Good Evening Everyone !!

Chuck : thanks for the tip on the Travel channel !! That's one I can get ! The last couple nights or so, on Nat. Geographic, they had a show about Canada's worst train disaster. A pass train, VIA, collided head on with a CN freight train. That was really a bad one. That happened 20 years ago, in 1986. It said the crew of the freight train fell asleep & went through a signal. It should be on some more.

Hope Don can get hooked up with The Chief & Doug & hope your MIL's surgery goes well too.

Hope everyone has a nice evening !

Thanks, John

Oh, guess what else happened ? !! I got that check from, we believe, the MTH survey from this spring somewhere I think ! They called about 2 months ago saying they would be mailing it out, I thought right away, & I gave up on it after I didn't get it in a couple weeks, but here it is in time for the next train show !!! Hello from western Mass.  Lows are expected in the low 40's by morning.  The trees are turning fall colors and I'm beginning the planning process for the winter projects on the layout.

Things I have to finish up from last year.

1. wire some twenty DZ switch machines
2.  Clean the track
3.  Clean the wheels
4.  Lub all the engines
5.  Install a cab light in my AtlasO RS-1

Things I would like to start this winter

Expand the layout and add a few bridges and a grade
Start ballesting the track.

Hey Tonight on the History channel.  Something about trains at 10 PM eastern.

Regards,

Gary

Hey guys - had to run the furnace last night!  Then, I forgot to shut it off this morning - Char was pretty mad when she got home and the house was (gasp!) about 77 degrees!  She likes it best at about 67 degrees!  Sounds like a bunch of guys are gonna have fun at York again this year.  Wish I could go.  In-laws coming this weekend, so not working OT.  Nice to have 2 days off in a row occasionally.  Wonder when my Lionel Halloween Docksider, Caboose and Gondola will ship out???

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Sky Harbor is kind enough to provide free wireless so I thought I'd check in and say hi.  Hope all are fine.  Nice find at the yard sale!  No furnace for me until November!  No matter what.

scratchbrules - great find.  No loco to match the tender ??  I had a nice Scout set once that I gave away to BIL and his live in for under their Christmas tree.  They split up a few years ago.  I wonder what ever happened to the trains...

Morning to all. Very cool here today, currently 47.  I agree with MartyE, no firing up the furnace or heat until at least November or until the temp goes below freezing at night.  I can;t imagine the proce of fuel oil this winter.  Ouch... there go  few more trian dollars.

No train time last night.  I have some other projects that I need to get done before I get out to the layout.  I have a meeting all day today, but I might get home in time enough to mow so I don;t have to mess with it this weekend.  We are going to St. Michaels MD with some friends on Saturday.  It should be fun.  Sunday we have a family birthday dinner for my nephew.

Well, take care.

Scratch,

Great find! I bought one of those crane cars a few weeks ago for $10.00. About the same condition as yours.

Big Poppi hit number 50 last night, but the Sox still lost. Talk about a disappointing season. First to worst in 2 months!

My new 2055 motor. You remember, the one I bought for no good reason.

2055 motor2

Another nice day here in New England. Highs in the low 70's for the next few days. I love the fall. Too bad it has to be so short.

I spoke to the Chief yesterday. It went something like this:

"Hey chief, did I wake you?

Uhhh, no.

Oh. That's too bad. What are you doing?

I'm typing.

Typing? What are you typing?

I'm on the internet.

Oh, so you're just *%#@ing around?

Yeah. I'll call you right back. This @#%*** hotel is charging me by the *&%$# minute to use the @#$&* internet!"

Always a pleasure to talk to the Chief.  Smile [:)]Big Smile [:D]

Have a great day, everyone.

Now Jon, don't pick on the Chief, he is up to two finger typing now and has been for at least the last 3 weeks.Smile [:)]  Not much happening in the train world these days, at least at my house.  I was going to start getting the benchwork together.  Question: would you start the benchwork prior to having the fastrack yet?  I have the order in, but am waiting on Lionel to get the switches to market.  I used the RR Tracks software and being that Fastrack is rigid and limited on movement, I thought that I could at least get the main benchwork done and that the track could be added when it gets here.  Then I would be able to scenic it.

Doug, yeah, our Hobby Lobby is limited too.  They have two Lionel sets, and several K-Line items, and the rest is N and HO.  I picked up a bunch of scenic stuff at 50% off and better than I could get it on line.  An example of the K-line that they have is the Pennsy Plymouth Switcher with caboose, the price is $179.  CTT has several advertisements with it at less than half that amount.  Just have to know your pricing.  The girl in charge of that section said that they are making other stocking arrangements as to bringing other manufacturers products, we shall see.

Dennis--

Ahh ha--I didn't know Chief was up to two fingers on the keyboard, that's progress to be sure.

Benchwork. I would go ahead and get started, it is time consuming but with it completed you could go ahead and do some templates before the track arrives and see if you do like your plan.

I probably changed my track plan 5-10 times in the one room before I was happy. To my eye it looked totally different than it did on paper. I even ran trains on it to see if I liked it before I made it permanent, yes, I'm a little anal about having it right before it becomes permanent.

Just something for you to consider.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It's a cold 41 degrees and foggy. Going up to 67 today and sunny.

I slept a little longer this morning. No alarm. Watched the two railroad shows last night. Both were good. The one on at 10 pm was about the U.P. and the Bailey rail yard in Nebraska. Big. They also showed how they build engines at a Locomotive plant.

Today I have a few projects to work on around the house. No rush. I want to spend a few hours working in the train room. I have to build some shelves to put some trains on. Looking for some bookcases at garage sales that I can cut down. I have a plan.

I hope Chief is having a nice visit to CA. He likes Mexican food.

The Dining Car is open. Breakfast. See ya later.

Y'all have a great day.

Good morning all,

It is sunny and in the 40s with temps heading to the high 60s in SE Indiana today.  The boys are on the road again and the girls are home tonight with both a varsity and JV game.  The girls lost to a state-ranked team 6-1 last night in a make-up game.  At least no one got hurt.  I went to the YMCA for a weight work out.  Lucas had a friend over yesterday, and the tutor from school is supposed to be here tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning all,

Got my issue of the other magazine yesterday, some nice layouts.  Also got a box from Diecast direct with a bunch of vehicles from the 30's, 40's & 50's.  One is a 41 Ford Tudor in black just like one my Dad had when I was a kid.  I think I now have enough autos for three layouts.

Weather here is cool, but due for a little warm up over the weekend.

Sounds like the Chief is keeping busy.  Hope Don gets a chance to get together with him and Doug.

Don, my comment wasn't ment to be an insult.  I know I would have a problem with narrow isles. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I'm still trying to convince the wife to go along to York on Friday.  That is supposed to be her day off, but lately she has been working more often than not.

Heading out to the fitness center shortly.

Will check in later if time permits.

Good Morning All   ---  Lot of you are up pretty early today!

Unfortunatly it doesn't look good on hooking up with the Chief and Doug. Sad [:(]Censored [censored]Sad [:(]  I believe the Chief is heading to SD late Friday morning, and then leaving in early evenning returning to either PS or Las Vegas, not sure.   With MIL's surgey on Friday, if I'm lucky I might be able to get away late afternoon, and then the drive from here to SD on Friday night is a virtual parking lot for a good 3 hours.  By the time I would get there he would be gone.  And with the drive he would have on the return I wouldn't it make it later.

The weather sure has changed!  From what all of you guys have been posting looks like fall is definetly close.  The temps have really dropped here as well, forcast today is for the possibility of fog and much cooler temps this evening, maybe as low as high 50's.  Bad news is the "Day" fire which started on Labor Day is still burning out of control, (currently burned over 100k acres and only 30% contained) and now the smoke is going to be headed this way, OH JOY.

Going to son's football game this evening its their first league game.  Last week all the H.S.'s in their league lost in preseason play.  Hopefully this year our team will do better, last year won 2 games all season.

John (jefelectric) I wasn't insulted at all, I mean after, all I have a major anatonomical investment going on there.  And actually as it turned out you were right, I did have one access area that was too small only 14", was able to change that to 24, with a slight change on the layout.

Currently looking at #3 as the primary layout plan.  Advantages are maximizes distance from the door to layout, and has a staging area for a engine yard.  Want a secure engine area for the 2 Big Boys and Cab Forward we have.

Got to get to the office, and check out the new mag.  Hope you guys have a great trip to York, and the chief has a SAFE trip home.  I know Doug will show him a good time he and the guys in SD are tremendous hosts.

Marty - Does Sky Harbor still have that "blue" room in the middle of the concourse for the smokers?  Last time I was there it  looked like a scene out of a comic book, this transparent room with standing room only, and all these people in a blue cloud.

Great news that the Shuttle made it back safe!

Had to take a sick day - tummy problems.  Something I ate hates me, I guess.  Kids have a half day today, but wife is still taking off half to run errands, get van inspected etc.  They built one of those smoking aquariums where my dad used to work before he retired.  It was on the hottest side of the building with sun all day, and the temp inside would go up about 20 degrees hotter than outside!  They ended up having to put air conditioning in it as I recall.  Dad won't quit smoking Sad [:(]

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Too busy for a walk at lunch time today. It's a beauty of a day, so that's a drag.

I'm looking forward to seeing the progress Ben makes with his 2055. I hope he keeps us all updated with photos.

I am thinking of buying a soldering set. Gotta do a little research first, then hit a Radio Shack, if there any left near me.

Looks like I was repeating myself this morning.  Didn't see that duplicate when I posted?

Got my CTT today, just one day behind OGR, now I won't get any layout work done this weekend! Smile [:)]

Not much activity on the forum lately, a lot of the regulars not posting much.  Only a couple of posts today.

Guess it isn't cold enough yet.

Good afternoon from a sunny and cool northeastern Illinois. I feel like I got nothing done today but that's not true I guess: I didn't do anything I wanted to do. Did home school with the boys, bought lumber, roof shingles, mouse traps, caulk and anti-wasp spray for work this weekend, even dropped into White Castle for lunch as a special treat.

Heard from the eBay vendor about my 520 - went out today as they were apparently sick. I am looking forward to it - got the extra pantograph I had ordered from Olsen's already. Quite surprised to get the new CTT. Have to renew soon.

John, hope you have a good day off - you deserve it. Has the Chief arrived out west yet; I'm expecting his rain any minute now as he soars overhead.

John...You have a 3 day weekend???  You can get a lot done on the layout. Watch out, wife might need to wash clothes. I watched both shows last night too. I'd like to go on that American ( Orient ) Express. Lots of bucks for that one.

Today was a beautiful day. Cool, but sunny and blue skies. Looks like Chief posted in another language. Is that Southern??
