Great job!

Took kids to hobby shop.  I decided not to rip up my baked beans cars, after all America Needs Gas!  So, I ordered a repainted gondola off ebay cheap and we bought some wood things to make into vats.  They are like 1.25 inch diameter wood tubes and should do nicely.  The lady showed us some hot glue to fill them up with fake slime and blood - the glue sticks are colored green, red and white.  Once the freight car shows up, we'll figure out how to place these inside.  I think I'll have to do some work on the car, but it was only $3 - looks like no rust, but it has some metal balast inside which I guess is glued in place, so might need to think that one through.  If worst comes to worst, we can just fill it up with little pumpkins and get a different gondola or flat.

Got outbid on that last water tower too.  That guy had some weird stuff up for auction.  Some nice Marx water towers on ebay today But I'd hate to be the one to alter a rare accessory (says rare, all black?)

Here's a question - if the trucks on this car I ordered a rusty, should I just replace them or is there something that cleans them up?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Jim, rust can easily be removed from metal, as long as it aint no zinc pest. Soft brushing with a brass brush (Dremel) is my favorite method. That usually works and then polishing the metal with a Dremel in a second step.
Sand blasting is also effective, but it usually takes 15 minutes for me to set up the compressor etc, so Dremeling it away, is usually much quicker.
Last week I bought a small bottle of Rust Eater TM of the Turtle Wax company, it is red syrup-like acid mixture of phosphoric acid and some other nasties. I have derusted a very rusty screw with it as a first attempt. It works, but takes about half an hour and a lot of rubbing with a cloth, washing and rubbing. I do not think it will not be time effective.

Yes, I know the feeling of being outbid.... I especially hate those XXXX that bid on the last second and when I am already celebrating, I receive this nasty automatic email outbid notice... Anyway, there is only one way of dealing with those characters: place a higher bid yourself in advance...
Greetings
Egbert

Saw an announcement on the other forum that Lionel is going to offer a forth BigBoy engine.  The road number will be 4012 same as the one at Steamtown.  I like this engine and the free TMCC II is pretty cool, but I just can't bring myself to pre-order one.

I started captioning my photos after visiting Larry LaJambe's website.  I thought it gave a page a uniqueness to add some story to go with the scene.  Here's Larry's site...

http://www3.sympatico.ca/larry.lajambe/index.html

Go to my layout and layout photos.  Larry does a great job and is an incredible modeler.  I haven't heard much from Larry other than a far and few posts on OGR.  You would be doing yourself a favor to visit his site!

Marty - Thanks for the tip regarding Larry's layout, also your new pics are great!!  After seeing your layout and Larry's .... talk about frustrating!!  Sure envy you guys with a basement, it is one thing to not have space, can resolve that problem.  Adding rooms, moving, etc..  Now the real problem, the artistic ability both displayed on your layout and Larrys', wow!  Don't ever see anything like that happening here.

You definetly set the bar high.  Great layout and tremendous details.... I'm impressed.

Evening.  Wife home.  Got early Regional Transportation meeting at 8 AM [!!!!] tomorrow.  Cloudy but now rain.

Father-in-law uses juice from the outer shells of walnuts to remove rust.  Soaks it fro a few days in solution of water and the green to black outer shells [rinds some may call it, not the hard inner shell].  Also uses blueberry juice.  Interesting.

Later.

Thanks for the rust info - I've got some spray for taking rust off tools, but it etches the metal.  I'll try the dremel if it's needed.

Roy...With rust in it, tastes like sweet iced tea.

I used to clean rust off of chrome bumpers with Coke. Really.

Remember the real value....  Good Ol  RC would get 16 oz for the same price, then there was NEHI cola, a QUART for .10, now that was good.  Anyway Coke was thought to be habit forming because of the cocaine.

Another day in paradise here today. Worked on the layout scenery some more last night. Talked to the Chief, who was tickled pink that it was raining in Roseyville.

My nose still hurts from the line drive I took on Sunday.

Good morning all,

It is cool and clear in SE Indiana with the temps in the 60s heading to the low 80s again.  It was a beautiful night for soccer last evening.  The field was mowed, the grass was green, and the sun was shining.  The only thing missing was our team as we got pounded 13-0.  Can we say, "Ouch!"?  I was terribly disappointed.  Supposedly some of the better players did not get all their practices in and so could not play, but that was embarrassing.  Tmcc man, have you ever been in one of those games?

Lucas had a rough day in chemo, and my mom was sitting in a chair for a while yesterday.  I have a lot of meetings today, which will do something with the time today.

The one aspect of the "new" forum is not being able to scroll back to check all the prior comments while posting.  There are topics discussed here that I forget to comment on, but I do want to be counted as a "Coke" drinker.  An occasional Pepsi is fine for variety, but Diet Coke is my caffeine of choice.

Keep on training....in the free world (with apologies to Neil...Young, that is),

Mike C. from Indiana

Sorry to hear that Lucas didn't do well yesterday, Mike. I hope today is MUCH better for him.

I prefer Pepsi, but to be honest, I don't drink soda very often. Coke doesn't agree with me.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 58 degrees. Going up to a sunny 83, today. Great.

I got the front grass cut last night and still had time to sit and relax in the shade before sunset. Grass grew quite a bit. No burnouts.

Today we are going to Cambridge, grocery shopping. Lots of fun. The prices seem to move up every week. Gasoline came down but that's about it. They will probably go back up soon.

I have not run trains for a few days. I have to get down there and spend a few hours in the hot afternoons.

Coke has always been my favorite, thru the years. Must be the little bottles that did it. We still get them from the local store. Tastes better.

Well, off to the Dining car. Talk more later.

Y'all have a great day.

Hi GIZ,

Nice day here today to hit about 85.

Got to cut back forsythia today, growing wild.

JIM F., JELECTRIC pain in heel is right across middle of heel.  Comes and goes when streched goes away for a while then comes back.  Had the sciatic pain in butt in the spring went away for a while now after looking on a nerve chart it is back and down at the heel.  Dont want to go to doctor, feel I a wasting time there and he'll just tell me something I already know.  I'll give it a few more days see what happens and keep on stretching.  Just wish I could get back doing my morning runs, I miss em.

MARTY nice pics.

All have a good one.

Ah Coke - the pause that refreshes. I find Pepsi too sweet.  Another beautiful day here in Chicago. My mom goes back east tomorrow - I'll try to take her out celebrate her birthday a bit early with the boys tonight - the daughter is off to a concert at the House of Blues and the bride has a meeting - I think visiting the basement is out for the next few days as the bride is very busy...

I saw an all-silver Rail Zeppelin at the Wild West Town 'toy store' on Monday for $26. I keep thinking about it. But I'll probably keep thinking about it after finding the bank balance lower than expected this morning...

Gonna be 105 today and 106 predicted for tomorrow. So much for the cool 102 forecast of a few days back.

Spent late last night and early this morning in the attic over the back porch putting in braces for 2 new ceiling fans on the porch. One fell earlier this year. Discovered idiot previous owner of the house installed them into plastic junction boxes. When I found that I took the other one down immediately. So busy all summer did not have time to replace them. So I had to remove the old plastic boxes and replace them.

Found these great adjustable electrical box/fan brackets at Home Depot that are made by Westinghouse. Unlike the cheapie pressed metal ones of years past - these units are more substantial (thick metal) and the electrical box has riveted studs (threaded) for attaching the fan hanger. Plus the electrical box bolts/clamps onto the adjustable bracket. In the past I would cut a stud to hang the elec box on and use big screws to hold it all together. This Westinghouse gizmo saved some time and is very strong. This beast is rated for a 100 lb light fixture or a 70 lb fan.

I used to be a big Coke fan until they started messing with the formula and then I had to give up caffeine and sugar. The diet caffeine free Cokes are OK, but it is just not the same. So I drink a lot of grapefruit juice now.

Mike - I sure hope Lucas has a better day today.

LAZ - take care of that heel. I messed one of mine up a year ago hiking with the Boy Scouts and it is finally starting to feel better. I had a tendon start to calcify - I had to ditch all my shoes and wear a certain pair of walking tennis shoes for the past year. It was interesting. The doc said if I keep pressure off of it - my body would reabsorb the calcium in the tendon. Apparently that is the case.  Having your feet not work right is a royal bother.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Morning all,

I am still on call and have till Monday to worry about emergencies.  Good side of it is that I get to sleep a little later and that I am able to bring my son to his first week of school.  While I was able to see "Workin on the Railroad", it was on HO and running a layout like a real railroad, neither aspects apeal to me.  Right now I am watching Railroad Marvels on History International.  Interesting show.

Jim, thanks for the information.  I will call them to see if they still have the other GP on hand.  As to the Coke vs. Pepsi battle, in these parts, it is Coke.  We used to live in the city in which Dr. Pemberton invented Coke, which as John noted, originally had Cocaine in it, but that stopped early on.  Of course, Columbus, GA was also the home of RC for the longest time too.

Mike, sorry to hear Lucas had a bad day.  He will have many ups and downs, but kids seem to bounce back so much better than adults.  Still, it breaks your heart to see them feeling bad.  Keep up the high spirits and we will keep your family in our prayers.

God Bless,

Dennis

I wouldn't panic just yet.  How did you pay for the item?  It may take a little time for the transaction to complete, shipping, etc.  If you are that concerned a nice email to the seller might put your mind at ease.

Give it a few more days, Dave. There are a lot of variables. Like how did you pay for the item, when and how it was shipped, and the person who was selling it. Did they have a good feedback rating?

I just checked Ebays recent passed auctions for a docksider by Lionel and didn't see any won by a person with 1 or even a handfull of wins. What date did your auction end?

Roy, glad we don't have your temps.  It is very nice here today.  In the 70s with a nice breeze.

I am not really a Coke or Pepsi fan.  I drink a lot of Diet Barqs Rootbeer.  The best tasting diet soda that I have found.

Hi guys. I used my credit card thru eBay's payment screen. I never joined Pay Pal so not sure if that was it. The loco was a no bidder, and appears to be coming from a company.
