Hey guys, not to throw a damper on the humor but there is a real nasty brush fire northeast of us, near Palm Springs, that is burning out of control and somehow 3 firefighters were killed and 2 more are critical. Damn, in one aspect, I hate this time of year.

That's terrible news, Doug. I watched firefighters earlier this week run into a burning building down the street and was thinking that's true bravery. I hope you get rain... Steadily raining here today now - too bad I can't do any of my outdoor chores. Picked our pumpkins out in the wet with the boys. They loved it. Met the bride at a local diner for lunch - she's 'researching' her next drama role as a waitress.

LOL, Chief. We have something similar for country v. city folk out here in the 'Midwest'. I guess I'm somewhere in-between. Off to work video at church for services tonight...

Chuck : I did a search for the authors of "The Great Code of the South", & found  these two highly educated Southern gentleman who really wrote it !!

Must be old age, I bought 4 WM hoppers and now can only find 3 of them, have all four boxes but can't find the 4th hopper.   It has to be around here somewhere but I gave up looking for now.  Probably turn up when I least expect it. . . .

Look in the fridge. When I can't find something where it's supposed to be, I look in our fridge. It's usually there!

Reminds me of a weekend after a NASCAR race a few years ago.  We came home and unloaded the camper.  Next AM I was ready to go to work and could not find keys.  I searched everywhere in house, on the ground, in the drive way, in the backyard, in the camper.  Finally found the keys several days later in the freezer of all places....  Must have fallen from a pocket when I was putting things back in the freezer after cleaning out the camper refrigerator/freezer.

Chief, The fire is in the area you came thru on your way down here, the worst part is it is thought to be an arson fire. If it is and they convict, no jail time just stake them out and start a brush fire.

Chief - if you could figure out a way to accurately forecast the weather you could be a rich rich man.  I think most of the time they just stick their head out the door and just take a wild guess.  They have no blomin' idea what the weather is really going to do most of the time.

No trains again last night. My daughter's school had a trick or treat event so we all went there. Wall to wall kids.  My son John threw a fit because he heard a train horn on the way in and wanted to go see the train.   He's been more than a little difficult of late. I think his mommy spoils him.

Tomorrow is supposed to be miserable up here. All the Yankee haters should be happy to hear that.

Did any one figure out who was causing all the wrinkled noses on the Oh Golly, Really forum?!

  36 and cold here today to get to 52?  Rain tonite till Sat afternoon.  Don't know if I'll go pheasant hunting tomorrow with rain and windy conditions?  That and our Game Commision doesn't put out that many pheasants anymore, and our fox and hawks pick off all the remaining ones, makes one not energetic about going.  Might have to be a full time 22 pistol packing squirrel hunter.

   Plan on running trains and hooking up lights on the layout tonite.

It is rainy and a little milder today in SE Indiana with temps reaching into the low 50s.  I went to the YMCA and balanced the checkbook AND the washing machine.  My wife was noticing it was wobbling extra badly.  All I had to was adjust one of the leveling screws.  Lucas had his girlfriend over for a while and went to a church meeting.  The three of us watched "Lost".  It was a good show.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It's a damp 44 degrees. Rained last night. Suppose to go up to 51 today, but rain later and tomorrow.

Today, we will be working on a few things around the house. Later, I will work on the layout for awhile, and run the trains for some relaxing time. I have to make some new braces for the upper level extention.

Pretty soon, I will be going back up to the surgeon, for my 6 month check up. Time has gone fast. Still have sore muscles and some pain. Have to watch what I lift, with my right arm. But, all in all, I feel good and am eating well. Sleeping great.

I will leave you with this thought, Chief....us Yankees don't want to come down South, because you are having the SAME weather as us !!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning from central Alabama where it's raining, dreary and chilly this AM. I'm enjoying a steak biscuit from Hardees with my coffee (my M.D. would have a cow! ) but I only do this once a week. Moderation, etc. etc.

On a serious note, a local kid who was a star athlete in high school is being laid to rest today after being killed in Iraq. Great kid, just a year older than my son. All local flags at half-mast, community is really rallying around the family. That's the good part.

The part that angers me is this so-called "Westboro Baptist? Church?!?!" has sent faxes to the local churches, proudly announcing their plans to picket the funeral (to be held at First United Methodist Church, across the parking lot from my church). This cult often disrupts funerals with hateful signs ( I will not repeat them). I'm angered by the sheer gall and stupidity of these people and equally saddened that they are so blind. I have to pray for them, that their eyes will be open to the love, not hate, of God, and for their protection. Folks, all kidding aside, this IS Alabama! You don't come down here and disrupt any family's funeral! I pray for the safety of these people - I'd hate to see someone do something stupid and get themselves hurt, or even killed. You couldn't find a jury in the state that would convict them. At least the Freedom Riders will be here to serve as a buffer.

Sorry about the rant. I'm not being political - just puzzled and angry at the behavior of this small group. I have no doubt God will have something serious to say to them one day.

They sure have his Teeth! Dr.John- I think those People from Westboro should be arrested if they plan to disrupt that funeral for any reason & pay a hefty fine as well. Especially since they are a cult & probably have a dispicable leader as such. While there is such a thing as Free Speech in our Country, some go too far & over the boundry with it.Free Speech is responsible Speech & not what they are attempting to do here.  Finally, I'll be able to go to the OTTS Meeting tonight after about six months since the last one I've been to? Once again at daughters with the two granddaughters.  Wife and daughter at Drs.  It is starting to look like the new granddaughter may not wait for the scheduled delivery on Monday.

Fianally finished putting the 6419 crane tender back together after the repaint.  Had to get some clips at York that hold the trucks on.

Thinking of changing the name of my RR before I start lettering.  Have some other undecorated cars to letter also, so want to be sure before I do it.

Dr. John, That group that calls itself a church, picketed a funeral in our area.  They were not well received.  How they can act this way in the name of God is beyond me.

Good morning from a wet and cold Chicago where I had to come in the office at dawn to prepare for a just-completed meeting with our president. Never knew trains ran so early - I was thinking what do all these people do for a living that they have to be downtown so early.

I am so sad about that funeral and Westboro attempting to co-op local churches.  And claiming to be Baptist. They showed up at a local funeral a few towns over earlier this year. There was a huge group of motorcyclists 'escorting' the family and chasing them out. Lots of cops and TV cameras. An incredible ruckus.

      I can't believe you are asking what he died for. He served his country proudly. Nobody twisted his arm to join up. Soldiers die so that civilians won't have to. It's as simple as that. That's the best explaination I can give. I'm just glad there are so many young men (and women) willing to put their lives on the line to serve this great country. Makes me damn proud of them. And yes, I served from 1967-70 in the big green machine. If you know anything about history, you'll know where I served at.
