Good news regarding your Doc visit. Sorry about the driving part. You are up and about a lot more than when my friend had his quad bypass. He ended up with blood vessel infections in his leg where they harvested the vein for the bypass.

You will be pleased to know that Prince Bernhard received a nice 3 column Obituary writeup in the Dallas Morning News today, particularly noting his service as an Allied pilot during WWII and his leadership in the rebuilding of the Netherlands after the devastation of the Nazi occupation.

Nice day here again. Got the pool pump loose and disassembled, but could not get one of the bearings off the rotor shaft (including heating the bearing with a torch), so I had to give in and take it to a motor rebuilder. Good news is they will replace bearings, clean it up, reassemble, and test for $68. Lots better than $200 for a new one. Bearings would have cost $25 or so anyway.

I'm preparing for yet another school train tour. This time it's for Psychology class. We're learning about childhood development and will be discussing the role that toys have with children. The students have been asked to bring in toys to class on Monday. I, however, won't be doing so. Instead, we'll be walking over to my house for a tour of my collection. This isn't a big group, just the teacher, an intern and the four (yes, only four) other students who take the class besides myself (all girls).

I may be losing it guys. Over the last few nights I have totally dissambled the train layout and am starting over. I put it up really quick last winter because the trains had been in storage for about 10 years I think.
I just got the latest Scenic Express catalog....my oh my....lots of goodies.
I also ordered some 72' streamliners from Marty at Mapa for my L&N E-7.
I may send this unit into the shop for railsounds , dont care much about command, control. but I do like sound.I have three levels planned, with 2 tracks on each level. I salvaged about 250' of Gargraves track, and that may be enough. I still have the 6x24 hanging layout so I CAN run trains. Buckeye, not talking about an online video. OH BTW, check out BPS online and Rick Clunn standard speed reels. $59. 8 ball bearings. I have several and ordering a couple more. Regularly $99. Lowest they had been on sale each Christmas was $79. Get you a couple. Take the side plate off [with a twist of a thing on the side] and put all the brakes on. Will throw a lure for a mile. Dressed and ready to go to other Dr. Frankie is picking me up at 8:45. When we get back, think I'll get him to take me to train lady's for a visit. Got Wildlife Enforcement Christmas party tonight. It has be a while since I've posted, I've actually just been lurking in the shadows. I've really been fighting bronchitis with asthma thrown in for good measure, I haven't been to the Doc for 4 years but I'm sure making up for it now. What really got my attention 3 nights ago was waking up chocking and not being able to inhale for 30-45 seconds, that got everyone's attention and that has happened 3 more times. I think I'm on the mend but very tired and weary of coughing and this has been going on for over a week!

Roger--you and I are looking for the same thing in the video market although I already have a very good digital camera. If you are only going to take digital stills you may not need the video side, almost every salesman has told me that video cameras are OK for digital stills but mostly overated. I subscribe to Mac World and they just ran an article (November issue) about MinDV Camcorders and I'll just include their recommendations in order of best to less best.

Thanks for your input on the video camera guys. After looking at CNET, looks like a pretty good site, I'll probably go for the Canon ZR85 based on features, cost, and reviews, want to stay around $350 max. I'm looking at the digital to replace an older tape type Sony that my wife complains about the size and weight every time we go on vacation. The stills ability is just a plus feature for me.

@wrmcclellan; nice to see they didn't miss the best part of the story. He was in the British airforce during wartime and was not allowed to fly because of him being the man of our queen. He simply got another passport and helped bombing and fighting along the other brave men. He stayed like that his whole life. The last few years he even used newspapers to vent his opinions about the lawsystem and other things normal "royals" would shut up about.
But he was 93 years old, and even those people eventually are called to come upstairs oneday..

Today I've bought a roofwindow for the trainroom. It will be built in as soon as I have some spare time. I also made my choise of isolation, styrofoam. It can easily be cut, installed and when I bang my head on it, it's soft. Since my attic is 190 on the highest point, I'm into banging my head now and then when I'm at work on the layout..
The whole setup should reduce heatloss, condensation of watervapour and last but not least, get some natural light into the room and give me the oppurtunity to get fresh air in when summer heats the attic..

Sorry Tom, didn't have the time to watch your films yet, I'll as soon as possible..

Cardiologist said I was doing outstanding for what I had done and it was only 3 weeks. Took me of off another med that the surgeon had put me on. Said I did not need it. He did not understand the 6 more weeks of not driving. He said I would know when it was ready. No pain in the breastbone and free movement in my arms and neck without pain in the chest. He also thinks this cured my stomach problem without removing gall bladder. So, I feel real good about this visit. Off to a big meal tonight. God bless all.

Chief, boy everything sounds great!!! Are you sure it was a doctor that said you couldn't drive? Or was it North Carolina's finest that wears those Smokey Bear hats and drives those cars with the Christmas lights??[?][?][?]

For those looking at miniDV cameras. I have been suffering with a JVC GR-DVM90 for the last couple of years. It spent 18 months of the last 24 in the shop. Back to JVC 6 times and they did not know how to fix it. I finally forced them to give me a replacement, but am now afraid to use it except for playback of the vieos I made.

I would recommend that any camera you buy that you inquire where it goes for repairs and how many regional repair centers they have. These things are too complicated to be repaired locally. JVC turnaround ran 8-10 weeks. The JVC also had a very irritating feature- any error messages on the viewfinder screen are also recorded onto the tape which is idiotic. I would rather have the poor quality video vs poor video with a permanent big blue error message window in the center of the picture. I lost a lot of vacation video this way. The JVC also could not handle any humidity. Take it from indoors to outdoors and the moisture message comes on and shuts down the camera. Sometimes 4 or 5 hours later after being brought outside it might work.

For those considering the Apple iPOD and many other of the MP3 players, be aware that the batteries are not replaceable and not seviceable. Once the batteries do not hold a charge - it cannot be fixed. The NiCads last about 2 years (about the same time of the extended service policy the stores offer). This means your $250+ investment is garbage.

Got the pool pump working finally. On to the garage door!
