Happy Birthday Doug! Thanks for the prayers man!

Have a B-day party to attend for our friends' daughter at a skating rink - I'll be sitting on the side and watching. Haven't skated in 30 years at least and also don't want to tear anything open.

Need to get back on the weightwatchers regimen - really can tell I've put on a few pounds. Char had girlscouts last night, so my son and I ran up to Hallmark and got a card from the kids and one from me. She wanted some dvds, so I ordered them the other day, but they won't be here in time so I already showed her what she's getting.

Glad to hear you did well last night, Chuck - hang in there and keep healing up. That locomotive sounds sweet!

Chief - sounds like a busy day full of good food, be sure to drink plenty of sweet tea to ease the digestion and enjoy!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Keith Just as you suggested. This is the oldest piece I have. It runs pretty well, smokes, lights, and makes a good deal of noise, due to the extended flanges I guess. As you can see it is in pretty rough condition. I would like to restore and paint it but want to do a lot of practicing first. Also, not sure it would be a good idea or not. By the way is the screw just above the lead wheels typical, or was that a impromtu fix someone did?

Am I correct these are from the 20's ?

Good afternoon,

Pretty nice day here today, mix of sun and clouds wtih an occasional sprinkle. Jean and I spent most of the day doing yard work and planting annual flowers. Need to get the greenhouse emptied out before it gets to hot.

Doug, Happy birthday [bday]

I bought my wife an Elvis box car on ebay some time ago. Guess I should have kept it for MD.

Hope to post a few photos tomorrow.

All have a good evening.

Don,

I am no expert, but I believe the screw above the lead wheels holds the motor in place. I believe the 1688's are from the 30's and early 40's.

Keith/1688 Torpedo = How'd I do?

Evening all,

We got home a little while ago from my son's college graduation. It was a really nice day and we had a nice dinner in Akron afterwards. I am tired from the driving. I will probably watch the Sabres game and hope they can close out the Senators. There is also a Nascar race on so I guess I have a few things to choose from.

Happy Birthday Doug! [bday][bday][bday]

Have a good night all.

Hello All! [bday][bday] To Doug M. You're the only one I know of who buys Christmas & Birthday presents for himself[;)][:P][:)][:o)] C'mon, You know you want a 1688 Torpedo for your layout. So, Just go ahead & find one for yourself like Don & Bob have & discover for yourself how nice they run & the OTTS will be closer to one world domination as their goal with one 1688 at a time![;)][:P][:P]( SHH! it's our secret though[;)]) Don- Your 1688 looks like a late 1936- early 37 version as it has a thin casting,No screws for the siderods & 8-spoke drivewheels on the Motor. One thing though. 1688s do not smoke. You must have been thinking of another engine or possibly a Corvair![;)][:P][:)] Anyway, I've never seen a 1688 walk ( or run) a mile for a Camel[:o)][;)] If you want it restored contact me at my e-mail & I'll help you out for sure or if you're a do-it-your selfer. You can use either Charlie Woods # 385 Gunmetal Grey Paint or Automotive Charcoal Grey Paint. One or the other will make a excellent choice for your restoration. The gent who restores my 1688s strips off the old paint to the bare metal & Glass Beads the castings to get off any remaining paint & it really cleans up the castings very well. The Screw you were asking about holds in the front truck assembly which also does double duty as a front motor mount for the 1688. The 1688 in your photo looks like two I've got & if you remember the photo that Tom(Spanky) took of my Train at the museum it is headed by a 1688 from 1937 & the second one I've got is going to get restored as soon as possible( this is a orphan 1688 as it has no freight cars yet to pull around a track). Bob(Mitch) you did well answering Don's question about the screw above the lead truck. Jim F. Hope you continue to get better also & get more rest as well. Have a nice evening all. OOOPS ! Almost forgot. Don- if your 1688 has extended flanges on the drivewheels. Then, it means they have ruts from some kid literally Hot Rodding it sometime in it's life & that means the Wheels should be replaced. Trust me. I've had to do the same thing also with some of my 1688s as the wheels are no good anymore. Take Care.

TomS - Congrats on the son's graduation!

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Keith.

I think I ripped a stitch. I had 3 incisions - 2 are healed, including the bigger one at the bellybutton. On the left side, the small incision just isn't healing. I think I keep rubbing it open on clothes, but I also noticed that when I have to move boxes for work, it seems to be tearing open again and bleeding a little. Anyway, I took a shower prior to going to the birthday party and when I got out, there was a tiny thread on the wound. I though it was from the towel, so I picked it off - no resistance, but it is clearly a piece of stitching that should still be inside me somewhere! I guess that this stitch popped loose a while ago and is just now getting pushed out. My wife inspected the wound and we put a bandaid (flexible cloth type) over the wound. I'm going to watch it tomorrow and Monday and if it's not healing, I'm going to the doctor. The surgery was on 4/19 and we are nearly at 1 month later, so something is going wrong. ANyway, I had to leave the party because there was no place I could sit comfortably. Took some meds and a short nap, then we went out to dinner at Steak and Shake. Ended up at Target shopping for clothes for the kids and some odds and ends. NOw I'm exhausted and I think I really overdid it.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Up late watching westerns. Tom S, congrats on son's graduation. Jim F, something is not right. Neck surgery was healed within a week. Chest was sawed open and the incision was healed within a week or so [brestbone wasn't]. Even the holes left from the tubes in my chest were healed by then. Go to the Dr. Goood night. Rain tomorrow and maybe Monday AM.

Good morning from Gettysburg. It is cool and damp. Showers expected with highs in 60's.

Happy Mother's Day to all. We are off to my sister's house after church for Mother's day dinner with Mom and rest of family. Hace to stop and pick up a healight for my car before we go. We noticed it was burned out last night. Will be a nice day but the 1.5 hours on the road each way gets a bit old especially driving home in the rain.

Doug - How was the GG1?

Have a great day.

Morning folks

Got to Texas last evening to do the Mavs game Monday and then on to San Antonio hopefully to see the Challenger...and oh yeah do another BB game.

Hope everyone is having a great mothers day. While I was home I created a reverse loop on my layout out of a couple of sidings. A poster on MTJ was kind enough to offer me a Ross switch to replace the O72 that is currently there. Looks like there will be some hig balling through the city now. This will also give me the chance to rework the scenery at that end of the layout. I'll post some pics when I get home.

Good afternoon all,

Just got home a little while ago. After church another couple and us went to a brunch for Mother's day. All of our kids and their kids either live out of state or were busy with the other side of the family so we celebrated together.

JIM, I agree with the Chief. You need to get yourself to the doctor without delay, that is way to long to wait for it to heal. Like him my bypass surgery incisions healed much faster than that.

All have a nice Mother's Day.

Well, this morning it's itching like crazy but the inflammation is gone and it's scabbed over -- I kinda wonder if that piece of string/suture or whatever was hanging through there was keeping it from closing? There was a little clear/white stuff with it, and then some blood, but there was no real blood on the bandaid when I took it off last night before bed. If it's not still doing good tomorrow morning, I'll call the doctor and see what's up. I won't take a shower today, to see if that helps maintain the scab/healing. Maybe they'll put me on antibiotics and/or restitch this one.

Sorry - no train stuff today. We let my wife sleep really late and she loved the cards and stuff. Now she's watching a day of chick flix and apparently updating all her girlscout files. I used to be a cub scout Den Leader, so I know that pain. I've been playing with the kids all day, but just really taking it easy with no lifting at all.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Chuck, that is wonderful news. I love it when a doctors says, "See ya in six months." [:D][:D][:D][:D] Unfortunately I have a buddy who just had colon cancer surgery. On his return to the doctor the doc said, "Hmm....something isn't just right." He now carries around some type of suction device to help drain.

Hopefully, my wife will be back to 100% this week. Since her surgery, she has not been able to lift anything heavier than ten pounds or pick up anything on the floor. I didn't know the washer and dryer could hold more than ten pounds. [%-)][%-)]

Well everyone have a great week and Happy Birthday Doug.

Good evening everyone. Doug, happy birthday, sorry it's late, but we just returned from Florida-took sister in law and her family, mother in law and her husband and our gang to the beach for mother's day.

I am not sure if this movie was on the list of great train movies, but this weekend, we saw "Journey of Nattie Ghan" or something like that. Had lots of old steam action.

Well, off to check out the rest of the forum. Look forward to some Sunday Photo Fun.

Howdie All !!
I came across a recipe that anybody who has a little boy or two might like.
It really sounds gross, which means of course little boys should love it.
Hopefully the cut & paste works.

Tony's Kitty Litter Cake Recipe

Ingredients:
1 (18 oz.) box spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 (18 oz.) box white cake mix
1 pkg. white sandwich cookies
1 large box vanilla instant pudding mix
12 small tootsie rolls
1 litter box (preferably a NEW one!)
1 plastic scoop
green food coloring

Preparation:
Prepare cake mixes and bake according to directions (any size pans).
Prepare pudding mix and chill until ready to assemble. Crumble white
sandwich cookies in small batches in blender, they tend to stick, so
scrape often. Set aside all but about 1/4 cup. To the 1/4 cup cookie crumbs,
add a few drops green food coloring and mix using a fork or shake in a jar.
When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble into a large bowl.
Toss with half the remaining white cookie crumbs and the chilled pudding.
You probably won't need all of the pudding, mix with the cake and "feel" it, you
don't want it soggy, just moist; gently combine.
Put mixture into clean litter box.
Put three unwrapped Tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat
until soft and pliable. Shape ends so they are no longer blunt, curving
slightly. Repeat with 3 more Tootsie rolls and bury in mixture. Sprinkle
the other half of cookie crumbs over top. Scatter the green cookie
crumbs lightly over the top, this is supposed to look like the chlorophyll
in kitty litter. Heat remaining Tootsie Rolls, three at a time in the
microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and
sprinkle with cookie crumbs. Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle
a few of the cookie crumbs around. Serve with a new pooper scooper.

Hello All! Jim F- Sounds like you need to see a Doctor right away. Your situation does not sound good at all. I had surgery myself about Six Years ago & my incision healed up after six weeks with no problems & after nine months passed it was completely healed with no problems at all. Keep getting more rest & do not lift anything heavy or else It'll just get worse. Doug- You'll be happy with a 1688. Just ask Don or Bob.[8D][:)][;)] I'm guessing that CSXJohn is probably getting some yardwork done or maybe getting overtime at work? There sure is a lot of Train Traffic on the local rails lately & that might be keeping John busy also. Well have a nice evening all. Take Care.

Chief, not only did we get rain, but we got one hell of a hail storm out in Fuquay this afternoon. Did you get anything your way? The hailstones I measured ranged from 1.5 to 1.75 inches. Lots of holes in my house screens. I'm to too scared to look at my cars. Actually sat the first storm in the car. Just pulled up in the drive...too one step out and heard something hit the pavement. Then another. Yelled for everyone back in the car! The whole sky opened up. Had about 5 inches of hailstones on the back deck. Still got some lightning out there, but I think it's calming down for the night.

Got a new train. Managed to sneak it in without the wife noticing it was new! :)
I'll post pictures later.

Good night all....

Hi Everyone !! [/blue Here I am ! Just been a bit overwhelmed lately with keeping the car & truck going ! Got the truck working, but waiting to get a computer for the car now. Hope that's what it is, as I'd hate to get one & it be something else. Was planning on getting to the museum yesterday, when stuff started breaking. Haven't been doing much on the layout lately & the kids are making all these plans for get togethers this summer.
Glad Chuck is much better & Mrs. Buckeye is near 100% !!
Hope all the Moms had a nice Mothers Day today !!

Hi guys,

It was a nice Mothers' day here. We took my mom to a community theater and then out to dinner. It's going to be a busy week at work. The good news is that i have Friday off because we are heading to DC for another graduation.

It looks like the Sabres will be playing the Carolina Hurricanes in the next round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. It looks like it will be an exciting series.

Have a nice start to your week everyone.
