Buckeye Riveter

What kind of transformer do you use with BRIO?  What is the best way to clean the track?  Where do you buy a SP Cab Forward?  Will the CW80 run the accessories? So much to learn and so little time. Banged Head

Buckeye, if any transformer could run the Brio, it'd have to be the one that comes from the Ohio State set.  That one must be good at kick-starting a dead mule!Laugh  As far as cleaning track, go with the Murphy's Soap, takes care of anything wood.  As to getting a cab forward, you may have to take out a block of wood and your pocket knife to make your own.

Well, tired as it has been a long day.  Had early church and then we have vacation bible school this coming week.  Wife is working it and kids are attending, so they'll be gone for most of the days.  I am not on call, but it looks like it is shaping up to be a busy one.  I have fallen way behind on our landscaping and really must get some yard work done this week.  Just hope the rains hold off for a few days.

Does anyone have thoughts regarding high capacity external hard drives?  I am planning on shooting RAW files for the camera and that eats up memory.  I have read some reviews and it seems different ones have a tendency to lock up.  Certainly don't want that to happen to my photo files.  Thanks.

I hope everyone has a blessed week ahead.
Dennis

 Good evening,

The weather here is still unsettled, mostly cloudy with a little sun today.  I'm ready for a lot more sun.

Read in trains magazine today that they did some filming for a new movie in Chicago's Union Station about a week after we passed through on our way home.  If I recall correctly the title is Public Enemies.

Have a good week.

We've had tons of rain here in the St. Louis area, Banks.  It seems like all I ever do is mow that lawn lol.  On chat with RT - another great guy I met here on the CTT forum Thumbs Up

Cleared up all my wife's stuff and put it in the storage room - her Mom is coming up one weekend to help her go through it all and weed out the stuff that can be given to Good Will.  Then I worked on the return air duct until I sliced my finger Banged Head  And, I was just thinking - you know, I should put on those gloves....  D'oh!  So, I mowed the lawn and down in the trees, then came in and took a shower and had a big salad and two pieces of pizza for dinner.  I saved room for banilla though Smile

Tomorrow night, after work, I'm running my trains!  Knee is killing me, so don't want to do that stairs right now - hurt it in the cave again, but it's getting better faster this time.  Took Laz's advice and just work through it.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Back from the park with the youngest.

Buckeye, forget Brio - get the newest 'fake' wooden trains - they're everywhere - and Thomas also has a huge following (sans lead paint) in the wooden set... And then there are the accessories. Both Brio and Thomas in wood are as expensive in proportion to a Premiere line offering. Wink

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Paid some bills, walked to and from YMCA and did weights, watched Paul Tracy fall flat on his face in AJ's car at Milwaukee (Dixon won and the Princess was 5th, making her highest ranked US driver in points), and washed three of the vehicles.  Had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast again. Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.

 Dennis--

I have not shot using RAW but it does look interesting, I'm just not ready to commit to that kind of memory requirement, maybe someday.

Here's a forum that I used when I first got my D70s, the information is excellent and replies are typically very quick.

Just picked up a Mac Book Pro this afternoon, will probably pick up Aperture this fall when it turns cold.  This is my first lap top and it's something I've wanted for quite a while plus a very nice educator discount helped AND a FREE iTouch, life is good Thumbs Up

Howdy.  Back from the lake.  Late trip home.  Lots of family visitors today.  Chatted with Shake and Bake and Jon on the way home.  Shake and Bake is having computer problems.  He will check us out tomorrow or so.  Jon, that is an outstanding blown glass ornament.  Real tired so will not post too much.  Did read through.  Glad to see the new guys still contributing.  Sir J, I have told you. GRITS!!!  Just will not listen to the wise old Chief.  Whistling  Sleep tight all.

Sunny and high 80's here.

Got some yard work done, replaced a light switch - the switch was not the problem, it was the way it was installed - changed th oil in the Aspen, and reclinerized.

Seayakbilll - welcome.

CNW1995 - I got you beat on spending.  I spent several times that on Friday for a couple of new set of tools.  Got approval signatures and everything.

Seacost - I grew up in Michigan.  Summer was usually the last three days of July and the first two of August.  Sounds similar to where you are too.

Buckeye - one of our trips today was to K-Mart.  I noticed a selection of Thomas the Tank Engine family steam emgines in the mark down rack..  They should run on Brio track.  Want to do some remote shopping?

Brutus - I know the feeling and have lots of scars from those 'I'd better watch it in case this (screwdriver, knife, saw, etc) slips' situations.

Stopped at the hobby shop Saturday and yaked for a bit.  The owner sent the store copy of the Volume 2 MTH catalog home with me - he knows that I'm likely to order something.  The GM Areo Train caught my eye.  Help. Can anybody out there come up with a reason for me not to order one?

Back to work tomorrow.  Wonder what GM will come up with, and how it will affect our build schedule for the rest of the summer.  I often wonder if the government truly understand how much business really depends on the automotive industry........

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and possibly rainy in SE Indiana today.  I had biscuits and sausages today on the dining car for breakfast.  Jim, I am glad you drove the Tardis last night.  I was more tired than I thought from all the work on the cars.  Beacon is lit for tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

I've had the MTH Aero Train (PS 2) for several years and it's a cool train plus the sound w/announcements is great.  Every time I have that train on the track I'm always surprised with my visitors comments, they love it.  It's just a unique train.

Morning all. Rainy and grey here in Chicago. John, yep, they've been filming 'Public Enemies' - about John Dillinger (featuring Johnny Depp) all around the area - including out by us in Elgin. (seems atmospheric of the 30s - a buddy was an extra).  8ntruck, get the Aerotrain, pretend it's helping GM. WinkAbout 1/3 of the layout space cleared off - got another area to do - then just quick-resetting the track so I can run again whilst pondering a different arrangemetn - that's half the fun! (I used to have about 29 by 14 - It's going down to 14 by 14...still a good size)

Good Morning from the Heartlands where it's raining with thunder, looks like a very wet week.  Here it is June 1, where did spring go?

Three weeks from today I'll be waking up in the Black Hills of South Dakota with my youngest son/riding partner.  We'll be riding the bikes out from St. Paul where he lives and we'll take about 5-6 days just exploring the area, I haven't been there for at least 25 years so this should be fun.  I hope this isn't our last trip as he's getting married in November, oh well, it's been FUN!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny, 65 degrees. Going up to 83 today with mostly sunshine. It looks like a beautiful day. ( Weather wise)

Well, today is a day ,that I never thought, I would see.  All I can say is that I drive a Chevy, always have and always will.

I am running a few errands today and doing the usual chores around the house.  No train time today.

Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Good morning

Wow overcast and chilly, 68 in the house right now. I guess the furnace will be turned back on.  Don't need this dampness. Chief one thing I know I don't need is a bowl of sand tumbling around in  my innards. Enjoy June 1st and I hope it's nicer where you are...S.J.

 Good Morning All

Layed some more track on the second level yesterday, using the K-Line O Gauge Super Snap Track. Bought a bunch on the bay a year or so ago so just now get around to using it which included 072 curves so the Shay will be able to navigate the curves. The section completed passes over 2 bridges, the American Flyer Postwar black trestle and the Lionel modern Hells Gate trestle.

Yesterday afternoon turned out pretty nice in Central Ohio so the grandkids spent some time in the pool. It has to get a bit warmer before I dip my toes in the pool.

Help. Can anybody out there come up with a reason for me not to order one?

Nope, go for it, hopefully a Union Pacific City of Las Vegas version will show up in the next MTH catalog. A very unique passenger train that stands out from all other passenger trains. Actually probably a good thing that the UP wasn't in this catalog, train budget got wiped out from this catalog.

Morning all.  Chucky [Toots] I've always driven a GM truck.  Wifey like to jump around on brands of vehicles.  Her $$$.  Wifey calls and wakes me up at 7:30 AM.  Lucy and Burg dead asleep too.  All tired from hard weekend at the lake.  Had to jump up and carry Lucy to groomers in neighboring town.  Out the door to service lawnmower and change blades.  Mow grass and then go to County Commissioners.  Town Board tonight.  Should be getting a box from Choochoo at anytime.  Hope all have a great week.  God bless all [and make SJ well].

PS: now hear this!!!  I ordered a new MTH NS diesel from new catalog [Miss Edna added it in to her order].  Yes, a MTH engine.

Clear with high in the 70's today in Central Virginia. Sorry Jon, Mike C and Doug.

Consistency wins at NASCAR! The 48 has won two points races but is in 3rd place. Number 14 has not won a points race but is in 1st place in the standings. Thumbs Up

Banks - Are you a farmer? What do you do with the hay you put up?

Got to cut the grass again (Yard not pastures). Every 5 days this time of year.Sigh Then clean the Maple forest growing in the gutters. Not much time left for trains this time of year.

Brutus - Light is on. Looking forward to a relaxing ride (and NOT on a treadmillLaugh).

Hi Chief, glad you finally stepped up to a good train.  Just kidding.  I hope it works well for you.  If it does you will be happy you got it.  I have nothing but MTH and I'm a fan. I do have two Lionel TMCC engines but I have no Lionel system to run them except in conventional.  Do you have DCS controls or just TMCC or both?  I'm still kicking myself for not buying an MTH Southern E8 A-B-A that sold recently on the OGR buy/sell section.  They are hard to find.  Made in 2002.  Have a good week,

I'm back from the north.  Saw some hens and small Jake, nothing I care to shoot at.  Now have 5-6 different bears working the property.  Had my trusty .44 on my hip all weekend.  I also had to deal with a pesky beaver that keeps blocking up a culvert.  So far I am winning :)

Charlie, you still got away.  That is the good thing.

SP, got both systems [well, DCS and Legacy with old TMCC control base and two CAB1's].  They work great.

Submmbob .... I acquired a fascination for those Williams Cab Forwards ... bought 3 of them so far . Have to change the numbers on 2 of them on the Southern Pacific line . 1 will be easy ... only 1 number to change on the second .... not the other .... # 3 .... will have to change about all of them .  Thinking of completely weathering one also .

Hi Chuck .... got my thrill on the hills ... we went to the mountains for a few days ... deep in West Virginia ... I have to admit that song ... Almost Heaven ... surely is true ... so beautiful and clean ! Great mountain folk and fantastic food .

Hope to catch the Tardis tonight  .... was'nt one way up there .  Glad I took the GPS ... unplanned route as deep as we could get in ... just kept going . Then stopped to eat and spend the night .... have'nt done that for years .... but the wife and I decided to do it alot more .

Another nice day on the hill. Got up early so I could hike down to the old Mt. Graham Mill site before I came on shift. Not a whole lot left, but saw a couple boilers and an engine. Will have to go again when I remember to bring the cameraBanged Head

Ole Timer - I've stood next to 4294 several times and it is an impressive site. They seem a combination between a rocket ship and a steam locomotive, I just love it. Good ol' American ingenuity, when you need something, just build it. Can you show us a shot of a triple header some time?

Woke up to one of my old radio alarms hearing about GM. My grandfather went to the GM tech school in the 30's and great-grandfather was a boilermaker for the plant (the best of both worlds - GM steam engines). I've driven and owned just about everything and I think all makes have their good ones and bad ones, but I have a soft spot for GM. I also own one of the most unusual vehicles made by GM - a Covair FC. Oh, and the oldest vehicle which still makes the run up the mountain from Tucson - '92 Blazer.

Got a lot of good input on the swicher. Thanks again to those responded. I'll probably opt for a new 0-4-0 when the funds permit. I after the hike I think I need to invest in a new pair of hiking boots first. After so many years of wearing decent work boots, my feet no longer tolerate jungle boots. It will be an interesting quandry if I see an 0-4-0 at the show this weekendBig Smile

Banks - glad to hear your niece is doing better. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Wish me luck, I'm putting together the readings for the service on Thursday. Hope I don't get excommunicated.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Bob

High 80's high humidity, wind from the south east, thunderstorms popping up in the north west.  Hope it stays dry for my wife's summer reading program on the library lawn Wednesday.

CNW1995 - 'helping GM'  I like that one.  You won't mind if I use it, will you?

MTH vs Lionel - I have a few pieces of MTH rolling stock, but  no locomotives.  I like the few pieces that have aquired.

1962 vintage Lionel trucks - does anybody know if knuckle springs are available?

Submmbob .... if I figure out the best wat to change those dummy front couplers to scale size ... may have to take some and dremel them to fit over and cover ??? I wish he would have included a set for them ... Williams .... like other manufacturers did .

Don't feel bad about not bringing the camera on that trip ... forgot mine this weekend .... Clown
