Good morning from Gettysburg.  Currently it is 44 degrees.  Could get some rain today.

Some much going on on the forum that I have a hard time keeping up.  Chief , you're really making progress. Congrats on the new 2055.  I have one that I got last year and it is a great runner.  Roger - Congrats on the new grandchildren. 

Yesterday was a busy day.  we had the family here at the house for a combination birthday party for the Mrs. and college graduation celebration for my nephew.  It was also my new nephew Brian's first visit to our house, so we had to go run some trains.  (Notice the WVU hat - Let's Go Mountaineers)  I'm not sure if he was impressed with the layout as he slept through the whole operating session, even the whistles and diesel horns.

 

Well, I must get going so I can get to work.

Good morning, everyone. Another warm day here. High expected to be 60!

We took the kids to a historic district in Portsmouth, NH last night for a Christmas walk and all of us had a great time. They had a roaring bon fire that I could have sat next to all night long!

Glad to see that the Chief got another 2055. Mine's been acting up (so has my 2056). Way to be Chief.

I stuffed a little pink insulation down our Polar Express Berk's smoke stack yesterday just for kicks. I didn't even remove the old wicking. It smokes like a son of a gun now!

Today is a busy day around here. Have to haul out all the trash cans and do some chores around the house. Typical Monday.

Morning all.  Booking flights.  Want to get moving around here.  Know I will have to destroy a beaver dam this AM.  Got to go to Lowes and then Goodwill [drop of more junk I found].  Want to get some work on layout done.  Add that section.  Coughing up a storm.  Sucking up and grinding dry dusty leaves with the JD did not help.  Cooking stuffed country sausage and biscuits.  Have a good one.  OH, Grandpop Mitch, good looking Grandson.  Not saying much about Grandpop.

Good morning.  It's 43 degrees and overcast.  I hear the train going by outside our building headed south...

I can't get over how many people look at this site in a given day.  It might just be Christmas excitement (after all, that's what got me here), but I hope it continues.

I showed off the Buckeye Train (MTH) numerous times this weekend.   My mom and dad came up to visit his grandson (he turns 6mo old tomorrow).  He really like the protosounds 2.0 controls and sounds.  I cranked up the smoke for him.  I think it brought back some memories of when he was a kid.  I have his old trains from the 50s that I need to bring back to life.

I started construction on my ceiling train this week.  I borrowed a $500 laser level made for hanging drop ceilings to plot my shelf around the room.  I had this laser spinning around the room, and I chalked the line with blackboard chalk (I have dark burgundy walls and pencil doesn't show up) .  it should work out pretty well.  Once I get going on it.

Good afternoon from sunny and warm (hot?) Alabama. The temps are bumping up near 80 degrees today! Forecast is for more seasonable weather by Christmas, probably low 30s Christmas day.

 

It's funny, I got the Christmas layout up and running weeks ago, now I have almost no time to run trains!   Oh well, after all of the Christmas programs and special services and parties I'll run some trains and take some photos too!

 

Pretty much finished my Christmas shopping for the wife. Hope all of you are enjoying the Christmas season!

Grat crane, LAZ.  Welcome Wes [even though you ar from Ohizo and a Yank].  Always glad to have new folks join the forum and visit the Coffee Pot too.  Rogers Corner.  There is a picture of Buckey and myself standing right there and I am presenting him a bag of GRITS.  

Back from the Wake Mayors' Assoc. Christmas Party.  Food and Fun.

Hey, put "modern" smoke modification to new 2055 smoke unit.  Then re-did the Polar Express smoke unit.  Now both smoke great but Polar Expres will run you out of the room with exhaust fan on [running on new layout].  Check all of your PW smoke units.  Make sure the piston is doing a full travel.  I've changed the 2065 and this 2055.  Piston was only traveling half stroke.  Actually not dropping down far enough.  Do a little bending on the "flapper" that pushes the piston up and down.  Make it drop the piston all the way down [not out] and push up just enough to slightly compress the spring on the rod.

Been busy last couple of days. Getting the kids to study for semester end exams is like pulling teeth. At least they are done on Wed afternoon and then they get a break until Jan 8th.

It is finally starting to cool off here - promise of rain the next 2 days.

Big day tomorrow - my Robotics class I teach has their end of semester challenge match. The kids will get to work on their robots followed by a pizza party and then their parents show up about 6 pm to watch the kids compete. Long day but lots o' fun.

Keith - That was a very genorous offer, but I can take care of the shipping no problem.  Late on the pictures, been fight a couple of layout problems.  (Posting up date on different thread that I had started).  Should get the pics done tomorrow night.

 Roy - What ARN'T you into?  Robotics, scouting, trains, wiring national class layouts, ........... (I doubt you will get much rain, that storm only dropped about a 1/4 " when it went through here, unles it picks up some immigrating moisture on the way.

 Jim - The emails where great, passed the recipe all around!  Really enjoy them.

 Question - How many of you guys maintain a wire list for your layout?  Probably only two I'll bet.  Been doing one, sure is beneficial for future use!

The days are counting down fast now. Santa will be here before you know it. The kids and I wrapped my wife's presents last night. Glad that's done. Wrapping gifts has never been one of my specialties.

Our Polar Express is smoking good as well. I just stuffed a little insulation down the stack and it made a huge difference. But the unit leakes so bad, I don't like running it. And just to be clear, it leaked before I added the insulation!

Hey, I was in a CVS pharmacy yesterday and stumbled upon something very cool. A small, disposable video camera for $29.95. You can record, playback, and even delete scenes with it. Take it back and CVS will record the files to DVD. My wife's cousin used one at a recent wedding and said it took great video. I bought one for my daughter, but I'm thinking it would be fun to record some trains running on our layout. I could then download the files to Photobucket.
