Notice the article on MTH at Macy's. What happened to Lionel at Macy's? Roy, can you tell us the story? They have some good stuff in there but if it was not for that, I would not renew.
Just ran 2055 through all my switches and temp tack in big room. Got 90% laid out. Runs good. Still going to turn over block sections and solder connectors. secret5 is to watch pins and be sure they mate. Track still hard to get to snap. Love the switches.
On beaver patrol. They tried to dam up the spillway again while I was gone. Now John Baker will know why I am practicing with .17.

Don, sounds like you had one of those days like the Chief is always telling us about. Yes, the electronics can give us headaches at times but they sure are nice when they work. I stopped at the LHS today to pick up a Weaver boxcar that I had ordered, had some time to kill between lunch and a Dr. appointment so spent some time with two young customers showing them how to run trains with DCS. A lot of fun, one told me he was 6 they other may have been a little younger. Both were able to handle the remote really well after about a minute of instructions. One Mother said you sure are brave. I didn't tell her they weren't my trains at risk.
Her is the new boxcar.
Here is a couple of shots I took along the Amtrak main between Harrisburg and Philadelphia near the Elizabethtown Station. I am trying to figure out if this is Gargraves, Ross or Atlas track. In any event it is defective, they forgot to put in the center rail.

John, it's going to take a LOT of Scotchbrite pads to clean that track!
Actually Dr. John this track does carry the ground return from the overhead catenary. Guess they depend on the wheels to keep it polished.
And a little trivia. The term catenary has nothing to do with overhead wire, etc. It is the name of the curve formed by the top supporting wire for the lower conductor.

The guy in question was a farmer who had been attacked and robbed in his home several times, yes he got jail for killing one of the two intruders and wounding the second. the wounded guy did a paltry sentence (less than the farmer) and promptly continued his criminal activities on release. Some years ago I was threatened with arrest after I had only restrained a troublesome neighbour. We have the PC loonies running round after the head bangers and no one sticking up for the (human) rights of the good citizens. I had 0.177 air rifle in my teens as well as a 12 gauge neither of which I will be able to have now. I don't really want us to be armed, just proper protection against criminals and adequate punishment handed to the guilty.
Enough of that. went to the Armoury (no pun intended) last night, unable to take any photo's the place was full of people practising for their Christmas excess. It will be new year before I can get down to the job Dennis as everywhere is now very busy.

John, Believe it or not, I have seen this type of track so it could be based on a prototype As Dr. John has suggested, you may need a good bit of scotchbright to clean it. For me, I will stick with my fastrack and the third rail. My layout is together, just have to wire it now. I got through it without a single cuss word (unlike the Chief). Of course, I may say a few bad words when I have to clean all that track!
John Baker, no problem on waiting for the photos, spoke with my friend yesterday, he is looking forward to them when they arrive, but in the mean time, we will just have to have a few "practice" pints. Actually have a few festivities planned for the near future.
My parents are arriving today with my niece. I have to do an emergency case this morning, but hope to get to pick them up at the airport. I may be off the forum a bit this coming week, but will check in when I can.

A New Orleans lawyer sought an FHA loan for a client who lost his house
in Hurricane Katrina and wanted to rebuild. He was told the loan would
be granted if he could prove satisfactory title to the parcel of
property being offered as collateral. The title to the property dated
back to 1803, which took the Lawyer three months to track down. After
sending the information to the FHA, he received the following reply:

"Upon review of your letter adjoining your client's loan application, we
note that the request is supported by an Abstract of Title. While we
compliment the able manner in which you have prepared and presented the
application, we must point out that you have only cleared title to the
proposed collateral property back to 1803. Before final approval can be
accorded, it will be necessary to clear the title back to its origin."
Annoyed, the lawyer responded as fo llows:

"Your letter regarding title in Case No. 189156 has been received. I
note that you wish to have title extended further than the 194 years
covered by the present application. I was unaware that any educated
person in this country, particularly those working in the property area,
would not know that Louisiana was purchased, by the U.S. , from France in
1803, the year of origin identified in our application. For the
edification of uninformed FHA bureaucrats, the title to the land prior
to U.S. ownership was obtained from France , which had acquired it by
Right of Conquest from Spain . The land came into the possession of Spain
by Right of Discovery made in the year 1492 by a sea captain named
Christopher Columbus, who had been granted the privilege of seeking a
new route to India by the Spanish monarch, Isabella.
The good queen, Isabella, being a pious woman and almost as careful
about titles as the FHA, took the precaution of securing the blessing of
the Pope before she sold her jewels to finance Columbus ' expedition. Now
the Pop e, as I sure you may know, is the emissary of Jesus Christ, the
Son of God, and God, it is commonly accepted, created this world.
Therefore, I believe it is safe to presume that God also made that part
of the world called Louisiana .
God, therefore, would be the owner of origin and His origins date back
to before the beginning of time, the world as we know it AND the FHA.
I hope you find God's original claim to be satisfactory. Now, may we
have our loan?"

Good Morning from blueberryhill....
It is a cold 27 degrees and sunny. Going up to 54 today with sunshine.
Looks like a lot of guys are up, already , this morning. Today is a day to get things ready for our trip North, tomorrow. Finish wrapping presents, load the old jalopy, count out pennies to buy gas. Pack some balogna sandwiches to eat on the way. Yes, life is good.
Speaking of trains, I want to run them for awhile this afternoon. I have a few new ideas, for the bridge. That's a big bridge. Getting that thing to hinge is going to be an engineering conquest.
Buckeye.....I have decided never to buy land in Louisiana. WOW.
Well, the Dining Car just rolled in from points West. Someone in the Columbus area, ate all the food. Have to wait for them to restock, and start cooking. Breakfast shortly.

Good Morning Everyone !! I slept a little later today than yesterday ! I must have been too excited after winning this Gas tank on E-bay yesterday for only 36 dollars !! I figured it out, right now is a perfect time to get train stuff cheap on there, cause everyone is buying other stuff !! This is metal the seller said & I hope he ships it out soon !! It's also dusty !! About 7 inches high & 10 " in Dia.
I'm not buying land in Louisiana either !! That was good Buckeye !!
Chuck : I used to make my boy bring sandwhiches & we would bring a cooler for pop when we went to train shows so we wouldn't buy stuff to eat! Somehow we would always still end up at McDonalds !!

Just got back from the train layout at the Elizabethtown Library. I took my Reading FA-1 with the camera in for them to use. A group calling themselves "The Train Guys" sets this up every year and takes it back down again. Here is an overview picture. I will post a few more tomorrow.
Picture was taken before it opened to the public. It is usually jamed with people when open.

Morning all. Cloudy here and headed for 77 the next two days and then a promise of some rain which is badly needed. Our city's main reservoir is now 65% depleted. Meanwhile the city here continues to water the medians.
John - that is a very nice looking gas tank. I hope it comes through OK. It will look great on your layout!
John (jefelectric) - that's why the track is sitting over on the side. They won it on E-Bay and when it arrived - it was rusty and the center rail is missing.
I guess the powers of the underworld have ceased since the Chief keeps moving on his layout. Balmy weather continues .
Buckeye - I think I went through something similar whenn I bought my house, except this one went back through the six flags over Texas.

They keep Zip track on flat cars in the Railtrack depot at Guide Bridge near here. All ours get power from above hence no centre rail. We don't use spikes any more, Pandrol spring fasteners or something.
I wonder does any one know of Lionel or other suppliers over here? I've come to the decision that a 40" X 60" oval is feasible, so straight after the Jollies it's down to the timber merchants for Sundeala, soft wood sticks and a wander through the wonderland of the wood butcher.
Just installed Thunder-bird e-mail, now I can't receive mail. I'll have to wait until the lad that understands all these gubbins returns from Austria (why can't the software people use words of one syllable?). I think he went to watch Footy or something equally pointless.

John (csxt30) - Thanks for the head's up on the switcher. Not buying any motive power right now, but always appreciate a lead on GM&O stuff. I'm thinking of repainting a K-Line S-2 in GM&O colors if I could find some O scale decals - plentiful for hood units but not switchers. May have to fake it with dry transfer letters.

Warm and sunny in Alabama today. Cold weather supposed to return next week in time for Christmas. Enjoying a quiet day. Older daughter and son made it home okay from Birmingham. I'm fixing a pot of Santa Fe soup for this evening with rice and cornbread.

John Baker, I've seen a loop of fastrack on sale for $25 online (I think it was from Charlesro or Gryzboskis?). You could also try ebay, but you pay top dollar for fastrack on ebay for some reason. I recently purchased some dvds from Germany and the UK through the various versions of Amazon and the shipping wasn't too bad - just about the cost of the dvd alone! Good luck and let us know how it goes!
EDIT: Sorry - just checked and neither website has it listed now... Still, it would be better to buy a loop (even in pieces) from an online store than from ebay due to the high prices on ebay (for some reason).

Good evening everyone,
We finally got the Christmas Tree today. I think it's about 8ft tall. Smaller than last year's. I also got my Large Scale up and running after I made a run to my LHS this morning to get more track and rail joiners.
Regarding "trouble maker" I think it is about time that he gets kicked off of the forum. Do you guys think I should say something again like last time? Actually, I think we should all press the "Report Abuse" button, and report his attitude. That will get rid of him. He is bragging about buying so many new locos, and it's getting really old. I can't stand him any more. Just to think that I actually welcomed him here on the forum disgusts me.
CONGRATS ROGER. More excuses to buy even more trains. Enjoy the time with them.

I was in ETOWN today playing the train ELF for my principals wife. Got all his stuff and picked up a NYC hot box and a 0-4-0 Lionel Reading Switcher. Both run great. Even the wife came down when I had the hot box on because " she heard some clatter came down to the train room to see what's the matter. ETOWN was packed at 10AM this morning. Wanted to get to the library but had to get home and go get a tree. BARRYs TRAIN STORE was packed. I mean I was there for about 25 minutes and counted 25 people in the store. Business is good. Lots of happy faces leaving. I was at the libray last year and they (The TRAIN GIZ) did a great job. LOTS O PEOPLE!
