Good evening all,

I know this question has come up before but I need to ask it again.

Our daughter e-mailed us some photos of our new foster grandson via the Mrs.'s yahoo address. I tried to download and save them onto my computer (Windows XL) and all I get when I try to reopen the file is the infamous boxed X. They are jpeg files. Any help would be appreciated since there is potential for future adoption and thus another future train fan.

Thanks.

HI Roger,

My Yahoo photo album won't let me share pics on the forum. If you save them to your hard drive and then upload them to shutterfly or equal, then you can post them

For instructions on posting pics,

Roger - do you want to post them here or just look at them on your computer? Can you see them in your wife's Yahoo e-mail? Try right clicking on the pic, then "Save Picture As" (name it) and direct it to the appropriate place on your hard drive. Sorry if I misunderstood your question...

Thanks for the response guys.
Jim, I can view them in the yahoo e-mail but I'm trying to save them to my hard drive into a folder under "My Documents" so that I can either burn a disc, print or e-mail them. I've followed the yahoo procedure for downloading and they do show as as file/icon/symbol when I open the "my Documents" folder but when I try to view the individual photo file I get the X box.

Tom, I've saved the uploading via shutterfly info you gave me some time ago I just haven't had time to learn the details on the digital camera my wife got for Christmas so that I can take some layout photos.

I'm signing off for the night so if you post any info. it'll be tomorrow afternoon/evening before I can let you know how I made out.

Thanks.

Evenig All,
Went the the "World's Greatest Hobby Show" today. IMHO it was no different than the GATS events. Although there were a couple of Factory reps in attendance the "O" gauge fans were EXTREMELY under-represented. If you were an N, HO or G fan it was a good show. What little bit of O that was there seemed to be a little pricey, regardless of whether it was new, new old stock or used. I guess you could say that the few catalogs I picked up, although free, were pretty expensive. Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained. I just won't go again.[|(]

Good Morning all,

NE Ohio has temp at 36 deg, with the rain overnight, it melted all the snow from yesterday.

Roger – You should have been able to view your daughters picture if she set up her yahoo album to be shared with you. BTW – Shutterfly also has a shared album feature, it’s better than e-mailing pics.

Two train shows in NE Ohio this weekend, 1st in Medina and the 2nd at Eastlake North HS. It’s a shame, as large as these shows are, none of the Manufactures ever have reps there.

Laz,

That is strange behavior but normal. I'm guessing that the dogs that do it are keen hunting dogs with the savvy to put on a camouflaging odor so they can track other game w/out being detected.

I'm esp glad to see that you let your dog go hunting. SOme dogs (like mine) are bred to hunt and keeping them cooped up all the time doesn't make for a happy dog. When BB is out hunting, her tail is up and rotating as fast as a helicopter. She lives, eats, sleeps for the hunt. She hasn't yet caught a rabbit (but has gotten close), but it's the chase that she likes.

I just sent a .jpg image to my yahoo e-mail so I know this works...
1. Place cursor in it and RIGHT CLICK the image as you're viewing it in her Yahoo e-mail
2. Click "Save Image As..." and choose the location (C: My Documents), and name the photo.
3. Are you putting the file extension ".jpg" (without the quotes!) after the name of the file?

Hi everyone, What a weekend! What a morning! It's gotta get better - one of the dogs got sick last eve - why does this stuff always happen late at night or early in the morning - and 4 am found me trying to clean a sick dog and the room he inadvertently soiled without waking anyone up - and then I got to go to work ;) No 'training' for the forseeable future - my wife is on the warpath: wanting help with the 2 year old, surly older kids, uncontrollable pets - the usual.

Happy Belated Birthday, Buckeye!!! [:D]

Morning gang. Rainy and real warm. Just got on this site to post. About once a week, I get an intrusion attempt through this site and this site only. Norton shuts this site down for 30 minutes. Went to post reply and the warning flashed up. Went to OGR and other sites and posted but this one was blocked. Ate my sausage biscuit [fresh stuffed sauage] and drank coffee. Now back. Sure nice to have all this stuff blocking everything on my computer. Sure is bad that we have to do this. Think George W. needs to work on that type of stuff. Guess he is going to get Iran and Syria next. [;)] Guess I'll iron my shirts and pants for the Thursday trip to Memphis BPS. Never been to that store. Might sneak in some train running in this AM too. [:D] God bless all.

I'm strolling through Target this weekend and I always walk past the kid's die-cast aisle to see what's new. Talk about a blast from the past! There is a "collectable" (e.g. cheap) set of Tommy Ivo dragsters. Too bad they are smaller than HO scale. But who the heck at Target thinks kids and most adults would even know who "TV Tommy" is. The only place you saw this guy was at the dragstrip or in Hot Rod magazine back in the 60's or early 70's

Remember his 4 engine (Buick V-8s) 4 wheel drive machine. So I found this link if you want to reminisce. http://www.tommyivo.com/

Had a beautiful day here yesterday and another in store for today; high 70's and sunny.

Have a great day all!

Tommy Ivo developed his multi engine when NHRA wouldn’t a low Nitro for fuel. Every time I watch the super tracker pulls, with multi engines, I think of him. [8D]

great web site on him.

Hi GUYS,
We got about 2 inches of snow here last night. Another mistake by the weather nerds. First they called for 5-8 inches then it was3-5 inches and finally when the storm developed 1-3 inches they really have to cover their a__es I guess.
Anyway have parent teacher conferences today. I have only one parent, who wants to talk to their kids shop teacher, anyway?
Have to be here till 630 what a way to spend time.
FJand G yea my dog loves going to the woods and we jog an old ripped up railroad bed, and she loves that also especially after deer season she will find a heap o guts and roll in that stuff also. That really stinks up the back of the truck.
Have agood one and lets be careful out there.

Thanks for the information Tom and Jim. I stumbled on a solution to my problem last night using the old rule "Don't do the obvious!" I was clicking on the yahoo "Scan and Download" and getting nowhere, I left clicked on the photo itself bringing up a menu, tried "Save As", no luck , tried "Save Target As...." It worked!

Some heavy thunderstorms rolled through here this afternoon heading east, thier still giving warnings for up till 7:45p.m.. I don't know if they're heading your way Chief but into SC for sure.

Hello All: What to do with Old MR. or train Magazines? Donate them to a local train club to be used or sold at their show's or open houses. I seen that done up her in the great white north many of times. Sometimes they donate the 1.00 a peice to a local charity, or use the funds to help with the operating cost of the club. All &all it is good to see them being put to good use. Steve

Steve, I've given my old "Trains" mags. to any youngster that shows an interest in trains. The CTT and OGR I keep, I've found myself looking at the back issues to find info. for a current project, or problem, I might have and remember reading an article about it. One of these days I might even put the annual indexes someplace I can find them.

Good advice, Keith.

Boy I feel stupid, I've been cutting copper wire all day and there are little snippets everywhere. I pulled out my heavy duty magnet rake expecting to pull up all the little piece.

Wrong! The copper doesn't like the magnet.

Happy birthday buckeye! And chief, I rejected norton from my computer and work with panda antivirus and a separate firewall (zonealarm). I do get some popups now and then, but everything else keeps fine. Norton slowed down my computer a fair bit, and also blocked sites I wanted to visit. I don't want my computer to block sites, I want it to detect virusses.
I'm working this way now over 2 years with windows XP and it works great.

We finally have snow now, it's a bit late, but allas. Gives me time to reorganize a few things, made a new cupboard in the hallway and when drilling the holes in the wall it blew out the electrics.. I was quite a bit affraid that I had drilled through some inbedded wiring. Luckily, when I put the power back on it worked fine until I put the microwave back on. It made a flame and the power was off again.
Normally I'm quite pissed when something expensive brakes down, but this time I was happy that I didn't have to tear the wall open to search for hidden shortages..

@FJ&G what happened to your vacuumcleaner??

Daan,

Is the ice thick enough to skate on the canals? I spent about $100 for Norton AntiVirus about 10 years ago and now it doesn't work on my new computer. SOmething about needing upgrades. Boy, these companies sure know how to make a buck!

Evening All,
Lovely day here if you have webbed feet and feathers. I don't believe they know when this stuff is going to stop, initially they were saying wednesday it was going to start drying out. Now they are saying that there may be another storm coming in after this one. [:(][|(]
If I can't get to the weeds pretty soon I'll have to get a logging permit to start pullin weeds.

Back home from a heart meeting a guy up the street wanted me to attend. Listened to some Dr. with all his long terms that resulted in a new test that proves nothing. Yes, new test that might be an indicator but not true. Now for some popcorn and Diet Pepsi. Norton runs me $39 a year. Worth it to me. Works great and blocks stuff and use Ad-aware too. Ad-aware blocks unwanted cookie and then you run a scan about once a week and it cleans up anything [notifiers when you sign on and etc.] that accidently got by and is hiding in your computer. Watching "Gone With The Wind". Makes me want to go out and get some YANKEES. [;)] All have a good night and God bless all.

I have to admit that I'm watching Gone With the Wind as well. I do have alterior motives, though. I'm hoping for a glance at Str. GORDON C. GREENE, which makes an appearence in a few scenes of the movie. Besides trains, I also have a weekness for paddlewheeled steamboats, especially when it begins to get close to Derby(and Great Steamboat Race) time. Gone With the Wind probably offers the only full color videos, as brief as they may be, of the GORDON C. GREENE in action. It ceased operation in 1952, having been replaced by Str. DELTA QUEEN, and sank in 1967.

Good Morning all,

NE Ohio is cool and quite, temp at 36 with light snow in the forecast. And so winter goes.

Buckeye, good to see your are back and safe, hope you had a good birthday. Did you get any trains [?]

Daan – good to see you drop by. Snow means time for trains, can’t ride the bikes in the wet stuff.

Chief – note on the NE Ohio Summit, another Buckeye joined the forum.
