Dave, your Sunday idea is a very good one. A buudy of mine, Dwight, that is a mechanic worked in a bay next to this young guy. The young guy came in all hung over and yet smiling. Told Dwight he had found this "doll" while out surfing the bars. One thing led to another. The young guy married the girl. Everything was great for a while. Then the young guy came in and was real sad. Stayed that way for weeks. Dwight asked what was wrong. The young guy replied, "All she wants to do is hang out at the bars every night." Dwight's cold reply was, "Well, that is where you found her." Shortly they divorced.

Not always that way but a lot of truth.

Hey Jim, you found your keyboard. Great to hear from you. We started to think that your wife lock you up so you couldn't look at your neighbor.

Hey Jim.
Did you see the pics I post the other day (page 27) from last years tomato crop. Do you grow them that big in Texas?

Well old man, is that tomato juice I see around your mouth. [;)] Tom had mentioned you had not been around much and I had made up my mind to call you tonight. You nee to touch base as some of us get concerned if you don't "show up". Kind of like Buckeye. He has been trying to PEE out a rock. Hard way to get ballast for your railroad. [:D]

Good morning all!
Well, as good as it gets for a 40 yr old! I mean, these are still the drag your butt out of bed years! I almost can't wait to be like my dad, and fly out of bed at 4:30AM!

I'm one of the "newbies" here. My news for the day is, since I finally traded my CW-80 for a BW-80, and now ALL my trains run, I'll be workin on the railroad a little happier.

In other news, I'm canvassing the hobby shops in the greater Chicagoland area for a different reason - to find a job! I should start doing what I love for a living too!!!

Have a good day everyone!

Good Morning All,

It been an all night rain and should be for the better part of the day. Temp in NE Ohio is 60 deg with a high of 64 today. They say sunny and 80’s for Saturday and that’s great.

Well the new printer and I had it out last night. I am still here and the printer isn’t. Not sure who won, but it’s going back.

Good to have you join us Carmine. Join in anytime and good luck on the job hunt.

Good Morning!

It's going to be a great weekend here in the tropic's of central Iowa. It's just 7:30 a.m. and the temp is 73 with 96% humidity, thank you God for air conditioning. We have the World Pork Expo at the State Fairgrounds this weekend and tomorrow is the barbeque colossal, BBQ teams from all over the USA are here in competition and if you time it just right you can sample their entries after they send their best to the judges.

We plan on doing major scenic work in the east room with the emphasis of building a retaining wall against the panneling and that will lead to building fronts on top of the wall. I think the idea of a December open house is really pushing us to keep working this summer plus it's good for us to work together.

Have a good weekend.

Jon

PS
Chief--are you hooked on DCS? I sure enjoy the ability to walk all around the two rooms and have complete control.

Morning gang. Slept late [well did get up and let the boys out and feed them their breakfast but right back in bed]. Carmine, welcome. Glad to have you. Pull up a chair and stay a while. Jon, for me it is more like running trains while jumping over wedding presents. Maybe next weekend as they ahve to move out of the house they are renting and into new one. Got County Environmetal Commission meeting today at noon so not trains today [until tonight]. Tom, think I pint something on the computer. [xx(] Buckeye, you still peeing ballast? Jim, that red looks more like lipstick than tomato juice. [;)] Dr. John must be really having a big Bible School and then a wedding. David, you need to leave the Washington area [take your hot air with you]. They need some cooling. [:p] Done enough damage for now. God bless all.

Finally, some non-political news on front page of Washington Post today.

Scientists are Stunned, reads the headline.

A Border Collie in Germany not only has an understanding of several hundred words, the pooch aslo "can even do something scientists thought only humans could do: figure out by the process of elimination that a sound he has never heard before must be the name of a toy he has never seen before."

The article is also in the journal "Science."

They are calling the dog Albert Einstein, and has been determined to have human intelligence. Researchers are busy testing other dogs.

Our coffee thread is in danger of slipping to page 2 so I'm bringing it back up and getting a fresh cup.

According to the front page of the business section of the Washington Post (today or yesterday), work has just started on the new metro rail extention to Dulles Airport and Reston in Virginia with preliminary engineering plans underway for the first part of the route.

Of course it will take years for this to actually be completed and it's only about 30 miles or so.

Ironically, in one day in 1869, workers laid 10 miles of track by hand. Why it takes 30 years to lay 10 miles of track today is assinine.

AND, the Old Dominion RR took almost the same route. It was abandoned about 1970 and now billions will be spent to rebuild it.

And, to top it all off, a group of agitators are agitating for a dedicated busway instead of metro rail. "Busways" are the new "in thing" among some transportation planners. Tell me, I ask, how a busway will cut pollution, carry more riders and take up less space than a pair of tracks.

Duh!!!!!!

Howdy, everyone!

Well, we survived another Vacation Bible School at our church - nearly 400 K-4 through 5th grade kids had a great time this week. Yours truly received a pie in the face as the boys lost to the girls in our annual "Penney drop" competition. They bring in pennies each day that are weighed on a scale (boys v. girls). The winning team chooses who gets the pie! We then give the money to the Baptist Children's Home.

I'll be conducting an outdoor wedding overlooking Mobile Bay tomorrow afternoon. Those of you who are praying for rain, can you give it a rest for one day? Please!

Oh Dave, I showed that article about dogs understanding human vocabulary to my two dachshunds. They said they thought the idea was silly!

Have a good day!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I'm glad to be here!

it's raining buckets here in Chi-Town, I've about forgotten what sunlight looks like. For a change, that doesn't mean that I spend too much time in the basement!

This thread is a great idea, some moderator should sticky it![;)]

Howdy!

Outdoor weddings are an adventure! I arrived this afternoon at a house overlooking Mobile Bay where the wedding was to take place. It was a beautiful setting, the chairs were set up on the lawn under huge Oak trees. There was a light breeze off the bay that cut down on the 90 degree heat. Sailboats drifted by and seagulls and pelicans dove for fish. The day was clear enough to see the rolling hills of the eastern shore near Fairhope, Alabama.
About ten minutes before 3 pm, we started to hear thunder and the wind picked up. I asked the groom if we could proceed so we could beat the rain and he agreed. As the bride walked toward us, the first drops began to fall. I edited the ceremony somewhat as the rain picked up. Thankfully, we made it through the vows and even had time for some pictures before the sky opened and the rain came down in sheets.
We gathered under tents, eating cake and other wedding food and watched the rain fall. The wind was whipping up white caps on the bay but the small fleet of sailboats continued on. All in all, an interesting afternoon! Now I just have to remember to sign their license and mail it in to the courthouse on Monday.
I'm going to kick back in my favorite chair and go over my sermon notes for tomorrow.

Y'all have a good evening!

Go Dr. John. Thought I'd be off the air for a few as Road Runner went down. They tried to tell me my modem was bad and I tried to tell them it was cable in Rolesville. No your cable TV is working. Does not matter. Had this problem in February. They would not listen and when they came by, "Its working now." Well one of my former Town Board members uses RR for her work. Her's was down and back up like mine. Called their Government Rep and told her, "Next Town Board meeting, I'm making a motion to pull your franchise agreement." Guess what? It was fixed for all the RR folks in Rolesville by the next day. [see the tech told me that all the RR customers had the same problem]. They did adjust our bills. Well, they told me Tuesday PM and when I came home from a B'Day party, it was back up and running. Should not have to "twist arms" to get good service. RR is great but Time Warner has a slow responce time here.

Good Morning all.

It’s a great day in NE Ohio. Steam is live on the CSX rails going thru Cleveland on its way to Chicago. So we will spend some time with friends doing some railfanning at the local crossing. We pick up a dozen of donuts to us and with luck we will get some great pics to post.

Speaking of posting, how about some help on the Sunday Photo Picks.

Mornin' All:

Hope today is a bit cooler than yesterday's 90's here in N.E. GA., we had a few good thunderstorms roll through last night. I haven't watched the morning news to see what damage occured.

Its been pretty humid the last few days, put some spar varnish on a picnic table I'm making that should dry in six hours, its been more like 24 and still slightly tacky. At least the AC and dehumidifier in the train room are doing their job. If I could only figure out how to get the table into the train room to dry I might finally fini***he project.

Have good day all.

Good morning from northeastern Illinois. I wish I was closer to some of you guys. I opened all the windows - a nice cool breeze, but humid. Clouds of mosquitos abounding outside, but the horizon looks dark to the west - probably more rain coming. Everything is so lush - including the grass - must be a foot high. Everyone's still asleep except for my youngest. I'm finding it wonderfully cool in the basement this weekend - I'm trying to figure out if I could hook up an old MRC soundmaster to our AC three-rails. My youngest turns two today. He's currently playing with his wooden Thomas trains- joins up all the track and links up all the trains...anyway, it's nice to have a few moments before everything gets started - I sure appreciate the peace.

Dr. John, your description of the wedding was pretty evocative. I'm happy for the bride and groom that you got everything in - we're starting up a regional site for our local church and there's alot of work!
Carmine - if you don't mind sharing, where are you in the Chicago metro area? I'm 41 and a newbie too - I live in Crystal Lake - about 45 miles out along the former C&NW from the city.
