Hello All!    I clicked on the "Report Abuse Button" about the famous S2 turbine forumite who delights in stirring the pot. So to speak, Colin- you & Ben have more maturity for your age than this Fellow does at 52+ years & that speaks for itself in volumes. Take Care all.

Good evening all...

First and most importantly Congrats to Roger!!!!!  I think you have the best news for the season regarding the boys, how old are they?  What a great event with closure for your family.

The other major news that comes to mind is how well Lucas is doing after all he's been through.  I'm sure Mike's family will have a joyous year for their blessings as well.

Can't leave out John's new granddaughter either, who knows may the Pot is observed by some stronger influences than we think.

Now for the trivial, after that challenging day I had last Thursday, Friday came out pretty good.  Still don't have things running correctly on my layout,  don't have another Diesel on order, anywhere.  But did manage to get a "clicker" for the El Camino, its been on order for over a month.  Its for the alarm system, I swear when an earthquake shakes up a bit the whole neighborhood is screaming because of all the alarms going off.  (I do have to admit,  I get a kick out of driving through a parking structure setting off the other alarms with the El Camino) Evil [}:)]

Anyway, I talked to MTH on Friday about the Big Boy.  I was concerned that it wouldn't be covered under the warranty since it originally was offered in the 2003 catalog, even though we bought it in March of this year.  They told me no problem it is less than a year and IS under warranty.  That made my day, especially when I paid less than 1/2 of MSRP, from a LHS.

I do have a plan to get the layout under control again, (Wife is having a cookie exchange with a bunch of other women on Tuesday, so it has to be running by then.)

So I am going to replace all batteries, disconnect and reset ZW, TMCC Cab 1, then connect reset DCS, TIU, replace batteries in controllers and reprogram Big Boy.  If that doesn't fix everything then will send the BB in for warranty repair.  I don't think I know enough to attach a potential Tach Reader problem on my own, or am not confident enough anyway, and why bother if it is under warranty.  (Will use the Cab Forward for the cookie exchange.)

Had severe T-Storm warnings all week for this week-end, so far we have had clouds and sprinkles, so the weather we are sending East doesn't seem to threatning.  Working Computer Show this weekend, so will hopefully great the trains taken care of on Monday.

(Keith, I took the picture of the "Drive-IN Theatre with the Torpedo, and boy did people like the picture of the engine!!  I think I going to have to do some restoration work on it.)

Best to all, have a great day.

Well said, Don - and I hope things even out for you really soon!  What a project!

Had time  to read over the posts - sounds like John and Laz had good days for new purchase!  I picked up Sid Meier's Railroads! program.  Very similary to Railroad Tycoon 3 based on the tutorial, although you have to actually set up sidings and stuff, which is cool and new.  Otherwise, your trains will just sit and wait forever! Also, if you demolish track you get your $$$ back, but you can't demolish track that is used by a train - you have to edit the train's route or move it to a different route first.  Check it out on gamespot.com - reviews, pics, demo etc.  Also, if you go to the official website, they are letting you download Railroad Tycoon (original game) for free!  Need to do that tomorrow I guess.

Well, we wasted my award money on personal property taxes and bills mostly.  Got new coats at Walmart, as well as a new vacuum cleaner.  In return, I'm promised a big screen tv once the basement is completed, which should be by next Summer at this rate - just really need to run a few more wires, install overhead lights, and then do drywall and some stuff in the bathroom.

Watching Emperor of the North with my wife - my turn to pick!  Great movie!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

0930 on a cold damp Stockport morning +3.

Watched X-Factor UK last night, it was won by Leona Lewis of London aged 21. An outstanding voice. I don't bother with the pop stuff much, but she may become big world wide. I don't think I've been as much impressed by a singer since Ella.

Dr John, Jim, Thanks for your guidance. I found Lionels web site and that put me to a dealer in Birmingham. I must admit that I am not sure whether he will be much cop, as he does not have e-mail or a web address. So tomorrow I shall phone him. There is quite difference between the prices Lionel quote and some of the US dealers, looks like my earlier costings were out, the price is coming closer to $350.00 for starters. Ouch!

Not doing much today, my ISP is at home to the Gremlins (great film, being shown again over Xmas), so no e-mail, there'll be a load when it is back on line!

Have a good weekend all, especially those of you coping with family enlargements etc.Smile [:)]

Hi John, Sunny here in Peterborough. I think the whole of the UK was watching X-Factor last night! I am sure are American friends are going to hear from Leona.

Tennents Trains is the UK Lionel Dealer and Service Station. Its quiet a small shop. Last time I was there they had quiet a large rolling stock selection. However not that many locos or Fastrack. Rob Lewis is the technical guy and he knows his stuff. Downside he is only there every other Saturday.

I saw a Polar Express set there and it was £275 Thats $575 at todays rates. I would say you will pay the rrp amount but in £ GBP rather than US dollers!. So I reckon its cheaper to buy from the States. Use US postal service Global Priority Mail NOT UPS OR FEDEX as they have hidden charges when items arrive in the UK.  Much as I would like to support the UK dealer.

When the exchange rate is nearley $2 to £1......

The other thing is they are paranoid about supplying any US spec. power supplies (EU laws etc.) And they will remove the CW-80 from any set. Check out my other post's on using a US spec. Inverter to provided 120V 60Hz AC power. On another note Lionel does not appear to keep them up to date with technical issues.

With the current Lionel power frequency issues you really are better off with a pure sine inverter and stick with US spec. power supplies. Do not get involved with buying a UK spec 18V AC power supply and a MTH contoller (I learned the hard way)as this costs the same as the inverter set up and does not solve the Frequency problems.

Best Regards

Nick

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a dark 54 degrees. Going up to a sunny 65 today. Doesn't seem possible that the weather can be so mild for December.

Today, we are traveling up to the Daughter's for our Christmas together. We are having it early this year. Car is all loaded with presents and ready to go.

I will check back in, tonite, to see the Sunday Photo Fun.

Off to the Dining Car for a quick breakfast.

Thanks to all for the congrats.  The boys are 7, (pushing 8), and the younger turning 2 in Jan.  They've had the older for about 3 yrs. and the young one since a week old, they are 1/2 brothers.  The topper is they are now looking into a 3 yr. old girl here in GA that a friend of my wife's is trying to arrainge.  Thought we might be transferring her with us when we go north for Christmas but the legaleeze for forster parenting out of state wouln't be ready by the end of the week.

As to trains for the boys, I have to talk to Mom and Pop.  Pop is not very mechanically/electriaclly inclined and their basement is in the process of a restoration due to a busted water pipe.  We shall see how devious Grandpa can be Mischief [:-,] since I'll have to find something to keep busy on Sat. and Sun.

As mentioned by others its seems to have been a pretty good year for all of use on the family and train front.

Good morning everyone,

Thank you for the compliment Keith.

Well, I am waiting for my dad to get up so we can drag the tree inside, and start decorating it. Otherwise, today is going to be very calm, because I went to mass last night.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Roy,

I have a bone to pick with you.  Big Smile [:D]  Do you remember how you suggested that I use two 180 Watt Bricks and a TPC 300 to power my layoutr?  Well for some reason, the breakers kept popping and I finally figured out why.

You didn't tell me that both Bricks had to be on to make it work right.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  It is working perfect now that I turned both of the bricks on.

Greetings from balmy St. Paul, MN where the natives are suffering, they are begging for snow & cold and I keep saying "what"?????????????  Plus we are watching the Vikings "trying" to resemble a football team and it's not working.

We spent some time on the Great River Road yesterday and really enjoyed seeing all the different types of train bridges, the lift bridges are very interesting. This area is rich in river barges and grain trains,  a very long history locks & dams built by the Corps of Engineers.  I think a great 3 week vacation would be to follow 'Ol Man River all the way to New Orleans, someday.

Well they made many changes to Railroad Tycoon 4 aka Railroads compared to the earlier versions.  For one thing, you don't have to tweak elevations, use buildings to change grades etc.  Also, city buildings move to fit around your "layout".  On the bad side, two trains on the same track going in opposite directions is no longer okay.  Eventually, they will slither past each other if they must, which I think represents one of them backing up, as long as you have some sort of yard at either end.  There are now train signals, crossover bridges, and the industries are animated - watch the cows getting on and off the cars is fun.  You really have to think about future expansion when you start laying track, much more so than before, and I think I will have to unlearn the old games before I get really good at this one.  Haven't really gotten into the money side yet, just re-starting the first scenario over and over to try and get a handle on it.  Another thing, you apparently can't rotate the view any more, which is probably due to the animations.  PS - my wife said I don't have to take down my sawmill for her to wrap since it's from her (I had to TEST it, right?) so just gotta run the wires back again - maybe tonight!  TTFN

Evening all.  Busy day.  Train meet this AM.  Came home to pond to destroy the beaver dam at spillway that he built last night [after I left].  This is a daily ritual.  Then to Pam's other Sunday School class lunch. They are teasing her that she will teach anywhere they offer her a meal.Approve [^]  Then back home and neighbors [who I help get a job] wanted to do the leaves and gutters [they work 6 days].  So we went to work.  Paid them though.  Just got in a few minutes ago.  Got a deal at the train meet. A set was for sell.  2055, tender [not the right one but actually better] and Irvington Cars.  Guy wanted the passenger cars and so I took the 2055 and tender at a good price.  Got to go.  Want to run it and also check out the new layout some more.  Got to call Mom and eat too.  Later.

Roy, to be more specific, one of the bricks on/off switches may have a bulb burned out.  The new one has a light in the on/off switch.  I'm not sure the old brick has the same lighted switch.  Thus I did not see that the switch was in the wrong position due lack of illunination.

I'll need to get the trouble light and look at it more closely.

Saw different Target commercial tonight.  The train engine is shown for a few seconds.  It does look like an FT not an FA as I previously thought.

Hello All!   Don B- if you want to. I'll pay the shipping both ways so you can send your 1688 to Ohio for a restoration- I think you'll be very happy with it after it is finished & I'll look it over & see if it needs to be cleaned up or replace any worn out parts for you. Sound like a deal? E-mail those photo's to me of your 1688 also & I'll look them over. As long as the casting has no cracks or decay, then all should be well. If it happens to have any of the above problems I'll look for a Identical casting for you & we'll take it from there. I just chewed out "Deputy" On the Wheel Cleaning Thread for his unwarrented behavior on this forum. We've got Teens here who behave much, much, much, Better than This so called 52+ year old Deputy who has no shame for basically being a Bully on this forum which is uncalled for. Many of you guys here have Talent's he'll never have & the layouts to prove it. & I also told him you Guys are worth more to me as friends than all of his Money combined also. Colin- You're very welcome for the compliment. I hope to visit you some day in Pennsylvania along with Laz & John F if at all possible. We'll see. Have a good evening all. Take Care.

Good evening,

Yesterday our family experienced what could have been a much worse accident than it turned out to be.  Our oldest grandson (13) rode his dirt bike into a steel cable.  He saw it at the last minute and managed to turn sideways and take the brunt of the force on his sholder.  This broke the snap on one end.  He did suffer a  large cut on the side of his neck where the cable was dragged across his neck, which required stitches, but it could have been much worse.  Today he is very sore and still scared.  Needless to say we are all very thankful that he was not seriously injured

On the brighter side, this was a beautiful spring like day.  After early church I spent the afternoon with son and grandson, the other one, shooting trap at a local club.  Had a great time, even though the grandson outshot me in two out of three rounds.

This evening went to the granddaughters Christmas program at their church.

Just ran trains a little bit to complete the day.

Roger, Congratulations on the addition to your grandchildren.  Is this the first boys?

Wow!  I'm glad he is not hurt worse than a few stiches.  We hear the same thing happening with snowmobiles in Western NY.

And now for a train related question.  Does anyone own or have any experience with Lionels, Lackawanna 4-8-4 #18003 which was built in 1988.  They are often seen on the used market and I have been thinking of getting one and converting it to TMCC.  I know they are not prototypical for the Lackawanna, but Steamers for the Lackawanna are few and far between.  I could live with this one if it is a decent runner.

Here is an example of what I am talking about.

John

I have one of these.  It's runs OK but is probably in the need of the bearings changed.  This seemed to be an issue with these engines.  It's very noisy but I really like the engine.  I think this spring I'll probably get the motor bearing changed and get it to run smoother.

John, that is why I hang orange flagging all along mine.  Someone comes by and pulls a lot of it off.  I put it right back on.  Carry three rolls in my truck all the time.    Got signs to stay out before the cable but want to be sure.  Glad he did not hit it without a little duck.  Hope he gets along OK.

Glad to see Marty back.

Good night all.
