Morning all. Had a great weekend, took the grandkids here http://amtma.blogspot.com for an open house on Sunday. They loved it. In addition to N, HO , S and O layouts they have several tables of Thomas and Geo Tracks for hands on by the kids. There are also two loops of battery powered ride on trains for the kids.

Morning all. Sunny but cold today as life returns to normal. Snow melting. Jon, Baseball America picks the Sox (White) last - nice motivation for Ozzie. The circus sounded great, Brutus! Nice chatting with Charlie, Sir J and RT last night. Hope you're feeling better this am, Sir J. My, that doesn't look like Fife at all...the tailfeathers are all wrong. The 'drywall cat' decided to walk across 'Eagles Ridge' - a long tunnel on the layout - last night and of course it collapsed blocking three main lines, taking down a revolving beacon and a whole 'distant' town. So after reflecting that this will probably happen again, I daylighted half of it. I really want to keep using the crinkly old layout paper that mimics the Lionel mountains of old, but I was always leery of having a transformer way back where I couldn't keep an eye on it (to run the local accessories). In other restoration news, I went to hang a towel in the 'new' bathroom and the whole rack came out of the wall. LOL. Always something.

Some snow in the grass this morning but the pavement was dry. Sun is out so snow will be too. I'm still trying to recover from the bug I caught from the chief so not much going to go on here today. We got to teach him coughing on the pot spreads germs. I think a few small household chores will be my best for today. Breakfast was one waffle and coffee.

Brent - Heres the trick, set the expectations/concerns HIGH, (Susie-Q's), THEN implement moderate. Usually works. Example: If the china cabinet is her favorite item, discuss how that would work on a temporary basis, THEN actually use the table. She will be pleased you didn't use the china cabinet. Unless of course she is out of town for an extended period, then anything goes.
Had a great weekend ! Highlight was meeting up with Ray, he is a real cool guy. Especialy considering he was originally a Tar Heel. But, he has been pretty much purged of all those roots. He really speaks good, however he may ocassionaly lapse back and eat the wrong stuff. (He was really looking pretty seriously at some styrofoam laying around at the club meet.) But, restrained himself, said he still has reocurring nightmares/dreams about eating grits. He is a former Engine Man for the SP, ran between LA and Yuma, had a couple of interesting stories. I'm sure he has more! While was at the meet I snagged a Lionel flat car with 2 of the UP '53 Ford pickups. It was mint, got it for $25, seems like a pretty good deal to me.
Did have to work Sunday, turned out it was really busy, I think set a record for sales at that venue. Then family took the FIL out for dinner to celebrate B-day. Didn't get to spend anytime in train room, just was to busy and then tired. Got up early this morning and did get the Chief's car posted in SPF. So will get that package up and sent off to Jon, (will use a NEW paper bag, nothing to good for my Buddy the Chief.)

Regarding my programming efforts with the trains. I have an objective/goal in mind. This will bug me UNTIL I do it! Chief reminded me about programming with the Legacy system. So did a little test run, and it was extremely easy. Also since the program is retained in the Cab2, there is not anytime waiting for the DCS to communicate the TIU, which makes the response time faster. Also with the Legacy the programming session is longer, 1000 commands compared to 500. The only thing I don't like is Legacy has only ONE program it can retain. So if you get a long one saved, it could be easily erased, probably also if using alkaline batteries and need to change them.
Anyway, I am planning on a Session which will start off with DCS controlling MTH trains and switches. Run through a number of routines invoking 5 or 6 engines. Then 75% of the way through the routing starting up the Legacy remote, run through sequences with a different 3 or 4 engines, while managing the switches with the DCS remote. Conclude with the last of the MTH engines and Legacy/TMCC engines ending up in their original starting positions. That will be a real challenge, especially for one person. (BTW, the Legacy allows programing sessions using the TMCC engines, and the upgrades as well.)

JONADEL, still love the game of baseball. But what they are doing to it, the players,managment, commissioner, steroids, free agency, too high priced players, 12 bucks for a dog and a beer at a game. I could go on and on about it. The zinger is it seems like its all about greed. No loyalty to the team that brought you up. I am losing interest in it. I hate to say it but when a team gets so close to doing something, there players seem to jump boat for bigger bucks someplace else. That is why I enjoyed TB Rays last year in the series. A bunch o gyz playing together, team payroll under 38 million, and they are there in the series in the toughest division in baseball. Managed by a guy I played football with in HS. I really think things have screwed up the game big time. And until they get a commisioneer who is a hardnose guy the game will suffer. Just my thoughts.

Back from my workout, I think it gets harder every time.Weather was not to bad here, we had a little hail, fair amount of wind and rain, but not damage. About 30-40 miles away in Clay Twp. they had a tornado which turned over one large mobile home, destroyed several others and ripped the roof of a large barn and the farm house. At least no one seriously injured. Today's weather is cool and windy, to get into the mid 50s.Not much ambition left after the workout, we will see what turns up.
BTW, what happened to Brent's YORK thread, it must be on page 99. I forgot when we are meeting.
Good morning all, Kicked off another week with my morning 2 mile walk even though it was cool and cloudy from overnight marine layer. Actually better for walking. Sun out now and predicted warm for the week.a Not much train running this week end but did go to a train meet on Saturday at TCA where Dbaker and I had a chance to meet for the first time.
Laz, good luck on the trout opener. Wish I could be with you. I love trout fishing and I like to eat them too.
SJ, a belated congratulations on you and your misses 50Th. My wife and I will celebrate our 50th this year as well. The date is November 26th. We got married on Thanksgiving day 1959. Thought it would be easy to remember but Thanksgiving does not alwalys fall on the same date. Hope I'm well enough to do something special for the bride at that time. We need to take a nice vacation trip somewhere.
dbaker48, enjoyed our get together. I do regress once in a while on the grits. Actually I occasionally have cream of rice which I guess is a Yankee version of grits. They look and taste about the same to me. Dr. recommended it once years ago when I had an ulcer. That operating session you are planning has me dizzy just reading about it. Sometimes I put one train on a separate line on the record feature with DCS and then I run a couple more on the opposite side of double track while working switches with just toggles or manually. Don't have an AIU yet. It gets you as busy as a one armed paper hanger sometimes. I don't know anything about the Lionel system yet. I only have DCS.

Went outside the house this morning heading for the back yard. After turning corner of house, I met a skunk coming the other way. Both of us did an about face. Funny, I hardly ever see one in the daytime. I tried to trap some racoons one time and caught one of those rascals instead. I did'nt have the cage covered either so I was leary about letting him out without getting sprayed. My next door neighbor walked up near the cage quietly and with a long pole opened the cage door and let the skunk out. What a relief! I gave up on trying to catch critters after that. Like Forest Gump said in the movie, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get".
TTOS train meet coming up next Sunday but it is Palm Sunday. That's a pretty bad day for me to go to a train meet. I want to go to Mass that day rather than the vigil mass on Saturday. The Sunday mass is more special for Palm Sunday and the big choir is at that one too. I don't think TTOS had any choice. It just happened to fall on their scheduled date. Probably won't be too well attended but we'll see. I might try to go and get there late after church. I don't know yet.
Breakfast today was the usual oatmeal with bannanas and strawberries with wheat toast and cream cheese. No grits Don!

Hello everyone! Boy is this a talkative bunch. Computor network at the house is down, so had to wait till a quiet time at work to get on here. Was a decent weekend, but with plenty of rain. Had a river running behind the house.
Sir James , Congratulations to you and your bride! That is incredible that you have that number of years together. Certainly a mark to be proud of and I pray that you two have many more blessed years ahead.
Bride worked Saturday night, so she did not make it to early church. Was a good service as usual, but missed my wife. Several of our pastorial staff were out of town in Daytona for a marriage conference. They came back mentioning some folks who know me....Seems they hear that often and I am affraid I may be getting a reputation. Anyway, they got home after averaging 3 hours of sleep for the last 4 nights and all seemed tired to the point of exhaustion.
I am back on call and will hopefully have a relatively quiet week. I have to mount that control panel now that it is about done, but I have one last thing to stain and, unfortunately it has been raining or been too damp to do that.
Brutus, got a great deal on some Star Wars Legos at WalMart the other day....the gun ship that sells for $119., I got two of them for my son and nephew for $35. each. Pays to check the clearance isles some time.

Sports concessions are HUGE money makers for whomever controls that part of the contract and it's all about greed. Period. When our sons were young we would always go to one or Twins games a year in MPLS, the tickets were typically the cheapest part of the day and we literally had to plan ahead for the day as money was very tight. We always had a great time but Holy Cow I don't know how families who live close to the park and love baseball could afford very many games.
What really trips my trigger is the outrageous salaries that pro athletes and coaches command, just stupid and for the most part, they can't control themselves when push come to shove economically. There's certainly something wrong with the big picture in the good old USA when it comes to D1 college athletics or pro sports but then again, it's all consumer driven. End of rant.

Hi hows it going help other half put in 3 tomato plants and 11 pepper plants one red, one yellow, and 9 green all bell. the green came as 9 in a pack and the red and yellow came seperate pot. Have front flower garden to do tomorrow when I get home from work but thats not bad thats only 8' X 12' . And all we have to do there is put down about 6 bags of planting soil and mix it with some of whats alredy there. (oh forgot have to take the pansy out first and replant to a big pot till they finally croak ) then we need to rake and level out the flower garden and she has some wild flowers to sow and then 9 bulbs to plant in the front. part of it. Then next saturday I have a area of about 4' X 20 that I need to run the tiller in ( acually a cultivator) so she can plant more flowers there this are is at the end of the veg garden. Then the gardens will be done and I can look at starting my train room now if I have the money to do so lol. Well not much else going on here. still can't believe March is already shot basicly. wish they would post the anocement for the position I want to try for which has been aproved since last november ( thats the goverment for you)
did win an auction on bay of E today and kinda feel bad for the guy but all i really wanted was that it had a slope back tender with the train set and I want one to see how it will look behind my 0-6-0 switcher I got with the Cascade Set. I'm thinking of making one to fit as I want a tender behind it and I think it will look great this way. The tender I got is a Lionel Lines that was behind a 8704 steamer. I know cheap but it will give me the look to see how I like it and got train set and shipping for less than $20.00 set is a little broke up like the caboose is just the shell and the tanker missing the end caps think I have one somewhere lol and then the red car which ( this is from the racing set) held the race cars has a broken truck but they have a replacement truck to go with it. My total cost is like $18.74 .
Not to much else happening today.

Home. Dr. and I came to an understanding. [he first had said she had to have 24/7 care for a month. my reply was you will have to write the order and put her in rehab as I'm not paying. only reason she was back in hospital was one Dr. had over medicated her.] Then they checked Mom out and said she was OK to only have just day care. Came home feeling good. Big load off my mind. Then Oldest calls and she had talked to her Grandmom. Mom ran the carekeeper off and told her she paid her. She does not pay her, I do. I called her and we had a "prayer" meeting. She hung up on me. Talked to caregiver and she said Mom was doing OK but wanted caregiver to know Mom was in charge. Thinks Mom will be OK tomorrow. Told her call me if she was acting up tomorrow. I will go back and Mom will see how "ugly" her son can be. Gets hard when you have to switch roles. Dad spoiled her and let her have her way all her married life. She thinks it is still that way. Partly is as she is getting to stay home and not in a rest home.
Lets all take a lesson from above. Do NOT give our kids a hard time when we get old.
OH!!!! No meetings tomorrow. Watch what happens.
BTW: this AM, Pam's Mom [70] fell over their lab [lying on the floor in the dark] in her kitchen and thought she had broken shoulder. Turns out she only bruised it bad. BURR.

60's and partly cloudy today. The darn grass needs mowing. I've forgotten to get the mower sharpened this winter. It is one of those reel types that are powered by bio-fuel. Cheesburgers and beer in my case.
Anybody know how to sharpen an old fasion reel type mower?
I've noticed that the Coffee Pot is like a forum within a forum. Kind of like literature - which Shakespear play was a play within a play?
Chief--been there done that, be patient but be strong and kind. She knows not what she does, trust me.

Congratulations on the anniversary.
I've been busy tearing the layout down, but it is finally done. I don't know if I am going to rebuild at this point. I got my tax refund, and I am planning on all of it going into the Probe instead of a new layout. I've spent so much on trains, and I really can't see continuing at the present. Part of me wants to dump all of the collection and put the money into locating a first generation Probe. On a brighter note, after twelve years of searching, I have finally found Jet Moto and Twisted Metal 2 for the PC. I still have some bugs to work out though.
Chief, glad you don't have to put your mom in a nursing home. Hope this arrangement continues to work out. I can't offer any advice on 92 year olds. Unfortunately my folks all checked out early. I suppose all you can do is be kind but firm. More prayers for both of you.

They are talking about the grain elevater Kurt fixed up for Charlie so I tippy toed away for a few minutes. But banilla is ready whenever they want to come by.

Probably alot more than you or I want to pay ! They've darn near priced the regular guy with a couple kids right out of the ballpark . It's a shame ... they even had a special on tv about the prices of tickets - food - souveniers being ridiculous . They said in another couple years the regular guy won't be able to go with the kids to them . Especially now with the economy and job losses .

8N "Anybody know how to sharpen an old fasion reel type mower?" You may want to head to Home Depot or Lowe's and get a Dremel Lawn Mower sharpening set. It just attaches to your Dremel. Has a grinding wheel and a plastic shroud that sets the angle for sharpening the blades. From there, it should be self explanitory. Just make sure you wear gloves to protect yourself from the already sharpened blades!
Regarding pro sports...I tired of them when they went on strike. Ever since, the only games I take my family to are the AA and AAA games in the area. The players are a lot more fun and are not all full of themselves. Have little regard for the majors. It is not like the days of old. At one time, I dated a girl who's father pitched for the Red Sox. He left to fight in a little talked about war in Korea. You'ld be hard pressed to find a sports star or actor give up what they have to fight for this country.....kind of what made the Pat Tillman saga such a tragedy.

Morning to all,
Have been really busy. Spent Saturday on a bus trip to NYC, saw a show, walked around, etc. Didn't get home until 1:00 AM. UP early Sunday to Northern Va for confirmation for niece then dinner didn't get home util after 9:00 PM. Last night came home from work had some crab soup and a sandwich for dinner and then promptly feel asleep in chair. Slept until 9:30 and then watch TV until 11:00 went to bed but I tossed and turned most of the night. Two late nights at work this week, tonight and Wednesday. Gets old after a while. Probably spend this weekend resting up from all of the late nights and running around last weekend.
Really want to get out to the train closet and clean up the layout a bit if it ever warms up. Been cold at night still.
Well, I have to get going, have a 7:30 meeting at school.

8N all you need is a good file, not to coarse. the stationary blade is the one that does the cutting. Make sure it has a good square face. On the better ones you can adjust the reel and or the blade. They should be as close as possible without touching.
Chief, best of luck with your Mom. You're in my prayers. I can relate to this. My parents are 87 and 88 and not in the best health. Thankfully they live next door to me. It's easy to check up on them
I'm not into pro sports of any kind. they're all a bunch of over paid cry babies, Nascar included. I do have a tendancy to follow PENN STATE football and local high school basketball.
