We have a cruise nite every fri april thru sept. Just love to go and look at all the expensive iron on display. The other week there was almost two dozen Cobras here maybe a third of which were original. I would be PARANOID as hell driving a car worth in excess of a half mil.[8D]

Well it's Saturday morning. Its not raining, but it did overnight.. Gotta wa***he Jeep today and get all the Cicada juice off. Planting flowers with Mrs. Buckeye today in the Garden Railroad area. I must say an outdoor railroad is fairly simple to build and it is facinating to watch the big trains.

Speaking of trains, the hobby shops in the area are starting to advertise the steam festival scheduled for the end of August in Ohio. The Ohio Central is one of the sponsors for the event.

Spanky, I'll be in Cleveland on Wednesday night. Do you want to get together for supper at the Station?

Spanky, take some pictures of the cars. Hot and humid here. Yesterday's heat index was over 100. I knew it when I finished weedeating. Mowing was not bad with the JD. Now to find time to play with my lashup on the layout. Got to go to MIL's again this afternoon for Pam's Dad's thing. Yesterday afternoon it was a cookout for her Dad's brother that was here from Indiana. Poor guy has spent most of his life in YANKEE land. [:D] Time to spray the fruit trees, roses, grapes and garden. Have a good one and God bless.

Another June gloom morning here in southern California. Overcast should burn off by noon and temp should reach the high 70's. Need to give the dog a bath and then head out to gymnastics for the kids. Should be able to spend a few hours working on the layout later this afternoon.

Hello! It's pretty cool and absolutely beautiful outside today in northwestern Illinois - blue sky, puffy clouds. More like spring or fall than mid-summer. I was out at 6 am to drive to my first class today in toward Chicago - and it sure was nice to see the sun come up. I'm posting this during lunch break. Whew! Survived the grass cutting, edging, etc. Thank the Lord for the clouds rolling in. Looks like we'll have thunderstorms this afternoon.

Let me also wish all of you dads a "Happy Father's Day!" tomorrow. I probably won't be posting anything tomorrow through Tuesday since I'll be out of town.

I noticed yesterday the local Barnes & Noble book store they had a little Father's Day display. The sign read, "Is Dad into collecting?" Displayed were several books ranging from coin collecting to vintage cars. Right in the middle was a copy of Model Railroader! It's nice they remember the train guys!

I guess I can jump in here, it was mid 90's and humid in Athens, GA today. Heat index 100 +/-. I was going to cut grass when I got home this afternoon, instead jumped into the grandaughters' small pool with them, it was like a bath.

Finally finished the small church for the layout, I probably set it onto the layout tomorrow after I take a couple of photos. I'll see if I can get this roll of 35mm developed onto a disc and join the frustrated group that attempts to post photos.

Hello gentlemen and happy father's Day!

Just thought I'd drop by to Introduce myself to the group. While my O gauge trains are my hobby, my time is mostly spent running standard gauge - 4ft 8 1/2 in, 1:1 raito passenger trains. I was given my granfather's 671 turbine at a very young age, and have never looked back. My first real job was as a the local hobby shop, as a repain man (at 14 yrs old). After finishing school, I hired on with the railroad and was a promoted Locomotive Engineer by the time I was 22. Allthough I have been involved with the models for 20 years, I am sill not yet 30 yrs. old and consider myself part of the "next generation" of model railroaders. I have definite opinions on the current state of the hobby, some postive, some negative. While I like TMCC, I could live without it, a whole fleet of Williams type of locomotives (and rolling stock) would be fine by me. I do not like the seemingly unending price increases on "premium" line models. I am and will be encouraging everyone I know to encourage someone outside of the hobby to buy a Polar Express set for their children around the holidays. The marketing from the movie this fall and the popularity of the book gives this set the possibility to becobe THE turning point for an increase in intrest in three rail trains. Scale 1:48 models are OK but that's it. I tend to laugh at rivet counters who pay well over $1000 to have a "scale" steam locomotive only to place on three rail tubular track and show me how they can remotely activate their oversize coupler and listen to the canned "radio chatter" (steam loco's did not have radios). Don't get me wrong, I do not look to operate my hobby on a shoe string, I would just rather walk away from a show with a backseat full of boxes rather that one box in the front seat. I do hope to contribute qute a bit to this forum and possibly help improve the our hobby- even if it's just a little bit.

BWT I also have a 671 from when I was a baby, and it still runs.

Well, we had a very cool night for the first day of summer, low of 46 deg, but it is recovering fine, at 10:30am the temp is 65 going up to 75 with Blue Clear Skys.

The car cruse was great with tons of great cars, two live bands playing 50 and 60 music, dancing in the streets. Boy did it bring back great memories.

Check out this 57 Chevy. I hope you can see the metal flack paint job. It was outstanding.

It’s a cool morning again in NE Ohio, temp 61 and going up to 85 and NO rain. Three days in a row without rain. As Chief can’t say that four letter word, next week we start our holiday, so we can make it thru this week.

Good Morning--

Great weekend get away for us. We probably just had the best weather of the year, temps in the 70's, low humidity, bright sun and hardly any wind. It made for great bike riding on the banks of the flooded Mississippi and watching trains. We rarely see trains anymore so it was a treat for us to see so much activity on the rails, hard to stay focussed on driving when there's so much to see.

If any of you in the midwest ever want to take a 3-4 night trip to the Dubuque,IA/Galena, IL area it would be well worth your time--lots of histroy and unique shopping.

Boy, just got into the office after meeting my daughter (and mother in law) coming into Chicago Union Station from NY on Amtrak #41 (The Three Rivers) . They were actually early. Twenty years in Chicago and I'd never wandered the maze of Union Station. It's impressive at rush hour. Nothing gets the blood moving more than humping a teenager's baggage four blocks to the Northwestern station for their train home...I was fortunate to be able to race over to the Illinois Railway Museum yesterday after church with my 10 year old son. We rode a PCC car that had run on the last day of streetcars in Chicago - 46 years ago to the day! We rode another older trolley and in a Lackawanna passenger car with rattan seats behind an E9 from the Burlington Northern SF executive train. After the ride, we got to visit the cab with the two V12s roaring away behind us. You can see a long way off from that high up but it was impressive how limited the view in front of the engine was. The highlight of my day!! Boy, it's great to be a dad. Even had a chance after everyone was in bed to putter around the layout a bit - I set up a Rube Goldberg-esque steam and diesel sound machine next to my R transformer. It's a bit weird because it has to link to its power supply - and also to a stray piece of HO track to work. Since it works on DC, I couldn't figure a way to link it to the layout. Anyway, it was fun trying to coordinate the chuff rate to a train moving around the layout. Cool again here in Chicago - Saturday was the coldest June 19 in 56 years.

Good afternoon everyone!

Well, today was great day for me. It is the last day of regular classes for school before summer holidays (there's still final exams later, though), but that isn't the main reason why today was a great day. I did get three trains I won on ebay, one of which was a very rare tinplate set made by the Brazilian company Metalma (what, you never knew Brazil had toy train manufacturers of their own?).

Today was also a day I had been anticipating for some time. The senior French class from school came over to see my trains. This was the teacher's idea. It's a very small class with there being only 7 other students beides myself (6 girls, one guy). The others were not told that we were going to my place until this morning-all they knew before was that we were going on a trip. Everyone really enjoyed the trains and was genuinely interested inthem. Other than some derailments on the HO layout, everything worked fine. My gang car did die on me after a while, but with 9 other trains all running on the layout, no one seemed to notice. My Lionel military set with missile launchers and exploding boxcars was real crowd pleaser. I did also discover what can happen when you wind up a Lionel satellite launching flatcar too much. The satellite somehow ended up shooting sideways across the layout at warp speed and took out a few farm animals. No damage to anything, so it actually was quite fun! I show lots of people my trains, but this particular tour was especially rewarding to me seeing as how I finally got the oportunity to show my classmates just how great toy trains really are.
