Mornin' Fellas.Well I got the call yesterday that the paints are in at the LTS. I can now start work on the station! Also stopped at Lowes to pick up the last section of skirtting for the the one end of the layout. Should have that installed tonight. Been thinking about the curved wooden trestle bridge a lot lately and I need to get back into the train room and do some measuring. I'm very concerned that it won't work now due to the swingout of the AC6000 (@ 1" leading and trailing on the O45 curves)... so we'll see. Also, if I do ever get my KLine Allegheny running again the swingout on that is a bit more so the bridge would have to be about 1.25" wider on the outer edge and 3/4" on the inside edge than I originally calculated, then with the trestle taper I'm looking at a bottom width approx 7.5 inches which is much more than I wanted to go... Also concerned that a modern deisel (AC6000) may not look appropriate on a 19th century trestle bridge... thoughts?Looks like Kurt has caught the hickups again.Roy - Need to discuss the power conversion we discussed at October York. morning all well got my new putor in last night and have to return it today as the DVD/CD door will not open actually it is jammed in there where its smooth fit at top its in about 1/8" on bottom and stuck behind the outer shell.
Now have to take to ups to get it sent back for exchange. (yesterday wasn't a good day )
Did get my other 3 Kasey Kahne expansion packs in that I wanted for the 4 car Auto carriers
that will give me total of 4 think thats enough. any body need a truck trailer or 2 for there layout that happens to say dodge and picture of Kasey and his car and has a big 9 on it. how about a 1:64 #9 dodge Nascar think its closer to s gauge thou.

Morning all. Been so busy, have not sent my expense account in. Have to scan everything and then fill out EXL sheet. Email all in. Scanning takes time with all my meal receipts. Real warm this AM???? and sunny. Was suppose to turn cold????? Maybe later today. Greenhouse to water. Got tomato and squash plants up. Need to finish leaves in back and disk garden down. Bet we had an inch of rain. Got to get moving. Wes, nice basement for a layout. Prayers for the whole group that everything will be "rosey" for the rest of the week and weekend. Prayers for those with job concerns. Later.

IIABSDISEI now but at 6:30 AM it wasn't. A thin layer of snohio froze on the roads, turning I-74 into a skating rink. Stopping at an exit and then creeping along at 30 to 40 MPH the rest of the way got me to work safely. Tired already. Did the YMCA routine and watched Lost last night. That was it. I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast this morning. Beacon is lit. I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all.Freezing here again, a little snow/ice - just enough to make things miserable. Bride woke up with the flu / some bug so I am running things since I am 'working at home today. Teens off successfully. Next, the youngest, then I'll check in with her. Wes, congrats on the home - basement looks wonderful. Maybe the stove would come apart in pieces (unbolt or cut apart). Brutus, I think the issue with this particular bathroom is the builder lazily put in a Y pipe in the wrong place down below...may eventually need a more... powerful toilet but that has its own probs. Jack, good memories of your Finger Lakes reference. I canoed them with my dad and brothers when I was a teen - my dad was nuts, we were pretty young - canoed and portaged seven of them in a week. Ole Timer, good story about the sawdust. Patrick, that was a good joke. I like good country jokes. Jack, by the way, part of McHenry County has been pretty suburbanized, but the rest is still open. Our park district gives lessons in sailing on the actual Crystal Lake. I would be so cool to really learn. Nice chat with the Chief yesterday. Ooops, gotta run the youngest to school.

In my area of central PA. that wood burner is worth several hundred dollars.
Put it on Ebay as pick up only. Two or three people and a refridgerator dolly will get it out without much difficulty. The stairs will be fine.

Coaling area is coming slow but ok. I changed all the 0-42 Lionel switches with K-line 0-42 switches. Reason was because the CNW S2 Switcher kept on shorting out or just plane stopping at the Lionel switches. Very frustrating. A guy down the road from me that has a small train shop that he runs out of his house had the KL switches so went there at got em for 32 bucks each. Also I built a coal mover. When the rotary tipple dumps the coal, I have it deposited in a bucket. I didn't like that. So what I did was take an old paper shredder, took out the old motor. Those shedders have forward and reverse, so it will work for me. I rigged it up so I have a inch wood auger bit on it. I had a 1 inch inside diameter stainless steel pipe that I put the bit in. Cut out an oblong slot for coal to go in. Turn on motor switch it to reverse, sends coal up auger into tube then up to top of layout. I have to make the housing for motor and auger bit, but it does work fine. Now I just gotta figure out where to put it. So maybe over weekend I'll do some work on it and post some pics. I need to do lots of scenery though too. All in time?

39 and sunny ..... waiting for a couple of big steam engines to go off on ebay ... Doug ... got started on luan buildings by accident ... wife bought me a Greenleaf building set a long time ago and found out how easy and detailed one could get with it . I then broke out the ole crafstman bandsaw and equipt. and started making shells for some of the guys here . I have a few tricks to groove and change it's finish to look like about anything wanted . You'd also be surprised how much O guage lumber/shingles ... and stone comes out of 1 pine board . If I ever learn how to operate this new advanced camera ... I'll post some pics later ... wife gave away my old one ... I keep screwing up with this one ... LOL . It has about 100 settings and menus ... . Laz ... really sounds like you're becoming a fairly expert bash builder ! Congradulations !!! Awww to be young again ............
Thanks Banks! I'll clean it up and see what happens. There is another fireplace upstairs, so we can huddle around that for emergency heat. It if wasn't so big, I'd put it in the workshop...I mean third bay of the garage...:)

After reading the posts from the CA boys, Taxachusetts' pols taking seriously this threat to our "tax anything live or inert" reputation and may be getting some creative CA ideas to close our gargantuan state budget defecit. Lottery sales down, unlike what happened in previous economic downturns. Boston school system is still considering cutting 400 teacher positions.
Watched a Fox offshoot channel last night, "Train Wrecks." Lots of live footage, especially of drivers rolling the dice, ignoring signals and gates, and losing. One observer discussed the weight and mass of a train and compared the impact to a car driving over a beer can. Remind me to never live at the foot of the California/LA basin where the 70 car loaded freights come down from the hills, experience brake failure, derail at 105mph, and wipe out entire communities. Too common of an occurence there too. Death and destruction, bad. DougM....they showed a clip of the Downers Grove commuter rail fatality where commuters ignored the signals, sightline was screened of the second track by a passenger train stopped for pickup, and one commuter got splattered. Gruesome.
JimSP....prayers continue for your daughters. I read Buckeye's story and it brought back a bad memory for me. A guy took a 45 degree right traverse over 3 highway lanes to make an exit at about 80mph, clipped my left front end, and left me for dead impaled on a guard rail. Driver skipped. Car totalled, but I walked away from that one. Knee surgery followed. The seat belt harness saved my life, as pointed out by the state trooper who called in for an ambulance.
DougDG......ROAD TRIP to help Wes move must be cancelled. Spies report that there are two lists going. Mrs. Wes' "honey do" list for him AND her growing "knucklehead list" for us. Suspect Wes is moving items he doesn't like to do to our list. Devious Ohio trickery.
Buckeye.....I don't need Wes to build a a 5,000 linear foot layout. 4,920 will do, just as long as Don (or was it Doug) doesn't suggest an 80' tunnel as was proposed by others for his/their club layout. Must be a lot of drinking going on at those club get togethers. I prefer watching trains, not listening to the noise coming from the tunnel portal, wondering what running trains look like and staring at scenicing. BTW.....how do you rerail the train wrecks in a tunnel that long?
BTW....Brent, speaking of layouts, your initial master layout plan had you functionally complete by Christmas with scenicing as the final frontier. Christmas 2008. If you were Leonardo daVinci painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, the Pope would have fired you by now. Seriously, your labor of love continues to impress. Just don't pull an Ole Timer and leave the shop vac switched to 'blow." I cringed reading his post, picturing a similar domestic faux pas or two in my household. I accidentally forgot to turn off the the water to a kitchen faucet I was swapping out while wife was chatting with a neighbor on the front porch. Water spraying everywhere. With me screaming at the top of my lungs for help, wife strolled in with neighbor, laughing her brains out. "My husband.....not much grey matter upstairs."
Wes......Chief could use that cast iron stove in your basement during his visits for his midnight popcorn/reclinerizing routine, unless you provide a microwave to go with the full fridge. Thanks for the pics...full fridge means more storage for goodies to supplement our beer supplies when we all (have to) move in visit.
Brutus.... cough syrup with a beer chaser. Works for me. Now hoping you, the wife, and the little one kick this crud. Prayers. Chief's suggestion that you take small nips of the cough syrup as required rather than a full dose.....works better that way for me and keeps the cough in check, though you may want to reverse the above process and do the beer first.

Kurt.....if the 4 year old daughter's knowlege of Natural History things has caught up to you, what are you going to do by the time she turns 5? Those are the types of moments we all wish we could have caught on videotape. My cameras always stay fully charged and at the ready to catch those granddaughter and dog moments.

CA mountain snow vistas and the beautiful views made our local news during the past two weeks on the right coast.

Chief - Thanks for the heads up on the NASCAR items on choochooauctions.com. Will have to bid on some of them after I finish this post. And you are right about having cattle and not going hungry. We feed out 2 steers each year for freezer meat for us and our three kids that live here in Culpeper. Feeding out means lots of corn (no molassas though).
RT - Thank you for "the rest of the story". By the way, I to was wandering about fife.
Jack - One shot of my special lightening and the cows immediately stop coughing. One side effect - they can't MOO for about a week, and they run off about 50 pounds. My special lightening IS good. How good is it? It is so good that the infernal revenewers would rather get a Gal. jug a month as a bribe than close me down.
Wes - Great looking house! Open, lots of windows. My kind of house. It is nice to see someone is benefiting from this messed up economy.

88 - As to your wooden trestle, go for it. Look at some of the old WESTERN MARYLAND bridges, especially in NW Baltimore County. Even though my layout is set in the 70's, I settled on some steam era structures simply based upon astetics.

Wes, Sweet Digs Dude ! I would never make it as a decorater, I LIKE all the wood on those interior walls. I even like that old "wood burner" in the basement. Fire that puppy up, turn on the trains some good bluegrass music and a good rocking chair, what more could one want or need. *
Well, the "intelegencia" in Sacramento have agreed on a budget. Gas taxes aren't going up but that's about the only one that isn't. But of course the "Sacred Cow" of no off-shore gas/oil drilling can't even be talked about, billions of $ just sitting.
Buckeye, You do realize that the governor of Illinois lives in a really big house.

You guys are so right!! I would go in a minute, but don't think that's going to happen anytime soon. Wife's parents here with a very close bond. Maybe when son graduates and IF he moves she would be willing to follow. My mission - find him a job elsewhere.
Other issues:
- 3 year waiting list on On-Way Uhaul rentals.
- Noone willing to buy house, (waiting for another amnesty package)
- Can't take any money out of state, pending new Exit-Excise tax bill.
- Demographic exit criteria being exceeded, new lottery system being developed for future egress attempts.
- Where to go issue? Wifes criteria: No Snow, No Hurricanes, No Tornadoes, No Humidity, No Bugs, No Snakes

Man it was snowing like crazy on the way home, so stopped at the store and got some Sam A, then the ACE hardware for some repair parts then to bed. A few hour nap and coffee, lots of it. Bride has a painting project for me. Like 100 little crosses to paint white.
Well it is official. I may of just worked my last nightshift. I will shadow the new supervisor next week on dayshift and if he does not go crazy, he will take over my shift and I will transitation to straight dayshift. I have mixed feelings about the move. I have a real good crew, but straight days will work better with my deacon ministry.
Wes- Try an add in the paper saying FREE you remove. Many years I would have bit at something like that, or a Kurt says, a sledge, and a loud BOOOONG! And it is in pieces. Nice place!

I held off posting anything regarding the job interview I had on Tuesday morning (8:00 - 10:45 / five different people) until I heard from the company. I don't need to wait any longer. I received an email message and part of it quoted below.
"While your credentials were impressive, we have decided to pursue other candidates, which possess skills and experience that are more suitable for this position."
Oh well, nothing else much to report.

After Noon All:
Just received a box with 5 Lionel NASCAR items won on ebay. Well packed and in excellent condition. All from one seller, My Favorite Spot in Denton TX. Five separate auctions, but they volunteered to ship in on box to save on shipping.
I did notice the box was shipped from Bockmann Industries with My Favorite Spot's name and address on it. Do you suppose it was a Drop Ship deal? Items look new.
I love Toy Trains show on RFD-TV today at 4:00 EST if they don't preempt it with a cattle auction.
I need to cut back on my visits to the Coffee Pot. Falling behind in train layout work. Hard to do though, I think it is addictive. Is there a train runners anonymous?
Just in from watering the greenhouse. Wet as it was 88 in there. 90 and fan comes on. Not good for health when you are getting over the "pewmonia". Need to order one for the boat house at the lake. Will see what the price is. May just use a good attic exhaust fan and fix and air intake closable in winter. Now to go out and get up leaves. Lucy and Burg were out for the whole time. That means I can go in and out of gate without closing it. OOps, PD car just turned around and floored it with siren. Later

Too much to read it all, but I did catch that Wes has bought a new house trainroom and that Don is thinking of leaving the land of pleasant living for more reasonable taxes. Don, we have some very reasonable priced houses in this area, close to York, and with high speed internet to run your business. Did I mention that it is close to York? Congratulations to Wes and family.
