I like your plan, Thor.  What sort of latches will you use to connect the two sides together prior to dropping them down to a horizontal table?  You might want to do a search on Rockler dot com or some other related woodworking website for hardware ideas.  Don't you love having the kids work on the layout stuff with you?!

Just finished supper and taking a few minutes to relax, spent the day working on the client's layout and boy the back is sore.  I wish his layout was highrer, its about 2' and hard on the back.  I guess he's pleased with my work since he's always coming up with something new he wants done.

In addition to the station I'm kitbashing, installing a Spanish tile roof at this point, I'll start to draw some plans for a little building he wants that I'll scratch build.  Another challenge will be drawing the plans and scratch building the house he was raised in next to the SAL tracks in Athens, GA.

Also, this week he picked up a Mikado that he wants me to redo as an SAL unit.  That'll have to wait till after the holidays.

At least I took about an hour this week to run my own trains.  I guess I worked my 0-8-0 a bit too hard switching, I threw a traction tire.  I've to find time to glue it on since I've found once they've come off they'll keep coming off.

A great coach, Bo, passed away today at age 77.  Bo, with Woody made this game the greatest college football rivalry.  Both are greatly missed by all of the fans in Central Ohio.

Well, had today off, but was runnin' all day. First the car woudn't start for the wife. Ended up buying a new battery for that & then more errands all day.

Sorry to hear about the paasing of Bo Schembechler. I have a Schembechler story to share with you football fans. I attended a workshop back in 1994 w/ Project Adventure and one of the other guys played 4 years for Bo. He told a story about Coach S. reviewing game film with the defense following an important loss. In particular, there was one missed tackle that proved to be crucial to the Michigan defeat.  When that play came up on the game film everyone got real quite and scared as Schembechler kept rolling the game film back and forth time and time again of that "missed tackle". The more Schembechler played it the more the team knew he was getting steamed up. Final Schembechler rolled the tape back to the beginning of the play and stop the tape and said "Smith! If you miss that tackle one more time it's a five mile run in full gear!! He rolled the tape forward and the accused player quietly got up and headed for the running track around the playing field. Thanks for the great coaching and memories Coach Schembechler enjoy the rest you have earned you will be missed.

I wanted to share a couple of pictures of a bridge I recently snagged on eBay. It is a K-Line bridge and is new/unused and 30"s long with a light on the top of the structure. I paid $9.99 for the bridge and $10. for the shipping to Alaska. I thought I got a pretty good deal.

What do you guys think, for $19.99 was this s decent deal?

Jim I'm hoping that gravity will do the trick of holding the doors when in the horizontal. They'll be resting on edge supports and two vertical members.  I'm probably just going to use magnetic catches for the doors when upright.  Also I think a wire, pulleys and counterweights might be a good one so the door frame doesnt overpower anyone when being tilted and dropped.

I'm going to use hollow doors which are light and eventually I'll run them around a tablesaw to halve them and hinge them so they open up like a clamshell once lowered to horizontal. That will allow me to fix the track down and have it hidden when the doors are in normal use, it will also give me a pretty huge area of 120" x 84".  However, I'm going to do it one step at a time as I have a certain amount of customer resistance to deal with from the other adults and if I hit 'em up too hard they'll start feeling a bit pressured.

Once Asherah makes it plain she loves the new setup, then we can move on to the next step!

BTW its funny how things jog the memory, I really thought this was my own original idea but once I got the thing all figured out I recalled my late and much missed Dad had a similar arrangement for a foldaway toolbench he put in a narrow hallway. So in a way that makes this rather special for me, he taught me so much including my love for trains.

This town is nuts with the OSU-Michigan thing. I sure wish my Pitt Panthers were good enough to have a game that matters, but at least my Steelers have a title.

Sold the house in W Lafayette, and am closing on our new house today (at 8 am--Closing officer has tix to big game). Will be checking train stores in the area over the next few weeks. Any suggestions, Chuck?

Layout for Christmas will be an old Marx tinplate under the tree w/ tubular track.

My real layout in the basement is months away from being STARTED. Lots of work left to be done despite the closing today. Will be holding money back from builder until all is finished. He's using my train area for his table and mitre saws, so I'm real eager to see him finish asap.

Well, no matter what happens in football today, I'm a big winner. We sold our house and are buying a nice one. Wife's new job is going well. Yes,, God has blessed our family immeasurably.

And if I don't speak to you all beforehand, Happy Thanksgiving.

Chief, I think I'll be experimenting with a cornbread-grits stuffing this year. Any thoughts?

Yes, indeed it is Saturday morning, November 18, 2006 in Buckeyeland the home of the BIG GAME.   This is the first time in 103 years that the Buckeyes and the Wolverines are ranked #1 and #2 respectively. (Chief told me he remembers that first game.)  There have been some big games including OSU's 2002 win of 14-9 sending them to the National Championship Game, but Columbus has never seen anything like this game today. 

The SHOE, which incidentally is on the National Register of Historic Places,  is sold out with 105,000 fans to witness the game.   Ticket prices exceed prices garnered for the World Series and are approaching the prices for the Superbowl.

It has been  reported that the Michigan Football Coach Lloyd Carr will only be dressing 20 players for the game.  The rest of the players will have to learn to dress themselves!

The numbers 22, 31, 40, 45 and 27 all hang inside the SHOE honoring the six Heisman Trophies won by OSU players.  Archie Griffin won the Heisman twice, the only player so honored. (BTW, he's a train guy.)

ESPN branded Ohio State-Michigan the greatest rivalry in sports history. Ali-Frazier was second.

Went down to BARRYs TRAIN SHOP and got 2 new MTH premire KAIERS BEER cars. KAIERS was brewed in MAHANOY CITY PA the hometown of my wife so I had to buy one.
JELECTRIC, I saw the MTH READING T1 you got off BARRY, NICE loco. Good luck with it. My Lionel Cab forward came in too, but BARRY just came back from his supplier and was beat so I told him I would come back down and get it in afew weeks. I have been waiting for this since July, shipping schedules why post them?

Good morning! A beautiful day in central Alabama - cool and sunny. Today's my dad's 81st birthday. We'll go over to see them later on today to celebrate (and also so I can fix a leaky commode!)

Later on, we'll watch the Iron Bowl game with Auburn v. Alabama. Traffic on Hwy 82 will be brutal as the faithful head to Tuscaloosa. I'll enjoy the game at home on the TV.

It is cloudy and cool in SE Indiana today with temps in the 40s.  I went to the Y early today, hoping I would have a nice, quiet,relaxing day.  When I came home, the shower would not stop dripping and the day went rapidly downhill from there.  I did get the shower fixed, but a lot of other events conspired to make this a lousy day.  I hope everyone else had a better one.

I've noticed that the Chief never goes to New Jersey when he's invading the North. Perhaps the Jersey Devil keeps all Grits Carriers from the South out of New Jersey. Dennis may know more about this as he moved out of there ever since he switched to Grits as a food commodity.. Like Spanky I was unable to go to the Train Show that the other OTTS Guys went to. Going up I5 towards the Arco Arena this morning past the rail yards I got to see a couple of staem engines parked in the yard.  Don't know what they were but man they were sweet.  Old and rusty but sweet.

We had a very nice visit this afternoon from fellow forum member David Vergun (FJ and G) and two of his sisters.  As can be expected when you have layout visitors, my christmas train had an accident.  No doubt he will post a picture of that.

Marty, I missed the bigt seats as flew American.  Should have flown US Airways and let the company pay the extra $100.  I still had good flights.  No one sat next to me going to Omaha from DFW and coming from Omaha back to DFW.  RDU flight was full going to DFW and back from DFW tonight.  Got isle seats to and from DFW so I had room to pull out DVD player and watch movies.  HAve a grest flight home. 

NO MORE FLYING FOR ME UNTIL LATE JAN.   Tired of flying.   Off to Mom's tomorrow taking her a homecooked meal.  This will be out Thanksgiving with her [as she has refused to come here even with us going to pick her up].

I just realized that the Chief was not a big Browns fan.   For once we have something in common.    Glad to see you safely  back in NC where it is easier to keep track of you.

After the game, came home from the big party that had  tons of food, cold adult beverages and beautiful women dressed in Scarlet and Gray and ran the trains.   It was a great day to be a Buckeye! 

I see the dinning car is rolling in before it heads east to Blueberry Hill.
