Fifey ... bust all those poachers/spotlighters you can please ... we keep finding dead deer with only the quarters cut off ... sometimes just the rears .... hate those guys ! They kill anything ... including does and fawns ..... And could'nt you accidently step on them a bit when they're down and cuffed ? If ya need a witness they kicked at you or tried to attack you .... I was there and saw it all .... LOL .
Buckeye,
Sorry that I haven't replied to your email yet. I'll work on it next.
Chief,
Have you done any fishing lately? I have had unbelievable luck with wax worms this season. I love the baitcasting reel I bought last week. However, I learned that it is very important to stop the spool with your thumb before the bait hits the water. I had two nice messes due to not stopping it.
Welcome George!! Hello all. Grey and warm here all day. Busy doing everything but work it seems. Prepping for daughter's graduation, met with a friend who's son is going through what mine did a few months ago to encourage him. Helped at a video shoot at church, they pulled me on the other side of the camera to be 'guy choking on a doughnut' - had to do it six times. LOL. Buckeye's photo website is the highlight of my day when updated. Almost TGIF...

Jim, those are called "birds nests" and they make a tool to get them out quickly. Find an old experienced fisherman, like me or an old one, like the Chief and let them show you how to get them out. It is not that hard with the right tool. Also, ask someone to show you how to set the drag properly and you can minmize the problems.

Evening. Big surprise. Grandson and Youngest came to town. We met them at the big mall. Went to dinner as Grandson wanted Granddaddy Frank to eat with him. They spent most of the day at Grandmother Lucy's work. Yes he calls Pam Grandmother Lucy because of little Lucy [he loves]. He is not old enough to realize that Grandmother Lucy is nicknamed Lucy from I Love Lucy as whe can get into more things like Lucy use to.
George, Welcome to the forum and the "Pot". Stay with us. It is really nice to see so many new faces. Folks just keep dropping in and becoming regulars.
Jim, it is called backlashes. I have had a lot in my life time. Especially if you set the spool to throw for maxium distance and suddenly cast into the wind. Seems old Buckeye has to use a pick to get his out. Me, I can work them out by hand. Just have to look and study. Comes with experience and you still get them.
Shake and Bake has not posted because I got on his case about posting and getting permission from me.
Well, lots of work to do tomorrow at Town Hall before going to lake house. Got part for making pontoon boat better and safer.
Later.

Chuck ... thanks buddy !
Backlashes = nightmares ..... I usually cut and wasted alot of line from them .... no patience . Stopped using level wind reels because of them ... . Only have one of that type on an old deep sea rod .... if my boys did'nt take it ...
Bought yet another Wiliams Cab Forward today .... gotta stop that .... that makes 3 of them ....
Good night on the tardis .... enjoyed it guys !
SJ ... the banilla was great !
Great talking to you Charlie and Brutus .... I'll have the light on this weekend ... everybody be careful out there .... want to see all of you back here after the weekend safe and sound !
Pat .... have been keeping an eye out for you ... hopeing to see you there !
Doug/CNW ... did you eat all 6 of the donuts ? Hope they gave you some coffee ... LOL .
Thanks again for your help.
I spent about half an hour getting each backlash out. Definite eye test. My friend got mad and cut his out. I'd rather pick them out instead of having to respool. I figured I'd practice as I am considering switching to FireLine, and it is too expensive to waste. If you are ever in SW PA or WV, contact me. I am always ready to go fishing, and I always keep my gear in the Sunfire so that I can go whenever I get the opportunity.
We had very heavy rain today, so I spent some time cleaning the 3444 Animated Gondola that I just bought. It really cleaned up well, and It has a crisp, complete box and instruction sheet.
Welcome Seacoast!
Spent today in Hannibal, MO learning about Mark Twain and seeing various historical sites including the cave that was the "model" for the one in Tom Sawyer. My son and I had a good time, which was the main thing. I took some pics of photographs they had of an old depot and trains, but apparently the depot has been gone for about 50 years? Burlington Route. There was a train store, but somehow it was not on the schedule for the school trip? My wife went back to work today and seems to be feeling better, so that's a good thing Found out our son's braces will cost about $4,700 - yikes! That's AFTER insurance.
Tardis is ready and Patrick, you can drive any time you want, lol! I see a lot of beacons and porch lights, too - hope you are ready, Freddy! Banilla would be good, but I am also going to bring some chips and stuff - sometimes I want salty and sometimes sweet
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good luck Charlie.
Jim, will keep that in mind. Would love to "hook up" and fish with you.
Just finished long conversation with Shake and Bake and then the OLD retired band teacher in I0way. Great guys.
Brutus, hope all is OK with wife. Still on my prayer list. Braces, OUCH!!!! Get the tiny rubber bands and save them to put over couplers that pop open. Wow, could buy lots of trains with that "dough".
Off to bed. Good night to the "pilot" and "passengers".
We saw the sun for a few minutes here today! Hopefully it will dry out for a few days.
I discovered tonight that subjects here on the Coffee Pot make more sense if I find my last post and start reading the new ones - especially when I've not checked in for a day or two.
The plant made it through May and orders look to be holding for June - except for the extended July 4 shutdown. Wrote purchase requisitions today to tool up two new part numbers that start production in about a year - more encouraging news. Still wonder what GM will end up doing.....
About the only train activity recently has been reading the latest CTT that came in the mail Tuesday. I've got some photos to download for SPF and will try to take a few more of the new arrivals.
Later all.
Hello all,
Foggy morning here after last nights storms. Predicted to clear this afternoon with a nice but cool weekend. Been really hoping for some hay making weather.
Wife and I are going to watch the Grandkids this evening so there'll be some trains run.
To much spring time activity limits my time here but I've been trying to keep up. I may have missed some.
Good to hear that Chief's wife and Brutus' wife are improving. As well as Phish's daughter.
Prayer will continue

Mornin' boys. Damp and 64 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Amazingly, the lawn is still manageable. Honey-do's, boat, honey-do's, boat...my butt is goin to be in a sling real quick.

Ole Timer -
Morning Boys!! Raining here this am,doesn't look good for cutting grass or opening pool. The sante fe has gotten to the point I don't trust it so I fired up the old work truck to take daughter to school(16' box body isuzu cab over). Daughter was MORTIFIED to have to arrive in such a rig. She needs to come back down to earth, guess we spoiled her.
Jim: Hang in there. You'll get the hang of using the conventional reel. Its all practice and as Chief says you will still get birds nests from time to time. Steve
Good Friday Morning from the Heartlands! There's a strange orange object in the sky to the east, we really need Mr. Sun to stick around for an extended stay as we've had too much rain during these last two weeks.
Had a real tough day yesterday. Participated in a funeral of a young Navy man, parents should never have to bury a child, just breaks my heart but sadly that's sometimes the price we have to pay for freedom.
The day did end well though, that old Geezer from Caroliner called and we solved a few of the worlds pressing issues. Someday I am going to make the ultimate road trip and stop and visit most of the posters on this forum and that needs to happen sooner than later. My wife and her three sisters are planning a major trip to Norway in about a year, I think that would the perfect opportunity for me to load up the bike and do that cross country trip I've dreamt about for years. I think I could do it in two weeks but three would be even better. Fun to think about the planning that I would need to do.
Well, since the sun is shining I need to get ready for a big day of yard work. Acreages are great but the time needed to maintain them is significant, especially at this time of year. Good work out for this old guy.
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Fife--
I'm thinking your priorities are in need of adjustment -- one honey-do, two boat tasks seems like a better idea. But then again, sleeping on the sofa doesn't seem like a great idea either
Good Morning
Sunny and 70s today.
Everything seems to come around. We fished with casting reels with cloth/nylon line. Then spinning reels with clear or blue. And now we are back to casting reels being the thing again. And backlash has always been there.
Sleepy, spent more time in the bathroom than in bed, I am getting very weary of this. I told the Doc his script was't working but he says it will. Yea well when?
S.J.
Sofa-shmofa...I gotta V-berth I can retire to...
Speaking of, we go to pick out fabric for the cabin cushions tomorrow. Thinking along the lines of Ultra Suede in Regal Blue.
Morning all. Sunny and pleasant today - TGIF! Working on buying new technology for our new offices. Strange to be pressured to spend $ fast.Ole Timer, I ended up eating too many donuts during filming... don't want any for a while. Need caffeine. Bride came in late from an evening with girlfriends, and daughter was out late completing their senior class prank - planting spoons on the school's front lawn. I vote for 3 boat tasks then honey do list - both lists I guess are never done. Hannibal sounds like fun, Brutus! $4.7K for braces is a great price. I've 'invested' more than that - twice so far. Jon, just remember your fantasy ride east should run through Illinois first.
Good morning from sunny and bright Portage, MI (South of Kalamazoo). Here for Grand Niece's graduation tonight. Up at 6:00 AM yesterday. Drove to airport for an 8:05 flight. Left at 9:00. Arrived at O'Hare in Chi-town a little afer 10:00. Rode the Blue Line CTA to Clinton Street in downtown. Walked four blocks to Chicago Union Station. Arrived just in time to get in line and wait about 5 minutes to board Amtrak 352 for Kalamazoo. Smooth, quick ride and on time. Tomorrow, Amtrak 351 to Chicago, 30 to Washington, DC, and 97 back to Jacksonville Monday mornning. New Elementary Statistics class to start Tuesday night. Saw EJ&E, DMIRR?, and CN diesels at one of the rail complexes in the steel making areas along the old PRR line in Northern Indiana yesterday.
Coninued prayers for all in need.
Mel Hazen; Jax, FL Ride Amtrak. It's the only way to fly!!!
Good Morning All, first time posting on this thread. A little info about myself, retired last year from a large apparel retailer after 30 years, 4 months, and 15 days. Had a great position as Director of Transportation which allowed me to travel all over the world on the companies dime. The company was in a downsizing mode last year and they made an offer that I could not refuse, basically paying me until I start drawing SS this coming Aug at the age of 62.
Currently live in Hilliard, Ohio, relocated from Seattle when the company moved their distribution center 22 years ago.
The wife is still working so now I am in charge of all household chores and chief cook. Currently in the process of rebuilding my layout, I try to spend a couple hours a day on the task, either operating or working on the layout. I have 5 grandkids so I am the emergency chauffeur when needed. Oldest grandson starts at Ohio State this fall in their Aeronautical Engineering school.

Bill: I'm a newbie here myself.
Jon ... that really hit home on the young Navy guy ... me being an old sailor ... when all this started ... told everyone I wish they could strap me to a .50 cal over there instead of the kids they were sending . Breaks my heart everytime I see the pics of those young men and WOMEN .... losing their lives in arabia ... sad is'nt the word ... ... but they won't take us old used up vets .... but by golly we're willing to die instead . If you ride through Maryland ... lunch is on me ...
Seayakbill/Bill .... welcome aboard ! I'm retired also and the wife works . Not that she likes still working .... I think she just wants to be away from me ... lol .
SJ .... the VA had me on wrong meds for over 7 months ... kept complaining ... I think they thought I was just an old feeble minded fart ... NO WISE CRACKS GUYS ! Finally went to a new young female doc ... she knew right away and changed everything ... a God send .
Steve ... know the feeling of unwanted ride to school ... when I'd take my son in my old Jeep ... he'd make me drop him off around the school building so the kids did'nt see it ... I finally told him ... you'll be riding your bicycle next time .... 12 mile ride ... then the Jeep did'nt look so bad anymore ....
A big howwwwdy .... to the other old geezer in Carolina .... I wonder if he has a price tag on his straw hat too ?
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cool, 60 degrees. Cloudy. Going up to 75 today, with some sunshine. We have had a lot of rain lately.
Today is a normal day. A little busy this morning and relax this afternoon. I am going to get a haircut later. Then, run a few errands. Wife is feeling a lot better. She is almost back to normal. That's good.
Buckeye.....TGIF
Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Friday.
Chuck
O T: Thats funny.....daughter did the same to me this am. Made me drop her off behind this little building out by the road and she would walk the 150 yards to the mainbuilding in the rain. What she didn't realize is that in order for me to get out of the parking lot I had to drive all the way up and past the school to get to the exit. He last name in 20" high letters accross the truck. Not exactly a stelth vehicle I was laughing all the way home. Steve

I can tell you there is another Buckeye on this thread called Buckeye Riveter. Great guy and a big kidder. Check out his web site at http://lioneltrains2.shutterfly.com/
I too try to put in a couple of hours a day operating or working on my layout. Almost always end up operating a lot more than working!
