Morning gang. Dang Tom, gets all the beat deals. [;)] Good find. NS Black Diamond is it. Those SD80's are big [the Lionmaster version is a little shorter]. They will pull. [:D] One pulls my long line of hopper cars full of coal [LAZ, you will enjoy this, accidently turned over three yesterday, big spill]. I run them lashed and with the heavy MTH dummy in the middle.

Will work on mounting the smoke unit in the dummy today. Got to get a bracket so it will line up witht he exhaust hole. Got heat resistant extra strong double sided tape but then it would be a mess to remove the unit for servie. Have a good one and God bless all.

Got some more work done on they layout (gotcha Cheifie).

I went to Sommerfields on Friday, and I got 6 used lionel 1122 remote switches for only $20!!! So I got them to work that night and I placed them on the layout. So now I then roughly placed some of the inside loop trackage. I did not put any gravel down on the inner loop and spurs yet, will have to get some gravel. I did wire up the milk car platform to the control table, also the barrel loader.

Had to get up early today (4:30 am) to take the wife and daughter to church so they could leave on the church choir trip. At 5 am the temperature was 81 degrees! [|(]

Came home and slept until 11 am. Son and I are bach'ng it this week. [}:)][:D]

Tom - nice find on that loco!

Chief - we'll need photos of that smoke unit in operation

Doug d'G - is that nature's vibrating alarm clock? Glad there was no apparent harm.

Jerry - go - go - go - leavin' Chief in the dust - ballast dust that is! Nice deal on those 1122's

Iron H - the layout is looking good!

Gonna be hot here all week. Weather is making sure we roast for Scout camp next week!

Have a great day all! NASCAR at Pocono [8D]

Ben,

Great train ride.

Tom,

I went back a few pages and can't seem to find the explanation to setting the shutter open for 2 seconds. I'd like to do that trick on my digital camera.

Been kinda busy last few days writing up a Gettysburg microsite for www.army.mil, bb rabbit running and my buddy and I are preparing to shoot our final scenes next weekend to a short take film (about 10-15 minutes depending on editing) that we are going to submit to PBS and/or film festivals.

Upon finishing that up in about a month, we're launching into another short take and then possibly a full-length feature. No trains in it yet, unfortunately. My screen play which does contain trains is momentarily on hold until I can add a bit more suspence to it.

Sorry to talk about myself but I did go back about 5 pages and enjoyed reading/viewing the toy train banter. Since I haven't been dabbling much w/toy trains in the last couple of days I don't have too much to add/enrich the forum.

Hi guys,
Yep, I never saw an AE3/6 from maerklin for sale, guess what, ebay in germany has 2 on the list now!! One in superb condition, one in less condition without box. probably someone thinking dollars instead of trains..
Sask, those mail prices also are a big block on my leg when ordering from US.. but also the fees being paid for import and clearance (about 33% of the total of buy&shipping price). But there are a few tricks.
I always let the trains be sent as "used toy trains, gift" and on gifts they don't ask taxes. I normally buy from one or 2 ebayshops, so the bordertax won't get suspicioun..
But it's not the best way, that's why I'm watching the german and other european boards very closely.

Instead of one kitty, we now have 3 to watch for. In the barn where we have our horsies there are 2 nests with kitty's, and as usual a few of them got ill or didn't got enough food.
One of them, a grey kitty, couldn't open his eyes anymore becuase of a sort of influenza, so we took him home to take care. the other one is a small white with all different colored stripes on her body, and was almost gone due to no food (mom was gone) and the tird one we already had one week at home, also because it didn't got enough to eat.
2 of the 3 already learned to eat food from their plate, the grey one can't smell anything because of his flu. We give him moisture every hour (also at night) and use childrens medicine in small amounts to cure his illness.
So far he's doing fine, and even started to play a little, but I'm only satisfied when he starts to eat by himself.
I don't know which one is going to stay for good, because 6 cat's is a bit too much in a town, but priority is to get them strong and healthy again.

I finished the understructure on the layout, and will be plastering this week. It will be a layout with a lot of hills and rocks, but I'm not really sure of how it's going to look like.

Stay safe!

Talked to my wife. When they landed in Los Angeles about 9 am there (11 am here, around Doug d'G's post on the earthquake), they held their plane on the runway because of the earthquake.

Chief - congrats on that smoker!

Howdy everyone,

Got back from construction trip up in New England yesterday afternoon. We made great progress on church building for Hope Chapel in Sterling, Mass. The building is walled in with felt on the roof in just 10 days! Pretty good for a 15,000 square foot building. I'm still pretty tired after working 12 hour days but enjoyed the trip. I learned a few things about New England while there:
1. There are more Dunkin' Doughnut stores than McDonalds.
2. People in New England REALLY like ice cream!
3. Yankees are a pretty friendly bunch when they're not trying to burn down Atlanta.

Seriously, we met some great folks up there and had fun touring Boston. Saw a few interesting railroad related subjects but did not get many pictures, unfortunately. More about that another time. I'll post some pics later, too. Got a lot of work (and rest!) to catch up on. Almost forgot, one lady from Birmingham had a great t-shirt she wore one day. It said "What part of Y'all don't you understand?"

Until later . . .

FrankZ, that is a good restful day. Humidity was bad here so I stayed in and worked on the train. Tomorrow will be back to triming shrubs and trees. I think a real hot humid day will be good for staying inside and painting the train room walls. Once that is done, benchwork can go on. Dr. John, made a half a gallon of sweet tea today in your honor. Glad you are back. Those Yanks have calmed some but you never know when they might come charging down. Have a good night and God bless all.

John,

It seems you brought the sunshine and warm weather with you to New England. Until you showed up, all we did was watch it rain! Now you're gone and guess what, more rain!

We do enjoy our ice cream up here. We eat more than any other area of the country - winter or summer. And yes, there seems to be a Dunkin Donuts on just about every corner. People actually like the coffee more than the doughnuts.

As for Atlanta, guess where the Braves came from - Boston!

Jerry – good work on beating Chief

Doug’G - that web site really show how you guys are on the move and changing ZIP codes. I like the snow better.

Morning gang. Yes MR. Buckeye [on the folder]. Mr. Keller thought it was a good idea and passed it on. I think the "computer types" blew a gasket but were suppose to work on it [they must work for the giverment at the speed they are "working on it"]. Some of you folks send us a rain shower or two. Wife's peach tree is loaded and my apple tree is too. Got lots of grapes coming on. Especially the Yankee [Concord] ones. [;)] All have a great day and God bless all.

Good morning all, pleasant weather here in Chicago as I come back to work with everything all ahoo. Can't wait to chase down some pinecones as trees. Put batteries in the GP9 of the K-Line Pennsy freight 'Kids' O' set last night - and tested it out now have to find some place to run it - I think I'll set up a 'high line' along the mountain ridge. These things are so big they don't fit under the normal tunnel portals or bridges. Our youngest turns 3 today - got him a Tomy Thomas set - it's like S scale - battery-powered - very inexpensive for an oval, two switches and all sorts of extra stuff.

HI GIZ,
Sorry for being tardy? My wife had planned a retirement party for Saturday night for my brothers wife or my sis in law. So since friday been doing all kinds of work for the big suprise. All had a great time and gave all the guests a train room tour and had a 12 engines going they were amazed at all the stuff. They enjoyed it and so did I. All is right with the world on that night.
BUCKEYE, I guess you got the right definition of the term breaker from KIETH. But he managed to forget one and I think CHIEF calls you a "BREAKER" at times[}:)][}:)][;)][;)][;)].
RIGHT CHIEF?
CHIEF looks like all is going well on the floor? Where is that bench work?
SASK congrats on the gift looks SWEET.
PE TIM sorry didn't get to you on the NS BLACK DIAMOND SET. The answer to your question of it running on 0-31 curves. I have ran it on 0-27 but not a full curve, a break up of the curve and a straight track and it ran well. As far as the set it comes with 5 O gauge cars, 0-48 fast track, transformer and DVD. I got mine for $400. I great deal and the SD80 has TMCC and Odyssey.
Got to go get mulch.
Going to be a hot and humid one today.
Stay cool.

Chief, Don't let them give you to much grief about still being on the floor. You can always look at it as just giving you that much more room to fill with smoke. [swg]
Doug M., I seem to remember from another forum reading that one of the battery powered sets from K-Line had an Easter Egg hidden in it's program. If the buttons are pushed in a particular sequence it played Christmas music. I'll check and see if I still have that info, I had saved it and e-mailed it to my neighbor after they bought one for their son. [8D]

Hi Y'all
It types miserable with 3 kitties on my lap.. They choose their own place to sleep and if I put them down on their pillow, they all crawl back on my lap within seconds..
But it is cute, those small hairballs. IOne grey, one peach and one black/brown one.
The grey is going to the vets for examination tomorrow. he stays a bit ill and needs a bit of help.
Our doggies find them very interesting and the other 3 cats also have interest in them in a healthy way. For all 3 of them we already found a home, which is a good thing, because we really can't have 6 cats in a townhouse.
Work was awfull today, lots of electrical problems to solve, but the beer at home tastes good.
Have a good day!
