Chief, Ben is young. If our wisdom teeth had been pulled out this morning, we would not be on the computer, but would be taking enough pain killer to put us under.

If the streets are closed,
and covered with dirt,
the corvair stalls,
and jeeps show what they're worth.

A corvair can't crawl,
across rocks and stones,
and if it's cold outside,
you'll freeze your bones.

A Jeep however,
has low and high gears,
which can bring everyone
to places beyond their fears.

A corvair is nice,
a jeep is best,
when a corvair crawls through snow,
it will lie down on it's chassis and rest.

If a jeep crawls through snow,
jou'll notice a smile,
between the lights on the grill,
because it goes for a while..

Corvairs like tarmac,
and no other thing more.
The jeeps like everything
that's what they're made for..

And Jim.. Still not into jeeps?? I even have a mitsubishi pajero in 1:10 scale RC specially rebuilt for rock crawling..
Though I must admit that with the lack of any snow in Holland, I'm also bound to tarmac..

Got a notice today that my sd28 is in the city and can be collected tomorrow from the local distibution centre.. I can't wait!!!
Hope the power keeps up in the states! (we have the powerlines underground..)

Daan, the majority of our lines in our area are underground too, but during an ice storm, the above ground lines are usually taken down by tree limbs because too many people get upset about the power company trimming the trees. The next time I am going to call a tree hugger to come and sit in my frozen house, while I go sit in a heated bar and drink to their health. [:D][:D]

Afternoon All.
The weather is not being very nice today. Most of the time just some light rain or some drizzle, but the next thing you know it's rainin' like a cow whizzin' on a flat rock. So far no problems in our neighborhood, expect most of the problems will be in the burn areas from last years fires. We haven't had enough rain in the past year to facilitate sufficient plant growth to reduce runoff and erosion.
Buckeye, what's with a place in Waldo being so popular with "Fried Bologna Sandwiches"? Must admit that they did look good on Food Network.[dinner]

The Jeep and Corvair
Decided to dare
And see who could win the race.

They'd cross hills and streams
Any obstacle, it seems
And see who would fall on their face.

Now, Daan drove his Jeep
Up mountains so steep
He knew he was sure to win.

But Chiefie knew best
His Corvair he let rest
Until it was time to begin...

The starter's flag fell
And Duda knew well
The winner would NOT be the Jeep!

The Corvair got there first
And Daan's bubble was burst
And the Corvair was still half asleep!

The moral, dear folks
Despite Nader's jokes
Is the Corvair will never be beat!

The Chiefie knows best
And Duda don't jest:
The Jeep went down in defeat!!!

My birthday is on Jan 1, gonna be 48 years old, boy that hurts! Got to go and bug my wife to see if I could get her to reveal what she got me.

The only thing that scared the [censored] out of me with the Corvair was the interior heating system. Just something about burning gasoline for heat.[:O]

Doug, glad you are OK. OH, Corvair's heaters were heat off of the exhaust manifolds and the air cooled heads. Leaky oil on engine could give you some fumes. I did not have a leaking one though as I was my own mechanic. Laz, I did not get to go this year as the rifle and sawed chest do not go together. [;)] Got a good spot that is private [where my pond is in the woods]. Glad you got one. Muzzleloader is really great doing.

Wife's FIRST car was a Corvair with the gasoline fired heater. She said it was the BEST heater in the world except it scared the beejeezus out of her whenever she turned it on...a VERY LOUD pop! But talk about INSTANT heat! Just wish my motorbike had a heater...so I can ride it when the next cold front comes down...70 degrees today, though...

Funny DU DA DU DA DAY. [:D] None of the ones I had or ever worked on had those heaters. Must have been a YANKEE version. [;)] They need extra heat. [:p]

We also had a '69 Karmann Ghia (fancy schmancy VW Beetle) I think those heaters were available for them, too. I installed one in the Ghia and it really did work well! My mom used to tell me you weren't a MAN until you spent an entire winter in the Midwest!!! Right Spank, Buck, Torp, etc.?

I remember when it got to -20F, my dad made us put light bulbs close to the battery. I think our friends in the Dakotas, Idaho, and Minnesota use heated dipsticks...

Speaking of dipsticks...it's good to hear from you...(name withheld because of courtesy)

Had a guy that worked for me that was retired Chief Master Sgt, USAF. Last duty station was Grand Forks [is that South Dakota or North Dakota?]. He said, that during the winter, they had block heaters and battery heat pads with plugins in the grill of the vehicle. When he and his wife went to work [she downtown, him the base], they had to plug their vehicles in during the day. [:0] Of course during the night. Now that is cold. Why would humans live in that when they could do better? Yankees confuse me. [;)][:D]

My sister had a ’63 or was it a ’64 Corvair with a gasoline fired heater and Jimbo you are correct, instant heat. I also remember may nights putting a trouble light under the hood, one by the battery and one by the carb.

What great memories.

When we were in the mountains of Colorado we made use of the block heaters. It was nice to fire up your truck when it was 20 or 30 below and have warm air out of the heater/defroster real quick. [^]

I dont use the heated dipsticks , seems all they do is fry the oil where the dipstick is. I have block heaters, a heating element that goes into one of the knockouts on the engine block. Dont need to use them on the vehicles unless it -20 or lower. However I keep the diesel tractor plugged in all the time. Hope we dont have any of the -30 we had for a few days last year.........Tim

LAZ, I have my fingers crossed. The power is still on. Went out in the country today and it looks like bombs dropped and splintered trees.

Good Morning All,

NE Ohio is having a heat wave, temp at 39 deg with a light misty rain. Chief must be huffing and puffin some warm air up this way. The weekend is going into the mid 50’s with rain. Look out for all the rivers to flood. The one by me started to have an ice pack and flood last week before the deep freeze hit it.

Buckeye – good luck with keeping the lights on.

Pick of the Day

all be safe

Good Morning Everyone,

The kids were here and now everyone has returned home and once again life is quiet in Iowa. It was sure great to have everyone home and hear Christmas stories of the past revisited. My wife has the week off so we are having some train friends in this afternoon since we didn't have the open house because of sickness. We both ended up with Pertussis (Whooping Cough) not fun at all and the cough could end up lasting 100 days, that's what happens when you work with kids.

Temps are supposed to hit 60 tomorrow, winter has been very kind to us so far except for that cold snap last week.

Take care.

Jon, here is wishing and praying you and wife get real well soon. Think you can not get it again [if that is any help]. Wonder if Ben10Ben is up or doped up with those wisdom teeth out. Ice in rivers??????? What is that? Warmer here and all of the OHIO should melt away. To be in the 70's Saturday and Sunday. If Buckeye [the pretend fisherman] was a real buddy, he'd fly down and take me fishing. [:p] All have a great day and God bless all.

Today I collected my sd28.. It's a brand new, unrun one. No scratches, no wear, perfectly clean and shiny..
I love it!! We also have rain and stuff. I've seen 10 minutes of snow yesterday and that's all. Keep warm everyone, since your talking about lamps near the battery and the fuel heaters.. it must be cold!!

Morning folks,
Haven't taken a single prescription painkiller since about 7:30 last night. I've moved on to ibuprofen, but more for the swelling than pain.

Hope to be running some trains today!

Hope that you all are well.
