Morning all.  Windy but real warm day here.  Fed neighbor's cats and checked the pond.  Lazy day.  Mitch, the Yanks will say GRITS will hold your engine together.  I know the guys at the shop at Miss Edna's use superglue.  Chat later.

Chief - Thanks for the tip about Super Glue.  I have some Super Glue that I have used on another occassion.  It is purple until it dries, which helps you see if all surfaces are coated.

LAZ - I saw the Atomix at York too.  If the Super Glue does not work I mave have to order some of the Atomix.

I will have to order a boiler front/face plate the next time I order or pick up some parts.  I remember Olsen's had some repro items on their site.  I am pondering on how to easily set up a failsafe way to insure I don't pull a bonehead move like this again.   Rewiring into blocks is the long term answer in the short term I have decided I will put some track bumpers in strategic locations to stop the loco if I am dumb enough to do it again.

Thanks for all the advice and your condolences.

Mitch

Good afternoon from a warm and sunny northeastern Illinois - a beautiful day. just home from working today's church services on one of the cameras. Bought the boy to and from his electric guitar lesson and the daughter is off at Great America for some sort of Halloween fest. Now off to set up the mighty castle in the church parking lot for the little ones to come by and get candy for 'Trunk or Treat' - we're decorating the van too - I'm a king (think the creepy Burger King figure) and the bride is Sleeping Beauty - got a mattress on the van roof. The youngest is a knight. The oldest two are not interested. Took me all day to figure out how to reset the clock on the microwave oven. Blanky blank instructions. I've got another cough - thank goodness for the extra hour as I was up all night. I was perusing my Olsen's catalog - I think they have exactly what you need, Mitch.

Hi all! Beautiful day today - cool with the sun shining. Leaves are really coming down.

Our Fall Festival at the church is Tuesday night. The Methodist church next door has "Trunk or Treat" so lot of people attend both. The downtown merchants also have a candy walk, so if any kids miss out on a major sugar rush, it's their own fault! Should be fun!

Good evening,

Not a lot happening here.  Granddaughters are due to arrive this evening for a few days.

Going to post some pictures of the new Reading Passenger cars on SPF.

The weather is still cool and windy here, it is supposed to warm up tomorrow, I hope so.

Jim, That set of screw drivers should do the job for you.

Jon, looks like you live in a nice area.

Laz, at least you saw some pheasants, I stopped hunting them many years ago because they disappeared around here.  On the first day of small game it used to sound like a war had started, now you rarely hear a shot.

Doug - Thanks. I checked Olsen's on-line catalog and they do have what I am looking for.  I will order when I have some other parts that I need.  My wife talked to her friend who moved to Chicago in August.  We may be heading up your way for a visit over the Winter or in the Spring.  If we do, I'll be in touch.

Back from In-laws'.  Chicken and rice, butter beans, cornbread [like my wife's with cream style corn in to make it moist] and sweet ice tea.  Packing to go to the retired pilot's early tomorrow.  He told me by phone he has gone to "gro" and bought shrimp and steak.  Guess we will eat good.  Later

John--

We bought this place as a fixer upper 16 years ago, heavily timbered on 5 acres, it's our little slice of heaven.  Lots of work in the spring & fall but well worth it, no neighbors except for the deer/turkey/raccoon's/hawk's and once in awhile eagles.  If any of you have seen the movie the Money Pit----- that's us except our progress has been s l o w and we have a long way to go.  What I would really like to do is make the basement biggerWhistling [:-^], probably won't happen.

Good afternoon everyone,

We played soccer all day. Good weather, just a tad too windy. CNW1995 I was trying to find that costume, but I decided that I am going to stay home and scare people. Well, off to have dinner.

Good evening all,

It is mild and dark in SE Indiana tonight with temps tomorrow in the 70s.  We went to the big band concert today.  It was good.  I also cleaned out the gutters.  I got to run some of the standard gauge tonight.  It was a slow day.

I hope everyone had a good day.

Keep on training,

Did a short 3 mile hike at Lone Elk Park in St. Louis County - nice park.  It was a cubscout thing and the boys had fun.  Saw 11 female elks with the alpha male/buck and also saw a few other bucks hanging around here and there in the woods.  Saw about 6 to 7 female deer, but no males.  Also saw a bunch of ducks, a ring snake, a black snake, and some snake holes down by a lake, so probably copper heads were around somewhere.  We didn't see any timber rattlers, but they are also found in the park.  Then went over to our friends' house and we all went out for dinner.  Their hamster died, so their kids were pretty sad, but they are already thinking of names for a new one.  Too tired for trains today.  Have to work on it tomorrow and then some Tuesday!!!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Late evening all...

Finally back from another loooong trip to NYC. All went well. Going back in about 2 weeks for the Grand Central layout install for the Christmas season.

Had son's 13th birthday party today. Took him and his buddies for bowling, laser tag, and arcade games at an entertainment center here. They had a great time, but after last week's trip I was worn out. Got home in time to watch the NASCAR race and the C'Boy's win over Carolina. For once they looked pretty good. Hope it lasts a while.

No time to read backwards too far, so hope all is well with the C'Pot gang.

Regards, Roy

No one shoots them for amusement.  They are destructive or used for food.  Guess you are a vegetarian.

Good morning everyone.

A rotten weekend to be sure, but what the heck, it's behind us.

Finally starting to feel a little better. Good enough to snap about 40 pics of the layout yesterday afternoon. I'll have them put on a CD today and then will post some of them soon. Should I post in Sunday Photo fun or separately?

Just got done looking over some very interesting door layouts over on Thor's site. The kids and I have been given the big green light for a second layout in our train room. I intend to use O27 tinplate track and switches for the layout, which will be a small one (3' x 6' - 8'). This one is going to be portable so we can take it outside or even to shows. The hardest part may be deciding on what layout design to pick. Thor has so many good ones!

I think once you wear a deer as a hood ornament you might change your tune. They cause millions of dollars of damage every year to cars/trucks and the crop damage to farmers is significant.

Laz,

It's been a while since we've seen any photos of your layout. How's it coming along?

Deer hunting has been an increasing issue up here with landowners/hunters. Each town has different laws pertaining to hunters use of private property. Frankly, I think both sides have valid reasons for their beliefs and concerns.

I love to hunt, whi is it animals taste even better when you kill and process them yourself!Wink [;)]I do not kill animals for sport, but I repect them the way God intended it and only kill animals if you are to eat them, use them for a useful purpose(fur, oil, etc..),  or they are a threat to society, quite simply said! With hunting deer, you are under all those reasons...Smile [:)]

Good morning all,

It is sunny and warm in SE Indiana with temps heading to the 70s today.  This is supposed to be the best day of the week for the weather as it heads down hill after that.  I hate the change back to standard time.  The daylight ends quick enough as it is.  As far as the "deer" question is concerned, the only good ones are green and have John as their first name.  We almost hit one Saturday night coming home from the soccer dinner.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all, As a member of People Eating Tasty Animals I have enjoyed the flavor of a number of Deer, Elk, Bear, Possum (Don't like this one very much), and many other assorted furry creatures.  Not much into sport killing, like Chief says, taking out the destructive ones.  Otherwise, I love having the critters around.  We watch the squirrels play and deer forage, but if anything crosses the line, like a squirrel trying to get into the house, he's DEAD.

On the train front, not much to report.  I have a pulled muscle in the back from all that driving and heavy lifting.  Gonna take it easy for  a few days and get to laying track when my back lets me.  One of the stores I visited had the Polar Express "Toy Fair" box car for $69.00, I noticed it on the bay for over $125., guess I should have picked it up.

Anyway, have a great day everyone.

I've always wanted to hunt, but where I live now--Indiana--there's only deer for big game, and I can't stand the taste.  When I move somewhere where I can get some pronghorn, elk, or buffalo, I'll start hunting.  I have no problem with hunting,  do what you want.  But the radicals on both sides, as on any issue,  tend to annoy and frustrate us in the middle.  Wanna eat venison-great.  Wanna eat leaves--great.  Let's just always keep the discouse civil.

When it's open season on black angus I'll bust out my 30-30 and bag me a herd!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It's a frosty 33 degrees and sunny. Going up to a warm 70 today and sunshine. This is going to be a nice day.

Today, I think I will cut the grass on more time. The front and back could use it. Maybe, not the side yard and hill. It looks like a good day to be outside.

Sunday Photo Fun was very good, yesterday. A lot of great pictures.

Time for the Dining Car and breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Good morning from a sunny and warming Chicago where it's supposed to be the most beautiful day of the week. Trunk or treat went well last night - the castle looked great; the children had a good time; the bride and her friend (Sleeping Beauty and Belle) posed for lots of pictures w/ little princesses. Gave out 20 bags worth of candy.  See, model railroading skills do come in handy!  Leaves finally starting to fall off the trees - just in time for the town's pickup to end. Put in an order a Philadelphia Corgi Birney to go with the Bowser powered truck. You're always welcomed, Mitch, I'm about 45 miles out of the city though.

Doug,

Glad to read that the castle was a success. Tomorrow is supposed to be close to 70 degrees here. By far, the warmest Halloween that I can remember.
