OK CRIS,
I salute you [tup][tup][tup], keep up the good work.
Was relativly close to you in Allentown, Pa. went to a train shop the off of 191 called Trains Lanes and Hobby. Cool store very expensive though. If you get a chance to go to the Spring Thaw show in Allentown at the fair grounds on Feb. 26-27 it is a real good show all the BIG destributors are there and you'll get some great deals. 600+ tables.

Regards From the North,

I was on my way to my office for some late night work and noticed the temprature is dropping down to -30°F tonight. Even though it is chilling down the ARR was still hauling oil tankers out to the North Pole refinery at 11:00 pm. tonight. They looked pretty wild wearing a thick hoarfrost coating as they rolled through town.

Jim, thank you for posting your pond pictures and sharing how you tint your ice– your work looks great. I have a 60' x 90' (real) hockey rink in my backyard, with boards and lights. My son's name is Addison and when he was 5 years old he named the rink "Addison Square Garden". After seeing your ideas I think I will make an O scale version of Addison Square Garden on our Christmas layout later in January. (The little hockey players on one of our old hockey sets might be just the right size to set up a game of shinny.)

Have a good day everyone!

Good Morning all,

NE Ohio is very warm, compared to Kevin’s home town. Willoughby is at 42 F this morning with rain on the way from the SOUTH.

Chris – I don’t believe anyone has made one in 1/43 scale.

Bhoyfan – we love Buddy Holly songs. We went to see the play ‘ The Buddy Holly Story’ a few years back when it was in Cleveland.

JimBo – great pics on the pond

Morning gang. Did not get below freezing last night. Warm but cloudy [not suppose to rain but sure is dark]. Still got some OHIO on the ground. Will not leave. Suppose to be real warm rest of the seek and into next week. Now they say taht Jan. might be extra warm. Figures as I can not fish. [:(] Maybe get to work on the layout I was suppose to start last spring. Glad to see new folks joining us each day. Everyone have a great day and God bless all.

Hi all. Took advantage of the warm weather to paint a few wood panels and odd sizes of spare drywall I had lying around to add a few hills to the layout. I'm just placing them against my plastic tablecloth backdrop. Going to be in the 50s today. Hope all is well with you.

Morning Folks,
All of our Ohio and ice is gone, now just a whole bunch of water on the ground. I believe that temperatures are somewhere in the '50s today, so it doesn't have much of a chance of surviving.

I'm feeling quite a bit better today, but that means working on some school work that has to be done before the begining of next week[:(] I still have a pretty good chunk of Gone With the Wind to read, as well as some other things to read, and a paper to write. Why I put these things off until the last minute, I'll never know.

Hopefully, my Super O power blades will be in today, so I can set up a small operating Super O loop(around the tree, maybe). I love what I've seen so far.

Hope you all are well! Have a good day!

Hello North Pole Kevin and Addison - I applaud your plan of adding the "Addison Square Garden" to your table! I guarantee that if you let Addy help you construct it, he will beam with pride everytime he shows it to someone. And my money's on him to beat the old man in a friendly, one-on-one game of shinny...! Take him down Addison...(wink)!!!

...and here's how I stabilized the figures on my table...

Nice work Laz! Thanks for the photos.

Warm here - headed towards the low 70's today and very humid (ugh).

Daughter and some of her buddies snuck out last night to "fork" (dozens of plastic forks in the victim's lawn - the new age way to "wrap" someones house) a friends house. Well the victim found out who did it and guess where they all were this morning? Well she got to get up early and pick them all up! She was not as pleased as she was last night!

Train club meeting and run tonight.

Have a great day all! Happy New Year!
Roy

Thanks Guys for the kudos,

DAAN the coal breaker is one that I built from scratch.(being a wood shop teacher allows you to do this at times). I built it because of the movie THE MOLLY MAGUIRES,
it was shot near my home town of Hazleton, Pa. at about 1968. My father (RIP) helped build the real one for the movie and I wanted to have something on the layout to remember him by. And yes it works manually, but I would like to rig up a motor to bring the hoppers up the HO track and allow it to reverse by itself. Haven't found the right type of motor yet, kinda stumped.
Oh well in time?

Great job LAZ. Have not even gotten started on mine. Love photos of layouts. Give me ideas. Jim [the old man] has got some real good ways to do things. Got some great ideas from seeing Buckeye's layout in action.

Laz the layout is lookin' really good. I too really enjoy seeing layouts here so I can "borrow" ideas for ours. It's sure been a good week here for trains; our kids are very impressed with what ol' Dad & Mom have done (actually surprised); good friend and his father, both modelers stopped in yesterday and tomorrow a former student of mine and his family from Mission TX are stopping by--haven't seen him for 10 years and now he has two kids. It's a great time of year to share our fun.

The boss and I took in The Aviator this afternoon (excellent movie) and really enjoyed it. That's our 3rd movie in a week and we probably don't go to 5 movies a year..........

Jon and gang, "Chasing Liberty" has been on prime cable this week and last. Has a lot of scenes of trains and the aquaduct type bridges in Europe. I've still got soem OHIO several inches thick on a roof on the north side of house. Been really warm today. Can not believe it has not gone.

Doug - Correct on falling off the mower because of "neighborly distractions"...it got so bad that one of 'em bought me the helmet, and another one installed DCS and TMCC on the mower. Now she keeps the speed down to 3 SMPH whenever I turn it in the corners of the lawn. Yet another lady told me I was too dumb to handle it under conventional control and that was the reason I kept flying off of it. Thank God for these digital control systems!!!

ps All of 'em especially like blowin' my whistle and ringin' my bell...!

Happy New Year all...

Jim, we are forced by law to wear helmets on motorbikes (not on lawnmowers however), mopeds and scooters. If you have an accident on one of them and you smash your head, the helmet protects you from being a smashed tomato..
It makes sense to wear one on the motorbike, even if it's an 80cc one. You should get a red one for steering the santa's slee!

Just having read the post "Need Input" I find it interesting that we in the hobby are changing our mindset in that we are more and more starting to use the word "importer" instead of "manufacturer" when referring to the providers of trains. It's a shame that our industrial base has become a goup of improters rather than manufacturer/exporters. We are even starting to loose out on services with all the phone and on line tech support going overseas. What will the next generation due to gain income to buy these imports?

Sorry that I got on the soap box this morning but I felt that I had to get it off my chest.[soapbox]

Daan, in the USA many states have helmit laws for motorcycles and bicycles, some local areas have them for skateboarders and rollerskaters.

Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR all!

Good Morning all,

It’s spring in NE Ohio. Winter must be over. Temp at 50 deg going to 60 with rain showers. Almost all of our snow and ice is gone. It must be spring or is Chief blowing us all that warm weather?

Laz – great pics of your layout. You must join us on the Sunday Photo Fun.

Roy – just remember when you were your daughters age. What kind of stuff were you doing? Don’t become your father.

JimBo – you need to add a beer glass to your helmet.

We were adjusting the flash on our new camera last night. Here as some pics
