Mornin GIZ,
Nice today to get to 67.
CHIEF you couldn't put a toll road in front of your house. Because according to BUCKEYES song you are moving kind of SLOW at the junction. You need a younger guy to collect all those dimes.
Have a good one, and be safe out there.

Today we have Suthern weather. It is beautiful. No rain. No snow. No ice. It is warm. Most likely I got the Chief all stirred up and the hot air from the Roseyville Town meeting is heading north. I might need to do that again to keep Tom and I warm. Have a good one.

Morning, folks.

Chief, hope things go well with your test. I think the "preliminaries" are worse than the actual probing.

Buckeye, glad you are getting some nice weather. If y'all could find something useful to do with all that snow you get, Ohio would have budget surpluses into the 22nd century!

Ordered a Williams FA-1 with 3 60' streamliners in GM&O colors. Route of the REBEL of course!

Have a great day!

Morning gang. No Buckeye, since we whooped you Yankees last night, I felt it would be nice for you to have some good weather as a friendship thing. [;)] Sounds like Dr. John, the Rebel Pastor, is building up an inventory of railroad rolling stock and engines. [:)] Sure is beautiful here today. Need to mow grass and disk garden and make more beds for plants [getting too big in greenhouse]. You all have a great day and God bless all.

Congratulations, Dr. John. Can't wait to hear about this new acquisition. Be sure to give us a pocket-review. Chief, I was thinking of you last eve. - lots of sad Illini fans moping around today - it was a good game. Beautiful day today - supposed to be in the high 70s - this being Chicago, it can't last. I live in a county that is growing ferociously and completely out of control - every municipality that used to be a town of 15,000 or so is trying to grab every subdivison and big box store in sight, with little infrastructure changes. We moved out here knowing it was coming but it still was fast. So we have jammed 2 lane roads, rapidly dropping water tables, rapidly rising taxes, overcrowded schools, and all sorts of growth-related misery - meanwhile the subdivisons march on past us - now nearly 60 miles from Chicago. Fortunately, I live in what amounts to an island in this sea - a fairly mature town that was already built out and continues to be the region's retail hub - have a great day!

Good Morning All,

NE Ohio has Blue Clear Skys with temp at 70.
Chief’s town meeting really worked. Great southern breeze.

We are still at home, down with sinus and swollen glands. The glands are better, but a bad cough now. My eyes even hurt.

ZWBOB – you almost went passed our house, we live off Vine Street by Rt 2. I can walk to the ball park from my house.

Pick of the day

all be safe

Not quite it. They right sized the guy responsible for maintaining the safety equipment right out of a job. Somehow, safety is always the first amenity to go. So they are not saving money on first aid kits, they are saving money on the guy that was supposed to make sure they had first aid kits.

“Track Gauge Car” seen for a week on a brickyard spur in Manassas VA (NS RR). Train going too fast too photograph better. Wonder if there's a way to control shutter speed. My daughter said there's an "action" button but haven't yet used it.

Track bar (looks adjustable). There were other bars that were not adjustable nearby. I suppose they hold the rails in gauge. Seen in Manassas, VA industrial area.

Hey, it's the Chief!

Time to break out the Canon with the fast film, David. Digitals are great, but there are some limitations. You might try "panning" the camera with the car--the buildings in the background didn't suffer too badly, leaving me to believe that the angular velocity of the near car was the culprit.

Dave - check and see if you have something like "sport setting". This increases the shutter speed and allows several shot in a row with out it displaying it on the screen.

This was taken when it was moving at about 50 mph.

thanks, Tom, believe it may be the "action" button.

I suspect you need plenty of light when using it.

Tom or anyone else,

Is there a night setting on a digital? I tried taking low-lighting pictures and the camera compensated so wasn't able to get a night scene like Walt Rapp had up on the Sunday photo fun post.

you can get an idea of the slope (2.25%) here by lookiing at the spur on the right which is level. The track looks undulating because the scenery went first, followed by the tracks, just like 1:1.

Can you simply force the fla***o be off? That's all I did for this one...but you definitely need a tripod!

Dave – as Jimbo says, one way is to just turn off the flash. But sure to use a tri-pod and also auto timer so you don’t shake the camera. Mine also has a night setting. This first two were done with just the fla***urned off and the last one was done with the night setting and also the fla***urned off. These were taken within minutes of each other.

I will have to take some tonight after sunset.

Beautijul day here today, temp. reached 80 BUT thunderstorms for tomorrow night.

Stopped at Memory Station on the way home, he received a truck load of stock from Lionel, boxes everywhere. My CB&Q 0-8-0 is among the items that came in, told Lewis I'd pick it up Fri. when I have my checkbook with me and to help him impress Todd Ebbe, product manager, from Lionel with an extra sale.

Todd'll be there for an "After Hours" Lionel Product Preview. Could it be CAB-2? I'll let you know late Fri. or Sat. afternoon after I get home from w**k. I understand that Todd'll also be at the Atlanta Greenberg show on Sat.

Dave – I took the same pic and lighten it before up loading it to shutterfly

here is another example. These were taken with just the flash off. The first is untouched and the second is lighten slightly.

This one almost look like twilight.

Gee - I must be felling better. Temp is at 78 deg and there is still about 13,000 people with out power from this weekends strom.

Good afternoon all!

I am enjoying the discussion about the use of a digital camera. Keep it up.

Busy evening. My Webelos are crossng over into Boy Scouts tonight and they receive the Arrow of Light. Got all of them through the entire program including the World Conservation badge (we did a trail rebuild at a state park). It was a lot of work to get a bunch of hperactive boys to do all the tasks.

Looks like I am pegged to accompany them on their week long Scout summercamp in June. I hate camping in the summer here. Bugs, mosquitos', and little temp drop at night. At least it is not in July or August.

Have a great afternoon all!
Roy

Congratulations, Roy. Quite an accomplishment in this day of kids have so many competing interests. I felt that same way about winter camping here. Cold, wet, tiring (and no-body forcing me to be there)...

Roy, I worked at Scout summer camp for five year and it was one of the very best jobs I ever had. I slept all summer in a tent but I did have a cot. and a wood floor. To keep those bugs away and to stay cool you need mosquito netting to sleep under. We used to hang Shell pest strips from the top of the tent but most likely those have been outlawed.

Now that you have those Cubs on the road to Boy Scouts, the fun really begins. The older boys can do so much more. I can't wait until I hear that you have been inducted into the Order of the Arrow.

Chief,

When I had my "Southern" test a few years ago I was on a liquid diet for three days. After drinking about 3/4 gallon of the "cleaning fluid" I was so sick I couldn't stand up. Test was a non event because I was given "some good drugs" according to one of the nurses. Don't wi***hat on anyone.
