I'm really late on posting this, (sorry 'bout that). For Mothers Day we had a BBQ, TRADITIONAL STYLE,
Chief and Patrick were mentioning something about Pork and BBQ, it is OUR responsibility to ensure they understand the correct terminology. BBQ, is one of the correct abbreviations for Barbeque. which is a method and apparatus for cooking food, often meat, with the heat and hot gases of a fire, smoking wood, or hot coals of charcoal and may include application of a marinade, spice rub, or basting sauce to the meat. The term as a noun can refer to the cooking apparatus itself, or to a party that includes such food. The term as an adjective can refer to foods cooked by this method. The term is also used as a verb for the act of cooking food in this manner. Barbecue is usually cooked in an outdoor environment.
BTW as a point of referance, we did have some "Carolina Sauce" made by Tony Roma's in Texas, distributed from Irvine, Ca.. Needless to say, that certainly doesn't help their credibility.

I did receive Jim's car in the car exchange, and track! Prety good. I also did some work on the layout over the weekend, redefined a farm/ranch area, rewired Murphy's Car Sales to operate as an accessory on DCS. (Has a '57 Chev on a turntable that rotates in the show room.) Still trying to come up with some signage for the building. (Currenty it only has a "BowTie", I need to hurry on that before they go out of business.) Also, taking an old passenger car (2434) and converting it to a roadside diner.

Apologies for being MIA for the past 3 weeks or so. I've been called into the game from off the bench so to speak. My expectant daughter was placed on bedrest for the duration of her pregnancy with our next granddaughter. So I have assumed the roll of Super Grampa, so to speak.
My daughter and son-in-law lost their last child two years ago, our second grandchild and first grandson, 6 days after a premature birth. The loss was devastating. Somehow, they mustered the courage to try again. And we are proud of them.
So it's all hands on deck to keep a lid on my daughter and to help out however, whenever, and wherever we can.
I haven't been able to afford the time to get on the Pot, let alone go back and catch up on posts, so please accept my apology for not responding to those in need.
Say a prayer that He/She gives us some precious time and a healthy child.

. Don, I'm so confused. Not really but as a noun it can also refer to Bar-B-Que as the finished product. Since a noun is a person, place or thing, hence Bar-B-Que is a noun because in this case it is a thing. Of course we're talking Eastern North Carolina Bar-B-Que here.
BTW, love your Bar-B-Que grill. Your food on there looks lovely. I need to get a new gas grill. My old one has had it. Put in a new burner but it burns too yellow and no apparent way to adjust air/fuel mixture.

I do believe the part about grillin or bbq-in but I do not believe it has to be just pork.

What I consider BBQ'ing is smoking meats -- slowly w/low temps, only the Texans are confused--real ribs are pork ribs, period. I am VERY HAPPY to see the school year coming to an end, ready to be left alone. Lots of dodging animals last Friday night trying to get home before midnight and I did it, had five different episodes of animals/birds coming out of the ditches in 60 miles , very glad to finally get to the interstate for the last 50, Saturday was all interstate with nice bright sunshine. I heard some fantastic bands Friday night and Saturday, also heard some bands that should have worked harder!
Four season room is done except for a little more wiring, waiting for a special order ceiling fan--the boss didn't care for my choices Landscape arch. comes tomorrow morning to finalize plans, I keep telling everyone the only way I'm leaving this house is feet first so let's spend the money now and enjoy it.
OK, time get something ready for the grill, will BBQ this weekend--brisket baby, 8-10 hours of slow smokin'

It is rare that I agree totally with a post, but this is one on them.
Grilling is fast cooking, BBQ is slooow indirect cooking. I am not sure what cut is an Iowa Chop.
During the summer the school buses will stop holding up traffic, but the wild life go on for ever.
You are so right about spending the money now on improvements you can enjoy. I am not leaving any other way but feet first ether.
Why leave it ALL to your kids. What's why I opted for a separate building for the train layout. Maybe a fish pond expansion and an expanded work shop are in the near future. Can you say complete deck kitchen?

Patrick I agree on leaving it but in my case its the state as I have no kids. So I'm not going to leave it any more than I have to as I pay it enough as it is every payday. (mental note need to check on that as I lose almost 2 1/2 times what my federal income tax is every payday)
As it is I have to figure what to do with the house I figure I'll give it to some charity in the area. Might do one of those reverse mortgage things when I get close to that age. (figure I'll work close to another 16 years. ) ( age 70)
not much happening today thought I had OT but thats tomorrow not today. oh well old timers I guess.

I think I will do the beans with the brisket, no one ever complains about taking home leftovers The brisket seems like a big effort (long time on the smoker) but at the end of the day it's well worth it. The princess and her parents will be here this weekend, my son will help trim out the 4 season room so I know at the end of Saturday we will enjoy the brisket along with all that goes with it. It's kinda funny, we rarely go out to eat and the kids just enjoy 'ol Dad's cooking and what's even funnier, I just love preparing and cooking for everyone.
It's been raining here off & on late this afternoon, really don't need it but it's good to keep the sub soil moistures up. Corn is starting to peak through the ground, just a beautiful time of year here, so green Took the truck in this AM for oil and tire rotation, only have 7K on it (bought new last July) and noticed the tire indicator light was on, had a nail. Fortuantely, they were able to patch it for $25, thankful for that -- sure better than a new tire.
I have the Cubs on in the background, I'm sure that in 25 minutes that will be changed to Dancing With The Stars, still pulling for our home town girl, Shawn.

Jack, good luck and certainly will lift prayers for you and yours. My bride was put on bed rest at 6 months. Was a difficult pregnancy and delivery. Two weeks after he was born, he stopped breathing and so he and my wife spent the next week in the hospital. Was a horrible experience, but we are all healthy now. That experience was one of the main reasons we adopted our daughter. Made the whole delivery/pregnancy issue mute. Lots of prayer and following the Dr.'s advice are key.
On a more casual note, had a case, won't say when, but a patient had the little bouffant hat on in surgery. The anesthesiologist noted a large bug crawling inside the hat (obviously came from patient's hair). He also had a intern working with him. I had a little laugh as I whisper in the interns ear...We get all the best patients! You would be surprised with the things people come in with. Some folks are just plain NASTY!
Violin lessons went well tonight. Trying to keep things up with the kids. They have some summer break fever as the school year winds down. We are contemplating enrolling the kids in a University of Georgia extension learning class this summer. While neither child has any problems with grades or classes, it may be just another thing to help them get ahead. Of course, we also want to let a kid be a kid and have them enjoy their childhood. We shall see.
Rich, and anyone else in the North Florida/South Georgia area: The Blue Angels will be having a air show in Pensacola July 10th. We are thinking of hitting the beach as they come in from the water and fly right over. Should be fun. I will have to see if I'm on call. Of course I make the schedule, so we might have to make it happen regardless.

Picked my son up at the airport today. He will be starting back to Florida with his car tomorrow. I'll caravan with him as far as Bowling Green.
Played magic tiles with the furnature in my wife's sewing room tonight. The current arrnagement looks like it gives her a much more friendly work space. Hopefully, it will stay put for a while.
Got some run time on the trains today. Enough to discover that the coupler on the Autolite box car I recently picked up on e-bay is weak. Came uncoupled twice. I caught it the first time, but not the second time. Fortunately, I was running the 0-4-0 switcher, which has a front coupler. No harm done - just ended up with the locomotive in the middle of the train. Think I'll look at replacing the trucks on this car.
Dennis - by all means, if you have a chance to see the Blue Angles, do it. It will be a good show. I saw the Thunderbirds at an air show years ago. It is amazing what those guys can do with their aircraft. 8 point rolls that looked like they had mechanical stops, formation work where 5 aircraft appear to be flying as one, high speed/low speed opposing passes at maybe 50 feet altitude, etc, etc.

Good morning all,
It is rainy in SE Indiana ....again. That is ok as long as it is dry at 16th and Georgetown on May 24! I got not one, but two e-mails from my Norwegian soccer friend yesterday. Also, you spend time with kids and you wonder if it makes any kind of impression on them. I got one answer yesterday. I gave a newspaper clipping of a prom picture to the Brazilian and she said she had something for me. Not having any idea what it could be, she reached into her handbag and gave me an invitation to her high school graduation ceremony and reception afterward. To say I was moved would be an understatement. I did weights at the YMCA and some soccer juggling. I edged the sidewalks for the first time and did some errands for the wife. I see where the cowboy finally went home on "Dancing with the Stars". First night on the job went well for Lucas. I had a little extra on the dining car for breakfast this morning. Beacon will be lit after soccer practice tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning all. Great trip home after class with Sir J and the boys via chat last evening. Gave my conductor friend a CTT. He tells me stories of his 40 years on the railroad. Spring raining again in downtown Chicago. Looks like a quiet day I hope. Along with my real work, I'm prepping to move three floors of recalcitrant employees and faculty to another building 15 floors up in about a month. Should be a challenge. Hoping to snag a #96 coal elevator off ebay...

Finally we are getting some rain! Almost four months and NO rain here in south Florida.
Went to Ready To Roll yesterday, bought another coal hopper, a Reading Lines by MTH, for my layout. As if I need another hopper for my layout, already have about 14 Lehigh Valley quad hoppers from the post war era, and about 12 two bay Lehigh Valley hoppers. Reading Lines coal hoppers are near a dozen now.
Tried to fix the roof the other week before it rained and it seems like it is doing better but not completely fixed as yet, still a small leak at the skylight. Will go up and caulk around the plastic part of the skylight this next time, put tar on it last time around where it meets the roof shingles.
Going to work on my H.O. freight cars in a few days, re-numbering the hoppers for more realistic look. Worked on my MTH T-1 this morning again, put on a new traction tire and glued a step rail piece back on.

Lee ... wish I could pipe some of this almost daily rain down to you ... LOL . On that skylight ... the best thing I've found for years is pure silicone adhesive .... it's the same thing they use to secure glass in skyscrapers ... it can be bought at lowe's-walmart-home depot . Just get a good clean surface to apply . If done properly it should last for many years ... regular caulk just does'nt get it . it's not expensive either . The heat or cold does'nt affect it like tar when in alot of sun or heat.
Forgot .... had to edit .... get the large tubes that you use in a caulking gun .... also ... I keep telling myself " I don't need anymore whatevers and can't help myself ... LOL .... we're addicted .

Ole Timer: Thanks for the concern. I wouldn't be suprised if they did have the Swine Flu. They both started with a fever that lasted about 6-8 hours. Pediatric Tylenol seemed to break it. Now they are finishing up the last of an upper respiratory thing, that every one seems to be sharing. Neither Bride nor I had the Flu. This Flu didn't seem to be any worse than any other Flu.
Good lord ... thank goodness GOD watched over them and is healing them ... they say it's particularily hard on children and us old folks . I'm not a extremely religious person by any means ... but I know he's there ... watching over the children ... I'm sure he'd like to thump me at times though ... LOL .

Back home from the retired pilot buddy's. He gave me a high $ great shooting pistol. That was a shock. Got a call from Jack yesterday while I was sitting in dentist's waiting room for my buddy to get his teeth cleaned. Some old cow was fussing because I was on my cell even though I was very low. Big room with just her and I. She could have moved [she was sitting next to me and I was ther first]. Too many rich old folks from up Nawth in Pinehurst NC. One lady came out bragging bout going back to NY for the summer and no A/C in their "cottage". Got to go to meeting now. Chat later.
