Good morning from cloudy central North Carolina. Lightning woke me up this morning before the clock alarm went off. Motorcycle stays in the garage today.

dbaker48, that looks like a nice upgrade for the Beep. I'm only a conventional runner, but have been thinking about adding sound to my Beep. The Electric Railroad has neat stuff, but their prices are just a little too steep for me. Maybe if I ever have a nice, permanent layout, I'll invest more into the electronics.

Meant to tell you the UP is really clearing the RoW along my commute route; there's some half-buried, ancient sidings that were ripped up yesterday leaving huge piles of shredded, rotting ties and bent rail.

How else to explain your misadventures & goofs?[;)][:)][:o)] Don- your son did a nice job on the Beep.Someone should make a Roadrunner sound for those things so they have a real BEEEP sound to them![;)][:)] Buckeye- Good luck on your journey south.Look out for the Grits. Answer a couple of questions regarding the Beep upgrade.....

Buckeye - The speaker came with the kit from Electronic Railroad.

The overall performance is fine. I don't know how many cars it will pull or the grade it can handle, but seems adequate so far. We plan on using it as a yard switcher, etc.

Kieth - It actually does have a "roadrunner" horn as well as a pretty good diesel sounding horn. The sounds include diesel idle, running, bell, diesel horn, and Beep horn "roadrunner". I think their might be some more, but need to check the instructions.

I know I paid more for the electronics than the engine, but I don't think that is unusual. I have no remorse. I wonder if RMT had any dummy units, might be interesting to have a BEEP appearing lashup with 3 or 4. I image could probably do that with multiple TMCC upgrades, but dont want all the cost.

I also got from Electronic Railroad a electromagnetic couple. I think I might have to drill a couple of small holes to mount them. But my tools are buried so going to have to wait on that.

Stay cool

Sorry been AWOL from coffee thread for a while or as Marines/Navy say, UA.

4 topics I have for today

1. Speeding ticket

2. Homemade bread

3. Flashback to 60s

4. Bandsaw problem

Take your pick and ignore the rest as time is money!

1. Speeding ticket. Daughter, 19, got her 2nd speeding ticket. Ugggh. But great news. When she and the officer appeared in court, the judge threw out the ticket and Sharon was proclaimed “Not Guilty” (you are never pronounced “innocent,” btw).

Why?

Read at the end of this reply to find out…

2. Tried my hand at homemade bread. Heck, if I’m grilling up some hot wings and beef bones, then why not chuck a pan of dough in as well?

It was horrible. Could it have been that I used molasses for sweetener?

That’s the last I try at making bread. I’ll stick to my bowl of grits. Hee hee.

Here’s the bread…

3. Ed Reutling, some of you know, found a photo that’s near and dear to me.

When I saw that photo I had a flashback to the 1960s/early 70s, when I used to watch a similar little diesel in action on the south shores of the Mohawk River in NY, working a quarry.

I deeply regret never having taken a photo of it in action.

Just now, Ed R. was kind enough to send me a photo of the real one about 6 or 7 years ago still puttering along. What a surprise!

I’m not sure that the model was based on that particular loco but the resemblance is there (at least for me).

Model

Real

4. My bandsaw (pictured here) zigzags when it hits a knot instead of going straight. Is this normal?

----------
Oh, yeah. Officer forgot to put the date on the ticket. I kinda feel sorry for the officer and how mortified he must have been.

Morning all!

Cloudy and might rain (I emphasize might). High today around 85, so not so bad.

So the Chief headed north and Buckeye headed south? Sounds fishy to me...

Have great day all!

Good morning,

Spent the morning working in the garden/lawn. Boy was it hot. Showered and now hibernating in the coool basement.

Don, Good job. It you want to add a second unit, just connect with a 2 wire tether and connect all four motors together. Jon told me I can do this with a pair of buddies, so it should work with a pair of beeps. I did not do it yet as I just ordered the stuff over the weekend and it shipped on Tuesday. Probably get here Friday. I'll let you know how it works when I get it done.

Chief, What airline are you going to try next time? [;)]

David, That looks like a first class grill. I also noticed that BB stays pretty close at hand when there is food on the grill.

I think RMT and Electric RR should get together and come up with a system to get TMCC beeps on the market. I would think they could do it like Atlas and Weaver do with TAS. Could set it up for preorder so they wouldn't have to gamble on how many would sell. Just a thought.

Laz, Only 5 days left. When should I have the mulch delivered? [:D] [:D] [:D]

Stay cool.

Hitching on to your comment about the 2 wire tether, and given the size of the TMCC upgrade that Electric Railroad has, I wonder if it could be installed in other space restricted units? Probably, should call and ask him......

Hi guys, I talked via e-mail with Jef about a tethered TMCC BeepBeep lashup. While he didn't say it would work he also didn't say it wouldn't. I got one of the originals that they sold with TMCC already installed. [tup]

Hello everyone, I finally made it back home very early this morning. The flight back home was smooth enough except for the fact that we got delayed quite a bit, going in circles for almost 2 hours before we were finally able to land in Chicago for my connecting flight due to the rain and thunderstorms there at O'Hare. Then once we landed had to wait for a gate to open up so that they could park the plane, then had to wait about another hour to fly to Lansing because of alot of other planes that needed to go on their way.

Definitely have to remember not to go through O'Hare next time when the weather gets bad....course that could apply to any airport though just about.

Anyway nice to be back in the cooler temps here, and nice to be back home, though I did admit that I wish I didnt have to leave Houston so soon.....had quite a nice time there this time. Now I plan to chill and just relax the rest of the afternoon.

Hey guys, when doing the wires to tether the BEEPS, or any other engines, don't forget to put a connector on each wire between the engines, so that you can change things around a bit, or work on them separately. I only have one BEEP, but hope to add soon.

Evening everyone,

It's been a busy time at work. I didn't get home till late tonight and tomorrow there is a dinner to attend. I will probably miss the 7th game of the Sabres game. Last night was a great game as the Sabres won in OT. Hopefully they can win again tomorrow night.

David- Maybe he left the date off the ticket on purpose so your daughter could get out of it.

Have a good night all.

Don, Give Jon at ERR a call, heck of a nice guy. I had a problem with an install in an old Lionel Trainmaster, getting the horn to work reliably, and he talked me through it in a cross country phone call after the several emails we sent back and forth got to ponderous.

Doug, The limiting factor is the motor current. I think you would be OK with the buddies as you normally don't hook a train to them. With two beeps, if you connected all the cars they could pull you might run the current over the rating of the board and fry something.

Chris, Welcome home. Your flight problems sound like the Chief booked your flight for you.
[:D] [:D] [:D]

Doug, Is that preorder date cast in stone? Hopefully there will be some ordered for stock. If your dealer hasn't ordered any for stock, why not check with some of the big MTH dealers and see if they are getting any. Maybe you can reserve one of those.

It has cooled off nicely here, hope that means we will be getting some rain.

Good evening from Beckley, WV. Tonight I'm staying over in the Mountain State as I sneak further south which is very difficult with a Buckeye plate on the vehicle. If you recall my last foray into the South was to Nashville, TN. Within 24 hours after I arrived, tornadoes ripped up the countryside. I try to be more careful this time.

Jim, I used that bag of grits to hang wall paper. As to the layout, it is undergoing extensive testing. Needless to say I have had a few surprises especially after the TPC 300 was added and the non-cruise control engines worked much better.

Tomorrow, I will be in the deep south. I wonder if I will understand anything they say. I honed my foreign language skills before I left Buckeyeland, but I am still having trouble with, "Ya all" and "Pertnert".

Hello All! Don- If your Beep can sound like a Roadrunner then it would be neat if you put a Decal of the Roadrunner on the side of your Beep[;)][:)][8D] You would have a crowd pleaser then at the museum layout. Chris -Glad you had fun in Houston. That was a neat layout you put together for your brother. He should put it on a board for a permanent layout sometime in the future. Dave- BB sure knows lots of neat tricks like Cooking on a Grill, Laying Train Track, & posing for your Camera when need be.[;)] She deserves a Silver Fire Hydrant Award for her efforts.[;)][:P][:D][:o)] Have a nice evening all.

Doug - Ouch! That was a good price on that MTH set as a pre-order. Did you try calling them instead of online, maybe they would take pity on you and still give you that price???

David - your bandsaw blade is twisting when it hits a knot in wood, is that right? Do you have it tensioned correctly? Could it be the rate you are feeding the stock?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

LAZ - 5 days, you can do that with your eyes closed[:D]. We have 6 days with kids. Last two are early dismissals. Little darlings have been quiet after memorial day holiday. Don't know why, but I'll take it. Even the teachers have been on a more even keel.

Been too hot to even go in the train room as it is in the garage which is NOT air conditioned. [:(] Hopefully this cool front will cool things off to allow me to run some trains. Thought about a window A/C unit but it might not fit. IF I could pick one up at a yard sale, I might have to try it.

Good morning all,

It is foggy and muggy in SE Indiana with the temps and humidity in the low 80s. I had an interesting game last night as they wanted me to be goalkeeper for a half. I told them anything inside the "18" would probably find the back of the net. The defense did a terrific job, and there was only one time the other team got one past me. We wound up winning 5-1, and the margin easily could have been much higher. I did get some midfield action in the second half. It sure was hot enough last night. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning from sunny central North Carolina. Another warm day ahead.

Had to stop for an eastward bound Amtrak train this morning in downtown Cary, NC. Only a few minutes of wait time as these things are pretty much stop and go! Got a couple of books on layout wiring yesterday. Time to learn me some things! :)

Good Morning All from NE Ohio

where the temp is 62 and going up to 78 with overcast skies. Boy did we have big T-storms last night ! !

Buckeye – best of luck on your trip. Just remember, you can always talk their language, but they can’t talk ours.

Keith – Congs on your 4th start.

Is Chief having more problems flying again, say it isn’t so.

And Chief is coming to Buckeyeland, but not to the heart of OTTS land.

All be safe
