Gil! How you doing? We were just wondering the other day - hadn't seen a post in a while! God bless and I hope you are doing better.

Doug - thanks for the info. I'm not really familiar with RMT - have to look into this! I like steam loco's best, but it does fit my favorite theme (at the moment).

I'm still working and probably at it a good hour more - esp if I keep getting on the fun computer - TTFN

Jim F. - http://readymadetoys.stores.yahoo.net/

Check out their website, they have some really cool stuff and for only $60. They are really cute, and look good on a layout as a yard switcher. And I believe CT magazine did a story on installing TMCC in them if you so desire. I will be install the TMCC upgrade for one this weekend. The upgrade cost more than the BEEP did.

Finished clearing out Room 2, maybe will get it painted this weekend. Actually, I am sure I wouldn't be doing all this if it wasn't for the future train room. Probably get it all redone and decide to move or something.

Have a safe weekend !!!!

Big storm headed our way. Shut down computer. It went jsut south of us [this big tall rock makes them turn]. We DID get a great shower and no lightning and hail [the others got]. In fact, it rained hard with the sun shining. Did not do much today. Everytime I get to doing things, go into coughing spell and can hardly breath. I think I have it [pneumonia]. I've had it so many times. No fever to speak of, just sweets and series of bad coughing spells. Got things to do but wife is saying I need to stay inside and rest, sleep and run trains. HUMMM.

Good evening all,

Chief, I think maybe I have figured out your communications problem. The reservation desk people in India were probably taught Yankee English. They need to teach some of them Rebel Engli***o respond to all the southern area codes.

Marty, When I asked last week why there were no people in your pictures of the steamer, you said you would explain later. If you did I missed it.

Don, After you do the TMCC conversion on the Beep, how about a blow by blow rundown on the operation. I have one I would like to do sometime. By the way I was Army. Looks like we’ve got all the bases covered.

Gil, I have seen some of your posts on the other forum, but haven't noticed you on the coffee pot lately, don't stay away so long.

Roy, You made me tired just thinking of Chaperoning a 6th grade graduation party.

Well as I mentioned in a previous post, our long weekend was wiped out. I will be taking the wife out to dinner on Saturday as it is our 39th Anniversary.

Guess I will check out that sale on Beeps, I really need another loco.[:D] [:D] [:D]

An enjoyable weekend to all and remember the Vets.

Good evening from central North Carolina. Warm, humid day. Chief, we haven't seen any of the storms and I hope they stay away. Speaking of rain during the sunshine, i once saw HUGE snowflakes with the sun shining, from Pembroke, NC. Very strange.

I think I'll drag out the trains and play this weekend. It's been one "heck" of a week at work! I need to play!

John, Thanks I may be contacting you on the Remote. We have the MTH Big Boy, and when Chris and I go the the train club we use the club's unit. However, it isn't very good, rubber bands holding the back on, due to the extra sponge inside holding the battery down. I really didn't need it till this fall, and have a complete DCS on order with our local shop. But we are ultimately going to need two remotes, so I thought I would get one now to use at the club. However, up until yesterday I havn't been able to find one anywhere. Then today I saw a thread on the other forum that the DCS systems are being shipped all over. New container just arrived. Since way out here on the left coast it usually takes an additional week for stuff to arrive. I think I better wait and see if it arrives at Arnies. He has been really good, and I know if I get the one the whole system will arrive at the same time.

If you could send the phone number, I will call him if the system doesn't show.

Since it is Memorial Weekend, Doug's signature always reminds me of the road trip we took to Nashville last summer. We stopped in Branson, and EVERYONE, honored the vets at their shows, gave discounts at the door, it was really neat ! I think it deserves a thread for the week-end.

Hope the Chief gets feeling better soon, lousy way to feel on a holiday.

I will post some pictures of the BEEP, TMC upgrade. Will do a thread on that too.

Just a quick note to everyone: Tomorrow, 5/26th, on History International Channel, they have a program called "Voyages". In this episode, it is about the history of the Steam Engine. Other episodes have been on War Trains and other rail related shows. They do have some on Shipping and others, but quite a few rail related.

Thanks Dennis for the History channel show ! I see it's on at 11PM here ! I first thought I'd miss it cause I plan to surprise Tom, & go to the OTTS meeting tomorrow evening, but I should be home in time !! I saw the one the other night on the 2-2-2s that are at the bottom of the water. That was really a good one, I thought ! The Smitsonion has one in one of their places in Bethlehem Pa. Wonder if any one has seen it in person ?
Well, hope everyone will have a nice weekend !!

Evening guys,

I have to tell you about something really neat that happened today. I stopped at Artcraft Toy Trains in Hamburg, NY to see his new store. He moved into an old train terminal. Behind the store is a shortline RR that belongs to the Buffalo Southern. We heard the train coming and took a walk outside. As the engine was passing slowly he slowed down to say hi and Rick from Artcraft yelled up to the engineer that I wanted a ride. Well, the guy stopped and invited me into the cab for a ride back to the yard about a mile or 2 away. It was an unexpected surprise. i wish I would have had my camera. I will get back there soon to get some photos. There is also an old steamer sitting right behind the store.

Have a good night all.

I'm jealous. What a great thrill that ride must have been. I know you really widh you'd had that camera along. Still, I can't wait to see a few photos.

About 15 years ago I had a parent at a school where I was working who was an engineer for CSX. He once made an off hand remark that he could take me for a ride, but it would have to be on the midnight trick. I never took him up on it for fear he'd get caught and lose his job. Always wondered if he was really serious.

Good morning all,

It is sunny and mild in SE Indiana with temps in the 70s today. It really rained a lot last night, but the weekend should be dry and warm for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing", the Indianapolis 500. My wife, son, sister, and nephew will be going with me on Sunday to see the event. I hope that everyone has a good weekend.

Keep on training,

[code]Good Morning from Blueberryhill [/code] It is a gloomy 63 degrees right now. Raining a
very fine, misty rain. Suppose to go up to 71 today, but continue to rain, on and off..
A good day to stay in and run trains.
I ran my new GG1 yesterday. That is a very heavy engine. Has a lot of power. I like the
Tuscan paint job. It is very classy. Williams makes some nice trains. Right Doug ?????
Today, I have to go get an oil change in the car. It is due. Then, I will run trains for a
few hours.

Ok, I will go for now. Be back later.

Good Morning All from NE Ohio

where the temp is 62 and going up to 75 with overcast skies and light rain showers. Last night we had lots of very big T-Storms.

OTTS Meeting this Friday at The Western Reserve Model Railroad Museum. 7:00pm Anyone wishing to join us can e-mail me for directions or visit www.wrmrrm.shutterfly.com

I just check the web site for the short line train trip that OTTS was planning and they don’t start running until June 17 so we will have to plan this for later in the month.

John – It will be great to see you if you can make it tonight. Don’t forget, June 17 is classic car cruising in Willoughby.

Mike, Keep the Sun out for the big race.

Pick of the Day

All be safe

Good Morning All:

It looks gloomy here in Chicagoland as well. The weather is supposed to clear up later today. I was excited to get the phone call from my local hobby store that the DCS units are now in. I LOVE remote controls. I hope to get to the store today.

On the down side, my wife has caught up with all of my recent (i.e. last six months) train spending and she has imposed a limit of $600.00 between now and the end of the year. After I get the DCS system I will not have much left to start building the layout I recently designed. I guess I will have to lobby for a nice Father's day present and a nice birthday present. [;)]

I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend. One of the nice things about this forum is that the vast majority of the participants still understand the purpose of Memorial Day.

Chuck, that Williams GG-1 is great. Haven't put the pantagraphs on it yet for fear they'll be crushed if one of my more enthusiastic younger drivers derails it on a curve.
Tom, congrats on that cab ride experience! Nice, warm and grey here today in Chicago - a good basement day - too bad I'm one of the few people at work.
I had a good opportunity to work more on the layout last night - put up an oval of 031 I had that I've never used for the 248 - that track dates from the 1920s, and rearranged the yard to fit in the turntable. Then put my own patented track ties (using yarn) on all the corner tracks on the outside oval that will be the domain of the GG-1. Tonight - after the son's Little League game, I hope to get even more time in - to begin work on the wiring as the bride has a 'girls night out' - never had a powered switch before. I'll have to figure out how to attach the controller and power to those three knobs. Have a good day- and weekend. Thanks again to all you veterans. [bow]

Good Morning all,

Rather dreary day. Haven't seen the sun yet. We could use a little rain, but forecast is for only a chance of thundershowers.

Dennis, I saw part of that show. Somethng interupted me, think it was a long phone call and I missed the end ot it.

Tom S, I guess we are all jealous. What a treat! [:)]

Laz, You will have to stop spreading your talents so thin and concentrate on either golf or fishing. [:D]

Those Williams GG1's are nice. I have the classic one (shorty) don't run it much anymore as I run mostly TMCC or DCS. Been debating trying to convert it or sell and buy one already equipped. Not much room in the one I have for TMCC.

Heading to the office for a few hours to complete a small project that I have been putting off. First time there for about 2 weeks.

Have a good day & weekend.

Morning. Feel better. Plenty of sleep. Now not to do too much today and rest up. Think that will be the case for the holidays. Fly to NH Tuesday and come back Thursday. Plan on resting on that trip too. Jim A. took long extended holiday. Won't see him here until Tuesday. Hope to get to see him while up his way. May not work out. Well, go eat another muffin my wife cooked before going to work. She's off this afternoon to Youngest's for weekend. Guess what she will be hauling? Big black bags of Barbee and Cabbage Patch Kids and etc. [:D] Hope we get more rain this PM. Later

Jefelectric...

Here's the poop. When we showed up for what we thought was a public day, as there was nothing on the website indicating otherwise, we were told the train was not opened to the public today. It was UP employee day. Come back Thursday or Friday we were told. We accepted that but told them we were leaving town and would have to pass.

A very nice UP police Lt. personally escorted us to the 844 to let us take pictures and look around. We had it all to ourselves. He stayed with us the whole time. He was a very nice gentlemean who made my stay in San Antonio a bit better.

I didn't want to post it too soon in case he would get in trouble for it.

Warning From Pakistan

This morning, from a cave somewhere in Pakistan, Taliban Minister of Migration, Mohammed Omar, warned the United States that if military action against Iraq continues, Taliban authorities will cut off America's supply of convenience store managers. And if this action does not yield sufficient results, cab drivers will be next, followed by Dell customer service reps.

It's getting ugly.

Wow, cool, Marty. My connection to your world dates back to me working for the CBS affiliate in South Bend, IN in the mid-80s and before that, for an early competitor to CNN called Satellite News Channels. I only volunteer for the video minstry at church now - lots and lots has changed.

Marty - almost as complicated as the underside of my layout! [:D] Let me know if you are back down here. The club layout is not far from the AAC if you have any time next week (as a Maverick fan there WILL be a next week!).

Another warm one here today. 95 ain't bad as long as there is a breeze!

Gearing up for the holiday weekend. Got some video of my NYC Niagra pulling an 11 car milk train to post for Sunday Photo fun.

Have a great one all!
