I'm home.  Tired and still sick.  Remounted scope and new base and rings.  Fancy now.  With the Ruger 10/22. shot the chnter paper out.  Then took the .17 I shot in last trip and cut the center out the traget.  Next, we have ordered fancy base and rings for .17.  Going to mount sniper scope [zeros at 100 yards, has elevation "clicks" up to 300 yards, scope compensates for the bullet weight and drop up to 300 yards].  With this arrangement, I can remove one scope zeroed on this rifle and remount another one that was also zeroed with this rifle and be dead on.  Got to eat.  Later.

What a great day I'm having!  My team won a "major award" a while back for working half the New Orleans cases after that office went under water.  Probably a once in a career thing.  We waited and finally just figured we got stiffed by management.  Well, they had a presentation with the director from NOLA and today we learned that we will have a little extra in the pay tomorrow!  I already had my heart set on either a new computer (sorry, I know this is a trains site, but it's what I wanted) or a big tv set!  Well, my wife now says I have to "split it" with the family.  So I say we get my tv!  That's for the family, right!?

Then, got home and my Lionel Saw Mill I won on ebay showed up.  Paid $40 for it and it's great!  The little tab on the strip of plastic that moves the logs/boards was bent out a little, but I soon had it fixed and sawing lumber for me!  Now, of course, I have to put it all back in the box so my wife can wrap it up for me!

Now, just got an email and Gryzboski's shpped my Moe and Joe car and track I ordered.  Still need some more 3461's.

Great news, Jim! I'm glad you got credit for that hard work. Just back from serving at our church's mid-week service. My finger is tired from pressing the 'advance' button on Powerpoint for 104 slides. Drat, I just realized I gave away my Dec. CTT to a buddy in the hospital and it had that great article on how to put the Bowser engine in the Corgi trolley I'm giving myself for Christmas. Now I'll never figure it out...

Whoo Hoo. Have to try to find out who put it out.

What a disastouros Day !!!!

Glad so many had good events going on, Kevin's almost find, Chief's scope and firing,  Jon and the kindergarden class, Doug's feeling better, Jim's bonus, etc., etc.,  BTW John should be professionaly selling those Doll houses.

 Anyway, it all started yesterday, the wife had a Christmas lunch with some friends, they had heard about the train room so wanted to see it.  The room wasn't really ready for visitors, I had been lubing various cars and engines, and checking out old stock.  So this morning I had straightened it out somewhat, and the wife asked how it was all running.  So I gave her a demo, and ran the DCS Big Boy with the music playing through the engine via podcast capability.  Everything great!  She asked if the music would play out of any other engine, and we don't.  So she suggested that we need to get a diesel with that capability, Great Idea!!!!!

So #1, go to the office and look at the engines that might be available, then decide to call my favorite mail order house, and ask them what SP Premium diesel they have in stock, and don't have any, so that is now on hold.  (Due to the following phone call couldn't get any further)

Then #2, this elderly friend of mine, called and indicated that this product he got from us was leaking.  (Don't want to be too descriptive, it may sound like a commercial.)  So he brought in this unit which had leaked all over.  I was extremely concerned as to why and whether it was potentialy a product concern.  Replaced the unit, and then invited him over to see the train room.  So he calls his wife, and also asks her if anything had happened to this unit.  She tells him he had a nightmare (due to medication) and knocked the unit off the shelf.  (Explains why it was leaking.)

So off to the train room (#3), go to run the Big Boy and demonstrate all the sounds and DCS capability, and even though it is only running on a 72" oval, the engine spuradically speeds up about f or 5 times around the track.  (Possible due to lubing the night before and excessive oil accumulation?)  Then the Beeps (with TMCC), don't have any sound.  Don't know why.  Then the BB leading wheels causes a short, the whole system goes down.  The building lights were on a independent ckt, and they went out.  

 

So we go back to the office and on the way had a flat tire.  Get that taken care of get to the office, and find out two major orders didn't arrive.

Go home, to fix the trains, and find the following;

- Set screw fell out of banana lead letting wire fall out causing building lights to go out.

- Reprogrammed the Big Boy, and Beeps, no improvement.  Have NO idea why there is no sound from either Beep unit, they run great via TMCC, but just don't "start".

 

 - My guess on the Big boy is either; a result of the fasttrack being distorted, causing a intermittent signal.  (If I run a tender around the track there is a lot of "jumping" at the track joints.  Result of the track being to tightly secured to the  layout?.) 

Or, something call a "tach reader", learning about that on another forum.

 

Oh well, start all over tomorrow

Today, I have some errands to run. Last minute things we need to take with us this weekend. All the big presents are wrapped, and now for the small ones. It will be nice to see the Grand Daughter on Sunday.

I agree with you, Doug Murphy, sometimes these electronics are enough to scare you off. I must say, if I ever have any, I know who I will ask for advice.

It is sunny and mild in SE Indiana with temps heading to the 50s again.  I finished Christmas cards last night.  Order for my wife's Christmas present should be in today.  I went to the Y for the first time in a while.  I just did weights.   Our run at the historical society has been extended for two more weeks.  Buckeye, I am glad you enjoyed the "English" lesson.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Foggy and cool in Prattville, Alabama this AM. Enjoying my second cup of coffee here in the office as I run through e-mail and check in on the forum.

 

Oldest daughter and son will be home for Christmas break from their respective universities. I'll be glad to see them! The house always seems quieter when they are away, even with our younger daughter, the "social butterfly."

 

I wish I had kept up with my Spanish. I used to speak and read Spanish fairly well. I grew up in south Florida, so it was almost a necessity. Like most things, if you don't use it you lose it.

Oh joy and jubilations! My first (January) copy of CTT has arrived, I just can't wait for the Spring sales. Going to look in earnest for a UK seller of US O gauge stuff. There's a superb little 0-4-0 Tank with three cars, track etc. at just $124.00, that's £65.00 of ours. I guess import duties freight and taxes will probably double it, but it should be within my budget.

Dennis's request for me to provide photo's and information on English pubs will keep me collecting further hangovers, so what's new? My Vet says that I can drink a moderate amount of beer but must leave the Whisky alone! Just had four bottles of single malt given for my B'day. Oh dear!

John, Yes, thank you, I did get the Lackawanna passenger set in.....but my bride quickly took posession of it and I can't have it till Christmas.

John Baker, thanks for accepting this mission.  I told the guy with the pub and he is looking forward to your assistance.  Also, I have heard about the firearms laws in your country.  I remember a story about a guy who had an old side by side shotgun that had been passed down to him.  He had two intruders come into his house armed with knives and he shot one.  They ended up arresting him for having the old shotgun......a shame.

I noticed a few posts regarding OGR today, I got my latest issue and notice that I think it is on page 71? that they show a few engines but only identify the MTH ones, with a 2046 obviously sitting there as well.  I guess they are only a little biased

Just back from my hobby store loop around the county. As I came back to a house full of kids, I should've stayed out longer. I noticed to my chagrin that the UP finally painted over my beloved rail bridge through Woodstock that read Milwaukee Road in ancient block text. Woodstock Hobbies itself was a hoot - he had everything - full MSRP but what the heck. I browsed and chatted and will be back looking at Christmas trollies after the holidays. Then I went to St. Aubins Station - a weird retail outlet of G and other Garden scale, Bachmann On30 etc (and some MTH O) in a tree nursery.  All I can say is wow, I'm in the wrong scale - lots of trolleys and interurbans - as long as my arm - not that expensive (relatively). They had a CA&E interurban running. They sure grow 'em big in that scale.

Gun control means hitting what you aim at!  Had our HOLYday party at work today - went to Bernie Federko's.  Not very good food or service and she tried to charge me for 4 beers, when I only had 3!  If I'd had 4, she probably could have got away with 5 though   Played rob your neighbor, which was fun.  My friend Quetta who got divorced last year told us that her ex still has keys to the house and watches the kids over there - HUH?  Randy and I and about half the table were all like - NO way!  She needs to change those locks and kick him the blank out the door!  No mooching and no hanging around either.  That guy won't ever move on as long as he thinks there is some chance.  Plus, he's still getting mail there.  He could go to court, re-establish occupancy and try and take her house from her some day - she needs to get over this junk and do it right.  Getting ready to go out to dinner and maybe have 'nother beer or 2...  Have to go to work tomorrow though
