

Doug - good luck with the gerund phrases and heroic similies, lol!  I was an english major and actually it has served me very well in my little career thus far!

Hadn't used our grill in about 3 years.  Opened it up and it started right away.  The only problem was that it was all rusted out on the inside, something is growing in there that looked like a big orange ball, and the paint is coming off on the inside.  Soooo - guess I will be getting a grill for Father's Day, lol!

Sorry the Tardis was so late last night - we were getting the Wii online and hooked up with a friend so we could all race in Mario Kart.  Great fun!  We finally quit after 11 sometime.

Well, the closet project is done.  I learned a lot about finishing drywall, mudding and now about priming it too.  Hopefully, I willl be able to do a decent job the first time on the rest of the basement.  If one learns from mistakes, I should be able to do so!  My wife told me she wants to go through all her stuff before I put it away.  I haven't been able to run my trains due to her stuff being in the way.  "Egads, woman!  That's not fair," I exclaimed!  Or words to that effect.  We have agreed that I can put the stuff away and then she will have her Mom come over to visit and the two of them will go through it all.  So, I hope to be running my trains again tonight on my little table in the basement!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Anjdevil2 ... you've got me back into watching the formula racing again .... used to really stay on top of it but drifted away the last few years . Really am enjoying it again .... thank you ! I fly a flag all year long here ... I have one old tattered - faded one put up when the Iraq war started .... I swore I would'nt take down until all of our boys come home from Iraq ..... but she's done her job ... am going to respectfully fold her and put her away in a safe place .... excuse my maybe overly felt feelings for Old Glory ... but am so darn proud of her .... makes me choke up sometimes seeing it in newsreels over the battlefields of the past . When I also hear the taps being played ... echoing ... reminds me of all the fallen brothers who gave it all so we can be here today . I know I'm not he only one who lost best friends and family .... so young ... but I'll never  forget them . For some reason God let this old boy remain .... and took some of my best buddies .... I can still see their smiling faces .... miss them alot .

SJ ... I second that .... how true ... the older I get the more I think of them ... as Gen . McArthur said "  Old soldiers never die .... they just fade away ... "

Wife made me spend the evening with her missed the tardis .... Sigh  darn it ...

Thanks to you vets and your sons and grandsons who serve today. Thank you Cuthbert C. Murphy, Yeoman first class, USNR, died 10/17/1918. Cool here. Coolest Memorial Day in six years. Going to participate in my favorite holiday activity - studying with a recalcitrant teen. Can't wait to see what I'll be learning about Zimbabwe, tornadoes, obscure forms of grammer... Wink

Good morning Y'all!  First things first, Happy Memorial Day, and Thanks  VETS!  Has been a busy weekend and starting a long case in a few moments.  It is not a good thing that I am already tired before 0700.  I can't wait to pass the baton for call.

Brent, they do look impressive.  I may pick up the NYC consolidation, but we shall see.  Does look impressive.  Glad yours did come with the FatBoy.

Don, it is sad that folks come here to share the hobby and then go elsewhere and put us down.  I have read some posts from folks on another forum and at first, it surprised me that grown men behave that way.  But I am not going to let it get me down, or let it influence my thoughts here.

May everyone have a blessed Memorial Day,

Dennis

Hope eveyone has a good Memorial Day. Thinking of those who did and still do wear the uniform. I come from an Air Force Family (dad was an officer, mom's father a chaplin, brother repaired F-15's in the first "sandbox experience"). I was the black sheep who joined the Navy and the Seabees at that. Funny thing is both my nephews are talking about going into the Navy. I guess the crazy uncle had an impact after all.

Fife - cool that you got to see the John Brown underway. I got an in depth tour of the Jeremiah O'Brien back in the 80's as a teenager. A lot of Merchant Marine Vets gave tours on the ship. One of the guys in the engine room picked up on my interest and gave me the $50 tour. She was tied to the dock, but they had the triple expansion engine ticking over. I remember hearing the whistle from time to time on the tour. Later on when we were on the bridge I saw a bicycle chain setup that moved each time the whistle sounded, but the handle was wired up. Later on the open bridge up top I saw the same chain and handle attached to the railing. Gave a slight nudge and heard the whistle slightly sound off on the stack behind us. 20 feet away one of the vets was talking to a group an he turned to me. I thought I was in trouble. He said, "No, no, put it all the way down". I did and you could hear it echo all across the San Francisco Bay.

Just realized we will have no staff meeting since it's a holiday. Guess I'll have more time to continue working on the garage. Enjoy the holiday!

Good evening all (or very early morning),

It was rainy in SE Indiana, but dry and hot at 16th and Georgetown.  Nothing was hotter than Helio as he ran like the IRS was after him (ooops, bad choice of words).  Sarah was 17th and IV was 16th.  Vitor had a terrible day with a pit fire and a bad wreck that left him with a broken back (no paralysis).  Princess was third after Wheldon who was second.  Milka did a resepectable 20th.  Townsend Bell had the drive of the race for 4th in a one week effort.  I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast, and I will do nothing on Memorial Day.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Evening

Sunny and low 70s today. Ran some trains today and spent the evening at sons house. We ate and played PS2 golf. We tied for games played.

Lake Shore Dr. still looks the same as it did many years ago. A couple of older homes too big to maintain have been torn down but no one would notice as the new homes were built to fit in.

I have word that the thingy will be running late tonite but I shall have banilla ready for whenever...S.J.

Actually saw the sun a bit yesterday and more today. Still having spits of rain off and on. Have been in the train room almost everyday this week. Got most of the "stuff" cleared off level two so the O gauge line was clear. Got my Century Club II FM Trainmasters back in operation. Finally got both smoke units to work at the same time and filled the room with lots of smoke!!

Laundry tomorrow and Tuesday. Pack Wednesday and head to Michigan on Thursday. Will be nice to get away for a bit.

God Bless ALL our veterans!!!!

Good evening all, quiet Sunday here except for some minor problems.  Got new flag for memorial day week end but wind blew it down.  Old receptacle for flag pole needs to be attached to better wood.  Screws keep pulling out.  I'm thinking of making some kind of a flag pole anchored in the ground where you can hoist the flag up or down.  Other problem was right hand door on my Honda Accord won't open from outside.  I just had it in to the dealer last month to fix an automatic door accuator and spent a  lot of dough on that.  I wonder if these things are related?  Something appears to have fallen down inside the door because I can't lower the window all the way now.  I think the dealer should fix it at no charge if it was caused by the last work they did in there.  Only problem is, how are you going to prove it.

Been working on swimming pool today trying to get PH balanced.  It's taking a lot of dry acid to bring it down.  Water is warm enough for swimming now without a heater.  Went in twice last week.

Went to doc last Wednesday and he told me my triglycerides were way too high.  Put on pills and diet before I get diabetes.  What next?

Train meet at TCA next week.  Show and tell segment will be "Union Pacific".  Even though I used to work for them, I don't think I have a single engine to show.  All I have is an old Atlas caboose and some flatcars with trailers.

Just discovered postings by Ed King on the other forum.  He is the author  of The book on N&W class A "Mercedes of Steam" and authority on steam engines.  First time I have seen him on one of these 'Toy Train Forums".  His writings usually appear in railfan type magazines and such.  Maybe he is a modeler too.  Have'nt figured that out yet.

Prayers for all the sick and best wishes for a good coming week.

Ray

anjdevil -  I totally missed the Sea-Bat post, Rich.  Nor could I find it.

cnw1995 - I call ahead with the "all hands" command when wifey and I are bringing groceries home.

Took boy out this morning for some One-on-one sailing tutorial.  He did fine.  Girls, who were sleeping when we left, handed us the cold-shoulder when we walked in... Even the littlest princess proclaimed, "How rude"...  Gotta find a happy median...

Afternoon all. Back from a long morning at church serving as video director. Having friends we haven't seen for a while over for supper tonight. That means 'all hands on deck' (learned that from Fife) to clean up. I need a nap. Yesterday was the best day - went down early to a White Sox game - tail-gated in perfect weather, watched a good game (they won), and beat all the traffic home. Hail Columbia!  Good news about your daughter, Jim Stur-fish!  Tony the Postman is Bob's (who works on that cool radio telescope in AZ) rock-collecting friend. I got to go to the Big Race once about ten years back- the track was huge.

Thanks to those of you who served!

Welcome back Brent - missed ya being 'round.

Hey Fife - did ya see the Sea-Bat information I posted for ya?

Prayers for Brutus's & Chief's brides and Jim Phish's daughter (and I know how special those princesses can be.

A big thanks to our vets, past and present, including my Dad (USN) 3 Brothers (2 USMC & 1 USA), 2 Uncles (USN), my Grandfather (USMM), and my God-daughter (USAF).  I have others but you get the idea.  Don't forget to fly your flag tomorrow!!

Morning Ladies & Gents,

Just now begining to recover from friday. After being at the museum all day and then spending some time with the grandson, who loves to wrestle and have pillow fights, this puppy was pooped. Saturday was kind of a veg-out day, spent the better part of it working on a bunch of flatcar loads that are now ready to go to the paint-shop( in other words the garage ). Smartest invest I made in this endeavor is an Exacto mitre-box and backsaw, working with that real small stuff made it very difficult to keep fingers out of harms way on the bandsaw. Whistling

Think today will be another R&R day as well, Monday holiday so the "Kid's Klub" will be running the layout all day, 9am-4pm with a new batch of operators every hour. Gotta make sure I have fresh batteries in my Cab-1, wouldn't want the traffic cop running out of juice when watching for speeders. Captain

It is one of the best things that the club sponsors, after all "Ain't this what it's all about". Approve

Hopefully the link will work: http://www.sd3r.org/kids_club_report/kids-club-report.html

Later, time to go refill the coffee mug.

Fife -- I understand all too well about "be patient" when sailing, it's an aquired skill and I'm not sure I ever completely made it.  The worst part was when we were on the starting line, there can be a lot of anger with other crews and your own, races are won & lost on the starting line.  There are a few comments that I would like to take back.......

Buckeye --

It is 10:30am and I just power washed the deck this morning.  What have you done today?  Get ur done!!

I held the extension ladder while the boss Windexed the new trapezoids, again -- patience is an acquired skill, I'm slowly getting better.  I do have the pre race on and would like to watch at least most of it, someone else has other plans ......... patience is an acquired skill.

Buckeye ... good idea on the powerwashing ... was using my son's ... he took it home ... guess I'll have to get my own ... LOL . Last summer I volunteered to give my wife's co-worker's car a blast down ... like the car wash I thought .... blew her glued on molding right off the side of the car .... YIKES !  By golly they may be on special sale this weekend .... All I got done so far is overeating and the weekend just started ... Clown  oh well hours standing in lines ..... Sigh . Watched some of the formula's time trials on tv last night .... man they're quick !

SJ ... missed ya on the tardis last night .... like you everyone here will be gone all day .... on my own also .... nothing like alot of peace and quiet though .... think I'll let the darn phone ring off the hook too and let the answering machine handle it . WOW ... I won't have to shave today !  .... Smile,Wink, & Grin
