Good morning,

Cool and raining here.  Last night was the first HS football league game.  We won 41-7, after they scored first time they had the ball for a 7-0 lead.  Also the first game we had nice weather.  It rained for the three non-league games.

Having some internet problems here.  Over the past two weeks we have been losing our connection intermitantly for a while and then it comes back.  Spent some time on the phone yesterday afternoon with a support guy and after running some tests, he says our modem is causing the problem.  I disconnected everything then, this morning tried again and all is working.  Guess I will have to look for a replacement cable modem as I own this one.  Of course he suggested that I rent one from Comcast.  Cable bill is high enough without that added.

Colin, nice to see you back on the pot, looks like school is keeping you busy, or is it the girlsQuestion [?]  Laugh [(-D]

Tom, It sounds like the new job is keeping you on the move without a lot of layout time.  As long as you get the weekends off guess that's not to bad.

Colby,  Thanks for responding to my question.  That timetable is definitely a keeper.

Doug,  Sounds like the Chief jinxed the operations at the layout.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

All have a good weekend,

As usual I forgot a few things.

John, That video is way cool.  I hope you keep the speed down as it looks like a long way down to the floor if you have a derailment.  One other thing, I think the water heater is way out of scale. Laugh [(-D]  Laugh [(-D]

On the Nascar comments, you guys hit the nail on the head.  Why they even bother to call them Chevys, Fords and Dodges is beyond me, they all look alike and are basicly custom built race cars.  It was more interesting when they looked like cars you saw on the street, even thought they greatly modified them under the skin.

I think I covered everthing now.

All have a good weekend,

There is way too much work of keeping track of the girls!!!!

Yeah, there is a lot of school work, especially for Biology. Every night we have to do a 3 page packet or write a complete outline of a chapter. In the other subjects, there isn't too much work .

John..... This may be useful information.....We rent a cable modem and once in a while we have to disconnect power from the modem and router and then wait a few minutes and plug them in about 2 minutes apart. Once this is done, it seems to reset the system and it works better. I really don't think there's anything wrong with your modem. Just a guess.

A question for those more knowledgable with computors than I.Question [?]

When I try to view a maunal on the Lionel website I can not get it to switch over to the Adobe Reader program.  I click on the manual, the screen for the pfd comes up with the address in the header the little blue bar on the lower left flashes but the download does not start.  I've tried pre-opening Adobe and other things I could think of.  I have the current version 7.0.8.  The strange thing is that I tried to open an elctrical diagram and it worked.  Any sugestions are appreciated.

Good morning from a dreary, gray and misty northeastern Illinois. I'm all dressed up in my paintin' clothes and guess I won't be going outside. Hard to work on a roof when it's wet. Got a box that I think it my long-awaited 520 - will go down to run it after this posting.

What an adventure getting home yesterday: Metra stopped all trains for a tornado warning. Never had that happen - it was neat to watch the storm on a teeeny tiny weather map on my neighbor's cell phone. Then after a few hours, we were released and as we were speeding home, we broke down; so we sat in the dark for a while; never before heard them turn off an F40 and restart it - just like rebooting a computer I guess. But we made it home - 89 minutes late (as the automated voice shared with us).

The daughter and bride are off buying a dress for homecoming - not looking forward to that bill - will be more than the 520.

I have to occasionally power off our DSL network router for a bit like the cable modems - it resets.

Sounds like the Chief had a good visit.

Great video, John!

John, I enjoy modern NASCAR - following Dale Jr. I dimmly remember watching Petty. If you think the cars are look-alike now, wait'll you see the 'Car of Tomorrow' - maybe Toyota'll shake things up.

Roger, wish you were nearby - sounds like you're a wiring whiz with this layout. I'll see if I can duplicate what's happening - if Reader is working with other apps, it's probably something with Lionel

Yeah, I left early from work yesterday in St. Louis due to the storm coming and ended up missing most of it, although it was a little heavy coming down while I was on the highway.  Figured out my wiring puzzle for the basement.  How many amps does a layout usually need?  Maybe 1 or 2 or so?  If an 80 Watt Transformer is running on 120 volts, then it's about 0.667 amps, I think.  Want to make sure I have plenty of power in the play room area for my future layout(s).  Raining all day here.  Need to track down some 15 amp breakers that fit my 9 year old main panel.  TTFN

Roger, the same thing happens to me often when I use Adobe Reader. I don't have a real fix, but sometimes if I close down my browser, re-open then start over that works. I've no clue why this happens. Like you, I have the current version.

Jim,

Keep in mind that the wattage ratings on the newer transformers are output ratings.  These things are not terribly effecient so I would multiply the wattage by at least 1.25 when you calculate the input current.  To be on the safe side why not plan on a dedicated circuit for the layout power.  Just another comment, the older transformers such as the postwar ZW were rated at input power, that is why they don't put out quite as much as one might think they do.

Chuck,

I am not sure he is right, but the he may be.  The funny part is I don't have to reset the modem for it to start working again.  If it is late at night I just forget for the evening, don't even turn the computer off and when I try the next day it is usually working.  I am still not sure it isn't their network.  Oh well it is great when it's working.  My daughter has a problem with her DSL in that whenever they have a momentary power interuption, which seems to be at least once a week in her area, she has to go throught the whole reset routine with the modem, router & computer.  So I guess non of the present systems are perfect.

Thanks everyone who watched my video !! It doesn't get anymore ameteurish than mine !! Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

I don't usually run my trains too fast, but that hill is bran new & 4 motors were going & trying to get it with the camera & timing & all, whew !! That takes practice !! I got more of the hot water heater in it than the train !!

Oh, when I meant I had trouble with the program, I meant I redownloaded my camera program & when I did that, I found out Fugi went from my original Kodak program to their own. I had all kinds of trouble & finally got the Kodak one back & along with Photo bucket, I got it to work again. I've only had Internet for a couple years now, so I really learned everything or a lot from posting on this forum, mostly !!   I would really like the videos to get more popular, but they are pretty complicated & time consuming.

Well, thanks again guys !!

A question for Mitch,  A while back you recomended Simple Green for removing paint from train items, did you use it on metal or plastic?  Did you use it full strength as it comes from the gallon jug?  I have a metal crane car and a plastic crane tender that I want to strip, repaint and letter for my RR.

If anyone else has a suggestion, feel free to offer it, I've never tried this before.

Nothing fancy, planning to use Weaver spray paint and rub on lettering.

Hey guys I got to meet and have breakfast with the Chief !!

Bluntly, however, I don't think I would let him make my iteneray plans though.....  Can't say he left on a big Silver bird,,, It was more like a group of little ones...  I mean after all Palm Springs to Raliegh  maybe 3 or 4 hours.   But they had to stop for refueling a number of time it seems...  Palm Springs.........Phoenix..........Charlotte..........then Raliegh ?  Maybe he was looking for trains?

The rental car he had wasn't bad, but he made mention of having to drop some people off and picking up some packages on the way to the airport.

I can understand trying to meld in with the locals, but really I wasn't impressed when I arrived at the motel

However, the lobby and room itself wasn't quite so bad inside,  (I felt sorry , and thought I would help him with the luggage)

Chief did insist on buying breakfast, and I certainly didn't want to diappoint him.  Here too, pretty much as expected .....Breakfast,  his remineded me of the plaster in our new room,  I think it might have work better certainly would have been a lot cheaper

my breakfast......

Actually, had a great time.  A real Gentleman, looking forward to the next opportunity.

Good evening all,

It is dark and mild in SE Indiana with temps in the 50s.  It has been busy here lately.  I reffed a U-10 soccer game and then watched the high school teams both lose today.  Then my wife wanted me to hook up the DSL connection tonight.  It is working and it is faster and we can use the phone while on the internet.  I skimmed the previous pages, but I can not remember any specifics.  I hope everyone has a good evening and weekend.

Keep on training,

Well, I finally figured out how to connect my XBOX360 to my new laptop. My dad is watching the Notre Dame game, so I don't want to touch the connection until he is finished. I won't be able to play at the soccer game tomorrow, I have a nasty cold, so this will be the second game I will miss. I have been feeling pretty bad this last week.

Chief, You didn't sleep til 10, physically it was only 7. Sleepy [|)] Glad to see you made it home ok.

Got a question for you guys that use the RealTrax or Scaletrax. I am considering using it for the Christmas layout this year but was wondering, how do you create "S" curves ? Tubular track you just reverse your track pins or with certain brands you can use flex track. Is it available in left and right curve ?  Question [?]

Tofu is okay if it's disguised properly - first you feed it to the hogs, then you make the hogs into a nice roast etc....  Shock [:O]

Rained all day yesterday, off an on.  Spent all my allowance already.  Went to the train store and picked up 2 more O27 switches and 4 more pieces of straight, now have enough to put my track plan together.  Need to buy a foam board - I'm going to try and just screw it down to the foam - should last pretty good with 3/4 inch long screws for just a temporary layout.  Once I get the foam (was raining yesterday so took the van out, not the pickup) I'll start snapping a few picks as we go along.  I'm really looking forward to this!

Gonna work on the basement and if it doesn't rain any more today, I'll mow tonight (maybe).  Grass is going wild already.  Offered the kids 10 cents each for dandylions, but they didn't take me up on it.  Bunch of yellow flowers right now....  Maybe I'll make them do it for free!  Evil [}:)]Wink [;)]

PS - I got my water tower and pond with bridge, as well as some plastic trees etc in a lot from ebay, thanks for the headsup.  The water tower was listed as poor condition, but intend to glue wood on it like Tom did.  One leg was broken in the past and somebody glued it up with some crappy glue.  I think I might try to replace the legs with some balsa wood, need to make a jig for it first though.  Should make an intersting project for some Sunday this Winter.

Doug,  now you know the burden's OTTS members must bear every time the Chief shows up in this state.  He wants to be wined and dined to the max.

RealTrax, unlike tubular,  goes eitherway in a curve without any changing of pins or other modifications.

Good afternoon guys,

Chief, Nice to hear you had a good trip and a good flight.  Maybe your complaints hit the right ears.

Colin,  Well if your Dad is a Notre Dame fan, I guess he is happy, I could not believe how Michigan State fell apart in the 2nd half.

Jim,  Your comment about offering 10 cents a dandelion reminded me that when my two older children were small, I used to pay them 1 cent a dandelion.  My daughter still brings that up as an example  of the tough father that I was.  As she was always the one looking for money she really did do it for that and dug out a ton of them.

Son & grandson went to the Dover race today.  Got an offer of tickets and a seat on a vender's bus, hard to turn that down.  I imagine they got fed as well.

Got to run the wife is getting impatient as we are going to visit her Dad in an assisted living facility.

Maybe check back in later.
