There is frost on the grass in Central Ohio this morning.

John, good photo. One of the things I have found by having a distinctive photo is that it bookmarks my place on a topic. I can remember my place in line.

Cleaned the garden railroad track. Ran the trolley and the handcar and everything worked great.

Sask, Congratulations on fininshing that first year.

Chief, we got some of that storm system last night in Fuquay, NC. Lot of lightning and rain, some winds, but not too bad. Power didn't even flicker. Had a great meal of grilled salmon. The table was lit by two railroad lanterns, one of which is from the New Haven. And I just updated my website with a new one:
http://www.mindspring.com/~jeffpo/BostonAlbany.htm

Concerning pinestraw, my wife sent me to the store a few years back to buy some pinestraw to put around the bushes and stuff in the yard. I came back empty handed. I told her after all the pinestraw I had to rake and burn while growing up (in the sandhills area of N.C.), I just couldn't bring myself to actually pay money for the stuff ! :)

Jim F., I LOVE watching South Park. It's definitely not for the timid, or the easily offended.

Morning, all!

None of the predicted rain has arrived yet. We were supposed to get rain last night but not a drop. Overcast and muggy this AM. Doesn't really look like rain, though.

Jeff, I agree with you about pine straw. It just doesn't feel right to pay for it.

Have a good day, everyone!

Cold and sunny in Chicago. Needed a coat today - brrrr. Saw the weirdest 'fake-trolley-bus' on my walk over - a full scale city busy tricked out like a trolley. Looked a tad out of scale.
Wow, look at that Alleghany - great shot, Tom.
I really appreciate our continuing tour of the Holy Land, David.
Congrats on a successful first year, Sask (Mitchell). I work with adults who wi***hey perservered in college or university as you probably call it. Hang in there.
jefelectric (John), that's a good shot! My wife talked me into retesting for radon in our basement. Came out surprisingly high, so after retesting again, I'm having a contractor come in Fri to vent the crawl, basement and garage slab (or rather the ground around those areas). That's what Illinois wants us to do. Gotta take down the layout though. Hope it works.

Good Morning All:

Should be nice here in Chicagoland today. I hope to put my newfound electronics knowledge to work. I need to put an outlet in our attic in preparation for the installation of a whole house fan. Don't worry, I will remember to turn the breaker off while I am working. Otherwise... [:0]

Doug:

Good luck with the venting. I hope your layout will not be permanently damaged. You got me considering doing a radon test. We built our house a couple of years ago and there is a crack in the basement foundation floor. Now I am wondering if Radon is seeping out while I am innocently running my trains.

David:

When did you take this trip to the Middle East? How long were you away? What prompted the journey?

Morning all. Slept till 9:30. [:D] Fixing lunch and then going to Miss Edna's. Packing for Houston BPS as fly out tomorrrow AM.

Jeff, we got very little lightning. Rained for hours and got 1/2 inch. That is better than an inch all at one time. Tomato plants have blooms and squash and zucs have blooms. Corn is coming up. Got more seeds coming up in greenhouse. Temps sure did fall. Turned heat back on in greenhouse. Been getting fan running for days and now chilly.

Well, I see the Yanks are chilling too. Glad we are all getting rain. Time for sweet ice tea.

Later.

I never got a chance to call Chuck while he was in the hospital. I kept leaving his phone number at work. Then I'd remember it only after I was at home. Dohhh!!! Maybe I'll go kick a NS caboose across the basement.

Scratchbuilt a couple of benches for my passenger station during lunch today. Now all those sitting figures will have a place to park it. The benches were the last unfinished business regarding that station overhaul. Last night I placed everything where it should go and landscaped. Got to start making more trees for the upcoming forest project. I'm eager to get that project started. It's going to be elevated so that the layout loses some of the tabletop prairie look. And Wilkie Coal is taking shape too.

I guess I'll take apart my Williams dummy Alco tonight and try to figure out why one of the wheels sits elevated above the track.

Afternoon all,
Sorry I have been away for a bit. Went to Vegas for a meeting and caught the flu....no grits out there to help the immune system. Anyway, was coughing up blood last night and still have trouble talking. I am on call and having to pull extra work as one of our team is on vacation. No train time as when I get home, its off to bed. Take care, Dennis.

Jeff,

Welcome to forum!

John,

Trip to Israel and Switzerland was Dec05 thru Jan06.

Several reasons. Honeymoon. Also, daughter's college winter vacation so she tagged along.

My mom's side of family are Swiss and Dad's side ancestry Israeli, so thought I'd see my roots. 2 lovely countries.

Here's Part I of Ein Gedi, btw:

Right near the Dead Sea is the beautiful oasis of Ein Gedi, where desert plants and animals native to Africa and this area thrive (I’ll do a follow-up Ein Gedi post with photos of some wild animals such as antelope and rock rabbits that BB the beagle would love to become acquainted with.

Ein Gedi is where Dovid hid from King Saul, in the Old Testament times. Saul with his army of 3,000 chased David, who was hiding here in a cave. There are quite a few caves and in the last photo, you can see one of them in the upper right portion of the photo (tiny black speck).

A spring feeds a small stream, that waters this tropical location, where just a few feet from the Oasis, nothing grows, since the climate is so dry.

There are dozens of more stops will be making. If you’ve not been following this series, here are the Coffee Post pages to find the previous ones:

Cool pics as usual David - very cool to see these sites.

I'm worn out again. Started playing with the legoes today - I guess I'm really bored. I'm on a 5 pound lifting restriction, but I figured a bucket of legoes is probably only a little more than 5 pounds anyway. Was sitting up all day and now I'm worn out. Completely redid my water tower and started a sanding tower, but need some more special bricks. Off to bricklink (online) then dinner and television. I might take a nap, though I was trying not to do so.

I need to have Charlene pick up some life-giving grits to get me over this rough spell.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Welcome HOME Chuck - take it easy and heal up man!

Just got done watching Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine with the kids - imparting a little Jimbo culture on their impressionables. Anyhoo - just got off bricklink. I bought tan bricks to make a pile of sand, as well as a cone for a sand bucket, parts from an old freight ship set to make a crane for the bucket, with a working string winch, as well as replacement chains, dark gray 2 x 2 45 degree double convex pieces for the footings, and some other odds and ends. I really wanted to get another black ladder like 3 I got from my nephew - guess what, they are not LEGO! Apparently they are from a competitor. I found some on ebay in a lot of "lego ladders and fences" and bid on them. Hope to get 1 more black one to complete my water tower and sanding tower diorama. Once it's done, I'll post pics. My wife added a guy swimming in the water tower! LOL

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
" Hi" from Blueberryhill
I'm home and all went well.
They had to remove the lower one - third of my right lung. That's what pneumonia
can cause. But, all is good and healing. I have to do a lot of therapy.
The best medicine, that I have gotten, was you guys. The phone calls and prayers.
You are the best friends that I ever have had. Thank you.

Laz, Only two posts to go! Yes that picture is cropped from the group picture. I think Mitch should use his from the first York picture, what do you say?

SASK, Congratulations of completion of your first year.

Tom, I know Colin is a diesel expert, didn't realize he also knew his steamers.

Did you guys see the pictures posted of the BEEFs, cute little rascals. Local shop owner told me he already ordered 18 of them.

Chuck, Glad you are home. Had your phone number here on the desk, but thought I would wait a little to call. Guess I waited to long.

Good evening, everyone!

Welcome home, Chuck! Good to hear your back!

I arrived home safe and sound. Unfortunately, I was unable to go on my Union Station tour because the tour guide was unavailable due to a family emergency. What are the odds? Oh, well, there's always next time. Anyway, it feels really good to be back and also to have the time now to do things I didn't before.

Good morning from Gettysburg. Another late night last night and tonight. Not much time to run trains or work on the layout etc when you get in the door after 9:00 PM. Too tired.[xx(]

Hope to get to the repair shop this weekend to drop off the 1688 to have the wheels replaced. The metal disease in the old pre-war wheels got the best of her. I guess I ran her too hard because the side rod fell off[swg]. I was going to try to do it myself but Keith/1688torpedo and another buddy sort of talked me out of it. I didn't have the right tools and I will probably not be restoring enough old prewar to justify the expense of buying the wheel puller and cups, plus I was afraid I'd get the wheels out of quarter. My local repair guy is usually pretty reasonable and pretty fast.

Welcome home Chuck. Hope you are feeling better and back on line soon.

Have a great day.
