Good Morning all

Still have the grandkids and school is on a one hour delay.

While here I have been working with the boy and the seat issue.  If he pees with the seat down, he washes the seat.  Great motivation to do the right thing.

Greg & Jack - I often buy with an eye tward restoring.  Since I run & play with mine pristine is not in my budget or mode of operation.  I have as much fun restoring as playing!  I got a 592A Crossing gate to refinish last night.  Ahhh more projects.

Time to get the kids up.  See you later

May God bless

Jim

Buckeye, Double bad news, if you haven't heard already. Maerklin, who bought out the bankrupt LGB, appears to be going down the same tube.

I am becoming more and more a fan of Heartland Locomotives.

Mrs. Buckeye is hugging the porcelain this morning.

It is a little chilly here today, but I wish it were colder so that more rift-raft would move to say, Roseyville.   Northern Michiganders used to tell me that the cold and snow kept only the tough and hard working to stay year around.  It was natures way of limiting the population.

Breakfast meeting this am across town.  So I better be on my way.

Wes....It will work out for the best.

Evening All, (morning by now).

Been busy the last few days, but always time to read the pot, just not enough time to respond a lot.  But some scattered thoughts.....

Yep, we gots us some bad weather headed this direction.  The forecast is now for Drizzle on Thursday & Friday, and most likely Sprinkles on Sunday!!

Regarding the seat issue, this could evolve into a major topic, possibly even require Federal funding for research.  For example, Does the normal seat position relate to the dominate person  that lives in the household?  Male or Female.     Is there a correlation to the frequency of use and the "normal" position.    And then there is the unthinkable question as to the cleanliness of the area when the seat is always left in the lowered position.    Now for the really impossible situation is those dam--d lid covers!  Those are impossible.  My inlaws have those, and I've always wondered whether or not he was a pointer or sitter.  I've been able to learn the old side shot while holding the lid with the knee trick.   Yepp, this sure could become a totally engrossing topic.

On a light side, went down to the train club today, wanted to run some conventional stuff that's been sitting for a long time.  Lubed and greased them, and they really ran great.  I was impressed!  Then we had the meeting, things don't change!  The "artist" has a plan going that will end up with 60' (yes foot) siding elevated 16" running the distance of the layout, and ultimately turning back on itself.  Will then put the train at the main line going in the opposite direction.  Needless to say I expressed some concern but it wasn't well received.  When I had previously "left", a couple of guys said and pleaded not to, someone needs to stand up to "them".  And that is why they stayed, so I'm going to do a layout plan with the new track changes and distribute it to all the members.  That way everyone can see and understand the changes BEFORE the point of no return is met.

Getting late, so hope everyone has a great day, and doesn't get buried in all the snow.

LAST CALL,

Prayers for Roy, Don, Ray, and Doug as they struggle mightily to get through their nasty TX and CA weather.  OMG, rain?!?!?!   I have to wipe the tears of sadness off my keyboard now or the keys will turn to ice.

Fife.....liked the pics of the station.  Liked the station even more.  Thanks for your thoughtful offer to help me dispose of the extra beer inventory.  A true man for others, as Bishop John Carroll would say.  Maybe we can load some up in the Tardis and let Brutus be the designated driver, but I'm not sure what the load capacity is in that thing.  Laz will have to grit his teeth, though.  No Ole Mils.

Charlie and Dennis, Chief too.  So we don't wake one another, wife and I usually don't turn on any lights if we have to tap a kidney in the middle of the night, just slowly find our way in the dark.  Early in our marraige we had the toilet seat controversey.  One night she deliberately left the seat up.  Much later, I, expecting the seat to be down, plopped right down into the bowl.  That was most unpleasant.  Swear I could hear snickering coming from the bed.

Dennis (GA), Chief (NC), and RT(SC).......17, 18, and 14 degrees tonight, respectively.  Thats mighty frigid for your neck of the woods.  Will be in single digits here.  The real men live in Wisconsin where it will be -14 tonight, right Northwoods?

SJ......no news lately on your headaches. Thumbs Up  My wife's went away when the kids moved out.  Then one moved back in, and.....yup.  My father would have moved to the South Pole before he let me move back home.

Speaking of moving.....Wes, I feel your relief that the prospect of moving has passed.  If you need the space, would building up and out work?  I don't recall if you said there were lot line restictions on your existing place.  If you like where you are, the neighbors are decent, the commute is tolerable, and the interest rates cooperate, maybe this is the place to be.  No home is perfect, there is always a wish list.

Roy.....please don't take this the wrong way.  GregM and I only have your best interests at heart when we console you with "The worst is yet to come." Whistling

Believe me Chief that is easier said than done.

It is supposed to drop to about -12 tonight.  But this should be the end of the deep freeze.  It will be in the upper 30's during the day for the next week.

Wow a heat wave!

Good night.  Reclinerized since 8:30. Shock  Seat better be down.  My Mom taught me that years ago.  I am amazed at the male persons who are not respectful enough to do that.  Very simple.  Those who don't, must NOT wash your hand either. Disapprove  I was also taught that the male walks next to the street/curb side.  Cold tonight but warming and around 70 Sunday.  I hve train meet but if it is 70, might stay at lake house and fish.  If I do come back Sat. night, will do train meet Sunday AM and fish pond that afternoon.  Suppose to be in the 60's all next week and into the weekend.   Bet that old troll in Ioway tries to send us some of his cold mess. Thumbs Down Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.

Ran some trains earlier today (no pileups despite a cranky coupler) and began my annual angst over whether I should touch up or repaint some pieces or leave them as they are.  Some like Northwoods would observe there is an interesting story behind every nick or scrape, especially with trains that have survived childhood and have been running for over 5 decades.  My engines get wiped down and wrapped in old white t-shirts when pulled off and replaced on the track with another.  Guess I'll procrastinate until my obsession with perfection passes.

Jack,

I like keeping my trains in original condition.  But I target my purchases so that I mainly buy items that don't need to be refinished.  The exception is those pieces that are very difficult to find or rarely come on the market.  Then I might consider having a piece in rough condition and upgrade if the funds and a better example become available at the same time.  If I could afford it I would have items in pristine condition.  You remind me of my fantasy of having pieces in original condition but then also taking old beat up pieces and restoring them to like new or in colors that Flyer never produced. I see the latter as being an activity when I am done paying for college and in retirement. I really do have Train Pox.  I like the statement that someone on here uses.  "Too many trains feels just right."

There are so many approaches to what to do with restoration or touch up that I think you need to find the one that works for you,  The pieces that I have that are family pieces I will never restore purely out of nostagia.  But if I can find another example of those pieces new and in the box I would consider owning it too.

The only thing to remember about painting or touching up is that you can never put it back to its "as is" condition.

Charlie, want to have fun?  Start making a fuss anytime folks leave the seat down.  tell them that if  they don't lift it, you'll start peeing on the seat!  After the swelling goes down, you can then say "yes dear, I'll remember to put the seat down".

I guess I'm fortunate that my wife puts up with me at all.... :)

Well, just like that, we aren't moving anymore.  Our babysitter told us that they would rent our house, and now they are not.  I'm really actually relieved.  Looking at houses, putting in offers, counter offers, etc sure is stressful.  I don't feel like putting the house up just to sell it for less than I owe, and I don't want to rent it to just anybody.  I'll just work the next few years paying down this mortgage, and try again in 2012 when Jack is old enough to start kindergarden.

Sir James, what we need is a Door into Summer Wink  Tardis is ready, sorry it was running late last night and forgot to post.  Mike, you are on man!  SJ - sounds good!

Watching Fringe online - good show but I can't watch it in real time as it scares my wife and I never get to watch my shows on the dvr anymore, guess I'm low man on the totem pole.

Got my prewar tank car I won on ebay for $3.  Trucks, frame, latches are good.  The tank was roughed up pretty badly on top, but not rusty, more like it was stored in a box full of nails or something?  I think I can just sand it smooth and then repaint it. One end is popped out a little, but I can fix that easily.  Now, should I restore it or do a custom job on it?

Where's RT - working OT I hope?

No O.T. for me just laying back tonight. did get tax thing straightened out Jim had to resend it electronically. Fed excepted so all should be good now.

Think we are going to get some windows for the house here as these we have are not the greatest lol. might try to keep the old ones if I can for when I build a shed . Be nice to have them .

spent 1/2 my work day in urgent care ( E.R.) Just can't get a doctors appointment unless its your time to be seen you have to goto urgent careConfused Anyway been feeling light headed for a couple of weeks and it kinda got bad at one point today. Called appointment desk to make appointment to See my doctor but was told I'm not due to see him till April 20 something she said so she said you need to got ER or call the TAP nurse who all she can do is tell you to go to ER or you can leave a message for your doctor but he can take up to 24 hours to respond. I said I give up. I always thought that ER was more expensive but the way they use it here is like a walk in clinic as you can't see your doctor except the 2 times a year your suppose to be there for your semi annual appointment.

Oh well not much else happening. Doc did say something about my equal Librium or something like that lol.

Well I now have the last of the Nascar series on there way ( Dale jr train set and dale senior expansion pack ( 2nd one if I didn't tell don't asked not a good subject)

Anyway supose to get down to agout 14 tonight might light a fire come morning lol.

About it off tomorrow because of doctor visit today has meds wants me to take a day or two befor returning to work and I'm normally off friday.

Life's hard, even harder if your stupid  John Wayne

Fife - that station looks mighty nice. Since the 'rock' in this area is a deep maroonish color, and the water tower is orange I really think the buff and brown B&O paint scheme will look better than the grey and maroon WM scheme. I did give a lot of thought to the tower option, but then a water tower wouldn't have made much sense, and since I have the water tower and really wanted it on the layout I decided the station and water tower would work fine. I have been thinking of getting a switch tower to put where the void is where the switch used to be that I removed this past weekend.

We need to arrange a 'session' soon. My layout is out of commission due to a gaping void where the curved trestle is going to be, and I have to figure out if I am building this or having someone build it for me. I found someone who builds VERY nice trestles complete with lookouts and railings, and I don't think I have the patience to build it myself... depends on cost I guess.

I have learned to sneak up on the stars from the right side, if you just move your cursor over them, they react.  Very sensitive on my computer.

We had a crazy weather pattern in the county last night. At my home we did not get a bit, some parts of the county got 12" .

Need to run some trains. Maybe get something out of storage that I haven't run for a while.

I guess I don't see the value in the rating system, am I missing something?  It's way to subjective to rate most topics.  I also see no need to see how many posts we all have made except who has the most hot air, Chief Laugh

Snow will all be gone by Friday AM, heat waves forecast 50's +.  Sadly, it appears that winter is taking a break Ashamed

Jack, I am certainly glad that you do your running log of responses to posts here...makes me remember from 4 pages ago, who said what (except a little slip with Jon, but I digress).  In answer to your question:

"What are the single snowfall and seasonal snowfall records for yuz guyz? "

That'd be a big goose egg.....O.O inches!  I really have never heard of any snow down this end.  When I was in Columbus, we once had 1/2" of snow that lasted a few hours.  All told, I have lived here for 15 years and that was the grand total of snow for me in Georgia.....1/2".

Good afternoon Y'all!  Well, it was real cold out this morning when I came in.  I think it was in the 20s and supposed to head down to 18 tonight.  During the day it warms up to the 50-60s.  Can't tell as I have been inside the whole day.  I am tired as have had plenty to do.  A few emergencies and a couple of scheduled cases.  Hopefully it will be clear soon that I may go home and visit family.  Have a dinner at a Japanese place tonight.  One of our reps is taking a couple of us out.  No wives, no kids, so I won't stay long.  Need to go over some details and eat, then home.  Have a few cases tomorrow, so sleep will be needed.

Charlie, want to have fun?  Start making a fuss anytime folks leave the seat down.  tell them that if  they don't lift it, you'll start peeing on the seat!  After the swelling goes down, you can then say "yes dear, I'll remember to put the seat down".

Chief, say it ain't so.  No SnOhio in NC!  It may have gotten a littl cold down these parts, but the chance of snow is rather limited.

Spoke with wife, one of the secretaries on the floor where she sometimes works died.  She was 70 and really looking forward to retirement.  More evidence that I want to retire early and enjoy life with loved ones while I can.  Wife is going to attempt to attend funeral tomorrow.

God Bless,
Dennis

Good Day, Gentlemen Whistling,

Sunny and 20 now.  Got another 6" of the white stuff yesterday and last night, powder, accompanied by 14 degree temperatures and a hefty blow off the ocean.    We're pushing about 55 inches so far this Winter with (feasibly) snow into late March.  More than the seasonal average of 44" but won't approach the 140+" we got back in the Winter of 1996-1997, I think.

What are the single snowfall and seasonal snowfall records for yuz guyz?

After 6 years the wife finally took her rear wheel drive car out in the snow after I made the investment in some all season radials.  Bridgestone RE 960 Potenzas.  She had a problem on just one incline getting out of her parking lot at work, so I'm going to add 80 pounds in the trunk and go from there.  Folks ahead of her were struggling too, and I bet they were front wheel drive.  At the risk of being repetitive, snowblowers rock.

Garage fridge is stuffed with beer, leftover from the SB.  None of it got consumed because my daughter and son-in-law decided to hosted the party and told me not to bother dragging it over to their place.  What do you guys think I should do with it all?  I'm worried it will go stale, and I have read somewhere that it is a sin to waste.  Smile,Wink, & Grin  I'll probably call Laz for advice.  He seems to be the brewskie expert around these parts.

Later Gents,

Jack
